@KittyGetSmall is this your first week on 5mg?
What about protein shakes to make sure you are getting enough energy.
How has your weight loss journey been up to now?

MissBPotter · 25/10/2024 17:46

@KittyGetSmall sorrt to hear how bad you’re feeling.

agree that it could be worth trying more protein definitely. I have found the clear whey protein to be excellent and I am addicted to the alpro protein yoghurts.

skiptrip · 25/10/2024 17:47

This was my first week on 5mg and I've had really good suppression. Some queasiness but not too bad - just making sure I keep drinking plenty of water and eating Greek yoghurt or kefir most days. I've noticed the days when I don't have it are when I feel worse. A couple more pounds off - happy with that.

@KittyGetSmall it doesn't sound like what you are doing now suits your body. How were you on 2.5mg? Were you hungry? Were you still losing weight (even if it was slowly).

I'm on my second pen of 2.5mg. Supression was wearing off so I took my second injection 2 days early. That was fine so I took my 3rd injection 2 days early too (cumulatively 4 days early). It's been hard and I'm not planning on taking the 4th dose until the full week is up. For my body, it seems that 7.5mg over 15 days is pushing it. I've got a 5mg pen on order but I doubt I'll be moving up to that amount.

I've been staying with friends so not as in control of my eating as usual, but two meals a day have been more than enough (and have left me feeling bloated and stuffed), and I don't really think I've had the right kind of balanced nutrition. All compounded by feeling too full too late at night and not sleeping properly.

Choux · 25/10/2024 21:23

@KittyGetSmall am sorry you feel unwell. Mounjaro is a prescription drug and needs to be used responsibly according to the instructions. Scrolling back on Sunday morning you posted"Feeling sick again today
The 2 x 2.5mg in a week is too much for me.
Might wait till a weeks passed and try 3.75

Had 2 quorn sausages as I've not been eating till 5pm because of nausea but I just feel like I want to be sick. Trying to keep them down."

But then the next day on Monday you posted that you had taken another 2mg. With kindness, if you were feeling so ill on Sunday you probably should have held off taking more on Monday. Our bodies can only take so much and you have lost a stone from your 2.5mg pen despite having a relatively low starting weight of only 11st 9.

Have you been getting any advice from your provider because you have also had a gastric sleeve a few years ago? I am not medically trained so I would speak to them for advice (if you can get hold of them which is not always easy) but I would say that, if you do decide to continue treatment, dropping to 1-2 mg a week might help you avoid the regular nausea and vomiting you have been having. You can then lose weight slowly and safely and you will hopefully feel much better.

You have done amazingly well getting from 18 stone to 11 stone in recent years. Good luck working out the next stage of your weight loss journey.

KittyGetSmall · 25/10/2024 21:47

Am bowing out of this thread.
Good luck with your journeys ladies, wishing you all the best.

Had a Diabetes review Thursday and sent off a load of bloods, results have started filtering back and looks like I have high cholesterol and low TSH (thyroid) so should be interesting conversation with the nurse next week. Still waiting on the A1C result which is the one I really want to see because that will tell me if my blood sugars have reduced.

Weight loss is going good, hit 24 lbs down this morning , I'm about 10 weeks into my diet, 8 weeks of that on MJ.

theluckiest · 26/10/2024 09:20

Morning all!

I'm amazed and slightly jealous of all the big losses some of you guys have!! 👏👏👏

I'm another lb down. Whoopee. 😒

I know a loss is a loss and it's a marathon, not a sprint. I've definitely noticed I'm hungrier this week but as I'm due to go up to 5mg, I'm not too concerned. Did anyone notice a big difference with this jump? I'm slightly worried about side effects but the only thing I've had has been a slightly iffy taste in my mouth and being thirstier.

sigh my scales have spent the last week bouncing around the same pound. I'm having a little moan, but only a little one, because I've hit 10% weight loss now and a lot of people stall around the 10% mark. Also I had a big loss last week, so body needs to catch up! It's just weird knowing I'm eating under maintenance daily and not losing weight.

I've not changed anything diet-wise and suppression is still good. So I don't think increasing dose will help - I suspect I just have to ride it out. Would almost certainly have said 'bugger it all' and eaten cake if I was doing this with 24/7 willpower, though!

Do you have a previous cholesterol result to compare to? Because whilst it might be high, it could be lower now that you are watching what you eat and clearly losing weight.

I have (hopefully it's now 'had' but need to get a retest) high cholesterol but not so high that I needed immediate statins. They were happy to let me try to resolve with diet and exercise first before prescribing drugs.

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/10/2024 10:51

@Choux I dont have any previous test results so this is my starting point. Have an appt with the Nurse Friday so we'll see what she says. What's interesting is they called me about the cholesterol and made a point of saying that's what the appt is for, but when I checked the results online I saw that my thyroid results were low and flagged by the Dr for a discussion with the nurse. My understanding is that low thyroid can cause high cholesterol as well as a whole host of other things so I wonder why they don't seem to want to talk about that?

Hildabaggins · 26/10/2024 12:49

I’ve put on 1.5lb over the last few days. It’s got me down. I don’t understand how I am putting on weight when I have reduced my calorie intake so much. I was really busy yesterday, I didn’t have any breakfast, I had a leggera pizza from pizza express for lunch and then I hardly had anything else for the rest of the day, just a couple of crackers with cheese at dinner time.

I feel like I’ve hardly lost anything compared with other people on this thread. I know I shouldn’t compare though and I’m in a much better position than I was at the start of September.

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/10/2024 12:53

I know being on these meds doesn't mean fasting but wondered if it could have. similar impact?

What were you drinking during the day and if you were to guesstimate would you say you come anywhere near 2lts water/black tea/clear fluids a day? If you were busy, running about and only really ate carbs and dairy then I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were retaining water. Make a concerted effort to drink lots of water today and tomorrow then weigh again and see if there's an improvement.

Choux · 26/10/2024 13:03

@Hildabaggins carbs always make me gain and I imagine there was a relatively high salt content compared to a homemade dinner. As @InfoSecInTheCity says drink a lot of water today and see what the scales say tomorrow.

Choux · 26/10/2024 13:05

@InfoSecInTheCity I don't know anything about thyroids but perhaps the cholesterol is what need rectifying most urgently to prevent future heart and artery issues. The dr may then say the thyroid won't be helping the cholesterol and look to improve that along with discussing how you can help lower your cholesterol with diet etc.

20bloodypounds · 26/10/2024 18:35

At last I'm feeling back on an even keel and ready to take another dose of 2.5mg tomorrow, my 8th I think. I ate a big brunch and will have various japanese nibbles (including lots of veg) tonight. I find that small dishes that I can pick at suit me well in the evening - I'm neither plating up a mouse's portion of food nor leaving lots.

Apart from week 1 when I lost 5lbs I am just losing slowly but relatively steadily. I'm fine with that.

@InfoSecInTheCity I think that prescribing statins for high cholesterol can be an easy 'fix' for the NHS. If you don't know what your baseline is then you might want to discuss continuing with MJ, diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and see where it gets you. As we see on all these threads our bodies respond so, so differently to medication that I am increasingly sceptical of standard pharmaceutical regimes. My own experience on blood pressure meds is that if I take nothing my BP is extremely erratic, but if I take half the minimum dose it stays stable an at an acceptable level. GP can't prescribe that dose because it is not proven to be clinically effective. So they prescribe a full dose and I take half, throwing the rest away. It's only pharmaceutical industry profits that are getting any benefit out of that!

But, of course if you need medication, you must take it don't listen to a random on the net Grin

Every second week I put on weight - about 3 lbs. This has always been my pattern whether dieting or on mounjaro or off. It follows my periods and ovulation - I'm on HRT now so don't have periods but it still follows that pattern. It's one of the reasons I fail at dieting a lot. But by the 6th or 7th day I start to lose again and by the end of the following week it tends to be better and I'll have made an overall loss. It's really frustrating but someone on here gave a really good tip - only look at a graph of the last 30 days and not the last week and you can then see that overall you're losing and I've found that really useful. Hope that helps.

This is my last month. Very up and down!

Now draw a straight line from the first reading and the last and look at the direction it goes in.

Your trend line is the only thing that matters, if it goes in a downward direction then you are doing well.
