Hi everyone! I have read through this thread while I wait for my 1st pen to arrive! Its now sat here and I can't bring myself to open the package I'm absolutely bricking it.

My BMI is 49 and I think that the injection is my best chance of having 'normal' thoughts and feelings about food. I have ADHD and I'm menopausal on HRT and feel like everything is against me when it comes to controlling my weight and food in take.

Welcome sally ..it is very nervous racking at first , because you don't know what to expect and if it will hurt ,and I was worried about doing it wrong .
I wish I had started a year ago ,when I first started thinking about it .
The good thing about it is being able to eat normally when your at target weight ,and indeed while on the injections..and that is a huge bonus over WLS

I think it will come with time @OliviaFlaversham because I was just saying to dh that Ive gone off a lot of food - anything I think Id like to eat, I also know I wouldnt manage and it would sit too heavily in my tummy, even after a few mouthfuls, so I wouldnt enjoy it in the end.
Well done on your loss! You've lost almost as much as I have in 5 months!

I've actually gone off a lot of food as well

Well my low mood seemed to pass actually, almost as quickly as it came on ..so I haven't had to ask for antidepressants yet.
I'm usually down when it's darker earlier,I think I need to find my sad lamp .
Before the injections I was on mysimba which has an antidepressant in it ,which was why I picked that first ,rather than go straight to injections
But the mysimba gave him terrible, terrifying nightmares..where I woke up in a blind panic with my heart racing ..so that's how I ended up going on to injections and thankfully side effects are not as bad

I'm absolutely regretting not starting in February when I originally wanted to. I asked my Dr but they were not offering any support at all I was told to use a child's plate and cutlery and really think about if I wanted to eat cake and treats before eating them! I told her that yes I did really want cakes and treats! She didn't find that funny though she also refused to give me any support fir some mental heath trouble I had a few years ago and told me to pull myself together! Anyway I didn't know that I could buy it privately until more recently.

Welcome @JaroSally. I, like others was exactly the same and terrified about doing the jab, side effects, will it work, all the usual questions, now I’m wishing my life away and want to be further into the journey. There’s no pleasing me 😂. Let us know how you get on…

Glad that your low mood has lifted, I’ve been very lucky in that it’s not something that I have ever suffered with, but my youngest who is 33, suffers very badly and it’s heartbreaking to see and I can’t ‘fix’ it.
Mysimba sounds terrifying!

I don’t know if this is a general thing or a me thing but my adhd symptoms have lessened in the 1.5 weeks I have been on this. Procrastination, time blindness and paralysis, overwhelm and wakeful nights are all improved!

OliviaFlaversham · 13/11/2024 18:06

I’m so cross I ever let myself get so fat. I’ve never been thin. Not since I was about 7. And I’ve lost decent amounts in the past (5 stone) on Cambridge and Slimming world and then put it all back on plus a few more stone! When I took my first dose of mj, I was 4 stone heavier than my starting weight when I did sw.

I am Week 2 Day 4 and first time for food noise and hunger since Day 2. Is there a noticeable difference when you increase to 5? I have two more weeks at 2.5.

Mysimba sounds terrifying!

There's a Facebook group for it ,and so many people do a post that they are starting it ,and they ask lots of questions.
But only the people in the first couple of months seem to answer .
And so many people come back on saying they have stopped due to side effects.
One of which is high blood pressure, and sickness and horrendous constipation much worse than anything I've had with injections.
Glad to be of it for sure

I feel the same ,I feel hugely embarrassed that I let things get so bad .
Plus I don't look like I weigh what I do , because I'm very tall , people always said to me ,that I carry my weight well..
Life just got in the way of taking care of myself

@OliviaFlaversham I hope I have the same that would be amazing 👏

Iwouldratherbesinging · 13/11/2024 18:35

@OliviaFlaversham I’m only on day 4 of 5mg, first two days I didn’t really feel any strong suppression but certainly didn’t want to eat everything, it was very easy to eat sensibly. Yesterday (and today, so far) I had breakfast, tried to have some lunch but still felt full from Greek yoghurt and fruit, couldn’t finish my dinner last night, managed about half of a small plate, and I’m not hungry now, but I’m going to try and eat something, plus I need to feed my poor husband!
Everyone is different, I expect this feeling to wear off slightly tomorrow so hopefully I’ll manage some lunch! But it’s definitely stronger than on the 2.5mg dose for me.

November2024WL · 13/11/2024 19:58

My husband is feeding himself! I think he is feeling the change of me not being on hand in the kitchen. I have also informed my DC when they come home from Uni I will be doing less cooking and shopping. I will pay for any shopping they buy but I do not want to take on the role of thinker, shopper and cooking of all meals. They are all adults now. We have a Lidl 10 minutes walk away so my role in the family around food is changing and they will all have to cope.

Same - I prioritised everyone and everything else. And now that I'm clawing it back, I realise it so wasn't worth it. They're managing well enough without me being around so much, and they would've done back years ago as well. All I did was make things very easy for them for almost 2 decades.
But it's easy to look back with hindsight and wish we'd made different choices - I'm trying to be positive now and make better decisions moving forward.

JaroSally · 13/11/2024 23:05

My husband has just given me my injection! I had it prepared and ready but couldn't do it. The man is a secret professional I didn't feel a thing!

Anyway it's done now and I'm on my journey and I'm so excited for the future which hasn't been the case in a while.

OliviaFlaversham · 13/11/2024 23:42

Good to know going up to 5 is noticeable in a good way. I definitely need help with will power.
My photos for getting accepted for mj were shocking. I never have full length photos done and certainly not in form fitting clothes and from the side and fully forward!

giggly · 14/11/2024 00:10

@JaroSally Well Done for getting started. I previously done Saxanda 2 years ago and lost two stone but stopped due to cost.
Started MJ in May this year at 24.5 st and BMI of 48, heading ago for a stroke. I am menopausal and have an autoimmune disorder so weight loss is always slow for me.
Today I have hit the 3 stone loss and have stayed on 7.5 for the last 3 months as I still have suppression and no food noise.
This dose works well for me with little side effects, I have to keep an eye on the poo situation as I don’t manage 2/3 litres most days.

my lose compared to others is slow but I’m not bothered and hoping that my skin will be less saggy as a result.

my advice would be to not compare yourself to others journeys and just focus on feeling and lighter every week.
I no longer get out of breath as much as I did
and can absolutely see my shape changing

pomegra · 14/11/2024 11:26

Well done @JaroSally hope you are feeling ok?

Posting if it helps. W1 d4 and I've just had my usual breakfast of fruit, yoghurt and granola and I must say, I am feeling so full like I have eaten a Sunday roast dinner. It was a reasonable portion but not huge.

The constipation is uncomfortable though, I've tried drinking apple juice and I'm going to buy some prunes. I'm put off trying medication at this point as I had some senakot one time and had crippling stomach aches. Any other natural remedies? Il try more high fibre too.

SilenceInside · 14/11/2024 11:36

@pomegra kiwi fruit are apparently good for digestion and constipation. I don't like the green ones, but have recently tried golden kiwi fruit which are sweeter and juicier but not many more calories (45cals for green, 55 for gold). The skin is also thinner and not furry, so if you can manage to eat the skin too then that's apparently ideal.

JaroSally · 14/11/2024 11:57

I'm feeling fine this morning I'm not sure anything has actually kicked in yet but my mouth is very dry is that normal?

pomegra · 14/11/2024 13:00

@SilenceInside thank you, we have kiwi in the fridge! And I love the skin strangely so will give it a go

Iwouldratherbesinging · 14/11/2024 14:12

@JaroSally brilliant! Let the journey begin 👊it feels good looking forward to seeing the changes week by week.

@pomegra constipation is the bane of my life at the moment, kiwis do nothing for me. I have some magnesium citrate being delivered today, but it’s definitely taking a long time to figure out what’s going to work for me eventually. I’ve also been reading that too much fibre can cause constipation, such a balancing act. I was adding chopped prunes, flax and chia seeds to my yoghurt but that didn’t ‘move’ anything. I give everything at least a week before I say it doesn’t work for me, annoyingly we are all different.

OliviaFlaversham · 14/11/2024 17:25

I’m hungry today and so much food nose. Week 2 day 5. Thinking of jabbing a day early (so tomorrow instead of Saturday) as I am going away in a few weeks for the weekend and don’t want to take it with me!

Glad I found this thread .1st jag tonight which was fine .So much weight to lose bmi over 50 .Weirdly this Yr have finally had referral for psychology service which tbh was 30 yrs late but absolutely so insightful. If anyone can access this I would really recommend. The word diet is not mentioned but I heard about food noise for the first time.
I'm aware and planning for a long journey but that's OK cos its taken time to get this fat .
I'm looking forward to having more energy and less judgement from myself and others.
Good luck everyone
