Mounjaro October starters

Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

It's really and truly incredibly simple.

The pen is all assembled, you just take the cap off,

The needle tips have a paper seal over the screw on bit which you remove and then you screw it onto the pen.

You take off the lid off the needle tip, often there's another cover that you just pull off.

Then you twist the knob on the end of the pen to the first little line and press it in. This is called priming the pen. You might need to do it a couple of times the first time you use the pen. You're looking for a drop of fluid on the needle tips.

Then you twist the knob and just keep on twisting for ages till you hit the number 1.

It's ready to go. Pick your spot, I use belly because it's all flab so plenty of subcutaneous fat to inject into.

Decisively but not hard just press the needle in then push the knob on the end of the pen and keep pushing till it's back to 0, it takes a bit longer than you'd expect and it's a good idea to make sure the little window with the number is facing up so you can see it before you inject. Once you hit hold it still till the count of 10 then remove it.

It is a teeny tiny super thin needle and you barely feel it. Honestly i'm not being macho or shining you on, it's almost surprisingly painless.

Oh thankyou so much ,that does sound straight forward,.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 09/10/2024 19:28

Just for balance- I have had virtually no side effects but good suppression pretty instantly. I do have the tiniest bit of nausea but I often feel shit because I've been eating rubbish anyway and it's less than that.

Good luck to everybody starting on their Journeys!

I started Mounjaro on 9th of September with a starting weight of 17 Stone 10 🙈

In 4 weeks I have lost 1 stone 7lb ☺️

Omg! That's amazing! That's my starting weight too - pen arrives tomorrow. I can only dream of such awesome results! How have you found it?

xLollytee · 09/10/2024 19:42

I've been lucky & ive had no side effects. I've found food noise has completely vanished to the point I can make better choices. I make sure I eat plenty protein, drink atleast 2 litres of water daily & 10k steps minimum. I find injecting in my thigh works better for me than my belly 🤷‍♀️

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 09/10/2024 19:47

I have just given myself my first Mounjaro injection. I was a bit wobbly about it but I'm glad I've gone for it. I used a bit of numbing cream to make it a bit more pain free.

Starting weight 15 stone 1.5lbs.
First goal weight 11 stone
True goal weight 8 stone 4 lbs.

So much weight to lose as I'm short.

I picked it up from Asda tonight and the woman was awful. She smirked and snapped and gave it to me in a clear bag for everyone to see. I wasn't happy and was embarrassed.
At first she said she didn't even think it was in but I'd driven for 50 minutes in horrific rain so was pretty firm.

My journey starts here. I'm not telling anyone about it so I feel a bit alone but I just can't bare the worry and judgement from anyone I know.

Hello and welcome to everyone who has joined. It is so nice to build a little community. I don't know if this is against MN rules but I have set up a little FB group (completely private) mainly to post pictures and keep track. If anyone wants to join, PM me.

What does everyone take in for lunch at work? I make scrambled eggs when I'm home but work lunch is always a big sticking point for me. Any suggestions would be great fully received.

In terms of my first week. As of this morning I'm 8lbs down. My next injection is tomorrow. I've found my food suppression has grown not reduced over the week and it is pretty intense at the moment. No major side effects except for one day of diarrhoea and feeling nauseous

So lovely to read everyone's experience. I see a lot about protein shakes. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

I am on day 6 and this stuff is nothing short of miraculous. I feel like I have won the lottery.

100% could not agree more!!

Shudacudawuda · 09/10/2024 20:11

Im on day 5 and for the first time since the jab I have felt a bit hungry today and looked forward to my dinner. Nothing troublesome though, but makes me realise that it definitely has been affecting me this week.
No real side affects at all, bit tired the day after the jab but that's it so far.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/10/2024 20:11

What facilities do you have at work?

I WFH now but back when I worked in the office and was dieting a food thermos was my saviour.

If you cook up 500g 5% fat beef mince with a tin of tomatoes, tin of sliced carrots, couple of chopped onions, couple of punnets of baby button mushrooms and whatever seasoning pack you like (chilli, shepherds pie, bolognaise...) it makes 4 generous portions and gives you a decent amount of protein and fibre but low carb and a couple of portions of veg per serving. I'd get that really hot in the morning, preheat the food flask by putting boiling water in it for at least 5 mins then fill it. The flask kept it hot till lunch time. Each portion is about 220calories

If you have a microwave at work you can make scrambled egg (depending on how sensitive colleagues are to the smell), just put a couple of eggs still in shell into a Tupperware with any seasoning, veg, cheese etc you usually add, then at lunch just crack the eggs, give it a stir and cook it in 1 min blasts stirring in between till it's the consistency you like.

Warm salad was another favourite, put prepped veg - mushrooms, green beans, sugar snap peas, asparagus, tenderstem broccoli etc into a Tupperware with a knob of butter and some seasoning. In another pot take some wafer thin ham, chicken or a sliced boiled egg. At lunch just take the lid off and put it loosely over the top of the Tupperware so there's room for steam to escape then microwave for 3 mins to steam the veg and melt the butter, stir in the meat or egg and enjoy. About 200 cals depending on amount of butter and meat/egg.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 09/10/2024 20:23

I've just bought myself a new lunchbox with lots of little compartments. Today I had ham, carrot sticks, wrap, greek yog with honey, apple. I could only eat half a ham wrap, one carrot stick and the yoghurt at lunch! I very often just put a spoonful of whatever we had for dinner in a plastic box. I do have access to microwave and toaster. I also freeze individual portions of soup and any meals we have leftovers from. 2 teenage boys so not often...

Rockfordpeach · 09/10/2024 20:29

Thanks. I have access to a microwave and air fryer although I don't like to use them too much. I find I don't have much energy or inclination to prep stuff at the moment. I'm living on bread lol

I'm an October starter! My pen, ordered via Joy, has just arrived. I plan to take the first injection tomorrow PM. There are lots of nice things about Joy - the packaging was fancy, and I like the box for storing the pen. But the coaching support they advertise hasn't been great - it's really hard to figure out how to contact them.

I'm really worried about side effects, as it's very problematic with my job to be dashing to the loo or taking time off work. So I'm thinking about how to manage that. Hopefully with lots of small meals and plenty of water! I struggle with IBS (eggs, salads and granola+yoghurt set me off, and toast with lots of butter helps!) so I have stocked up on Buscopan.

I have 15 kgs to get to a weight I'm happy with, then an extra 4 kgs to get to a healthy BMI. I have a reasonably good metabolism, and if I stick to 1000-1200 calories then do lose weight. But I am SUCH a stress eater and find it incredibly hard to stick to any plan. I can have a good breakfast and lunch, then come home (tired and starving and stressed) and have gin and toast while I'm cooking the kids' dinner. I'm really hoping that Mounjaro can help me that that aspect.

Vegemite123 · 09/10/2024 20:34

PS: I'm not telling anyone in real life that I'm starting this treatment, but know I'll do better with some cheerleaders around me. So I'm really hoping that some online support will help.

So rude. You could order from zava they would deliver and the same as Asda use.

Downandout21 · 09/10/2024 20:44

Took my first dose yesterday. No real side effects, had a headache but then I often get headaches and nothing paracetamol didn't manage.

Not eaten much today as slept for 3 hours but had D&V Tuesday (not MJ related) so pretty wiped out today.

Felt slightly hungry but didn't crave food, ate dinner as usual but far smaller portion.

Evenstar · 09/10/2024 21:46

@InfoSecInTheCity thank you, I have screenshot your explanation, thank you for making it so clear. I feel much calmer now about doing the first jab.

Hello 👋

I'm due to start next Friday when I return from holiday. I did consider starting last week when it arrived but didn't want to risk feeling unwell in holiday.

I ordered via Med Express and had no issues but have heard there are issues with delivery times being reported. Do you know if they normally email before your next order is due?

I thought I'd be organized and order the 5mg now so it's to hand but it is currently making me go through a consultation again and only offering 2.5mg?

There’s a minimum time frame before you can re-order. I ordered my 2.5mg on 19th September and I couldn’t re- order any dose before the 3rd October.

When I reordered for 5mg, I ordered it bang on the third (Thursday) not wanting to be caught out by waiting for a review from the doctors, stock levels or wait times - it was reviewed and prescribed the same day and arrived on the Saturday so it’s currently in the fridge waiting it’s turn.

Oncewassmith · 09/10/2024 07:14

Just wondering how often everyone is weighing themselves? I've been doing it daily and saw a steady drop of 7kg (3rd injection 2.5mg today) but this morning, had 2kg appear on the scales again (although appetite suppression wasn't as good yesterday as it has been)! Still pleased with the 5kg (still 40kg to go)

I once had a coach who suggested weighing every day and then taking the average weight loss over the week as the best indicator of actual true weight lost. As we go up and down depending on bowel movements, time of eating, water retention etc.

UBU · 09/10/2024 23:19

Day 5
Not eaten much today and had a headache but other than that and slight intermittent nausea, I have been fine

Yesterday was weird in that woke up really hungry and found it difficult to not think about food. However, all other days, suppression has been good and have struggled to remember to eat.

My 2nd jab is due on Saturday but am away from Thurs - Mon so debating whether to take with me as think it can be kept out of the fridge under 30 degrees once started - is that correct?

My biggest problem is remembering to drink enough water but I am feeling thirsty more often so that is helping; on about 2L per day.

NearlyAutumnNow · 09/10/2024 23:34

@UBU yes stored out of fridge from first jab is fine

That’s good to know, I was wondering about that. I’m due second jab on Saturday and like someone else said so far my suppression seems to be improving as the days go by. I’m able to eat a sensible evening meal e.g today small sweet potato, cauliflower, carrots and broccoli with a vegetarian burger. That’s the most I’ve eaten at meal time so far but completely satisfied.Ive not eaten between meals at all and small yet nutrition rich breakfast and lunch. Hope this does t bore you all stupid but: raspberry, banana Greek yogurt, mixed seeds added to a really decent protein shake powder mixed with water (which is designed for exercise/performance as an addition to normal diet, I’ll let you know what it is as no nasty ingredients in it) I’m only doing shakes on work days (pushed for time first thing in the morning) as the psyllium husk (take for constipation and has worked perfectly) is so disgusting tasting and requires large amounts of fluids I put that in too, tin of tuna , wholemeal pitta and salad for lunch. Usually I wouldn’t have the pitta but I’m trying to introduce a little carbohydrate into my diet as I’ve not been eating any and I’ve decided that’s not a totally balanced approach. Without all the snacking and binging I should be able to eat some carbs without weight gain - it was just one way in the past I tried and failed to offset my binging!

On a different note, the sleep thing!!! Last night I woke at 2:30am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I hope this doesn’t become a frequent side effect. I’ve also experienced the weird dreams.
