@acaciabluebell how are you feeling now. I had a similar experience. I had slightly more than 5mg last week and was really ill and moved to 7.5mg this week as had already bought the pen and am still feeling rough - constant nausea and sulphur burps. I’ve lost 18lbs in 9 weeks and have a lot more to lose (5 stone) so don’t want to give up. I can’t keep feeling like this though. Has anyone gone back a dose? Am considering counting clicks to 5mg next week.

I had really bad nausea moving up to 5mg - I lowered my dose the following week but also bought cyclizone which I now take any time I feel nausea coming on. I'm now on 7.5mg and have only needed to take a couple of tablets since buying them but it's helped me knowing I have a solution to hand if it happens again - I can't afford to lose time off work at the moment as my job is extremely demanding.

Elephantino · 17/11/2024 08:02

12th jab for me this week, I dropped from 5mg to 2.5mg as I've decided this is my last pen so wanted to titrate down. I've not been losing a lot of weight at all, I had 3lbs first week then loosing half a pound or a pound. Bouncing around now between 212 and 210 (start weight was 222) annoyingly I've been hovering around the next stone bracket ...it was half a pound away at one point and I was confident I'd get there but no I gained a pound instead this week.

I've spent £370 and quite honestly have felt an underlying feeling of being unwell since I started.

I'm sad it's not for me but I need to be sensible and realise the cost outweighs the benefit. Good luck to you all and hope you continue with your losses 👏

SpottyBumPony · 17/11/2024 08:04

@Elephantino sorry to hear it’s not working as expected. How many calories are you eating? MJ won’t cause weight loss directly, just help you manage hunger as you reduce your intake

EBoo80 · 17/11/2024 08:10

@Elephantino sorry to hear that, but sounds like giving up will be a relief.
do keep us updated on how titrating down goes? I’m trying to decide between than and cold turkey in the new year.

Elephantino · 17/11/2024 08:23

@SpottyBumPony I'm currently on 1400 but have been cycling calories so its not static. My TDEE is 1900.

I had lost 2 stones prior to starting MJ following SW but wasn't following that once I started and logged everything in MFP.

I could cope with staying the same etc if I was getting good weight loss on other weeks but I'm not getting that either.

I used saxenda 2 years ago and wasn't successful with that either and then when I joined SW I lost the 2 stones within 10 weeks but then just stuck again.

Elephantino · 17/11/2024 08:27

@EBoo80 I can tell you already that my suppression has really diminished since going down to 2.5 on Friday. Still not finishing meals but thinking about eating more than I have been. One thing I have loved is that I have not been drinking alcohol for the last month, I just don't fancy it. I would love it if my wine habit doesn't return.

HippityHoppityhoo · 17/11/2024 09:03

Hi All, can I join please?

I've been really rubbish about regularly posting & keeping up with threads and month boards but having read through your posts on here I think this would seem a good home for me Smile

Congratulations to all of you for your progress so far as well as your support of each other

I started at the end of Sept, details below, weight hasn't whooshed off at all, but I've learnt lots during this time about why I eat/ reach for things and actually don't need to

SW: 295.4 BMI 45.3
CW: 280.2 BMI 42.6
GW: 167.6

I took my final 5mg dose on Friday (have new 7.5 pen arriving in the next couple of days) but since taking it I'm struggling won't that sulphur burps and upset tummy others have mentioned.

I think it has been triggered by a fatty meal I had on Friday at lunchtime having taking my injection in the morning so myself to blame and lesson learnt but it's left me feeling lousy.

Will see how I feel as the week goes on re moving up to 7.5- has anyone else had these side effects before moving up and it's been ok?

Seldomseenkid · 17/11/2024 09:48

Good morning all. I’m not quite sure what week I’m on, around week 12. I’ve been on 2.5 for two weeks now as I seem to be very sensitive to MJ so have had to increase very slowly and only when suppression is significantly reduced. I’ve lost 4 pounds this week and so I’m exactly 2 stone down since starting. Not sure why the big loss this week, I was under on my calories but not massively so and it was because of increased steps which I always ignored in my calorie tracking because I think my Fitbit overestimates how much I burn.

I sat down this week for the first time and calculated when I might end my MJ journey. Financially it has been possible because I’ve taken on some extra duties at work but this will end in January. I have about 12 pounds to go until my BMI is 25 so I hope I can get there. I’m going to order a 5 pen next but it’s unlikely I’ll go to that, it will be insurance against needing micro increases.

Welcome @HippityHoppityhoo I found peppermint capsules worked well for the sulphur burps. Mine only lasted a few days.

Hoping everyone has a good week. As ever this thread serves as a reminder to all that we are all having varying experiences, ups and downs, highs and lows, and it really helps to see how others are doing and what challenges they face and decisions they make.

doodleschnoodle · 17/11/2024 10:09

Welcome @HippityHoppityhoo ! Peppermint capsules work wonders for sulphur burps and gas in general. It does mean any time you do burp it tastes minty but much nicer than rotten eggs! Sounds like you're making good progress!

I'm 34lbs down but weight loss has slowed a little bit, which I know is to be expected as I get closer to my healthy range but I've still got a way to go, so hoping it will keep on going at an okay rate.

I ended up trying 5 again this week and my body handled it a lot better than last time so think I'll stick on it for time being. I need to order my next pen relatively soon as my supply will run out over the Christmas period so want to make sure I have it before all that starts, as the pharmacy isn't delivering between something like the 23rd and 3rd.

Bought a size 12 coat and it fits, so pleased about that!

@Elephantino sorry it’s not worked out. I also have felt unwell the whole time I’ve been on it. I think this will be my last pen as I am fed up feeling like this.

34lb is amazing! And well done on the coat!

I wore a shirt last night that I haven’t been able to wear in years. I remember thinking the last time I tried it on, if I lost half a stone this would fit. Well, it fits now!

Sorry to hear this, it's rubbish isn't it. I want to come off and see if I start to feel any better. I'm going to see how I go this week on 2.5 then maybe take a week off and check the lay of the land then. My joint pain has flared the last 7 weeks and I'm struggling. Imagine if i stop and the joint pain goes 👏

Bluenose1966 · 17/11/2024 11:34

I have ordered a 5mg for my next pen but am hoping to stay on 2.5mg to reduce side effects.
Was listening to Dr Tyna on MindPump podcast and she said side effects are because of too high of a dose in our bodies and also eating clean can reduce symptoms ie. concentrate on proteins first. She takes a very low dose to help with arthritis and also has her patients on a low dose.
She also said there is research showing that those who exercise are more likely to keep weight off after coming off MJ.

I originally started taking MJ because a lot of the health podcasts I have listened to for years started saying there were significant health benefits in addition to weight loss. I personally feel great on it, feel more clarity and has stopped the arthritis like pain I have in my ankles when I first get up.

HippoPortlyMouse · 17/11/2024 12:01

Bear in mind Dr Tyna is a chiropractic and naturopathic doctor, not a medical doctor. She runs a wellness clinic, not a medical practice.

She seems fairly informed on her subject but she is only using anecdotal evidence for microdosing. GLP-1s haven't been around long enough to have undergone a load of trials for things other than what they're currently available for, there haven't been any micro dosing trials (yet, they may come).

Side effects happen because people are taking an effective dose to manage their weight. It's not as if they just need to take less and they'll be fine and the weight will still come off! Otherwise we'd all be golden on 2.5 for life. Some people are unfortunate and a therapeutic dose for them comes with side effects. Others are lucky and lose weight on lower doses with less.

It's also not new that a healthy diet is good for you, nor that exercise can help keep weight off. I've listened to some of her material and she's good at what she does, but I dislike how she holds herself as a medical authority figure on GLP-1 when she isn't.

85reasons · 17/11/2024 12:36

I agree with that @HippoPortlyMouse re Dr Tyna (although can she call herself a Dr if she's not medically trained?) - I think it's worth being cautious around these influencers who have suddenly had huge surges in the size of their following due to GLP-1s. She is making a lot of money no doubt off this new status as GLP-1 expert in podcast land.

I have been on 2.5 for 8 weeks fine no problems and on Monday I took my first 5 dose. Since then I have felt so unwell with headaches and tiredness. I work in healthcare in a physically active job so I can't continue feeling like this.

Tomorrow I would like to take 3.75 and then later in the week 1.25. Please can I ask - how many clicks is 3.75 and how many clicks is 1.25 in a 5 pen? Many thanks

I don't know about clicks sorry but just wanted to say my first week on 5mg was awful like you describe plus I had a few sickness bouts and a few evil toilet trips, really had me questioning it!
the second week wasn't quite as bad and since then I've been fine. So fine in fact that I'm just ordering a third 5mg pen.

For a 5mg pen, you'd use 15 clicks for 1.25mg, 30 clicks for 2.5mg, 45 clicks for 3.75mg (and 60 clicks for the full 5mg).

A lot of us have done bridging doses between 2.5 and 5. Hope a lower dose helps you too.

Who is looking at moving to 10mg on the next dose? I’ve just done my injection of 7.5mg, no side effects at all yet. 5mg I didn’t lose much at all, 7.5mg was great for the first couple of weeks, but again seems to be less effective on the 3rd week. The food noise in my head in increasing again and I’m very aware of food choices and saying no. It’s not as easy as it has been

I think I will go for 10m next time. I always bear in mind that I could give myself smaller doses if necessary. I have gone up the doses monthly and not really had any side effects. I do think that life has been easier on 7.5. Seems to have lasted the week rather than effectiveness wearing off after 5/6 days.

20bloodypounds · 17/11/2024 13:57

@mononymous Why not try 3.75 for a week, then 4.2 the following week (50 clicks), then back up to 5. For me the challenge with splitting the dose into 2 injections is knowing how to get back to a once a week regime. Just about there now!

HippityHoppityhoo · 17/11/2024 14:12

Thanks for the welcome @Seldomseenkid & @doodleschnoodle - well done on that size 12 coat too- amazing!

As the day has gone on I feel a lot better, symptoms seem to have subsided a bit but being careful with what I eat.

Peppermint capsules have arrived from Amazon just before my 7.5mg pen, so that's super quick delivery only ordered on Friday evening so surprised to see it processed & Royal Mail delivering today. Will give them a go too.

theluckiest · 17/11/2024 14:19

Just a quick q while I think about it - I took the 4th dose of my 5mg pen yesterday.

Any idea how much there is in the bonus dose? Looks like a bit more than a 5mg dose..

(Also, since my whinge about losing nothing in 3 weeks, this morning the scales have shifted by a whopping 0.5 lb!!! 😆
It's going in the right direction I guess, albeit at a snail's pace)

mimosa1 · 17/11/2024 15:14

Hi everyone,

Hope you're having a good weekend.

@theluckiest do you have insulin syringes? If so, a full dose is 0,6ml so if you have a 5mg pen, drawing 0,6ml of liquid should be a 5mg dose. At least that's how understand it. (Not a medic, etc)

Does anyone have any recommendation for collagen that tastes OK? I've bought Perfectil hair but won'trebuy as it tastes like death so will change when it runs out.

My hair thinning is really worrying me though. I am a sloooow loser - half a pound or so per week BUT I'm on a very low dose - 1.825mg or 3/4 of a 2.5mg pen as I seem to be very sensitive to the side effects - but I'd hate to come off MJ as it's done magnificent things for my willpower. I wish I were losing faster so I'd be off MJ sooner iyswim. I'm talking to the clinicians at Voy on Monday and will see what they recommend.
