Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

Hoping to start on Friday so would like to join please. I should pick up my first pen from ASDA tomorrow

Currently 113kg (BMI 38.2) which is around 10kg less than last summer, but I haven’t lost any more since before Christmas last year. I have fibromyalgia, underactive thyroid and asthma and take a medication that increases appetite so it’s very hard. I was prediabetic last summer but managed to reverse that.

I was told by a consultant that I would be an ideal candidate for jabs and my GP has referred me to the regional weight management service, but the waiting list is around 3 years and it seemed from the website that I might not even get them when I reached the top of the list, but could be considered for surgery which seems completely illogical. I have just had a “big” birthday and decided that I don’t want to suffer with obesity and it’s effect on my health for any more years.

I've noticed on Tik Tok that lots of people seem to be eating the processed 'high protein' bars, shakes etc and they have constipation - I wonder whether its all the emulsifiers?

I think you're on to something! I have been fine when it comes to constipation but I have been eating kvarg and quark and chicken etc to get extra protein in rather than shakes and meal replacements.

I just think we are using mounjaro alongside lifestyle changes to hopefully learn how to sustain our weight loss when we do stop taking it and relying on meal replacements and shakes isn't going to help build those habits that we will need when we come off it!

Hi Evenstar I'm also on a med which causes weight gain, and know what you mean. I'm finding the mounjaro helpful, I spoke to the GP and they think it will help.

My husband had to take my jab in and put it in the fridge today as I’m away with work and he’s with the kids.

He did ask me why don’t I just go to the gym and follow eating healthily but apart from that he’s not said anything except I don’t need it (I clearly do).

Money isn’t a huge issue as Iv bought it from my own account so didn’t need to tell him really, it’s only because I want to take my first dose on Friday so wanted the pen ready and waiting for when I’m back from work.

mumto2teenagers · 09/10/2024 17:00

Had my first dose yesterday before I went to bed. Had to be up early for work, slept well and got up easily but did feel tired on the train.

Was a bit nervous about the injection, but really couldn't feel it, the needle is so tiny. It was a bit itchy about 30 mins after the injuction, just around the injection site and today I have a small bruise.

No real side effects, had a dry mouth when I woke up and have been feeling a bit cold today. It's already working, only had a protein shake for breakfast, went to M&S at lunchtime and didn't really crave anything but had a small pasta pot and a protein mousse, I'm going to an event after work so having a high protein meal from M&S before I leave the office. In total my calories will still be just under 1000 so probably should be eating more but really do not feel hungry enough. Have also been drinking a lot of water.

I've also had some supplements, started them last week. Multi vitimins, apple cider vinegar gummies and a pro-biotic. Today I also had a couple of fibre gummies but not the full recommended dose as not sure whether I need them.

I picked mine up yesterday and the plan was to begin last night but I completely chickened out! I’m so nervous about the side effects making me feel really poorly! I’m now thinking I’ll wait till Saturday evening (have a big family day out on Saturday day time) and then at least I’m home on Sunday if I feel unwell. How has everyone found side effects the first few days?

LeatherJacketWedding · 09/10/2024 17:24

Did everyone get a sharps box with their first order?
I didn’t and am thinking I need to buy one, otherwise where do I dispose of all the spent needles?

When I ordered I was asked if I needed a shaped box so said yes, you definitely need one

I didn't seem to have any side effects at all, and suppression was apparent the next morning. Go for it!

My only side effect was aches neck/shoulders/ribs on the first day, been absolutely fine apart from that.

TraceyBee · 09/10/2024 17:51

I had my first injection at about 8pm last night. Today I am exhausted, so very tired. I have also been burping more than usual but I haven't had any other side effects.

Food wise I haven't been hungry at all. But I have eaten because I know I have to. I just don't fancy anything, whereas usually I would have had food and snacks through the day.

Really hoping this works because at 5' 7" and 16st 12lbs I have a lot to lose.

Bobbinsbop · 09/10/2024 17:59

Hi I have just ordered so hopefully will be accepted.
i have ordered from pharmacy2u does anyone know if it comes with needles? If not which ones do i need to buy.

hopeishere · 09/10/2024 18:01

What are you supposed to do with the sharps box when it's full??

I had to select that I needed one when I made my order (think I paid for it) or I think it came without one as standard

butteredparsnip · 09/10/2024 18:06

2nd dose this morning! The last couple of days food noise and appetite have definitely increased and I've had horrible headaches. I haven't been able to eat much though as it gives me reflux. Relieved that food noise and appetite is back in check straight away with the 2nd jab and no headache today. Hope everyone is getting on ok and welcome to the new starters!

Depends on your local area, some places the council will collect/have drop off points, others a pharmacy or doctors surgery will take them, I think there is a guide of sorts on the nhs website.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 09/10/2024 18:22

I am on day 6 and this stuff is nothing short of miraculous. I feel like I have won the lottery.

Autumnowl · 09/10/2024 18:44

Does it not come with needles and a box ,I hope I wasn't supposed to ask for them as extras , surely the company would realise I need them as it was the first time buying the pen

Sunblocker · 09/10/2024 18:48

Just injected my first dose! Full of trepidation about side effects but I am telling myself that I never worry about side effects from any other medication- I just take it! I’ve researched and pondered for so long that this feels like a huge moment! I have at least 6 stone to lose so I know this could be a long haul and I’m not thinking it’ll be a quick fix but I do feel like I’ve put my health first for once.

xLollytee · 09/10/2024 18:50

Good luck to everybody starting on their Journeys!

I started Mounjaro on 9th of September with a starting weight of 17 Stone 10 🙈

In 4 weeks I have lost 1 stone 7lb ☺️

first dose Friday night today is the first day I have felt ok. Awful nausea barely eaten anything first 4 days not sure I can face taking it again. I would advise taking it when you are off work if possible. Hopefully you will be ok.

I'm feeling anxious I won't understand how to put it together and use it ..I'm never good with instructions

It's really and truly incredibly simple.

The pen is all assembled, you just take the cap off,

The needle tips have a paper seal over the screw on bit which you remove and then you screw it onto the pen.

You take off the lid off the needle tip, often there's another cover that you just pull off.

Then you twist the knob on the end of the pen to the first little line and press it in. This is called priming the pen. You might need to do it a couple of times the first time you use the pen. You're looking for a drop of fluid on the needle tips.

Then you twist the knob and just keep on twisting for ages till you hit the number 1.

It's ready to go. Pick your spot, I use belly because it's all flab so plenty of subcutaneous fat to inject into.

Decisively but not hard just press the needle in then push the knob on the end of the pen and keep pushing till it's back to 0, it takes a bit longer than you'd expect and it's a good idea to make sure the little window with the number is facing up so you can see it before you inject. Once you hit hold it still till the count of 10 then remove it.

It is a teeny tiny super thin needle and you barely feel it. Honestly i'm not being macho or shining you on, it's almost surprisingly painless.
