Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

My issue is still drinks. I hate plain water, so drinking squash, but i cant have no added sugar or sugar free as im allergic to artificial sweetners. One meoky cup which im hoping does me all day is 250cals and way over sugar targets. I wish i could learn to like plain water, but at 40 years old i cant see it happening any time soon :(

Fizzleaway · 06/10/2024 13:53

What ‘diets’ are people following?

Im planning to loosely do a very old version of weight watchers called pro points. It’s my old faithful!

Could you have watered down fruit juice?

Im not, im hoping just smaller portions of our usual meals or cheap alternatives. Today my kids are having southern fried chicken wraps and wedges. So im having jasmine rice, tuna, cucumber, siracha mayo, and sesame seeds. I cant really afford to eat differently from them every day though, and my shifts make cooking proper meals difficult. On nights this week, tues/wed/thurs/fri, cooking any of those days is going to be impossible lol

How about hot drinks like miso? Fruit teas?

I like water with cucumber and fresh mint in as a cold drink, would that work for you? I give the mint a bit of a bash to release the favour.

So far my 'diet' is the very scientific "don't stuff your face with all the cheese, crisps and chocolate you usually scoff" alongside "only eat when you're hungry".

This leads to no snacks, small portions and an awful lot of water to drink.

That sounds nice.

I’m forever making different meals for my kids / husband but I’m a huge snacker and not a meal eater. Part of my issue!!

😂😂😂 sounds like a good diet plan!

This thread has been really reassuring to read and hearing about everyone's great losses is amazing, I haven't been feeling nervous at all but going to do my first injection in about 25 minutes and reading all the instructions has got my tummy doing somersaults!

Loosely following Slimming World-I say loosely because I haven’t really managed to eat since my first jab.

Doghairismyglitter · 06/10/2024 14:33

5 hours on, no negative side effects yet except a really dry mouth, 1 litre of water down already which is kind of a positive side effect I guess!

Catsservant · 06/10/2024 15:17

Took first dose on Friday night and have felt very nauseous since can only have water and plain crackers hope this passes soon.

NearlyAutumnNow · 06/10/2024 16:22

TMI but how is everyone getting on in the number 2 toilet department? I haven’t been to the loo since starting (first injection Thursday night). Really don’t want to end up constipated. I’ve just taken a fibre supplement and have got physillium husk on order which should hopefully be here tomorrow. But is anyone else in same boat??

DandelionsDaisies · 06/10/2024 16:30

For those feeling quite sick on this the pharmacy you ordered your pen from can also order anti sickness tablets.

autumn1610 · 06/10/2024 16:33

Just took my first dose. Was waiting till after my dad’s birthday as we were going out for a nice meal and I made a cake so wanted to make sure I was fully engaged with it. Just watched a good little YouTube video on how to inject and wasn’t painful but the needle is so small. So fingers crossed and let’s see how it goes!

No specific diet here - I have my calories per day, and that’s split between fat / carbs / protein % (macronutrition). At the weekend I am more lax about hitting my macros and don’t care if I eat a higher % of carbs etc. but I keep to my calories.

Equally, if I’m extra active ( have just spent 3 days at a competition helping my friend averaging 25k steps / day plus all the manual labour) I allow myself a little extra.

2.5mg continues to reduce my appetite enough that I can still eat, but make better choices and tend to wait for meals rather than snack.

UpUpUpU · 06/10/2024 17:28

I am a chronically constipated person anyway so have of course confined that theme! I take a constipation dose of Milk of Magnesia every 3 or 4 days as my normal. I too have met pooed since Wednesday morning so feeling a bit bloated.

I also have a headache but I actually think that is sugar withdrawal. I would eat obscene amounts of chocolate a day and haven’t touched any since my first jab on Thursday.

I still don’t think I’m drinking enough but about to have a 500ml bottle of water now.

My starting weight last week was 129.4, so you’re not alone!

My starting weight is higher 🙈

Took my first dose 3 hours ago and wasn't expecting to feel much different yet but my mouth is really dry!

Official starting stats
CW - 17st 4
GW - no idea!

I'm 5'3 so to have a healthy bmi I need to be 10st 4 or under but that's the exact weight I was when I was 16 and had my prom (I remember as I lost about a stone in the run up to it) but that's feels a very unrealistic target!

I am happy to be a size 12/14 so I think I need to aim for around 11 and a half to 12 stone. I lift weights now so that obviously makes a difference when it comes to weight which bmi doesn't take into account so I think aiming for 12st and just seeing how I feel and looking at other things such as fat/muscle % once I (hopefully) get to that sort of region is a good idea.

I’m not following a diet either. Just trying to eat healthily , small amount of carbs and plenty of protein, veg and fruit (although not too much) trying to more of less cut out sugar apart from a dark chocolate’s square or two as a little hit! Like you I’m hoping to reduce portion sizes and hopefully that will do the trick. I might do a fast day a couple of times a week although of wary of that while taking MJ because of low blood sugar so will wait and see how I get on with portion reduction and Mediterranean type diet.
I’m not feeling much different so far -
im 24hrs in - maybe it’s going to take a while to kick in? I’ve actually felt hungry a couple
of times today !!! But haven’t overeaten.
Well done to everyone who’s slipped down the scales this week 🙌🏻

ItsMintUpNorth · 06/10/2024 17:56

I'm also going to try not to follow and a strict diet, hoping the MJ will just help me have better portion control/less snacks/more protein and veg and less carbs.

However if the appetite suppression really kicks in I think I will calorie count on days where I don't feel like I'm eating enough just to make sure I'm not going too low calorie wise.

Feel for you in the constipation front - that’s what I’m worried about - and the resultant haemorrhoids!! I’ve started taking psyllium husk powder but haven’t used it before so I hope that will help? Yes, we need to drink is that because of water absorption due to slower gut transit? I have a bit of headache too but I do get them a lot anyway. Yours probably is sugar withdrawal! Hope things shift for you soon as that’s the worst feeling.
