I’ve been very lucky so far and haven’t had any stomach issues (touch wood) just the not being able to 💩issues! Started with psyillium husk today, hopefully that helps, I’m gradually running out of natural things to try.
I ended up getting 0.8ml out of the 5mg pen, so will start on the 7.5mg next week.
Sorry you’ve also been poorly @AgathaLioness there seems to be a lot going around at the moment, I’m trying to avoid people and germs at the moment. I sing and December is a busy month and I don’t want to catch anything. I started using the first defence nasal spray earlier this year after a run of laryngitis and flu like colds and so far it seems to have held everything at bay.

I'm trying to drum up enthusiasm for Christmas meal planning, usually by this time I have a draft shopping list, know what I’m ordering in from M&S, worrying about making room in the freezer… but this year I’m just meh. Hopefully I’ll get my mojo back, usually I love to cook and feed people.

Slimwannabe · 04/12/2024 23:02

Sorry if this has been asked/answeted already, but could someone explain how "bonus" doeses work? I'm due to increase to 5mg on 29 Dec, but due to visit my parents on the 30th and i'm worried about bad side effects so I'd rather eke out my 2.5mg if poss!

Thanks for the First Defence tip, I'll try that!

There’s lots of info on the threads about it, you can force the pen to twist and break the mechanism, use a new needle and inject, but I draw the remaining liquid out with a small 5mm insulin needle, 0.6 ml will be a 2.5mg dose. When I used the excess from the 2.5mg pen I managed to get just over 0.7ml which equates to approx a 3mg dose. In all honesty though, I wished I had just gone straight to the 5mg as I had to use a lot of will power that week!

Thanks - I did a search but the threads I found only gave some info. I think I would prefer to force the pen as I have spare needles.what I couldn't find an answer on is how you know that you have a bonus dose? Do all pens have one due to the extra priming liquid, or is there some way to tell from the pen?

I don't mind having a bit of a bad week if it avoids spending our family get together hugging the loo! 😂

That’s correct, the extra amount is there for priming. You may not get a full dose, it all depends on how much you use when you prime the pen before each jab. Have a watch of this, explains it so much better than I can ☺️

My pen wouldn't twist for the last dose ,so bought needles of Amazon and got the dose that way ..don't think it was a full dose tho

@Cakesandcookiesnomore how much did you draw out? 0.6ml is a dose, so you can work out how much it was from that.

Cakesandcookiesnomore · 06/12/2024 15:49

I can't remember,it was 3 weeks a go

Has anyone had dumping syndrome..not entirely sure what is or what causes it

OP posts:
Snozzlemaid · 06/12/2024 18:55

Yes I have from the third week of taking 10mg. Terrible diarrhoea all of a sudden and dumping syndrome too. I'd never heard of it before but on looking into the side effects I was suddenly experiencing, I came across this and it is exactly what I have been suffering with.
I reduced my dose to 7.5 last week but still suffered so have only had 5mg dose this week. And so far so good.

OliviaFlaversham · 07/12/2024 14:22

I too have been first defencing-I listened to a programme on radio 4 a while back which said it does work 🤞🏻

Weekly weigh in today and second 5ml dose.
starting BMI 50.4
Week 1 weigh in -14lbs
Week 2 weigh in -9lbs
Week 3 weigh in -5lbs
Week 4 weigh in -3.5lbs
Week 5 weigh in -7lbs

current BMI 44.3

Surprised by such a lot this week as I’ve been really hungry so had to use a lot of will power and had a mini binge at the beginning of the week. Obsessed with food atm.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 07/12/2024 16:28

I’ve really struggled to eat my calories the last couple of weeks, I’ve been hungry but get full too quickly, I start 7.5mg next week, so this should be interesting! I think I’ll try just having breakfast and skipping lunch so I can eat a full (ish) dinner.

@Cakesandcookiesnomore I've not had any diarrhoea or sudden toileting episodes since my last dose that was 5mg.
I'm going to try 7.5 again later this week as I had been fine on that dose previously. It was a few weeks of 10mg that did it for me.

Cakesandcookiesnomore · 09/12/2024 13:00

For those of us that started on a high BMI ,this really is going to be along process..
It's slowly dawning on me ,there's no quick fix , however you choose to loose weight,it's not happening overnight, even with injections,I think I will still be obese in a year .

OP posts:
Snozzlemaid · 09/12/2024 13:31

Definitely. I started in May at 18st 6lbs and expect to reach target of 10st 7lbs possibly April or May next year. So it'll be a long process for me.
I did think at first I would use MJ to kick start the weight loss for a few months but I've no wish to stop using it yet, so will stick with it as long as I can.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 09/12/2024 13:57

I’m here for the long haul too, I’m quite excited about the changes ahead though, looking forward to seeing how I feel, what more I can do and clothes!

Bibulous · 09/12/2024 14:01

I'm trying to accept that it took me a long time to get to this weight so it's going to take a long time to lose it. If I average a couple of pounds a week down then it will take me at least a year just to get down to a BMI of 30. If it ends up costing me a couple of thousand pounds over that time but I regain my health then it's a price I'm willing to pay. I'm just hoping I don't start getting side effects or it stops being effective. I've lost over two stone so far and I can feel the difference but it's feeling in control of my eating that's made the biggest difference.

Yes and I actually think the slower the better as it helps acclimatise to the long term lifestyle changes needed as well as the help the jabs give by switching off the food noises - I do worry when I see 5-10lb losses in a week and I am pleased my losses are 1-2lbs a week . I’ve been fat for 50 years it’s amazing that I with the help of the jabs and some daily positive decisions prioritising my health I can be merely Overweight by this time next year . I never dared dream of a 2lb losses a week , each week. I too shall be on these jabs for life and the £150 odd a month will be my main financial priority after my kids needs .

OliviaFlaversham · 09/12/2024 20:46

When on Slimming World, I would lose 2-3 pounds each week. On the Cambridge diet it was 4-5lbs a week. But neither was sustainable for me as I couldn’t keep the will power up. MJ is definitely helping more with that but definitely not a quick or easy fix. It’s just with so much still left to lose (another 10 stone), it feels such an enormous mountain to climb still.

I thought I would come of at a size 20 ISH and get back to the gym to loose the rest.but I've had a few days where it's felt like I've injected water and and all the feelings of wanting to stuff my face all day have come back.
God help me when I do have to come of this ..I have no doubt the weight will go back on .. because every single time I've lost 7 stone ,it's all piled back on plus more
