So this is the syringe from Amazon it's marked sterile insulin syringe so I'm assuming it's OK to use!

How did you get on Jabtastic? Were the Amazon syringes ok?

Hi JasonTindallsTan thanks for sharing and v inspiring fitness journey. Very well done for keeping it going since the summer.

I have been stuck in a lot as my little ones have been constantly ill with one thing and another and my step count is pitifully low although I have re started swimming twice a week for the last month. A gym is included in my leisure membership but feeling a bit daunted going in there and getting starting for some reason, I can’t face an early walk outdoors in this freezing weather so is probably my best bet to go on a treadmill but have not been on one for so long! A bit of a mental hurdle atm

Hi. I've been reading these threads and had my pen in the fridge for over a month as I've been ill. Just had blood tests back and all good so I have just done it. It's so hard not thinking something awful is going to happen. Had a couple of woosh type feelings and my heart rate has gone up. It's scary. Having read these threads though I know there are some strange side effects. I have about three stone to loose 🙏🏼

Welcome on board qotsa! And to all the other new starters 👋 we’re quite an army now! :)

let’s do this!

Yay for jab day, jab day, jab day! Made it through the day with close to zero suppression and cannot wait to get topped up after the DC are in bed. Sugar def starts waving and coo at me on day 6 & 7. Go away sugar mama wants steak!

If they are marked sterile they are fine. I use them.

Hi
I've not used Mumsnet before so not sure who is going to see this message. It's regarding Mounjaro which I am thinking of taking as I have put on 2 stone in 18 months. However, I genuinely do not have an eating problem. In fact I have bowel issues which has meant I eat very little throughout the day as I feel full. I exercise regularly too. I do like my red wine though and Dr convinced this is the issue.
My question to those who have done research is whether Mounjara would make a difference. I understand it is an appetite suppressant but this is not my issue. I do have poor blood sugar control, according to Zoe, but I am not diabetic.
Any advice so gratefully received.

I was drinking most days and more at the weekend - I genuinely have not had a craving for wine since starting. It is the single biggest gain I have had from taking it. Good luck!

Gettingbysomehow · 20/11/2024 17:01

Just a warning. Side effects might not be.
I finally went to my GP because my mounjaro side effects were scaring me.
They did blood tests and I have really bad anaemia, ive had it on and off for years, absolutely nothing to do with mounjaro. They said more likely the years Ive spent dieting and starving.

Really good point Gettingbysomehow we should be mindful of strange or difficult symptoms as like you have found, it may be totally unrelated to WLI. Hope your iron is up and on the mend soon. I knew someone who used to swear by orange juice helping to absorb iron more but I don’t know if that is true or not.

Did they check your vitamin D levels too?
The two can be closely linked I think.

Just double checked and found this on the web:

“Vitamin D is essential to absorb iron. Therefore an iron deficiency may indicate low vitamin D levels in your body. As both are interlinked, it is essential to watch out for low iron and vitamin D symptoms and visit your healthcare provider to determine the root cause and receive a treatment plan.
Is Vitamin D Deficiency Common?
Vitamin D deficiency is a common problem, but it’s not likely to know you are deficient without blood testing. That’s because the symptoms are mostly non-specific and subtle, making it difficult to differentiate whether they are caused by vitamin D deficiency or other medical conditions.”

So… Mounjaro has given me a period!

I was on contraception that removed periods from the equation. For the first time in years I’m bleeding…

They were not messing about when they said in the leaflet that it affects contraception and alternatives should be in place!

Am thinking I may have to wear my pedometer for a couple of days and face the music! 🙈

I bought leggings with a phone pocket In and put my smart phone in it all day to get an accurate step count - you might not need to get a pedometer.

I have been watching an 45-50mins episode of a Disney/Netflix show per day on the treadmill since July and increased the incline by 0.5% each week to get to 6%. I was really sweaty but now feel fitter. I started a new Pilates-type system when I began MJ to help tone which seems to be working.

AlwaysTimeForWine · 20/11/2024 19:15

I'm on week 1, day 4 so on 2.5mg. Took it on Sat evening.

I've had a pretty easy time of it so far.
Headache on the first evening. Dry mouth for the first few days. Burps - normal, not sulphur, Insomnia was my biggest issue for nights 1-3 but that went away last night.

But today I had some nausea through the morning. Once I'd eaten a bit more and had some peppermint tea it went away. But I'm definitely more hungry today.

I don't get much suppression - I am hungry at meal times, but fill up quicker and stay fuller for much longer and haven't wanted to snack much, so am eating less. I suppose that's what it's supposed to do - not stop me eating completely.

But this evening I was eyeing up things in the supermarket and feeling picky. So I grabbed a pack of cooked chicken and ate that in the car on the way home. 😂 So that was a good choice.

As I still have 3 full days till my next jab I'm hoping I'm not hungry for those. I'm able to stick to lower calories (having about 1400 a day) because it seems to be helping me. I can't do it on willpower alone!!! But still early days and feeling very positive!

Hi ThisLuckyHam welcome to Mumsnet! So this is a public access online forum, anyone can view by coming to the site so most of us enjoy anonymity and don’t publicise personal details so we can share freely.

It is hard to know whether or not Mounjaro will make a difference for you as you can see we have very different experiences using it and with our weight loss results so far.

It may or may not help but I think the majority of us are finding it helpful like a tool that makes making better food choices and portions easier, dialling down food noise or switching it off altogether, and discovering other benefits along the way like losing interest in booze or smoking, though individual experiences really do vary. I have found it has really helped balance my blood sugars which were out of whack due to insulin resistance.

You need to be obese to have it prescribed privately so check your bmi online to see if you meet that threshold. The NHS can prescribe but a lot of us do not meet the current criteria, you can check this out on the NHS website. If you are obese but do not qualify for NHS prescription you can go through an online assessment with the private prescriber of your choice. They will want proof of your current weight most ask for photos and mine wanted a list of current prescription medication too. Lots out there, I’m with Voy as I wanted the extra support and lots offer this and others just send the pens (they tend to be the cheapest ones)

I hope that helps!

I am not diabetic but do drink wine most evenings. Does that mean Mounjaro won’t work?

A lot of us find the booze noise also dials down or switches off so you may find you lose interest. I don’t think wine effects how the med works but you probably won’t fancy it in the same way once on MJ

OK, but what's the cause?

This is where the gallbladder is located, upper abdomen under right rib, I have the scar to show for it :)

Gallstone attacks are a sudden and severe pain. Gallstones unfortunately are an elevated risk in ANY diet/ weight loss method. It’s how it happened for me I believe, years of yo yo dieting. But those of us who want to lose weight and not stay obese it is just one of those risks unfortunately but losing it slow and steady over a period of time is better than crash dieting (v speedy loss of lots of weight)

Please do get your gallbladder checked Mrsredliostick , it is a simple referral from your gp for an ultrasound. Quick painless scan will show up if there are stones there x

Plenty of people still drinking alcohol socially as far as I can see, but lots of reports that they just don't really fancy it anymore in the way that they used to.

I agree with others - get yourself checked out for gall stones. GP should send you for a scan.

i ended up getting my gallbladder removed privately as I could not stand a two year waiting on NHS and having operation bumped. Attacks are painful.

Might leave the incline though, at least to start with (I am a wuss! 😂)

I’m part way through week one … all been good so far, other than, if I eat a “full meal” (and it’s a lot less than I would have eaten in the past) , I feel naseous for 20 minutes or so afterwards, and am very “burpy” - anyone else ??

OliviaFlaversham · 20/11/2024 20:37

After you have done your 4th injection, does the pen stop working and that’s why you have to draw it out with a separate syringe to get the bonus dose?

Caplin · 20/11/2024 20:43

Officially joining in. Just took second dose today and lost almost 8lbs last week. Amazing suppression first three days, and gradually waned as the week went on. I was quite grateful for the second dose.

no major side effects so far. I’ve been doing the weight watchers GLP-1 plan on the side to help with eating better and finding the protein goal they set really challenging. I’m ignoring points and more focussed on protein.

I’ve been strength training in the gym with a PT for a couple of years so I’m strong, but my weight was just going up. She will be delighted with my sudden protein obsession 😂

Wine was my achillies heel, particularly at weekends, and I am pretty glad that my urge for wine has been dampened down. I did have a couple on the weekend, but significantly less than normal.

SW 18st 12.13lbs
CW 18st 5lbs
Goal 12st 6lbs

KeepCalmandGiveItaGo · 20/11/2024 20:56

Welcome Caplin and ExtraOnions

I suspect the nausea is something to do with the slower digestion/ gastric emptying. I posted upthread about a digestion aid I got in case of this but haven’t used it yet, a lady on,one raved about it though, it’s this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004R68GZE/ref=pe_27063361_487055811_TE_3p_dp_1

and well done on the excellent loss Caplin and strength training! I aspire to be strong like you one day :)
