@Thebaldprimadonna i think I’m the same. I’ve snacked a bit, enjoyed some treats and now I can’t stop thinking about them and wanting more. I’m not “hungry” so this is all desire rather than need. Not sure how to deal with it.

FlappyFish · 05/01/2025 13:27

@Thebaldprimadonna and @ThirdStorm thats precisely why I went back on MJ after a gap. I picked on chocolates and bits over Christmas even with MJ, and being back in routine has helped.

I didn’t realise how bad the food noise was until it all came back after MJ was out of my system. Like you mentioned, it’s a desire not a need and it’s very easy to do it mindlessly. I became so focused on what I could eat and when without MJ. Straight back into the no you don’t need it but you want to exhaustion.

It's such a challenge. I can afford (just) to stay on MJ for now, but not forever!

NextPrimeMinister · 05/01/2025 14:07

@Thebaldprimadonna

I start dropping my dose from next week. I'm at the point where at 12.5 I need to go up to get suppression.

Good knows how 10 is going to pan out. Plan is I maintain but am worried it won't.

I really hope the pill version takes off at some point. It's meant to be cheaper and hopefully a long term approach.

Great to have you back. You've got this.

Thebaldprimadonna · 05/01/2025 12:17

Weighed in after my few weeks off MJ. I was 10st 7 at my lowest and am now 11st 4... I'd say that half of that is from Christmas (and I was out for a meal and drinks last night).

I have my 2.5 in the fridge, so will be starting again today. I think it's fair to say that I still need to retrain to be without MJ.

It's so easy to forget that food noise exists and that you suddenly have it back.

My two weeks off over Christmas I was thinking about food all the time towards the end. But I didn't realise until I injected again, and then it was Jesus, that really is bad

I totally get it. And Ulits just further proof that it's our bodies that are the issue. Not us being gluttonous pigs!

please can anyone help

Can you please spam me with info for MJ. Both good and bad.

My mum is wanting to take it, but I want her to be fully armed with all the info she can, without overwhelming her.

I have goggled but even trying to wade through the amount of pharmacies just advertising and then 'mounjaro killed my cat' scaremongering is difficult.

Which of the original threads do you all think I should send? I think all would be too much info, but they are such a goldmine of info!
@ObsidianTree any particular threads you remember that stand out as good ones? Or anyone else?

I'm also acutely aware that a lot of the info from back then has changed and updated! And want to offer as much as I can without confusing.

Wonkypictureframe · 05/01/2025 15:21

I’m three weeks now since I jabbed. I’m definitely hungrier and able to eat more but so far I have put on 3lbs and that’s with Christmas eating and drinking. Tomorrow it’s back to healthy eating, to see if I can maintain where I am now with my usual eating habits. If not, I’ll be back on 2.5mg although I am a bit worried that Oushk have taken me off the Flex plan as they haven’t asked for any payment for over a month.

Flapearedknave · 05/01/2025 15:29

I've sent my mum the link to the general weighloss injection page and directed her to the bottom where all our threads are!

It's nice reading them back! Not so nice is the amount of horrible posts there were back then.

Hey,

I found one of the last threads I did with the first page info. Some info might be out of date ..

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5102149-continuing-mounjaropart-14

It's tricky to think of what information would be useful, but I think this pretty much covers the main starter bits to know.

@Wonkypictureframe
I don't know this, but wouldn't be surprised if the flex plan gets changed or dropped altogether. There doesn't seem to be a system to charge people each month (they surely can't expect everyone to just volunteer £20 every month without being chased or setting up a DD and what are they going to do if someone is a month behind and asks to go back on?), and I've seen others describe being off MJ a few weeks and get prescribed as new patients via a consultation so they didn't need to be on the plan. It's a messy option to manage consistently and fairly I'd have thought especially now other pharmacies do similar without the monthly charge.

Apparently there's going to be news this week about pricing so maybe there'll be something about it then. I'm a little unhappy about the charge for consultations on maintenance when originally the plans included monthly consults which I don't want or need but not sure why I'm being charged every 3 months instead. It's all very new still so hopefully, adaptations will be made now there's been a trial period.

Moanranger · 05/01/2025 17:23

@NextPrimeMinister I was speaking to a friend in California, and her sister, who is a nurse, is on a sub-lingual form (pill under tongue). So expect something here soon.

ObsidianTree · 05/01/2025 17:37

So I skipped my dose for a few days for Xmas and reduced my dose to 10mg after Xmas. I went back up to 12.5mg for my next dose but it doesn't seem to be working. I think maybe my body's build up has reduced so I need to build back up.

With the house being filled with rubbish I've been eating too much crap. I can't seem to stop myself either. Id hoped that 10mg would be ok but it's really not having much effect. Looks like I will have to stay on 12.5 or possibly back to 15mg to work on maintenance. I'm up 3lbs still but seems to be maintaining here so at least I'm not gaining loads. Hopefully my next dose of 12.5 will stop the appetite!

Yes there's Rybelsus, the tablet version of ozempic. It's a little cheaper but not massively. It's available here for diabetes management but not yet licenced for weight loss (but no doubt will be eventually).

Choux · 05/01/2025 18:05

I hear you @ObsidianTree. I haven't even had a break from my 10mg and haven't had an excessive Christmas but taking 10mg every 7 days doesn't feel like enough. I have taken this week's injection after 6 days and am really pleased next week's dose is the bonus dose so larger. I am only a lb up over Christmas but I don't feel in control of my eating at the moment.

Currently cannot see how I could drop lower than 10mg so I am worrying my supply will get off and I won't be able to go it alone.

ObsidianTree · 05/01/2025 18:32

@Choux hopefully you won't be cut off. It definitely isn't great to not feel in control. I suppose this is the hardest part! Trying to work on that self control for maintenance! I think if you are managing to maintain your weight on that dose, that's still a good thing.

I'm looking forward to the Xmas snacks being gone so I can get a bit of control back! I definitely felt like 10mg did nothing. Even the latest 12.5 feels like I might as well have been injecting water! I think I would like to aim to lose a few more lbs so that if I do try and titrate down again, I have a buffer.

Happy New Year 🎉 Well, we’ve moved house! Food has pretty much been whatever is quickest/available for the last few days and it’s only been today that we have been able to eat an actual meal with actual vegetables 😆 my scales have been in a box until today so I’ll weigh in the morning and see what the damage has been.

I’m back down to 2.5mg now and it’s jab day tomorrow. Last time I weighed on NYE I was 11.6.5 and a sneaky weigh this afternoon had me the same so hopefully the damage won’t be too bad. My next goal is for my weight to start with a 10. I’ve averaged half a stone a month since I started MJ in April so my target date will be the end of January 🤞🤞🤞

Pinkbendyman · 05/01/2025 21:20

Hi and a happy new year to you all!

I hope you don’t mind me posting; I started MJ in May and reached my final goal weight in November and am currently tapering down (4 weeks left at 10mg then 5 weeks on 7.5mg, then not sure which maintenance plan to follow)

My question is about my hypothyroidism because I’m sure some of you OG’s talked about having it on the main thread.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 20 years ago (54 yo female) and am currently prescribed 175mcg thyroxine daily.

My latest results have come back on 3/12/24:

Serum TSH level 9.76 mU/L

Serum free T4 level 15.7 pmol/L

So the TSH level is high and the T4 level is normal which indicates I’m showing as hypothyroid even though I’m taking my meds!

The GP surgery is aware of my weight loss and Mounjaro use.

In over 20 years I’ve never had such odd results so I’m really confused, especially with the negative talk surrounding MJ and thyroid cancer.

Also, because of the 4 stone weight loss, I should probably only be taking around 120mcg thyroxine daily (1.6mcg/kg body weight daily)

I've been told to stay at 175mcg for the time being and retest at the end of this month.

Has anyone else had their thyroid tests done since the weight loss and how were your results?

Thank you 😊

Wonkypictureframe · 06/01/2025 07:54

@KrankyKumquat hmm, thanks. I’m almost glad I’m not going mad about the payment. I’ve contacted them to ask about it but I really will not consistently remember to ask to be charged! Are other pharmacies now accepting patients with low BMIs and a gap in prescribing then?

The new prices are out and are a bit lower. The maintenance cost of 2.5mg is £115 or so.

MrsNessaSmithy · 06/01/2025 08:16

@Pinkbendyman your TSH seems very high and you are right your dose should need to reduce with the weight loss.
I had my thyroid removed and was taking 150 but now on 125 after the weight loss and my TSH is under 1.
In your position I would ask for repeat tests as the results are a
odd.
How are you feeling ? Do you feel that your levels are not right ?
I have talked about getting T3 levels tested before and plan to peruse that this year as I stall struggle with fatigue with a very low TSH.
There are others here on thyroxine who have been very helpful in the past and are very knowledgeable.

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/01/2025 08:29

I'm checking in!
I'm still gaining and losing the same lb since Xmas.
I'm really interested in the "set point" theory - I believe it's been debunked but I'm at the weight I was for quite a while years ago and it does feel like my body reckons this is a good place to stop now!

ObsidianTree · 06/01/2025 08:30

@Pinkbendyman your free T4 is still in range. The range is around 10 to 24 pmol. So you are around the middle of the range. The TSH seems to show as under active which is odd. So I do think a retest is needed. Problem is, drs won't do a full range of tests to check T3 etc, so you won't get a full picture. At the moment as the free T4 isn't low/high, I would stay on the dose you're on if a retest doesn't show much difference.

I have been meaning to do this myself also, but maybe pay for a private blood test to get all thyroid levels checked to get a true picture of what is happening etc. I did a quick Google and there are actually a lot of private cheap options for blood tests now.

Don't think it can be rybelsus. I tried it briefly when I couldn't get my hands on Ozempic back then. It was a gigantic foul tasting horse pill which you swallowed. it wasn't a an "uder the tongue". I also didn't work very well although I only had it a month and it was the starter dose.

Wonkypictureframe · 06/01/2025 10:40

A friend of mine was prescribed Rybelsus for a hormone issue by the NHS (not diabetes) and it made her horribly sick. She only managed three months on it.
