I need some positive stories. I'm really considering stopping MJ. I'm on week 6 of 2.5mg and suppression has gone completely, I'm so hungry. I've gained 2lbs this week.
But I'm too scared to go up, having read the stories on here. I just don't know if I can do it. I'm so scared of being sick, severe emetophobia.

I did a week of 3.75 after 5 weeks of 2.5mg and it was all fine. Then went up to 5mg which was also fine.
I'm now on 7.5 and had no episodes of sickness, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation.
As the pp said, people don't post if they're getting on fine with no side effects so you're just seeing the few who have had issues.

If you're using a 2.5mg pen you could do a full dose, change needle then twist 30 clicks to do another half dose to get 3.75 as a step up maybe.
Or don't wait the full week, and do another 2.5 after 5 or 6 days instead.
It does sound like you may need to move up a dose though.

alwaysscared · 16/10/2024 17:49

Thanks everyone. I just need to bite the bullet and do 3.75mg. I don't think doing the extra 2.5mg half way through the week will work as I don't get any suppression at all now, even the first couple of days

gimmemounjaro · 16/10/2024 18:18

I would try 3mg first, no need to go straight to the halfway point if you're worried. 36 clicks of a 5mg pen.

Darlinghag · 16/10/2024 18:43

I second going for 3.75mg!

Someone in work I hadn’t seen in about 3 weeks noticed my weightloss! I feel like even though its just a few pounds lost since then, I have physically changed loads - like its all of a sudden showing on me. I didn’t really know what to say tho, just changed the subject, very much not comfortable with it!

also, has anyone noticed that Mj has changed how their body reacts to caffeine and dehydration? Pre MJ i would be ok,but now ai get such bad headaches if i drink too much caffeine and not enough water!!

alltablenochairs · 16/10/2024 22:14

@RMNofTikTok I love my wheelchair. She's (yes, I did name it) given me the freedom and independence back at a time when I had very little of either.

Has anyone found that their tastes have completely changed since MJ? Anything remotely sweet just doesn't appeal to me any more. To the extent that my breakfast is usually a plate of leftovers from the night before.

Darkfloods · 17/10/2024 08:54

@alltablenochairs i have noticed a change in tastes. Mine is more I loved curries but at the moment I just want bland food like plain(ish) chicken and rice.

Before taking it, I had switched to decaf, might be worth a try?

Darlinghag · 17/10/2024 11:42

I’m considering it @Orangesandlemons77! its fine at home, ive got a routine and drink plenty of water/squash and dont overdrink caffeine, but think maybe when out and about and less able to be mindful i should probably try the switch.

don’t know if i will manage switching to caffeine free doet coke tho haha

Newbie to Mumsnet here, I've lost three stone & have five-ish to go! Started on Wegovy in January & got to maximum dose by June, but weight loss was too slow for me (I lost 15lb in nearly six months).
I realised Mounjaro was cheaper (at the time) allegedly more effective for those like me who were assessed as 'morbidly obese' & by then it became easier to source in the UK, so I decided to swap. We were going on holiday, so I had a two week break (as advised) & started on the lowest dose of Mounjaro the first week of July. I've since lost another 25lb & I'm not up to maximum dose yet (on my first week of 12.5mg).
I am post menopausal & in my late 50's, so I am aware I will probably take at least 18 months to get to target weight. I'm happy with an average 1-2lb a week loss, as my skin is not getting too saggy (so far) & I'm at less risk of gall stones (family history).
I started couch to 5K in January too & I am now managing to slow jog 7k, three times a week & cycling 20k a week. I am looking to start resistance/weight training in November (another holiday end of October pending). I'm hoping this thread will give me support; as when you have so much to loose it is a hard slog! I don't mind sharing my experience too; if it can help.
Start Weight: 120kg (18.8 stone). 😟
Goal weight: 70kg (11 stone) . 😀

Hi, interested to hear about the Wegovy as I was considering changing to it as may be offered it via the NHS. But I'm paying for mounjaro atm and seem to be getting on pretty well with it. Did it have more side effects as well as less weight loss? Thanks. And welcome.

Yes I have noticed this too with my sweet tooth.

Re the Wegovy, the only side effect I suffered from was constipation at the higher doses, this was helped by senease tablets (which I still take daily).
Mounjaro causes me constipation too: if I don't keep up the tablets, have enough roughage & drink enough H20. I've now started having nausea after eating, which lasts an hour or two. (Quite happy to put up with that, if I can get to an average size). I have gone off anything too sweet/sickly (biscuits, cake, chocolate, sweets etc) which I'm pleased with & my 'food noise' is minimal.
The one thing I miss re the Wegovy is it helped me with cutting down on alcohol (which imo had got out of hand during the Covid crisis). I started craving again after swapping & I have really had to use my will-power to not up my consumption. However I have noticed the last month I am having terrible hang-overs after a couple of gins or glasses of wine, so hopefully Mounjaro will eventually put me off booze too. 🙏

@GoddessCrone Welcome to the thread. Apologies if this is oversteps the mark but having seen a family member deal with the long-term effects, are you taking daily senease under medical supervision?

Can't edit I've noticed after five minutes or so. I'll clarify when I have problems I take senna daily. Yes thanks I did discuss it with the medical advisor who prescribes my WLI's. 😎

Hey everyone

I've also posted this on late September starters but would be really good to get some experiences of others please.

I haven't been on here for a while but am now at the end of week 3 of MJ and taking my last 2.5 dose tomorrow.

Just feeling a bit down and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same...

Started off week 1 with really good suppression, had a good loss that week 7lb. However since then the doses haven't had quite the same effect in terms of suppression & making healthy choices easier & I've lost around 1lb over the last couple of weeks.

I'm due to go up to 5mg at the end of next week and haven't really had any side effects so that's good but it's also made me feel a bit sad- I've got a lot to loose - I know the 2.5 is an initial dose so wondering how this might change when I step up.

Is there anyone who 2.5mg had minimal effects but things improved when they moved up to 5mg?

Thank you

Fuffedoff · 17/10/2024 17:34

Can anyone please recommend something for sulphur burps?

I'm feeling hanging.

I've already taken some peppermint capsules

I'm finding more suppression and less hunger on 5mg, and also oddly less side effects. I felt a bit nauseous when I first started but that seems to have improved.

gimmemounjaro · 17/10/2024 17:46

Me 🙋‍♀️

I lost 4.4lbs in 4 weeks on 2.5mg.

I lost more than that in 4 days on 5mg. Ended up losing 12.8lbs in 4 weeks on 5mg.

It's so disheartening when other people are losing loads and you've hardly started, but keep going!

Hey MJers.

Question about expiry dates. I've been buying my next pens when I've been getting reminders rather than when strictly due, so currently have had 2 unopened pens in the fridge for a couple of months. 1 has an expiry of Jan so all good, the other I just noticed is October. I'll take the first dose on Saturday and then dose 2 will still be in October but the rest of the pen will fall into November.

This'll be ok won't it? It's not like it's suddenly going to stop being safe on 31st October?

Fast. As close as you can to a total fast, water only. If you have other gastric symptoms don’t take any Imodium or similar. The sulphur burps are a result of the food which has spent longer than usual in your digestive system and they will go away once it has passed through you. Hope you feel better soon.

There is a batch of 2.5mg pens that have had the date extended to Feb 2025, would it be one of those perhaps? If so it should have had a note with it. I'm not sure otherwise sorry.

UserNameOfShame · 17/10/2024 18:41

It's a 15mg so I don't think so.

HippityHoppityhoo · 17/10/2024 19:25

@Orangesandlemons77 & @gimmemounjaro thanks so much for your replies- def gives me a bit more hope. I'm not at the point of wanting to quit at all- I've still lost weight that I don't think would have been possible otherwise so all is not lost (pardon the pun) and I know we are all so different but it's nice to know I'm not alone Flowers
