Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

Starting on Sunday (as long as medexpress approve my prescription and deliver by then…) really keen to get started!

What vitamins are everyone taking? I started yesterday and have about 7 stone to lose aagh!

I already took a Wellwoman multivit and a joint care vitamin (glucosamine and omega-3) so I'll just stick with those. But I am thinking about adding a biotin supplement to them in case it helps reduce the chances of hair loss.

Now that the pen has arrived I am stressing about what day to start taking it! I am worried about side effects and I have an interview on Wednesday so thinking Wednesday night - then it will peak over the weekend?

but if I get bad side effects they might kick in on Thursday!

poppysqueak · 23/09/2024 13:34

Hi I wondered if anyone has had a heavy nosebleed after starting Mounjaro 2.5mg.
I had my first injection yesterday about 7pm and had a long nosebleed from 12am. Lasted just over an hour. It’s ok today but I’m now quite nervous about it all in case it happens again.

TricksyLiesmith · 23/09/2024 14:48

Well looks like I'm joining you tomorrow. Nervous but excited at the outcome. Hoping to lose 3 stone which I've battled with for
Most of life.
I exercise a lot but struggle with emotional eating and snacking .

Like others I'm trying to work out when best to start with potential side effects

ShiftAMountain · 23/09/2024 15:08

I just remembered Bake Off starts tomorrow. 90mins of watching cakes. This drug is about to be properly tested Grin

For those wanting to make some cheap and cheerful curried chicken broth:

One shallot or a small onion finely minced.
Half a small carrot, I like to cut into matchsticks.
A couple of finely minced garlic cloves.
A smidge of grated ginger.
1 tbsp curry powder of your choice.
A small chicken breast, thinly sliced.
1l of chicken stock.

Sauté shallot/onion in a small amount of oil or butter. I use a rapeseed oil spray. When it’s translucent, throw in the chicken and stir fry it until it’s sealed. Add the garlic, ginger, and curry powder and make sure everything gets properly coated. Pour your stock in, add the carrot sticks, and simmer for ten minutes or so.

You could add all manner of other veg if you wanted, this is just how I like it. If I have them, I’ll sometimes have some thinly sliced spring onion on top when I eat it.

I did my first dose yesterday evening. It was much easier than I expected. Barely felt the needle. Woke up to quite a bit of gas and like a previous poster my skin feels a bit raw all over and slight nausea but nothing to complain about really. I had some soup for lunch and didn't eat it all for no other reason that I just felt I'd had enough. Tbh that's a new sensation and don't know if that's down to the jab or just psychosomatic because I love food and am quite greedy, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.
It's so good to hear others experiences whilst on the same path. Keep up the good work everyone x

What about Saturday so you have the weekend to recover if any side effects?

Bellyblueboy · 23/09/2024 17:30

I have read that it takes a couple of days for maximum appetite suppressant to kick in - and weekends are my high risk snacking time! Driving myself mental trying to balance all the advice😂

Ok, for me it was straightaway! Mind you I'm on day 7 of my first small dose and still getting really good suppression (if along with some ongoing nausea) so maybe am sensitive to it- I don't know. I would plan for getting some symptoms / suppression from it straight away though, maybe then building over the next few days. I would leave it for a quiet spell perhaps

Snoozysu · 23/09/2024 18:00

I took my first jab last night, was a bit nervous but didn’t feel it at all.
Today had a low fat yogurt for breakfast, then out with a friend, just had a chai tea latte, then a chicken rice stir fry ( bag from Iceland) so about 800c in total.
Not had any issues.
Weigh at start is 14 st 6lb.
ideally want to lose 3 stone, done many diets in the past, last time was exalted and did lose but felt restricted and they no longer exist.
Good luck everyone.

I think it's interesting that lots of us had this same thought initially. It can't all be psychosomatic, surely? It's just that I don't feel any different except that my interest in eating more than I need to for sustainance has been dialled down.

What is this trickery that's meant I've eaten a wholemeal turkey and salad pitta and a child's portion (to me Grin) of cottage pie today and I am sat here perfectly satiated, if not a little full?

Had a really odd day today. Out on a customer site so made myself some overnight oats with a protein shake for breakfast. Had a banana and some plain pasta (100g) for lunch and I knew I was hungry, but I really didn't feel like eating so I forced myself to eat some mash and veggies and a sausage for my tea, topped off with almonds as a snack. All of today's portions have been half of what I'd normally eat. I've had stomach ache which I think is due to not eating enough, a felt a bit wobbly (which I think is due to the same thing), but really don't feel like eating.

All the above has come to 1250 calories.

I think my appetite suppression is waining a a bit today, my first jab was on Friday. Not sure if it's medication or will power

Marble02031 · 23/09/2024 18:50

I had my first jab Saturday, I only ate 800 calories that day. I had a rough nights sleep Saturday I woke up feeling sick and had the worst acid reflux it was burning my throat. I took some omeprazole and gaviscon which helped. Yesterday I ate 1100 calories which was 3 meals. I felt hungry at lunch time, dinner time etc but I ate a reasonable meal and felt full.

Today was my office day and I took a protein shake which is my usual work breakfast, I had a wrap and fruit for lunch and I just ate a fish pie. 1500 calories today and I worked out and now I feel great. Normally after a workout I would have binged and still be binge eating all evening. I haven't felt like that today.

My life has been consumed by food for years now and to not be thinking about it all day everyday is strange.

FelicityBeedle · 23/09/2024 19:41

I think the oddest sensation for me is knowing I’m hungry and I’ve not eaten for 7 hours (unheard of!) but my stomach isn’t rumbling or feeling empty, but somehow if I think about it I know I’m hungry?

holycow1 · 23/09/2024 20:01

Hi all, I've been lurking quietly in the background while waiting to start my jabs. It's been really uplifting reading all your thoughts and feeling the solidarity. I can relate to so much of it.

Well I just had my first jab a couple of hours ago and am feeling....a bit odd. Not bad odd, just different. No desire to snack, but maybe that's just because I'm anticipating side effects kicking in. Let's see what the morning brings!

MargaretElsie · 23/09/2024 20:41

I am hungry and my next shot is due on Thursday. Does that mean it's wearing off....?

Mumoftwo36 · 23/09/2024 20:47

Just did my first jab. I was so so nervous but it was absolutely fine. Luckily still a bit numb from my c section a year ago so basically didn't feel it at all. Love hearing about all your updates. I really hope we can all share our amazing weight losses at the end of the year.

ShiftAMountain · 24/09/2024 07:53

I've woken up this morning (Day 4) and my hunger has roared back into life. Looks like I'll be under my own steam until my next shot. 😬

Usually when hungry eating a small amount will have me feeling full again.
So have a good protein breakfast and hopefully that'll set you up for another good food day.
Good luck.

I'm starting this week, currently 5ft 3 and 12st 6. I have pcos and have struggled for the last 5 years to lose any weight so hoping this will be the kick-start I need 🙏

TricksyLiesmith · 24/09/2024 09:12

So my first delivery arrives today. I'm
Having a wobble about taking it now .
It's not the injection - I'm fine with that but the potential horrible side effects. The realisation that I'm injecting myself which potentially could make me feel very ill . How has my uncontrolled eating come to this ?
How has it been realistically for new starters? Has anyone regretted it ?
