Is everyone else calorie counting? I’ve decided not to and just be dictated by my appetite, it’s working for the moment but I suppose it’s still early days for me.

I feel like there's not much point in doing it if you're not calorie counting to be honest

RMNofTikTok · 11/10/2024 18:24

@itwasnevermine it depends on how strongly your appetite is suppressed. I have to count some days to ensure I actually eat something.

Foods can be quietly high calorie, it's important to make sure you're getting the right macros as well

SilenceInside · 11/10/2024 18:30

@itwasnevermine I've done 14 weeks without calorie counting and have lost 60lbs as of today. I'm not sure what calorie counting would add to the process, and as i mentioned, it runs the risk of developing into unhealthy mental processes for me too.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 11/10/2024 18:31

@doodlydooo I am not sure which bmi calculator you looked at but the main nhs one has a height of 5ft 3 and a weight of 9st 7lbs at a bmi of 23.6 which is a lovely healthy weight

Thanks @SilenceInside ! Everyone's weightloss stories here on Mounjaro are very encouraging!

I am hoping to take my injection tonight. My biggest worry is that I am not active enough and it might result in loose skin.

Also, I am putting off the first injection because I'm worried I won't get the "eating" part right ie. I feel so overwhelmed with what is the right thing to eat. I don't want to completely cut out carbs like rice and potatoes as I feel like they should be a part of a healthy lifestyle - but maybe I'm wrong?

Also, I noticed most people are including stats.
SW: 16st 8lb (105kg)
CW: 16st 8lb
GW: 8st 8lb (55kg)

I was initially aiming for 65kg, but when I plugged that in to a BMI calculator it said it was overweight for my height. So a healthy BMI for me at 5ft 3in is at 8st 8lb.

With regards as to knowing what you should eat, for me MJ somehow just makes me know what's right and makes me want to eat the right food.
I now love clean, fresh food instinctively, so don't overthink it, I'm sure you'll work it out just fine.
Good luck with your first jab. You'll feel much happier once the first one is done.

SW 18st 6lbs
CW 14st 11lbs
GW - who knows, I'll see where this journey takes me.

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 11/10/2024 18:34

@doodlydooo thanks! And yes, a little bit I suppose. Mainly the tops of my thighs, tops of my arms and my neck - but not too bad. I've slightly cheated with a tummy tuck back in 2020 so that was one area of panties to worry about, loose skin wise.

Timetofindme · 11/10/2024 18:46

I started MJ 28th August (and have missed a 2.5 dose cos of holiday - active holiday exercising daily and didn't want to feel rough).

I'm so shocked, still, at how much my cravings have disappeared.

Haven't really set mini targets yet, just doing one day at a time. But hit my first stone lost today!

SW: 235 lbs
CW: 220.4 lbs!

My partner does know I'm on MJ but only told him a couple of weeks after I started. Trying not to talk about it too much though as I don't want to become consumed by it in the way I have with diets previously.

Many more pounds to lose but I'm so happy!

Sort of. I find calorie counting can get me into really poor habits around food. So I don't want to log every single thing that I'm eating. I am, to an extent, calorie counting. I started initially as the suppression was so high I was struggling to eat anything.

Now I'm tending to log my breakfast and lunch, and then eat without tracking in the evening. It's been really useful as I've realised how ridiculous my breakfast portions were and have adjusted them. And truthfully I'm getting a lot of suppression so I'm naturally eating smaller evening meals. Last night I had spag bol, and did about half the amount of pasta I'd usually eat, and still left some at the end cos I was too full to finish it. I'm also aware, from previous calorie counting, of rough calorie amounts anyway so I keep an eye on it without fully tracking it.

RMNofTikTok · 11/10/2024 19:09

@itwasnevermine I do have dietetic support as I'm one of a very small number of people that has wegovy prescribed by the NHS. As I keep saying, their concern is that I am eating too little. The dietician is helping me find ways of eating more on wegovy, not less. So counting calories for me is only necessary when I'm struggling to take anything in to ensure I hit at least 800 calories. I tracked my calorie intake recently for a fortnight and I average 1000 calories a day.

Thank you for sharing. I am nearly 17 stones and so I am anticipating quite a bit of loose skin.

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 11/10/2024 20:51

@doodlydooo just spotted my 'panties' typo. Ewww. No idea what I was meaning to say! 😀

You'll honestly be there before you know it. My top tips would be to get to the end of a month and only then count up your losses over 30 (or 31) days. I've had weeks where I didn't lose but at the end of each month, looking back, I'd always lost a minimum of 7-9 lbs without fail

Also don't focus on the possibility of loose skin. It can be a form of self sabotage and it'll either happen or it won't and you can't really do much about it - only other option is remaining overweight so better to focus on decent nutrition and you may be surprised. What weight are you aiming for?

Darlinghag · 11/10/2024 21:53

Not counting calories doesn’t work for me.

And i would argue if you are not familar with doing so, you probably should on MJ! You’d be so surprised how much is in some things.

i don’t get het up about tracking real low cal things like garlic, sugar free coffee syrup or diet coke but i do track pretty much everything else.

olive oil was my biggest misjudge! Getting a spray bottle and weighing it was the best thing i ever did!

also things like tracking macros, especially fibre and protein!

im now very good at estimating most things so i dont stress about it if im out of the house, but i think its good practice doing it at home, so i remain in control of what is normal for life post weight loss too!

NigellaAwesome · 11/10/2024 22:16

Hello all, would you mind if I joined the thread? It is really good reading everyone's success stories. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, but I have been on wegovey, then mounjaro for the last 18 months. I am currently on the 12.5mg pen.

I started at 104kg and I lost 8kg within the first few months, and nothing since then. I'm still at 96kg - ideally I would like to get to 80kg.

I can't really exercise much due to bad knees, although I also struggle just to carve time out of the day and prioritise it.

I eat very little - portions are usually about a half of what I normally would have eaten and for the first 6 months I didn't have any alcohol at all. I love hearing of others' losses, but just can't seem to get moving myself.

Thank you for the lovely reply and advice. I was initially aiming for 9.5-10stones. But then I thought the BMI for that was overweight when I checked and so then I decided I was aiming for 8.5stones. Either way, I'll be happy if I get to 10stones!

Also, I just took my very first dose. I am so very desperately hopeful for this to work 🤞

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 12/10/2024 02:17

Can I join you guys.
I did my first Mounjaro injection on Weds this week.
Starting weight 15 stone 1.5lbs
First goal weight 11 stone
End goal weight 8 stone 4 (I'm short) but I'd be very happy with 9 stone.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 12/10/2024 08:11

Hey, just found the new thread.
Doing my injection this evening, and just weighed in.

SW: 263.6 lbs
CW: 210.6 lbs
Total lost 53 lbs

I think I lost 3.2lbs this week. I'm staying on 10mg while it works. I've been split dosing to manage the nausea and tiredness but I might try the full 10mg today and see how I go.

Re: loose skin... I thought I was starting to see some loose skin about a stone ago, but it seems to have disappeared/firmed up again? I haven't been in the gym (I really need to improve my exercise). I'm in my 40s. Honestly my bingo wings were flapping in the wind in August, but now they're back to just pudgy arms again.

PrairieDawn101 · 12/10/2024 08:42

Jumping in to see if I can join you all? I have just started Saxenda (the only available injection in my country). I am at 129kg and ideally would love to be at 69kg 😳
My first big goal is to get below the 100kg mark, but just getting below 120 at this point would be a win. Would love to hear if anyone has used Saxenda with success?

TwoHoots74 · 12/10/2024 09:06

Can I join please?

I've been on munjaro since May and have lost 2 stone 4lbs. I'm on 10mg but about to revive 12.5mg. It's so slow for me compared to other people's losses.

I know you shouldn't compare but it's hard not too. On the plus side I can see my body changing shape now more than the weight loss on the scales. I stupidly forgot or was in denial about taking measurements

Darksideoftheprune · 12/10/2024 10:20

I'd love to join you all too if you'll have me!

My first pen of Mounjaro is arriving this morning but I have a birthday bottle of sancerre to polish off tonight before I can start, had half a glass last night and I fell asleep! I turned 38 this week and I've decided my birthday gift to myself is liquid pens with a pointy end, I need to get rid of this weight before it gets rid of me.

I'm 5ft 9 with a start weight of 22st 7lbs so I have a long way to go. I've never really understood why I loved eating so much, I love big portions and eat when happy or sad. I love healthy food and all the other stuff too. It's only in the last year or so of getting my daughter diagnosed as autistic with adhd I've realised it's most likely I have inattemtive adhd and it might be the reason I enjoy eating so much junk that i'm constantly chasing dopamine.

I tried saxenda briefly nearly 3 years ago but the sulphur burps were terrible and then my dad died out of the blue so I didn't carry on. Hoping to avoid the sulphur burps with MJ.

Peppermint oil capsules from Holland and Barrett are your friend here. Just don't do what I did which was bite into one. They're breathtakingly strong

Hi
My loss is slow too and sometimes it does get me down but I just need to get on with it and not dwell on the speed. Sometimes I look on TikTok and see people with their massive losses and wonder how they have managed it. Does the 74 refer to your birth year? I'm 57 and think that's the main reason for the lack of speedy progress. Well done on your loss so far.

Fuffedoff · 12/10/2024 10:59

Hey,

What peppermint oil capsules do people take for sulphur burps? And how much/how often and are they effective?

Thanks

:)

Darlinghag · 12/10/2024 11:02

Hi all!

another saturday weigh in for me, and its a 1.6lb loss.

i’ve got a bonus dose left in my 5mg pen so i will take that tomorrow. I’m away for work again next so don’t want to risk side effects of a higher dose.

i bought a 7.5mg for next pen, and am still umming and ahhing about what dose to do next. I think i might use a little of the bonjs dose each time to jump to 6-6.25. Or maybe just do 5mg and then see how we go!

who knows!

i always feel my loss is slow but i’m averaging 1.5lbs a week - and that is exactly what i wanted for me to be able to sustain my losses. It also feels like a personal achievement for me in that i have not ‘thrown the towel’ in even once! I’ve had a handful of days where i haven’t tracked my entire day due to meals out, but i haven’t overeaten or made awful choices. This feels so good!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 12/10/2024 11:24

@FIFIBEBE I’m 57 too and sorry but I have to say my progress has been almost scarily fast 😬
