Rockfordpeach · 28/09/2024 17:08

Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

I’m about to do my first one after putting the DC to bed… I’ve had one bottle of Budweiser though (just finished now) will that make a difference / should I not do the injection??? I’m surprisingly anxious about injecting and the side effects and also like PP feel strangely sad that I won’t be able to treat-eat in the evening when the kids are in bed (which is most of my problem re weight!)

BMI isnt always the best indicator, and i feel everyone on this thread is going to understand that battle with weight. It isnt a miracle cure, its a tool to help with weightloss, so i dont think anyone is going to get annoyed. If you had said your BMI was 21 maybe a little concern would be shown, but thats not the case, and this isnt a tool that should be gatekeeped, it should be available to help everyone who needs it to be healthier.

Ive ordered supplements online, still waiting for mine to be delivered so didnt make it to town. Im not sure the supplements are necessary, you can take it without, i am expecting hefty side effects though. I cant take anything other than paracetamol usually as i get every side effect going from every medication, so im wanting to be prepared for the what ifs, but you dont have to take them if you are lucky enough to be side effect free.

So true, thank you. I’ve done mine early evening - that’s it - over the threshold!! For anyone worrying about actual injection, it’s nothing at all - you won’t feel a thing.

WeeklyJab · 05/10/2024 16:59

Jab due but I’m pushing it back to Sunday as more convenient. However, I am definitely more hungry than I was earlier in the week.

I had a sliver of the cake I baked for the family instead of a big fat slice, and that was fine - enough to have a good taste, not enough to feel like I was indulging. I paid a lot more attention to it, eating more mindfully (sorry, very annoying term, I know!)

Paying attention to food rather than just eating is definitely a habit I should encourage.

Nice to see so many people supporting each other on these threads, isn’t it?

😂 mindful eating but it does help and is a great habit. The support is great 😊

For the first time since starting MJ, I'm actually very happy that I've lasted for 1 week with no problems. I went up to 3.5mg because 2.5mg wasn't doing much and I was ravenous by day 3. I'm now on the 6th day of 3.5mg (injecting tomorrow) and still feeling the same way I did after I injected. It seems to be a good balance for me and I'll be staying on 3.5mg till it stops working.

This is brilliant! How many weeks were you on 2.5? And are you counting clicks to get 3.5?

I'm doing ok thank you. I definitely have some appetite suppression but I don't think it's full suppression. I feel a bit nauseous and am burping lots 😂🙈 drinking lots of water and have lost 4lbs in the last couple of days but I have a LOT to lose so I expect my losses may be slightly bigger to begin with

Thanks @butteredparsnip I was 3 weeks on 2.5mg. I just couldn't continue and it was either that or stop as the hunger and food noise from day 3 were not something I could handle - given that was why I went on MJ in the first place. I had already ordered my 5mg pen so I counted clicks to get to 3.5mg (Got my last 2.5mg and another 1mg from the 5 mg pen).

I was going to increase by 0.5mg (making it 3mg, 4mg, etc)) or 1.0 (3.5mg, 4.5mg, etc) to find the right dose but at the last minute, I decided I didn't want to do 3mg and have the same issue as 2.5mg or just a bit less. So I increased by 1.0 (so 3.5mg) and I'm so happy I did.

Finally able to stay on and last the whole week, so much so that when remember it's jab day tomorrow, I feel like it came too soon.

How's yours going? How long have you been on and what dose are you? Have you found the right dose yet?

Pegsmum · 05/10/2024 20:46

I’m so grateful that this thread was started, thank you @Rockfordpeach . It’s so nice to share our experience and support each other. I started Thursday but I’m thinking I’m going to have to change my injection day. I’m really struggling to eat and, as I’m hoping to keep this a secret I don’t want to raise any questions when I may be in company at the weekend. I can say I’m cutting down but at the moment I can’t manage even a small portion. I’m wondering whether this may wear off a bit after a few days, I have had times that I feel quite hungry but feel so full after a couple of mouthfuls! I wonder if anyone knows if this is likely to subside as the days go on?

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 05/10/2024 20:51

I made it through my first Saturday with no pigging out on junk food I'm delighted!!

The disappearance of food noise is so amazing, I went for a shop in tesco and usually I would be going oh here that looks nice at every treat and I didn't even turn my head!

I don't think I will have a big loss myself this week as I think being ill on Monday and Tuesday before starting I lost all my water weight, so I'm not expecting a big first week loss.

SausageMonkey2 · 05/10/2024 20:53

Just started too. Week 1 was pretty horrendous for the first two days but settled in nicely on week 2. Lost 6lb in two weeks so happy with that. Happy not to be thinking of food all the time too. Have a med express code too if anyone needs it. Has been a positive experience for me so far

YummyCookie · 05/10/2024 21:17

@Pegsmum I’m having the same problem. Today I’ve managed 3/4 of a pain au chocolate (friend brought it into work for me and I didn’t want to raise any suspicions!), a skyr yoghurt, half a protein shake and a couple of bites of a garlic bread. It just feels really strange. No side effects though so far. Ironically I can’t stop thinking about food, but it’s more the process and the fact that I don’t want to eat rather than me craving the usual chocolate.

How did you get on? Have done mine too and feeling nervous about what’s to come ! The variance in effect between people is interesting, from no effect to hardly able to eat! Also in symptoms from sickness etc.
to none at all. I had some Green and Blacks dark chocolate this evening incase I can’t stomach it later and I’m staying of the booze as people
have said they got sick. Hoping that your Bud hasn’t made you ill!! X

Tohaveandtohold · 05/10/2024 21:23

I took my first Jab some minutes ago. The needle was so small, it was painless. I hope and pray that I don’t experience bad side effects but so far, I’m hopeful. Good luck to everyone else

igivein · 05/10/2024 21:27

Well it’s done - first jab in.
when I saw the length of the needle I thought that’s got to hurt at least a bit, but I didn’t even feel it.
Going to go for an early night tonight and see if anything happens tomorrow …
Haven’t got my starting weight yet as I normally weigh first thing.

ShineyHappyPeeple · 05/10/2024 21:31

I've just done it too. The needle was very fine and it didn't take very long.

Drinking a big glass of water and then off to bed. Weigh in tomorrow but I'm around 79kg at the moment..

Good luck everyone!

Pegsmum · 05/10/2024 21:39

@YummyCookie Glad I’m not alone! It’s so weird isn’t it? I haven’t stopped thinking about food either, but I’m not so much thinking about eating it-like you say more the process and thinking I can’t manage to eat it.

ShineyHappyPeeple · 05/10/2024 21:40

Does it stay in the fridge? The guidance is confusing - it says to store in a refrigerator or can be stored unrefrigerated for up to 30 days..

While unopened, it needs to be stored in the fridge. It can last till the expiry date in there.

After it's been opened, you can store it either in the fridge or anywhere else but storage temperature has to be under 30 degrees. The opened one should be used within 30 days regardless of where you stored it. X

Doghairismyglitter · 05/10/2024 21:50

@EVK I didn’t get any responses in time so I wimped out 😫 I’ve now got a glass of wine on the go (I’m hoping this may help with my drinking, I drink in the evenings to stop anxiety and help me to sleep and it’s a habit I really want to break) so I’m going to do it first thing tomorrow morning and hope I’ll be okay without side effects during the day

Doghairismyglitter · 05/10/2024 21:54

Without trying to bum anyone out, I was raped and suffer terrible PTSD, anxiety and panic attacks following this. The person was charged and sentenced to 12 years in prison a few weeks ago, alcohol at night has been my safety net to stop the anxiety late at night and horrendous nightmares, but now the person is in prison I want to stop the evening drinking, so so desperately

EVK · 05/10/2024 21:58

TheOtherSide21 · 30/09/2024 10:58

I took my first 2.5mg dose on Friday. As someone who generally has a healthy relationship with food but a TERRIBLE metabolism I just need it to help match my appetite to my actual metabolic needs - not suppress it entirely. I am quite worried for those I see online who have whacked their dosage up to the point that they either can't eat or have to force themselves, and then have to turn to a raft of supplements just to try and stay healthy. There's such a difference between losing weight through calorie deficit vs complete nutritional deficit. I think side effects are also caused by lack of nutrition, not the medication alone.

I've spent nearly a year researching before committing. As someone who historically was very fit and healthy I have struggled with the rapid weight gain and with not being able to lose it and maintain my health through diet (macronutrition) and exercise alone. Honestly - it got to the point to lose anything I was having to commit to circa 20k steps per day, ride and look after my two horses, and also fit in a gym class on top of a full time job. Totally unsustainable. I went through the rigmarole of health testing to make sure it wasn't a health condition (thyroid etc.) first.

So far I've lost 5lb. I know that is a reaction to immediate calorie reduction and that it will probably slow - but as I'm really active anyway I'm hoping it won't be too much of a shock to the system and I will be a regular loser. But my desire to eat unnecessary foods is more or less gone, and I've found it has shifted the balance of effort vs reward for food. I.e. pulling over to grab a cereal bar from the garage because I'm peckish just isn't worth it anymore - so I make even better choices.

Time will tell.

Although I am new to the MJ journey, and will no doubt have to lean on others for advice / knowledge in that respect, as someone who knows a bit about basic diet and nutrition in general, I would say to anyone who is asking along the lines of 'what calories should I aim for?' or 'Will 1200 be enough?' - talk to the healthcare professionals who prescribed you the medication, or even better a nutritionist, for correct and bespoke advice. Everyone is different, and what works for one person won't work for you- and you should set yourself up to succeed, and stay healthy in the process.

Good luck everyone!!

Some sound advice - how are you getting on?

So sorry to read this. Many people have reported the lack of desire for alcohol since starting MJ so I hope it helps you. <hugs>

Bless you. Weekend evening drink habit and resulting munchies is a big part of my weight gain. I drink as a stress reliever too and it’s not the best idea really! This weekend is the first in a very long time that I haven’t cracked open a bottle straight after work on Friday! I think to avoid sickness it might be better to avoid alcohol for the first week or so at least . Not easy - good luck tomorrow.
