@MoreThanJustANumber that is a horrendous message! I never went back to a slimming club after the time when a Weight Watchers leader told me off for exercising because I was building muscle and it was showing as a gain on the scale. They are awful, toxic places.

There is a really important point here - there is a poster on another board who is disappointed not to be losing on MJ, and who is clearly still eating like she is on Slimming World. The SW / WW approach of high-volume eating has never worked for me and the only time that I lost significant weight before MJ was through low-carbing. I think this did help me to adjust to MJ more quickly as I didn't have to undo a SW high-volume mindset.

You're right, low carb was the only way I could lose weight after I ditched the clubs, but I did find it unsustainable for more than a couple of months. I do notice that I hold on to weight when I eat processed carbs like pasta and bread so I limit the amount of times when I have those, but I do really miss bread if I never have it and the deprivation just drove me to binge when I couldn't stand the cravings anymore.

When I first went to Slimming World in the early 80s, noodles were 'free food'. I stuck exactly to the plan and didn't lose any weight! I guess eight packets of instant noodles a day will do that! 😂All slimming clubs should come with a health warning!

MounjaroHereICome · 11/10/2024 10:25

Hello all, hope I can join? I had exactly 30kg to lose. Started on the 19th of sept.

Lost a total of 5kg. So 25kg left to lose.

I'm on my 4th jab now.

Darkfloods · 11/10/2024 10:46

Low carbing gave me some great results the first couple of times I did it. The last couple of times I tried the loss seemed minimal, found it so hard to keep motivated too.

SW - (7/09) 130.7kgs
CW - 122.8kgs
GW - ??

I’m really pleased with how this is going. My second pen is being delivered today, I decided to move up to 5mg but I’m going to try to get the bonus dose from my old pen and then start the new one next week.

Crouton19 · 11/10/2024 11:08

Placemarking! Currently on holiday so no weigh in for a while but I had just got under 12 stone before I left (from a SW of around 14st10). I know I have not eaten much on this holiday (compared to previous years), still feeling full very quickly, but not all meal choices have been good ones. A pair of shorts has definitely got tighter but it's also TOTM in a couple of days so that might explain it.

Hello to new joiners!

Darlinghag · 11/10/2024 11:43

Interesting reading the discussions around slimming clubs and also volume of food.

slimming world 20 years ago was wild!! I used to eat tonnes of pasta because it was ‘free’!!!

i don’t necessarily disagree with volume eating per se, but ultimately its just calories in/out isnt it? I can’t believe SW and WW still operate without calories as a focus, just madness.

i don’t even have pasta in my house anymore 😂😂 completely unappealling on MJ, like its too heavy? I have soba noodles once in a while but otherwise potatoes are my current carb choice!

Orangesandlemons77 · 11/10/2024 13:28

Surely all that pasta etc would just spike your blood sugar? Or did they not think about that back then, it was maybe all low fat etc?

Just taken my first 5mg jab and feeling OK. In fact I find before the jab I start feeling a bit weird and jittery, but then better after! Wonder what that's about. Anyone else feel better after the jab than before, in general?

Slimming world is a scam. No food is "free", it all has calories.

Describing food as a "sin" too is awful.

Afternoon all

4th 2.5ml dose today and my 3rd weigh in

20lbs gone of 12 stone I want to lose.

feels like a good start on the huge hill.

SilenceInside · 11/10/2024 14:50

That's a fantastic start @Thehop.

Hello to @MounjaroHereICome , @Splendud , @doodlydooo, @EmeraldDreams73 and anyone else new who's posted on this thread that I might have missed.

inneedofaglowup · 11/10/2024 15:16

Hi All! I've just started today at 2.5mg. Starting at 88kg and my goal is to hit 58kg. I am 5'3. I am really hoping to have lost 10kg by the 11th December. Anyone have similar experiences to shed some light on what they did to assist getting to their goal weight?

doodlydooo · 11/10/2024 16:12

Thanks @SilenceInside ! Everyone's weightloss stories here on Mounjaro are very encouraging!

I am hoping to take my injection tonight. My biggest worry is that I am not active enough and it might result in loose skin.

Also, I am putting off the first injection because I'm worried I won't get the "eating" part right ie. I feel so overwhelmed with what is the right thing to eat. I don't want to completely cut out carbs like rice and potatoes as I feel like they should be a part of a healthy lifestyle - but maybe I'm wrong?

Also, I noticed most people are including stats.
SW: 16st 8lb (105kg)
CW: 16st 8lb
GW: 8st 8lb (55kg)

I was initially aiming for 65kg, but when I plugged that in to a BMI calculator it said it was overweight for my height. So a healthy BMI for me at 5ft 3in is at 8st 8lb.

Orangesandlemons77 · 11/10/2024 16:30

I'm also 5ft 3, and find in the past around 9.5 stone is my ideal weight, anything under that I felt a bit thin.

Just took my first 5mg dose, feeling fine. Not that hungry though.

SilenceInside · 11/10/2024 16:34

@doodlydooo I think loose skin is partly due to genetics, age and ethnicity and also affected by how quickly you lose weight. I don't think that exercising or not is going to make much difference. Exercise that helps to build muscle can help with overall appearance as it can replace some of the bulk that was lost. Some people take collagen supplements to try to help with it too.

With the eating, you may find that your preferences change, which is what happened for me. I'm eating lower carb and higher protein without really meaning to, as that's what I prefer to have at the moment. I wouldn't worry about the specifics, just try to concentrate on having a bit less of the carbs, and increase the protein and veg content.

Oh yes, that's the same as me really. I think I was maybe 14 years old when I last weighed 8st and so I was aiming for at goal weight of 9.5st with MJ. And then was surprised to see it put me in an overweight BMI category

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 11/10/2024 16:36

Hello all. Just checking in as I'm getting closer to my target now which I admit has been a somewhat moving target

I started at just under 15 stone and I'm quite short so this is a lot for me and initially needed to lose between 5 and 6 stone

As of today, I've lost 5 stone 3 lbs and am 9 stone 9 lbs so perhaps another 4 lbs to go unless I tweak it again which I don't think I will tbh

I've found it fairly straightforward tbh - never had real food suppression and have always eaten 1400 calories a day. I've done the majority of it on 2.5mg a week

Been on it since April

Thank you, that's very helpful. I think I'm just overthinking it with the food really. I should just bite the bullet and start.

I am feeling a bit sad about the possibility of loose skin. Especially because I feel it is all so self inflicted. It's my upper arms. Only 4 years ago they were very slim and I went down such a horrible spiral of overeating they are so flappy (probably a size 20 in clothes) I have no idea if they will ever resolve.

I will research collagen supplements, thank you x

Wow! 🤩🤩 That's so amazing, well done you!!

Do you mind me asking if you had any loose skin following the weight loss and also whether you did much exercise to support the weight loss?

That really is such a brilliant achievement!

Is everyone else calorie counting? I’ve decided not to and just be dictated by my appetite, it’s working for the moment but I suppose it’s still early days for me.

SilenceInside · 11/10/2024 17:04

I'm not calorie counting, although I did for a few days recently just to check that I wasn't under-eating due to the levels of suppression I was feeling.

If I calorie count all the time, it leads to an unhealthy mindset for me and one that I have spent around 30 years wrestling with leading to the whole weight gain/weight loss cycle. One of the effects of taking Mounjaro I really enjoy is being able to stop eating when full, rather than feeling like I am restricting myself based on a calorie total.

RMNofTikTok · 11/10/2024 18:12

For some reason this wegovy is kicking my bum this week!

I injected on tuesday.

Today i ordered a curry (I'm constipated!!!!)

Divided the rice and curry into 2 portions.

I've only managed 1/3 of the plate, eg, 1/6 of the portion.

And nhs were concerned about the effects wearing off..... pffttt!

Yes but only on days when I'm struggling to eat to ensure I eat 1000 calories.
