@NippyCrab sorry pup still poorly. Being sick isn't good bless her. Hope vet works out what is wrong with her

@MabelSpan a few potato's roasted won't destroy all the hard work uou have done - you still had a loss and now have the beautiful memory of dripping roasties forever

Has anyone heard from @NippyCrab ? I hope her pooch is ok.

NippyCrab · 11/11/2024 20:33

Hey how is everyone. Little poppet has perked up a wee bit, when I brought the boys back she sat up and I encouraged her to come out the bed and the wee soul did. She had some chicken and water and she was following me around a bit then she came and sat with me on the couch. I'm over the moon, shes slept a lot, from 2 till 6ish then after some more chicken has slept and still sleeping. Hopefully get results tomorrow.

Ive not felt hungry today, I had a banana this morning then a sandwich about 4pm. I got these little 70g prune pouches from Aldi for 85p and they taste nice need to poo lol.

@20bloodypounds you are such a wealth of knowledge, our bodies are so complicated and I am glad you're here to explain things to us. Is there a scientific reason our bodies hold fat in certain areas though, like tummy fat? It never seems to reduce as quick as the rest of the body when a diet is started.

So glad to hear the pup feels a tiny bit brighter @NippyCrab.

And sorry to hear of @Blondeshavemorefun's queasiness. It might a case of be careful what you wish for! The more suppression the greater the risk of unwanted sickness, I think. I crave the perfect balance where I sail through life symptom free and untroubled by nausea or uncontrolled appetites :)

poppym12 · 11/11/2024 20:48

Glad she's perked up a bit @NippyCrab.

I haven't eaten much today. I don't feel hungry then suddenly I do so I start to eat and I'm not enjoying it. I honestly can't think of anything I'd enjoy eating right now if I could choose anything.

I really need to get back to eating plenty of fruit and salads. I had to throw loads away earlier when I was looking in the fridge to see what I fancied.

MabelSpan · 11/11/2024 20:58

@NippyCrab Oh bless her, so glad she has perked up a bit and had a little food and drink. Positive signs! Fingers crossed for good results tomorrow. Will be thinking of you both😊
Prunes are so good!

@Blondeshavemorefun Hope you are feeling better now. I ate the last of my roast potatoes for my tea today!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2024 21:13

I thought I killed the thread as no replies for hours

@NippyCrab glad your cock lab pup is feeling better and on the mend hopefully bless her

@weaseleyes indeed. I have suppression def today the worst I've had as actually haven't wanted to eat but forced my self with cooked chicken (like the pup it helps lol) where usually I eat happily

I still feel queasy and barely eaten anything

But tummy is rumbling so have made a protein drink as don't want food

Hopefully tomorrow will be better as day 5 as usually by 6 /7 I'm starving

Snoopsteandcooper · 11/11/2024 21:34

@poppym12 You and I are still having the same problem. I'm on 5mg and keep going up and down the same pound grrrr. I'm definitely eating in a defecit, drinking lots of water, eating protein etc. I'm hovering at 13st 1lb. Strangely, whenever I have dieted before, I've found it incredibly hard to get into the 12 stone range, so my body doesn't seem to want to let go of the weight. I'm still having suppression on 5mg and have a 7.5mg pen in the fridge, but unsure how it will help if I'm already eating at a defecit?

MabelSpan · 11/11/2024 21:41

Here are a few of the things I eat and drink when suffering from the dreaded MJ induced nausea.

Mug of Bovril
Clear whey drink
Ginger or peppermint teas
Boiled mint sweets
Nairns stem ginger oat biscuits, these are strangely filling and 40% less sugar.
Kombucha, weirdly this really helps to settle my tummy!
Soups, tinned, homemade or cuppa
Scrambled eggs on toast or not lol
Chicken or turkey slices/pieces
Greek yogurt
Porridge

I hope some of these suggestions might help someone. I would love to hear what other people have to help them too, MJ nausea is so rubbish!

FlappingMadly · 11/11/2024 21:43

@poppym12 i forgot you were ill, sorry. 💐Inflammation also affects weight, often by quite a lot.
I posted before thinking to mention that our guts are sensitive to illness and play a big part in immunity so concentrate on good nutrition, lots of fibre - sounds like you’re doing that.

@NippyCrab good news! Hope she continues to get better and the test result shows something easily treatable. Our little furry budget guzzlers are such a worry.

@Blondeshavemorefun maybe it’s due to MJ building up in your system. I find the suppression is much stronger this week though dose hasn’t changed. Sorry it hasn’t eased.

lookathatbookcase · 11/11/2024 22:08

@Blondeshavemorefun oh no that the cost of suppression is nausea! I've found that when it's the Big Bad of MJ nausea, the only thing that really helps is really kick-ass electrolytes, like the type they'd give you if you got trapped up a mountain or stranded at sea. 'Liquid IV' are the ones I've used - warning, they do not taste amazing and need a lot of stirring, but they are very restorative when you need it. Hope you feel better soon.

NippyCrab · 11/11/2024 22:24

Thanks everyone ☺️ 😘
@FlappingMadly budget guzzlers 😂 I've told her she's getting a job for this bill!
@Blondeshavemorefun i meant to say earlier that I've tried the black edition Huel but it was chocolate and you're not keen on that flavour but it was really nice! I had it half in the morning and half later on.
@MabelSpan i love a wee Bovril and it's filling i find too. I'm going to try those ginger biscuits.
@poppym12 I've been terrible for having to throw stuff away because when I go to prepare it I cant face it with MJ. I've started to just get things when I need it like salad and veg which is a pain but saves food waste.

@Snoopsteandcooper there's an article regarding the weight plateau and why our bodies stick at a particular weight. I will find it and post it.

@Changinghabits1973 how are you feeling tonight my wee MJ twin, those symptoms sound rough. Hugs

Ive just ordered another 5mg pen as Oushk have £22 off all weight loss items until the 17th of November.
I'm worried about muscle mass, for anyone who is clued up can you help? I'm eating lots of protein but not to excess. Will this prevent muscle mass loss, I only walk for exercise, should I now be pushing my body to start doing resistance exercises? I'm asking particularly because I had a pair of jeans on yesterday and they are a smaller size but the arse was slightly baggy and I seem to have lost a lost off my legs and bum, tummy still chubs. I've got 2 stone to go but I want to make sure my body isn't losing the wrong thing especially with my age and health issues.
Sorry that was a right waffle of a post.xx

FlappingMadly · 11/11/2024 22:36

@NippyCrab i worry about muscle loss as I’m 53, peri menopausal too. A while back I began Michael Mosley’s just one thing push ups first thing in the morning which has started paying off and do lunges, squats, power ski etc whenever I’m cooking or making a drink.,
I forked out for a personal trainer but hasn’t been great because he’s been on hols, ill, away for a wedding, ill again. I walk a lot too and when nobody around do jumping jacks or side jumps or high knee running like a lunatic.
So I’m probably not the person for sensible advice 🤣

lookathatbookcase · 11/11/2024 22:38

@NippyCrab Yes, resistance training is a really good idea on MJ to preserve lean body mass, and build more muscle; it's also good for women anyway to build bone density and prevent osteoporosis; and it also cranks up metabolism. Making sure you're getting enough protein is a super-important part of this. I do weight training 1-2 x a week, and try to get a few yoga classes in there too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2024 22:44

Thanks all. Been a very weird day. Not my normal one at all

I am Hungary. Stomach rumbling but can't really face anything apart from an Aldi dinosaur - like Freddo frog. And he had 1.3G of protein or 5% of my daily allowance

So I ate him for protein 😂

Sure tomorrow will be better

But gives me an understanding of how crap some of feel

Tho how you bet suppression and nausea off 5 is beyond me
Ha ha

@NippyCrab hope pup is on the mend now.

@MabelSpan those roasties sound fabulous, and you’ve set me off fantasising about spuds & gravy.

@Blondeshavemorefun sorry you’ve been feeling rough. I think I can echo some others and say that for me the suppression equals the nausea, they come together unfortunately.

@FlappingMadly I lost track of counting calories over the weekend as had chance to eat out. Had appetite though and feel as though I ate like a horse, although it was still less than pre-MJ. I’m round about 800-ish today.

Feeling a bit grumpy this evening as the side-effects are back again. Jabbed yesterday, felt ok until mid-afternoon today. Started with mild sulphur burps, then a bit windy, ramping up to nausea, cramps and more diarrhoea this evening. Have been on a 12 hour shift today and could feel the rumblings the last couple of hours but thankfully got home before the worst of it started.

Super frustrating as I’m losing, and loving the results, but spending a couple of days each week on the toilet is a nightmare. Trying not to over-use the loperamide as I seem to end up with awful painful cramps, and them constipation. Can’t win!

Still only on 2.5mg. Can’t even bear to think how my body would react to some of the bigger doses, so bizarre how different it is for everyone.

lookathatbookcase · 11/11/2024 22:46

Also to add for more actual advise - if you want to get into weight training, I'd really recommend getting some private sessions with a trainer as you're getting started. Form is the most crucial part of it and I don't think you can ever properly replicate what you see on eg a YouTube video. A good trainer will show you the moves, help you with how you hold yourself, how to breathe, how to stretch and so on; and help you build good routines that you can either do at home or at a gym.

One of the good things about the increased attention to menopause and perimenopause, and the importance of weight training at that time of life, is that there are now load more gyms and trainers who offer dedicated care in that area. If you can, it's really worth tracking down somewhere / someone who is knowledgeable about this stuff, like how hormones / age / menstrual cycle will affect your energy and strength on any given day, and not just doing the 'PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY' guff. I go to a women's only gym and it is a world away from the sweaty men hogging the weight machines elsewhere.

FlappingMadly · 11/11/2024 22:47

Also when sitting knee raise crunches.
I have the bodyFX app and follow their free weight exercises. A friend who is now in menopause has mega arms and she follows the YouTube arms like Madonna video. It is a killer.

FlappingMadly · 11/11/2024 22:51

Oh and check out the Zoe talk on menopause exercise

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/11/2024 00:30

I guess I should count my chickens. I don't have the sulphur burps or the shits 🙀🙀😂😂

As some of you do💐

@NippyCrab love to poorly pup. Hope tomorrow brings a better day for us all

Goodness, I think I’d just have to live on the loo permanently!

Trying to find a silver lining… on one of my (many) trips up and down the stairs to the bathroom last night, I caught sight if my shadow cast on the wall and thought “oooh that’s what normal people look like”, instead of my previous blob. Generally not breathless on the stairs anymore either, which is good news.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday, and keeping everything crossed that @NippyCrab ’s dog is feeling better.

CrazyGoatLady · 12/11/2024 07:45

@NippyCrab I hope doggo is ok 🤞🏼

@lookathatbookcase that's very good advice to work with a trainer initially. Learning good technique is really important. I'm currently on the lookout for a new gym, I tried a place yesterday and I went to a group functional strength class. The deadlift technique on show from some people was appalling and the trainer wasn't doing anything about people lifting unsafely. I used to compete in weightlifting, I had years of coaching, and love being strong. But lifting badly can also cause serious injuries, I've seen it happen.

I would caution anyone who hasn't already got a decent base of strength or knows how to lift to avoid CrossFit style training where they yank the weights about and do their reps quickly. You can't maintain safe technique doing that.

WitchDancer · 12/11/2024 09:07

Morning all. It's weigh in and jab day today. I've had a mini whoosh and lost 3lb (yay!) so that's 1 stone 6lb now and I'm 16 stone dead on now. 1 more lb and I'll be in the 15's...

NippyCrab · 12/11/2024 09:21

Good morning, thank you so much for the exercise advice. @lookathatbookcase I used to have a PT and loved loved weights but my stupid chronic body doesn't allow continuity with attending sessions so if I invest any money in needs to be sustainable for me. @FlappingMadly i think you need to share this power ski move 😂 and wow you really to incorporate so much into your daily routine and that's what I need to do. @Blondeshavemorefun you're such a wee comic, but I'm sorry you feel so rough. X
@ChunkyMunky im here as your wee low dose buddy, although I've braved the 3.75 and I'm okay now.
@CrazyGoatLady my friend was new to the gym and she said oh I've booked some classes, one was cross fit lol. She came out in shock 😂 i tried to tell her but she was all on fire motivated haha.

Baby girl is much the same, shes notably perkier than over the weekend and this morning had some more chicken and a handful of kibble biscuits which she managed most of which was brilliant. She's normally a piranha (spelling) with food and inhales like a hoover. Ive to pop in later and see if the results are back

With me I'm so set in my routines I am going to set alarms to perform certain exercises during the day, it's not because I'm lazy I just genuinely forget. My brain works in weird ways. I know I need to make a conscious effort with resistance or I'll end up with a slimmer body and baggy flab. The arm workout sounds brutal but amazing as I need so much work done. Xx
