Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

@LolaLouise thats really helpful - what are the magnesium and turmeric for?

theres different types of magnesium, low magnesium can affect the heart (this one i know for certain as i give magnesium infusions at work) , but it also helps to regulate blood glucose and insulin metabolism, and helps with constipation and water absorption in the bowel, and helps convert food into useable energy (Ive learned this this morning, so could be more, or some of that could be weird internet rubbish i have believed lol)

Tumeric i have read is good for joints, and im having issues with my knees on 13 hour shifts, and good for digestion.

UpUpUpU · 05/10/2024 10:01

is anybody planning to use anything on potential saggy areas? I have a lot of stretch marks on my stomach from pregnancy and it’s where I carry most of my weight, so currently doesn’t look bad. I am assuming it’s going to shrivel and look very crepey and anything I can do to make it look better would be fabulous

NearlyAutumnNow · 05/10/2024 10:03

@LolaLouise thanks that’s so helpful, could you send the link for the magnesium you are taking?
@UpUpUpU same here, horrible stretch marks on my tummy which I think is going to look very saggy if I lose weight

So far my basket has:

Multivitamins (general female ones)
collagen
peppermint capsules (ive read sulphur burps are a common side effect)
Vitamin D which i generally take in winter months anyway
Psyllium husk (read constipation common)
Magnesium
Tumeric
lionsmane (i currently function off caffeine and will need to cut down the amount of lattes i drink)
probiotic
electrolyte sachets
protein

I'm taking peppermint oil capsules. They are fab but my first wee after taking them each day leaves a... Tingly sensation on my nether regions 😂🙈

After my 2pm order from MedExpress yesterday, my pen has already arrived and I've injected before I had time to think about it.
Today is the start of a new me!

@BlanketRose woohoo! Congrats!
@LolaLouise really helpful thanks, I ordered the nutrition geek ones x

UBU · 05/10/2024 11:25

My first pen arrived this morning from Oushk - injected straight away before I could give it too much thought too! Excited and a little nervous about side effects but hoping this is a new beginning after a lifetime of being overweight

littleburn · 05/10/2024 11:56

I took my first jab on Tuesday, so just starting day 5. I'm not planning on doing weekly weigh ins as I know from the past I get a bit obsessive with it (I'll end up doing it every day 😬), but the jeans that were tight last week are comfortable on my waist today, so I'm pleased with that.

I've been lucky and had the appetite suppression kick in pretty quickly, so I'm just keeping to two meals a day and prioritising protein, veg and fruit. I'm loving not having so much (any!) mental and emotional energy taken up by debating food choices and then feeling guilty for 'giving in' and eating something I shouldn't because my blood sugars are low. Is this what having a normal relationship with food and eating feels like??

For supplements I'm continuing taking my usual multi-vitamin, magnesium, cod liver oil and collagen. I've got psyllium husk on order which I plan to add to my morning protein smoothie for fibre and have peppermint tea ready in case of indigestion.

RunSlowTalkFast · 05/10/2024 12:05

Midday day two, still no appetite suppression nor reduction in food noise. 🙁

I've literally just done my first Mounjaro 2.5mg injection. I have to day I was pretty apprehensive about doing it. But I feel much better about it now that I have done it.

I watched the Numan video on YouTube to show me how to prime and inject it properly. Do you need to prime the Kwik pen before every injection?

I'm interested to see how I'm going to feel today and the coming days, I'm really hoping for minimum side effects.

I have a Flu Jab and Covid Booster with the health centre next Saturday at 11am, does anyone think or know if the combination of Flu jab, covid booster and second MJ (2.5mg) be an unwise thing to do?

I'm really looking forward to using MJ as a tool to help me with my weight loss. Hopefully it will be a successful one.

I ordered from medexpress this morning and had read lots of threads that said it took 3-5 days to be delivered with all the checks. However mine is going to arrive by lunchtime tomorrow!!

Random question but does anyone know what happens if you aren't in for delivery? I was expecting it wouldn't be here till Monday and the DCs have football all morning tomorrow. DH is home but on nights and rarely hears the door.

Annoyingly it was returned and won't be reattempted until Monday as apparently it requires a signature so they couldn't leave it. They only delivered it 10minutes before I got home. Will it be OK as presumably now it won't be cold?

Yes prime before every use, its about filling the needle to ensure you get the full dose. 2 click priming before each dose also allows for a "golden dose" so each pen can last 5 weeks not 4.

You should be fine having vaccines along side, i would self inject stomach/thighs though and not arms as thats where your vaccines would be, just to avoid trauma, and maybe try and have a few days between the MJ and vaccines if you can push them back a few days?

OverhwelmedMum · 05/10/2024 13:52

Hey I'm joining you ....... ordered from Med Express this morning. I'm nervous and excited! Eek!!

Ok that's good to know about the priming, I'll definitely be doing that each time.

Thanks for the advice for the jabs as well. I'll definitely make sure it's not in the arms as well.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 05/10/2024 14:38

So yesterday I had a usual breakfast/lunch

Hot chocolate for breakfast
Protein pitta with sliced chicken for lunch
5-6 almonds as snack

All going well...

I went out with my friend to the pub in the evening and had alcohol for the first time.

Half a pint in the pub then 1.5 glasses rose later on. When it came time to eat, I really wasn't feeling it so had a few mouthfuls of salad & some pitta bread/hummus.

Was up a 1am & physically sick. But once I had been sick I felt 100% fine again. Back to normal today so I might steer clear of booze from here.... 🙈

Wildywondrous · 05/10/2024 14:56

@WafflingDreamer Was it sent by Royal Mail?
It shouldn't need to be signed for, mine didn't, they left it in the porch.

So glad I found this thread. I ordered mine yesterday morning from Medexpress and it was delivered today . I felt really excited and positive about it yesterday when I ordered it but now feel really scared to take it and trying to psyche myself up 🥲

Mines arrived and will be taking first dose later. Having read about all the supplements you are all buying etc. I think I’ll take a trip to H &B’s before I do it!! I’m not nervous about injection (both kids IVF) so well used to that and chemo plus herceptin injections but I am nervous about side effects! Interesting comments on alcohol which I will heed! Also thanks for link about 3 in 1 magnesium 👍 some of you seem to have incredibly quick order turn around - mine was over a week and extra photos required. I think because I’m a BMI of 29 ? I don’t know. I have a good 2 1/2 stone to lose but now feeling anxious about not being overweight enough!!! It’s all the warnings when applying - I’ve lost weight since applying but still well into overweight category- ridiculous to feel like that but I’m just nervous. Boots turned me down but ASDA have prescribed! I’ve seen on other threads people getting annoyed with women who have a BMI like mine because they have a lot more to lose. So I outing myself as I’m hoping our group isn’t like that at all. 🙏🏻 I want to be honest here - the support is important to me.

My husband received my delivery today so no longer a secret - haven’t seen him yet so just waiting for all the questioning and potential argument! Really wanted to keep it to myself- he has a knack of accidentally telling people things !!! 🙈

LoungeAct · 05/10/2024 15:47

1st dose done!! I’m case any one else is like me and scared of the actual injection, don’t worry - I could hardly feel it at all 😀

BMI isnt always the best indicator, and i feel everyone on this thread is going to understand that battle with weight. It isnt a miracle cure, its a tool to help with weightloss, so i dont think anyone is going to get annoyed. If you had said your BMI was 21 maybe a little concern would be shown, but thats not the case, and this isnt a tool that should be gatekeeped, it should be available to help everyone who needs it to be healthier.

Ive ordered supplements online, still waiting for mine to be delivered so didnt make it to town. Im not sure the supplements are necessary, you can take it without, i am expecting hefty side effects though. I cant take anything other than paracetamol usually as i get every side effect going from every medication, so im wanting to be prepared for the what ifs, but you dont have to take them if you are lucky enough to be side effect free.

LolaLouise · 05/10/2024 16:11

mines just arrived, now im actually nervous lol. Have to wait till after ive been out tonight just incase though

DandelionPockets · 05/10/2024 16:17

Would taking a bog-standard multi-vitamin from H&B be recommended by anyone or do I need some more oomph from other supplements?

Also an update on the insomnia - seemed to only have it for one night and I'm putting it down to a sudden drop in calories consumed and not drinking anywhere near enough water. Drinking like a fish now.
