Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

I'm also going to try not to follow and a strict diet, hoping the MJ will just help me have better portion control/less snacks/more protein and veg and less carbs.

However if the appetite suppression really kicks in I think I will calorie count on days where I don't feel like I'm eating enough just to make sure I'm not going too low calorie wise.

Good plan, I think that’s what I need to do too.

So far my 'diet' is the very scientific "don't stuff your face with all the cheese, crisps and chocolate you usually scoff" alongside "only eat when you're hungry".

This leads to no snacks, small portions and an awful lot of water to drink.

😂👍🙌🏻

EVK · 06/10/2024 18:11

I’m also cutting alcohol right down. I would usually drink a bottle of red wine over the weekend (that sometime creeps up to another half and slides into first part of the week!)but haven’t drunk at all this weekend- first time in I don’t know how long - love my red wine but it makes me binge and I don’t want to be sick either ! So that’s a whole load of calories knocked out - not saying I won’t drink at all but hoping to cut right back.

mjuser · 06/10/2024 18:18

Ive not had any problems with constipation, but due to headaches I have been drinking WAY more than I thought I'd need to. At least 3-4 litres a day to keep the head away.

So maybe that has helped? I've never drunk as much water as this in my life (or wee-ed as much!!!)

Namechangetheyarewatching · 06/10/2024 18:21

When is the best time to start?

Morning or evening?

Took my first dose 3 hours ago and wasn't expecting to feel much different yet but my mouth is really dry!

Official starting stats
CW - 17st 4
GW - no idea!

I'm 5'3 so to have a healthy bmi I need to be 10st 4 or under but that's the exact weight I was when I was 16 and had my prom (I remember as I lost about a stone in the run up to it) but that's feels a very unrealistic target!

I am happy to be a size 12/14 so I think I need to aim for around 11 and a half to 12 stone. I lift weights now so that obviously makes a difference when it comes to weight which bmi doesn't take into account so I think aiming for 12st and just seeing how I feel and looking at other things such as fat/muscle % once I (hopefully) get to that sort of region is a good idea.

I’m going to track my weight just as I want to see how much I’ve lost/havent. But very much like you and going with how I feel. I’m 5’5” and 13st10 my healthy bmi should be 10st9lb. I’m size 14-16 at the moment and want to be more a 12 which I find more sustainable and I also can’t imagine being that weight as I haven’t been that weight since my teens most likely

Doghairismyglitter · 06/10/2024 18:40

9 hours on and I’ve now started to feel nauseous, have a tingly pins and needles type feeling in my hands, a bit dizzy and a headache. My sense of smell seems stronger as well?

Yes I'm hoping alcohol isn't going to make me unwell as I want to hugely cut down but still be able to enjoy a glass or two when I am out which is normally at least once a week.

Studyartic · 06/10/2024 18:55

This is my first week of taking Mounjaro, and today is day 6 (the next dose is tomorrow morning).

I noticed that it seemed to wear off a bit today. Has anyone else experienced this?

I suppose it will take some time to build up a therapeutic dose in my system.

hopeishere · 06/10/2024 19:08

I've done it! I hope. The needle didn't seem to have an inner cap and I couldn't work out what the prime symbol was!! But I felt a drop come out when I primed it and then did the injection. Managed to jab myself with the needle twice taking it off!!

I think I might need to move injecting to a Monday when the house is quiet!!

Doghairismyglitter · 06/10/2024 19:28

I’ve got a fifty pence piece dark purple bruise 🙁 not sure if this is normal or I did it wrong/too hard?

I had a bruise on one of my jabs, no idea why as don't think I did anything different, didn't feel different but I must have hit a bit wrong somehow or jiggled it without knowing. It didn't happen the next time or since.

Stressfordays · 06/10/2024 19:37

Lost 7lb in my first week! Just done my 2nd jab. Did it in my arm as I've heard it can give good results?? It's itchy now though, one of my friends on it is having skin reactions to the jab so maybe that will be me too...

Side effects this week were 1 day of a dull headache, constipation and some mild body aches. My smoking has less then halved and I have the intention to stop cold turkey once I've finished my pouch of baccy!

Wow amazing that it's helped you quit smoking!

CatKitt · 06/10/2024 19:44

I'm loving all the posts (not only on this thread but other threads and places too) from people who're quitting smoking and drinking on MJ. It's wonderful to see these extra benefits!

RunSlowTalkFast · 06/10/2024 19:46

End of day 3 for me and it's possible I've finally experienced some very mild suppression as it looks like I'm going to stick to my calories for the first time in weeks! Couldn't say for certain though.

I took mine on Thursday night when everyone was asleep as I'm keeping it a secret but maaaaan those clicks sound awfully loud in a silent house 😂 Going to do it earlier in the day this week when I have some time alone in the house in the afternoon!

SW 12st 9lbs
CW 12st 9lbs
GW 🤷🏻‍♀️

Need to be under 10st to be a healthy weight but I think I might have to decide whether I want to be a healthy weight with loose skin or overweight without loose skin. Anyone else thinking they might have this dilemma?

I'm on day 6 of week 1 too.

Definitely felt more hungry this morning than during the last week.

I was able to eat more for dinner without feeling stuffed too.

Roll on my second injection tonight!

I’ve not thought much about loose skin at all tbh. I’be decided i’m not going on bmi, I’m going with to get where I’m happy with my bodyand can maintain. If I’m ‘healthy’ then great but if I’m ‘overweight’ and feel I’m where I want to be then I’ll maintain at that. Obviously tracking my weight loss but for me it’s more about feeling comfortable in my skin. Currently classed as obese so overweight is better than that!

TMI but how is everyone getting on in the number 2 toilet department? I haven’t been to the loo since starting (first injection Thursday night). Really don’t want to end up constipated. I’ve just taken a fibre supplement and have got physillium husk on order which should hopefully be here tomorrow. But is anyone else in same boat??

I was in the same boat and felt very uncomfortable. I always have flaxseed anyway but yesterday I bought some dried prunes to nibble on, which have worked! I read in another thread that two kiwi fruits a day, skin included, keep you going.

Wow @Stressfordays that’s an amazing loss!! I’m only on day one but have smoked 6 today instead of my usual 15-18. I’d love to be able to lose weight, stop smoking and stop drinking all in one. However, while I don’t feel any desire to snack right now (a first!), I do still have a massively strong pull for a glass of wine for that calm, protected, non anxious feeling it gives me.

Yes, agree totally. Looking forward to tomorrow morning.

I got scared because you have to twist the pen for what seemed forever before you see a 1.

yeah I am on day 5 and think it’s worn off as my eating has gone up, felt more hungry than I did the first few days. I am using the My Fitness Pal to record all my food and fluid intake and have kept under 1450 calories daily, which no way could I have done so before!
