Rockfordpeach · 28/09/2024 17:08

Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

Also, how exciting there are so many on here now just taken/about to take!

Rockfordpeach · 05/10/2024 16:30

I'm pretty sure you can use it when it's been delivered unrefrigerated but only has a shelf life of 30 days so fine if you want to use it straight away but not if you want to wait a bit

Would taking a bog-standard multi-vitamin from H&B be recommended by anyone or do I need some more oomph from other supplements?

Also an update on the insomnia - seemed to only have it for one night and I'm putting it down to a sudden drop in calories consumed and not drinking anywhere near enough water. Drinking like a fish now.

Ive spent more time researching now and it seems a bit trial and error and what works best for you with any potential side effects.

But the most common i have found is a good all round multivitamin, mg citrate specifically but the combination ones are better, psyllium husk and peppermint oil capsules for the potential digestive side effects, and electrolyte sachets.

Edit to add: And collagen to help skin elasticity

Fizzleaway · 05/10/2024 16:59

I take D3, biotin, iron, b12 and a multivitamin already. I may add in magnesium.

How much has everyone lost already?

WeeklyJab · 05/10/2024 16:59

Jab due but I’m pushing it back to Sunday as more convenient. However, I am definitely more hungry than I was earlier in the week.

I had a sliver of the cake I baked for the family instead of a big fat slice, and that was fine - enough to have a good taste, not enough to feel like I was indulging. I paid a lot more attention to it, eating more mindfully (sorry, very annoying term, I know!)

Paying attention to food rather than just eating is definitely a habit I should encourage.

Nice to see so many people supporting each other on these threads, isn’t it?

Mines arrived and will be taking first dose later. Having read about all the supplements you are all buying etc. I think I’ll take a trip to H &B’s before I do it!! I’m not nervous about injection (both kids IVF) so well used to that and chemo plus herceptin injections but I am nervous about side effects! Interesting comments on alcohol which I will heed! Also thanks for link about 3 in 1 magnesium 👍 some of you seem to have incredibly quick order turn around - mine was over a week and extra photos required. I think because I’m a BMI of 29 ? I don’t know. I have a good 2 1/2 stone to lose but now feeling anxious about not being overweight enough!!! It’s all the warnings when applying - I’ve lost weight since applying but still well into overweight category- ridiculous to feel like that but I’m just nervous. Boots turned me down but ASDA have prescribed! I’ve seen on other threads people getting annoyed with women who have a BMI like mine because they have a lot more to lose. So I outing myself as I’m hoping our group isn’t like that at all. 🙏🏻 I want to be honest here - the support is important to me.

My husband received my delivery today so no longer a secret - haven’t seen him yet so just waiting for all the questioning and potential argument! Really wanted to keep it to myself- he has a knack of accidentally telling people things !!! 🙈

@EVK It's great you found a prescriber. I was thinking of the OP from the other thread and was going to give her the Asda suggestion.

I’ve seen on other threads people getting annoyed with women who have a BMI like mine because they have a lot more to lose

I have to say that if we're talking about the same thread (this one: www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5179897-cant-get-approved-v-overweight?page=1 ), people were not annoyed that she is 29.9bmi but that she was thinking of lying to get it and other pp were encouraging her to do all sorts to deceive the pharmacy and seem a higher bmi than she is. That was what people were discouraging her about. People were also suggesting she tries other providers and let them know so they may prescribe still.

It's interesting how news travels though and you've shared here that people were annoyed because she is that bmi because they have more to lose when that isn't the case. (If it's a different thread, then fair enough. I'll like to read the thread if you can link it) . I'm sure us here would also discourage someone from lying to get it just like in that thread.

Personally, I don't care about people's bmi. If you have something to lose, you have something to lose and I'll happily cheer anyone on in these threads. I only worry about people encouraging others to do the wrong thing to get the injection or getting it from the wrong people like some pp in that thread said.

RunSlowTalkFast · 05/10/2024 17:11

If I haven't had any suppression the first two days of mounjaro I assume I'm not likely to have any this week?

Does it build up in your system? I mean is it at all likely I'll feel it after the 2nd jab or am I probably going to have to wait until I go up to 5mg?

CatKitt · 05/10/2024 17:14

LolaLouise · 05/10/2024 15:48

BMI isnt always the best indicator, and i feel everyone on this thread is going to understand that battle with weight. It isnt a miracle cure, its a tool to help with weightloss, so i dont think anyone is going to get annoyed. If you had said your BMI was 21 maybe a little concern would be shown, but thats not the case, and this isnt a tool that should be gatekeeped, it should be available to help everyone who needs it to be healthier.

Ive ordered supplements online, still waiting for mine to be delivered so didnt make it to town. Im not sure the supplements are necessary, you can take it without, i am expecting hefty side effects though. I cant take anything other than paracetamol usually as i get every side effect going from every medication, so im wanting to be prepared for the what ifs, but you dont have to take them if you are lucky enough to be side effect free.

Don't worry. I doubt anyone was gatekeeping it. Like I wrote above, if it was the same thread I was on, people were discouraging others from not following the rules concerning acquiring the injections. Finding tips and tricks to avoid going through the proper protocols to get MJ gives fodder to the anti-mounjaro crew who think all sorts about "this drug we're all acquiring illegally online with no checks", as they say, and would make restrictions even tighter for people who need it.

I was reading on a FB group today somebody saying it all of a sudden hit her on week 3.
Don't forget though that 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose and it's not really supposed to have much effect to begin with

Yes but most people do seem to feel it straight away and I guess I thought because I'm likely to be at the lighter end of users (5'2 and BMI 32) I kinda thought I wouldn't need a high dose. Ho hum, obviously not how it works unfortunately for me!

Thats not quite how it works. Infact the opposite. Those with a higher initial weight are more likely to loose more early into treatment. Stick with it for a few months, and if it doesnt work for you, there are others you can try if necessary. It doesnt work for everyone, which sucks, but theres options if it doesnt. I have a few friends who were smaller and have had very good early treatment losses with Ozempic. I went for mounjaro as i have more to lose than them, but its an option if it doesnt work.

Yep! Still can't believe mumsnet left it standing. It was hidden for a minute, then came back. I was shocked!

RunSlowTalkFast · 05/10/2024 17:34

Ah so perhaps if your appetite is smaller to begin with it takes a higher dose before it touches the sides! 😄

I've lost 2 stone already this year but am still another 2+ away from a healthy weight. Keep on truckin' I guess!

LeatherJacketWedding · 05/10/2024 17:39

Only 3 full days in and I’m definitely feeling it. In fact, I noticed the difference on the very first full day (I took it before bed). I work with food and am a serial mindless snacker but just haven’t been doing so! It can’t be placebo because that takes thought, and the truth is I just haven’t thought about it. If this continues, l’m planning on staying on 2.5ml for another month as it’s obviously much cheaper.

FlappyFish · 05/10/2024 17:42

butteredparsnip · 04/10/2024 14:42

Cannot even tell you how motivating this is to read! Thank you so much and congratulations , how are you feeling now off the MJ?

Hi @butteredparsnip I feel good! I’ve got into a routine with swimming and I’m doing a course that lets you try different exercises classes each week. I don’t have the confidence to turn up to a. Class I’ve never done, but there are a lot of us doing it so we are all newbies together.

My appetite hasn’t totally come back. If I feel myself wanting to mindlessly eat I just remind myself I haven’t for months and I don’t need it.

I weigh daily. I have done for years anyway, I just couldn’t lose consistently and got defeated each month with my period. I’d lose and then regain each time.

I maintain between 9.6-9.8 and I’m 5’7. I started MJ at 14.3. This was when I started logging.

mjuser · 05/10/2024 18:04

@FlappyFish Your post are so motivating. I really want to be where you are in six months time!

1st weekly weigh in for me today, I lost 3.1kg / 6.8lbs. Pretty happy with that, I know it's mostly water but it's half a stone with no effort really. This stuff is amazing.

I was due to do my 2nd last night but haven't done it because I still have no appetite and no food noise. Might wait until tomorrow. I've really struggled to get calories in this last week which is a novel experience for me, but I don't want to go too low because the whole point of this for me is to try and be "normal" and break the feasting / fasting cycle of doom.

Has anyone else delayed their 2nd jab or thinking about it?

That’s amazing, so glad to hear you’re adjusting so well without it and excellent insight into the exercise and keeping snacking at bay. Your graph is brilliant and thank you for the advice re weighing daily, I might start this too!

I am petrified of needles….. I was more afraid of the injections for covid than of Covid itself.

But 18:10 today I’ve just administered my first MJ dose into my left thigh all by myself (with morale support from DP). The anticipation was so much worse than the actual thing. I didn’t feel a thing. The needle is tiny and painless. It’s done, and I’m on my journey!

NearlyAutumnNow · 05/10/2024 18:20

Hi all, end of second day and feeling appetite suppression definitely kicking in - was super busy this morning so missed breakfast and had a small lunch and had people over so had sliver of cake - normally I would want to be back for more but have easily resisted! Dinner I will have chicken and salad, finding it so much easier to diet than normal, no real side effects so far though I’ve not gone to the no 2 loo yet and thinking I will need to resolve that one tomorrow before it goes on any further!

NearlyAutumnNow · 05/10/2024 18:21

@IWantToSeeMyFeetAgain well done!!

I'm going for it tonight. I do love food so I am feeling a bit sad tonight which feels ridiculous! But I know it's the right thing for me and my health. Hoping to lose 15kg..

thekewgirl · 05/10/2024 18:55

Thank you for the view from the other side @FlappyFish and well done on starting @IWantToSeeMyFeetAgain. Loving having this connection with people doing the same thing. Day 2 for me and all I've had is a protein shake and a glass of wine Blush. And water... about to have chicken salad for dinner but could easily go without - which I won't obviously. I need to eat more tomorrow but for today it's been amazing experiencing the novelty of low appetite. I've also had so much energy and have cleaned the house, gardening and been on a long bike ride.

CatKitt · 05/10/2024 19:09

For the first time since starting MJ, I'm actually very happy that I've lasted for 1 week with no problems. I went up to 3.5mg because 2.5mg wasn't doing much and I was ravenous by day 3. I'm now on the 6th day of 3.5mg (injecting tomorrow) and still feeling the same way I did after I injected. It seems to be a good balance for me and I'll be staying on 3.5mg till it stops working.
