Jab 9 done Sunday went up to 5mg and had to do it a day early in the end as I was really struggling with food noise and lack of suppression for the second week in a row so far;
3x2.5mg
5x3.75mg
1x5mg.

I decided to go up to 5mg as my suppression hasn't been great and my food noise has been dreadful this week. I've really struggled with wanting to eat junk food and struggling to stop once I start and wanting to eat all the kids leftovers. I injected a day early on Sunday but keeping my weigh day as today as I work nights all weekend and hold onto water massively. It's also been tough as I slipped a disc two weeks ago and the GP refused to prescribe naproxen as MJ affects absorption of medication.

In the end I've lost 2lb this week which has all been since the jab on Sunday as I was still maintaining then!

Weigh in number 8
SW 21st 9lb
CW 20st 1lb
GW 12st 6lb
lbs off this week
losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2
So a total of 22lbs

I'm really hoping to be 2st down by Christmas - 6lb in 3 weeks. I'm also tantalisingly close to having a weight that doesn't start with a 2 for the first time since Sept 2019!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 03/12/2024 08:56

I am definitely in a plateau at the moment - but I know I'm eating within a deficit so the numbers have to balance out at some point in the near future! Wary of going up to 5mg this week since I had a crap week with side effects this week but I think getting the dose increased is pretty much needed now.

NewbieMJ · 03/12/2024 10:54

@Arglefraster I wanted to reply to you to say hang on in there! I am going to post a pic of my Carb Manager progress - 13 weeks in total. Weigh in day was yesterday, but I am down another 2 pounds this morning (not on chart).

I was going great on 2.5mg, not so much on 5mg, so went up to 7.5mg. I was supposed to take the 5th/bonus dose yesterday of 7.5 mg before going onto my second 7.5mg pen next week. I FORGOT to jag myself!! So, will do it today.

Anyway, as I say, hang on in there, because as you will see from my graph - I have had weeks (7 to 10 day periods) where I have stayed the same, but the overall picture is still downwards and, as I say, gathering momentum now, despite forgetting to jag yesterday. You are definitely doing the right thing. The key is to stay positive. It WILL come off. I don't record gains - only losses or if I stayed the same.

Also, for those of you mentioning fatigue. Are your minerals balanced? Are you getting enough nutrition from what you are eating, or are you needing to supplement? I find wholefood Vit B really energising (take in the morning as they are a stimulant and may keep you awake if taken too late in the day). I notice a difference in my energy levels when I miss my supplements. Might help, but I can appreciate severe ME is very debilitating, and that will cause fatigue on another level.

Sorry - can't seem to add my chart, but there are several times when the line has not moved for 7 to 10 days, then a bit of a woosh.

NewbieMJ · 03/12/2024 11:03

😊Worked it out!

NewbieMJ · 03/12/2024 11:04

Maybe not!! Hoorah

@NewbieMJ
Thanks for your response about fatigue. Each morning I have one of those nutrition shakes with added vitamins, mainly as a way of making sure I get enough protein/calcium in my diet. I also take a multivitamin each morning along with some other stuff. I'm also supposed to have B12 injections but thanks to a massive needle phobia that ain't gonna happen. I take B12 sublingually to avoid the first pass mechanism as I don't absorb it if I swallow it, no matter how much I take in a day.

Made the spiced carrot lentil soup today for lunch - delicious

Hi can I join? I started on 27th November with my first dose. No side effects although I'm feeling hungry during the daytime but no desire to eat bad foods. I have been hit by a bug and have a cough, achy etc but it's going around.

My sw is 18st 1
Cw - weigh in tomorrow hoping
Gw- 11 st

Makes me feel sick to write that down! Last December I was 15st and cannot believe I've put on 3 stone since then. I didn't want to get to another year 3 stone heavier.

Pumpkinforever · 03/12/2024 22:19

Welcome @ohmyohmy123

are you in the November or December starter group as well?

ohmyohmy123 · 03/12/2024 22:19

Hi yes I am :-)

Arglefraster · 03/12/2024 23:46

Thank you for taking the time @NewbieMJ that was very kind, sorry to moan
i do really know that I just need to keep going but the brain that knows this is getting shouted over by the freaking out part which is somewhere in my chest/abdomen 🤷‍♀️🤣

i mean not keeping going isn't an option anyway & I have 8weeks of pens paid for so I really just need to forget about it & KBO & stop reading the month thread full of "I lost a stone this week"

The B vitamins thing is interesting I'll look into it -my fatigue is definitely a jag side effect but I wonder if it would counter. Always wary of anything that might stop me sleeping as I take handfuls of pills at bedtime to make me sleep!

Hi @ohmyohmy123 👋

MountKilimounjaro · 04/12/2024 03:49

Welcome @ohmyohmy123 I started at 18 st 1 too. My goal weight is also 11st.

You've made the first step which is fantastic.

I started in March and I'm currently 13 st 3, so have just officially left the obese BMI category.

You'll have good weeks and bad. I plateaued a lot (am currently on a lonnnnnng stretch of not losing), but if you keep plodding on and being consistent you eventually see major results. Often when the scales don't shift but your body does.

Good luck on your journey. You'll change a lot along the way, physically and mentally.

KittensUnderTheDuvet · 04/12/2024 20:27

I'm now a good 6 1/2 weeks in and 15.5kg / 34lb down.

SW: 155.3kg (BMI 47.9)
CW: 139.8kg (BMI 43.2)
GW: 75kg (BMI 23.1)

Would love to get down to 135kg by Christmas, although this might be a stretch with a few events coming up and all the lovely Christmas food calling my name rather loudly at the moment. I've just realised that I've now lost 10% of my starting weight. Still a very long way to go, but a first little mile stone. Currently shopping my closet and very pleased that lots of clothes I hadn't been able to wear for quite a while are fitting very nicely again.

With only 1.6kg / 3.5lb, weightloss has been a little slower this past week, but considering I had Spaghetti Carbonara one night and far too many chocolate truffles, paté, gingerbread and a large burger on Friday / Saturday, I'm not going to complain. DH's work sent their yearly very lovely Christmas hamper and, as always, neither of us could resist. Now the contents of the fridge are looking decidedly more boring and healthy again and it's back to protein and veg.

In the past, a few 'relaxed' days might’ve seen me falling off the wagon entirely, but Mounjaro has definitely helped me keep me on track. I’ve decided to stick with the 5mg for another month. It’s not perfect - suppression could be better and I still get the odd bit of “ood noise - but still working well enough. Besides, I’m also a bit worried about increasing the dose too quickly in case it stops working altogether.

On the downside, I’ve had a few side effects this week after coasting along with hardly any until now. Likely paying the price for the less healthy food at the weekend with terrible sulphur burps, nausea, and feeling a bit bloated. It’s certainly another incentive to get back to healthier meals, though I’m struggling with a serious cooking slump at the moment. I still haven’t tried any of the lovely soup recipes shared here!

I'm also really feeling the cold - sitting on the sofa with a blanket, a hot water bottle and a cat draped over me just now. Hoping the weather perks up a bit so I can get out for more walks.

Welcome to the thread, @ohmyohmy123 and @Slimwannabe - keeping my fingers crossed you're off to a good start!

@alwaysscared Thinking of you and your family, hope things will look a little less bleak soon.

alwaysscared · 04/12/2024 21:28

@KittensUnderTheDuvet thanks, things are bloody awful and I've been downing the jelly babies, which I feel shit about but can't help it! It's gonna be a gain this week I'm sure

in today’s Times.

Nice, the health watchdog, has ruled that 3.4 million adults are eligible for Mounjaro, the most effective so far in a revolutionary new class of anti-obesity injections. But a lack of NHS capacity means only 220,000 of these patients, fewer than one in ten, will be given the drug over the next three years, after spending years on waiting lists.

The arrival of weight-loss jabs has created a two-tier system for slimming down. Wealthy patients happy to pay £150 a month can easily get their hands on the miracle drugs, but anyone hoping to get them on the NHS may have to wait for years.

The drugs could ultimately “benefit a larger population”, because one in four adults in the UK — nearly 15 million people — are considered obese, meaning they have a BMI of more than 30.The rollout of Mounjaro will begin next year to patients who are already receiving care in specialist NHS weight-loss services

It's awful isn't it? I don't know if I can afford to continue once ourr mortgage goes up in Spring, so thought I'd start now and see how I go.

I was going to do the NHS year-long weightloss programme but it just seemed so dire - explaining basic nutrition etc. The intro session was excruciating, wven though it was clearly stated multiple times that WL jabs were not available, every question was "can I get WL jabs?"

Pumpkinforever · 05/12/2024 08:07

‘Most obese people will instead be directed to the NHS app offering weight-loss tips. Nice said they would “have to wait” for drugs in an effort to “protect other vital NHS services”.

So we will be directed to the app - great, I have done WW and SW and all the other diet stuff. My GP just said to me that we all need to lose a few pounds and I could have a free Covid jab! She didn’t want to talk about MJ possibility when I asked in October so I knew then I would have to privately fund. I have costed 8 months and then I will have to add on a maintenance plan I guess.

NearlyNewHip · 05/12/2024 08:10

I'm watching the news now and they're saying it will be 12 years until the bigger rollout to more people. They seemed to somehow make the Covid roll out work in less than 12 years.... I honestly think the obese are the forgotten, very sad. Very short term thinking. I mean the obesity related illnesses that will have to be treated during the 12 years and then the ones for who it will be too late and develop illnesses in the meantime

I'd love to better understand what they mean by 'NHS capacity'. I'm diabetic so have been prescribed it as a result of that but if I consolidate every single conversation five had with a health care provider about Mounjaro it would add up to 1x 5 min run through of how to take it, 1 x 2 min phone call at 4 weeks to make sure it was going ok and to take an updated weight, then the time it takes to approve the repeat prescription approval from my App request. So ultimately less than 20/30 mins over a 3 month period and only 1 face to face.

Darlinghag · 05/12/2024 09:21

Scales have finally shifted a little for me. I got to my lowest of 16st9.7 last wednesday and then gained for a solid week! But today, 16st9.4!!

Does anyone have what is called a ‘B’ shape belly here? I was really hoping mine would be less obvious by now given how much smaller I am otherwise, but I suspect I will be like this no matter how thin I am!

i am also wondering if i potentially have very early lipedema on my thigh too. I have a pocket of fat on one outer thigh that is much larger than the other, and a significant dip under it where my thigh just gets much smaller. I’m really hoping that it is just stubborn fat but it doesn’t seem to have shrunk much 🥺🥺 it just feels more obvious now the rest of me is thinner!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 05/12/2024 20:07

Well I've done my 5mg injection - if I'm going to have a stomachey reaction I tend to start with egg burps around lunchtime tomorrow so shall know more then.

BingoWingsOverScotland · 05/12/2024 20:59

NSV here - I'm a bit stalled in terms of actual kgs lost, but I have noticed that I'm prepared to look at photos of myself, and even take a few selfies, which I definitely wasn't before. And some trousers which I bought as an emergency "they'll do" purchase a few years ago, but which were always quite squeezed and very unflattering, now look actively nice. So that's good.

CatTraveler · 06/12/2024 10:58

I havent done an update for a few weeks on here (infact last one was on the last thread)

SW 134.7kg
Mini GW 100kg
GW 80kg (BMI just under 30)

CW 115.3kg (21 weeks)
19.4kg/42.8lb lost
55.9% to Mini GW
35.5% to GW

I am flying to Australia mid April (20 weeks away) and have prebooked one of the extra leg room/emergency exit seats. I know they are narrower seats and would stuggle to have been comfy in them at my biggest (and prob now as well) so this is my motivator at the moment - I am hoping that if I get to under my mini goal by then I will be ok. (I am trying to find a chair or something hat might be the same width as them to give me some idea)

I also am trying to make up my mind if I am going up a doze or not, taking my third injection of my third 7.5mg pen tomorrow. I do have a 10mg one ordered but I know I can change it to a 7.5mg if I want. I dont want to rush up the injections if I dont need to and I am still having some supression on the 7.5mg so I think I am sticking but having an internal debate with myself (the delivery is booked for the 18th so still do have some time).

The other thing I have done is I have worked out what day I want to take my injection on up to & including Australia, I have a couple of trips away before then, including a 2 week one and have done a plan of the best day to take the injection to work round them (taking it with me but the best day around traveling etc). I have a lovely spreadsheet tracking it all :-)

CrazyKats · 06/12/2024 12:26

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I posted but I thought I would just update on progress.

SW: 109
CW: 92.5

GW: maybe around 75, although 68 would be top end of BMI.

I've dropped one or two dress sizes, had to buy new bras and had a wardrobe overhaul off vinted. Sold a fair bit of stuff and used proceeds to fund new clothes.

Still noone has commented on weight loss 🤔

I'm now back at exercise classes. Much easier to move without the extra weight. I worked out I have almost lost the equivalent of my youngest child.

I'm titrating up from 5 to 7.5mg so somewhere around 6.25.

Have some worries about Xmas. I can't really drink as it makes me sick very easily and I get stuffed quickly. My main suppression is coming on days 4-7. Definite increase in burping/indigestion straight after injection now.

Hope everyone is OK and marching on along the journey xx
