Saturday weigh in and scales showed 17st 13.9lbs this morning - but logging in at 18st and will (hopefully) take moving into the 17st bracket next week!

End of week - 16 (5 x 2.5mg, 11 x 3.75mg)
SW - 21st 5lbs BMI 42.8
CW - 18st 0lbs BMI 36.1
Losses - 10,2,2,4,1,3,3,3,1,3,2,2,3,3,2,3
Total loss - 3st 5lbs (47lbs), 15%
Current Target - 17st by Christmas🎄 (10 weeks, 14lbs to go!)

Lots of newbies this week! Welcome and wishing you all success on your weight loss journeys to better health!

I am prescribed Omeprazole for acid reflux for 7-8 years. I don't like being on it and have tried to cut back many times before, but if I even skipped for one day the acid burn, cough at the back of my throat and pain between shoulder blades would quickly return. Even on previous diets when I was down to 15st I still couldn't do without it. Took my last tablet on Sunday and I had a couple of rennies one day but otherwise I haven't needed it at all! 😁 I will be so happy if I can keep off them now.

I also listened to a session about MJ and Menopause and now considering HRT. I am 56 in a few weeks and they said in the session it is not too late to think about it, I am not sure if it is a good idea or not I'll need to try to get an appointment and discuss with the Dr, but MJ is making me want to get out of this slump I feel I have been in for a few years and get just a little bit of the "old me" back. I think I need some help with the insomnia, exhaustion, brain fog, confidence and low mood.

@doobi how did you get on with challenging Curate with the warm pen?

I have been reading all your successes over the last week and you are all nailing it! 💪

Hi can I join please? Took first injection today (Mounjaro) with starting weight of 17st 10lbs. I am a classic yoyo dieter losing and gaining 4 stone almost annually. Hoping the cake cravings and other food noise will be a thing of the past. When I have been stressed in the past and I lose my appetite my weight has dropped off. I am old too and I'd like to get to 70 in a size 12 dress.

Evenstar · 12/10/2024 23:37

Can I ask how soon any of you noticed an improvement with stiffness and pain, which I notice some people have reported? I only took my first jab yesterday, but woke up this morning feeling a lot less stiff and have been out to a concert this evening and sat on a fairly hard chair without being really uncomfortable.

Hi @Evenstar, I’ve noticed a big reduction in aches and pains - I’m not sure how soon it started, but it’s been sustained over two months now. It looks like there have been a few studies of the anti-inflammatory effects of GLP-1 agonists - how lucky we are to get another health benefit!

Loveachoc · 13/10/2024 05:04

Hi can I join? Have been reading about your losses and it is amazing and keeps motivating me to carry on. I don't know how I got to a weight of 108 kg post baby. Baby boy was born late April and I finally got the courage to step on scales in GP surgery early July. Needless to say it was depressing! I had been thinking that I was in the 90 kg range. Decided to try intermittent fasting and lost 8kg with that but then lost motivation. Started MJ in 10th of Sept and it's been up and down.
Sw 99kg(218lb)
CW 93.95kg(207lb)
Short term GW 90KG
I'm not even thinking about final goal yet!
I just want to lose the weight but am worried about the flabby skin like others have said. Threads like these keep me going.

Darlinghag · 13/10/2024 13:55

Morning all! I lost .6 of a pound overnight, making my loss over 8 days 2.2lbs!

jab day tonight and I am HUNGRY. Its definitely wearing off a little but i will keep 5mg a little longer.

some sort of non scale victories - i ordered some new tops because i’ve got a shortage now i’ve lost some weight, but it appears i’ve lost it entirely off my top half!

i’ve been a 22 for a while - usually at the top end of that, so i ordered 20-22s and they are all massive!! Its good but also frustrating as i now need to figure out what kind of style suits me at this shape!

Fuffedoff · 13/10/2024 17:37

Has anyone else found their weight loss stalled/slowed down on 5mg, then once they went up to 7.5mg, things started moving then?

alwaysscared · 13/10/2024 18:33

Can I join? I started on 6th September and am 20lbs down so far.
I'm still on 2.5mg, my doctor wanted me to stay on that dose for another month.
I have a lot to lose

Starting weight - 258.5lbs
Current weight - 238.5lbs
Goal weight - anything under 13 stone, so a long way to go!

I'm so worried about going up a dose. I'm thinking of doing 3.75mg from my 5mg pen when I get it. But I'm reading that people have had bad side effects even on that dose. On 2.5mg I have had nausea and constipation (except for the last few days, really bad stomach after my 6th 2.5mg dose)
I am a huge emetophobic so it took a lot for me to even start taking it, but I know I have to go up as the suppression isn't great. I'm having to use a lot of willpower!!

I try to disconnect the weight loss from the dose.

dose -> suppression to reduce calorie in take -> weight loss

If the dose is suppressing enough to keep me in my weekly calorie deficit then going up is not going to do much for my weight, I am maybe just in a natural plateau and it will move in its own time and not worth the risk of additional side effects. Maybe recheck your TDEE and what your calorie deficit should be.

If I am struggling to keep within my calorie deficit and snacking is starting to creep back in then I would consider going up.

Darlinghag · 13/10/2024 19:01

I also second rechecking TDEE!

I don’t change mine until I think things are slowing down, but after my losses recently, reassessed and calculated and it was about 100 calories lower!

I have mine calculating on my weekly spreadsheet and it has gone down by 256 calories 😲 a day since I started! I need to/am trying to move more (from sedentary to lightly active) to compensate for it!

alwaysscared · 13/10/2024 19:37

Anyone have a reliable website to calculate TDEE
The one I looked at said I need to eat 2400 cals?! That's not right, surely!

It doesn't mean you need to eat that. It's what your body uses to stay working. However, when you're overweight your body will just burn your reserves instead if you're below this. That's a good thing as it's burning your excess weight.

NearlyNewHip · 13/10/2024 19:44

Hi All,
Had my first injection MJ injection Friday night, definitely feel something, no snacks all weekend!!!! I have about 5 stone to lose (lost 3 stone on Slimming World but put a stone back on because I was sooooo hungry allllll the time).
I'm 47 and using HRT and will be having a hip replacement in the next 12 months. Consultant asked me to lose some weight before the operation.
SW 103.9kg
GW 72.5kg (will at 1.71m give me a -just- normal BMI and make the surgeon happy)

alwaysscared · 13/10/2024 19:45

That's weird because I have the TrackFit scales and they said my body burns 1460 a day. I don't get it, I'm confused!!

That sounds very low unless your very short and not too overweight.

Darlinghag · 13/10/2024 19:49

i think your maintenance calories minus 500 is considered a decent deficit, although anything under your maintenance is a deficit and the more you lose, you might shorten your deficit gap to ensure you eat enough.

i use tdeecalculator.net and my maintenance is 2113 calories a day, so i just subtract between 300-500, depending on my hunger and plans that day! I also have the odd day where i hit maintenance too!

alwaysscared · 13/10/2024 20:01

@Midlifecrisisxamillion I'm 5ft 7 and have about 4 more stone to lose! Definitely very overweight!!

You need to burn 3500 excess calories to lose a pound of fat, so a daily deficit of 500kcal will equate to a 1lb loss per week.

I think the calories you are supposed to eat to lose weight is your TDEE - 500.
My TDEE was 2078, which means I should not eat more than 1578 to lose weight.

Edit: sorry just seen lots of people have already said the same!!

LucyBnotG · 13/10/2024 23:03

Hello! I'm not sure if I've asked to join in with this thread as I'm watching a few others too. If not, hi! I have been on mj since the end of July and have lost 30lb as of yesterday which feels like a massive achievement.

@WeAllHaveWings I have 17st as my goal for the end of the year too! I have 21lb until I get there though so I think I may be pushing that goal into January.

Good luck with your goal and well done with the 17 on the scales!

@alwaysscared Is one of your numbers a TDEE taking your daily activity level into account and the other a BMR which just focuses on calories burned to keep your body alive before getting out of bed? That might explain the vast difference.

alwaysscared · 13/10/2024 23:14

@LucyBnotG ah, yes I think that's what it is. Thanks for the clarity, bloody confusing!

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/10/2024 10:05

I'm plateauing - showing one pound gain.

I've lost 12 kilos and have been fluctuating around 111kg/112kg for a few weeks now.
Coming to the end of my 2nd 5mg pen - I was hoping to stay on 5mg for another month but my supression is so low now. I am still making good food choices but quantity has increased.

I'l going to calorie count/log meals this week & hope to get things moving again

NewbieMJ · 14/10/2024 10:33

Morning all. My 6 week weigh-in and 3 pounds down this week, making a total of 18 pounds! Delighted with that.

SW: 18 stone 11 (263 lbs)
CW: 17 stone 7 (245 lbs)

[Losses 5, 0, 6, 3, 1, 3]

I am doing keto, eating twice a day. I haven't felt the suppression yet (on 5mg, but didn't on 2.5 mg either), and I am feeling hungry at meal times and able to eat decent sized portions. What I definitely would say is it is ridiculously easy - I am completely in the zone and eating nutritiously dense meals. (I don't calorie count - I eat what I want so long as it is relatively high fat, moderate protein and very low carb). I think a huge motivating factor for me is the regular weight loss. It keeps me in the zone (previously, while low carb, etc works to a point, I am so insulin resistant, and my body was determined to hold onto all it's fat, thank you very much, the weight loss was so painfully slow, it demotivated me and I definitely gave up thinking what is the point? I'll take forever, etc. BMI calculators and lectures and judgements made me feel so daunted by the amount I had to lose. I actually loathe the very word obese.

So for me, MJ has given me the edge I needed to help me stick to a healthy way of eating (which suits me and I feel mentally and emotionally very good as a result). I've lost mainly belly fat (hoorah) and under my boobs fat - that layer of fat is shrinking. I can bend down more easily - it was getting to the stage that even getting socks on was a chore.

I love this thread and check the updates daily. It is so inspiring to hear of others with a lot to lose and getting fantastic results. I also like the intelligent chat - no judgements but observations, and celebrating each others success, knowing we all have so much in common with our weight issues over the years. The conversations about the dieting industry really resonated with me too.

Thank you very much everyone. Wishing you all a good week.

Have any of you had any problems with gallstones or advice on preventing them ? I'm a bit scared about getting them.

I've read sticking to around 1-2lbs a week weight loss and eating regularly can help, is this right? There is something people can get prescribed to prevent them after weight loss surgery and I wondered about that, urosiol, something like that
