Hi all, I have just read the full thread and I am seriously considering getting MJ.

I am a little nervous about the side effects - mainly digestive ones as I have diverticular disease although this is completely controlled by diet and not eating foods that trigger it.
I am also a bit worried about the risks of thyroid cancer - has anyone found any decent literature on this?
I am 5ft 4 and 17 st 7, BMI is 42. I have been on every diet since I was 14 but have felt fat my whole life! I know what to eat, I know how to portion control. I eat a very healthy diet on the whole but come undone in the evenings where I end up binging on ridiculous amounts of crisps and chocolate. So I am really hoping that switching off those messages from my brain will help me finally lose this weight.

I’m hungry today and so much food nose. Week 2 day 5. Thinking of jabbing a day early (so tomorrow instead of Saturday) as I am going away in a few weeks for the weekend and don’t want to take it with me!

Ive done that most weeks,..it just doesn't seem to last untill next injection

@JaroSally brilliant! Let the journey begin 👊it feels good looking forward to seeing the changes week by week.

@pomegra constipation is the bane of my life at the moment, kiwis do nothing for me. I have some magnesium citrate being delivered today, but it’s definitely taking a long time to figure out what’s going to work for me eventually. I’ve also been reading that too much fibre can cause constipation, such a balancing act. I was adding chopped prunes, flax and chia seeds to my yoghurt but that didn’t ‘move’ anything. I give everything at least a week before I say it doesn’t work for me, annoyingly we are all different.

I bought lactose, that helps and senna ,but was it you who didn't want tablets ..I can't remember, but I think lactose is sort of natural, except it's in a bottle 😉

Glad I found this thread .1st jag tonight which was fine .So much weight to lose bmi over 50 .Weirdly this Yr have finally had referral for psychology service which tbh was 30 yrs late but absolutely so insightful. If anyone can access this I would really recommend. The word diet is not mentioned but I heard about food noise for the first time.
I'm aware and planning for a long journey but that's OK cos its taken time to get this fat .
I'm looking forward to having more energy and less judgement from myself and others.
Good luck everyone

A phycology service sounds interesting, what does that entail

I've not had the success I saw on ticktoc ...no wow moments...
But I've definitely changed my eating,I can't remember the last time I snacked between meals ..
For me it's definitely slow and steady ..I've dropped a size in clothes and chucked a load out already ,but I've not weighed myself in a while .
I was very worried too ,in fact it took me a year of thinking it over before I paid and applied to go on it ..but I'm honestly so glad I did ..if you get side effects you can't cope with ,it's not long term ,it will be out of your system quickly

OP posts:
Cakesandcookiesnomore · 15/11/2024 18:40

I've obviously just jinxed me saying above I was so glad I started on it .
Just had a spare half hour to scroll ticktoc
Literally every ticktoc is someone saying they are coming of it due to pancreatitis..
I've not got a gallbladder,I had it removed 20 years ago ,but it says you can still get pancreatitis
.does anyone know ..like if you get pancreatitis on MJ ,is that it you have it for ever ,or will it go away if you stop taking mj.
Also a lady died recently taking it ,.. suddenly all articles seem negative, where 2 weeks ago they were all positive..

@Cakesandcookiesnomore it's just a popular news item at the moment. It obviously gets an audience and so stories, especially ones with eye catching storylines will continue to be published.

The important thing is that the actual risks haven't changed. There's been no additional safety warnings or official changes to guidelines, or anything at all like that. TikTok is entertainment, and its algorithms will feed you things that are similar to what you've spent time watching. Like many other social media platforms. People are wanting likes, clicks, follows etc etc hence the most salacious stories being promoted.

Thanks, I’m trying magnesium citrate at the moment, I’ll give it a week to see if it helps, if there’s no difference I’ll have a look for some lactose

Iwouldratherbesinging · 15/11/2024 23:36

This makes for an interesting read, and the benefits of taking MJ far outweigh the risks. https://medauth2.mdedge.com/content/doctors-caution-over-weight-loss-drug-link-nurses-death as Silenceinside said, it’s a popular news item at the moment.
Our high BMIs put us at risk of cardio vascular disease, certain cancers, stroke and a multitude of other things.
I'm happy to accept the risk of taking MJ, because if I don’t I’ll remain obese, unhappy with myself and a greater risk of a shorter life expectancy.
crikey, that was a bit of a dark post! Sorry…
To lighten the mood a bit, it was my 37th wedding anniversary yesterday, we went out this evening, nothing fancy, went to Wagamamas then the cinema. I had a Pad Thai, couldn’t finish it, in the cinema, I had water and took some dried mango to nibble on. I didn’t even feel tempted by pick and mix or chocolate - happy days!

Thank's for reassurance guys .
Feeling a bit anxious still ,
I really wish I'd not let things get so bad I have to turn to medication to loose weight

OP posts:
pomegra · 16/11/2024 08:06

Yeah I'm also not reading too much into it as I think it's just the news going nuts, I still see lots of positive outweighing the risks. But it's also scary taking on a new medication isn't it so I totally get it.
W1 D6 I've not been thinking about snacking or even doing it between meals. Last night I had chilli and a few tortillas and enjoyed it, and usually I like some snacks but didn't even feel like them. Going to weigh myself on Monday morning I think but trying to not fixate on numbers yet as that's been my mistake in the past. So far so good

pomegra · 16/11/2024 08:07

@Cakesandcookiesnomore we completely get it, don't beat yourself up.

OliviaFlaversham · 16/11/2024 08:21

Week 3 Day 1 (3rd injection and weigh in day)
My knees hurt less, some jeans I bought a year or so ago in my size but didn’t fit now fit comfortably and BMI has gone from 50.4 - 46.8. Such a long way from healthy though. Wish I had done this months ago when I was dillying and dallying over it. 23lbs or 10.4kgs down.

I think I'm on my week 6 all together,so two more 5mg before I move up .
I suppose one wobble in 6 weeks isn't to bad .
It's so helpful hearing about other people on the same journey

OP posts:
Iwouldratherbesinging · 16/11/2024 16:49

@OliviaFlaversham is that 23lbs in two weeks??!! Even if it’s is 3 weeks that’s still a ‘wow’!

I’ve hardly eaten anything today, had a probiotic mini yoghurt drink this morning, lunch time I had an apple, but with some peanut butter (first time I’ve tried the two together, delicious!) and a mini babybel. I’m hungry now which is good, going to have a prawn salad and my weekly ciabatta bread roll for dinner.
Ive also oven baked some chopped up peaches and nectarines with cinnamon and honey, can highly recommend this, feels really indulgent.

OliviaFlaversham · 16/11/2024 17:50

@Iwouldratherbesinging I started on the 2nd November. Food noise is definitely creeping in but I know I don’t physically need to go into the kitchen right now and gorge on a sharing bag of crisps and loads of buttered toast!

Really hoping when I move onto the 5 dose after this pen that I get suppression enough to not need the amount of willpower I’m using today as the whole reason I’m soooooo fat is that my will power is dreadful and then the off the wagon self-sabotage is even worse.

OliviaFlaversham · 17/11/2024 22:12

Can anyone recommend a gentle but worthwhile exercise plan to follow?

pomegra · 18/11/2024 09:17

Good morning. Second jab of 2.5 planned for tonight.
Reflections on my first week are that I've had low symptoms which were constipation towards the beginning of the week but less as the week has gone on. I've felt hungry and less inclinations to binge. I've been uninterested in food, I've noticed hours will go by and I've not eaten or thought about it which is dramatically different. I need to plan better to make sure I eat at proper times. I don't know if any of this is placebo effect as I'm focused on wanting to commit maybe but I'm taking it as a win.
This weeks goals are to exercise, I'm planning a swim and exercise bike. I'm on holiday Friday to Monday so will be less planned so hoping to have a good week until then. I'm also going to track my food and drink a bit more to try and see what I'm having.

I wish I started weeks ago tbh but I'm here now.
Starting BMI at the beginning of the year was 57.6, and last week it was 52.6. Planning to weigh tomorrow and track moving forward.

Hi @OliviaFlaversham I am not sure of a specific one. What do you like to do? I like to swim and have been giving the exercise bike a go but I do struggle. I have an office desk job so often don't get many steps in but that could help?

I swim in a morning,4 times a week , usually 6 times, but I'm taking it easy after being on crutches..that's all the exercise I manage

I'm on my third week of 5 mg .
It's not been any different from 2.5
I've got 7.5 in the fridge waiting.
Sometimes I get suppression
Then other days it's like I'm just injecting water
It's definitely not consistent with me 😕

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/11/2024 23:37

My BMI was around 40 when I started and I have been losing at the rate of 0.5-1kg a week (1-2lb) since May.

I find the suppression is less effective if I haven’t had enough sleep so I would try to prioritise that if you can.
As you are vegan I would look at getting some vegan protein shakes to keep your protein up. From memory Huel is vegan and My Protein do vegan clear fruit flavoured protein and more classic style protein shakes.

Have a read of some of the longer running threads even if you don’t want to post, there is some really good advice and experience on them.

46mumof6 · 19/11/2024 01:39

Hi, I started 2 weeks ago and have lost 10.5lbs

I need to lose about 12/13 stone altogether, I have given myself until my 50th in September 2026,

I am disabled so I can't really do exercise but once I've lost 5/6 stone I will try swimming.

Good luck to everyone Flowers
