Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

Ahh was hoping to start sunday but medexpress have just emailed and said they have so many orders there is a big delay in approving…….looks like I’ll be an October starter….

We're all quite new into it @TricksyLiesmith but your wobbles mirror mine just before I did my first dose. In fact, after I did it, I had a little cry on the toilet (😂) because of the same throught 'is this what it has come to?'.

But I shook myself out of it, and so far have not regretted it. In fact, as the days have gone on, despite a few milder side effects, I am starting to see the potential of this treatment and get excited about what it might mean for my future.

I've felt exactly the same. Glad I've found my tribe. Been all over the place. Why has it come to this...? Why do I have no will power to do this without...? Why can all my friends cope without medical input...? Without the financial burden..?

but you know what, I was about to reply and say stop being too hard on yourself. And that's made me well up because I am being too hard on myself too. The fact you are here and doing something about it makes you a superstar!

I've joined a Facebook page and it has a lot of success stories and that's helped.

I also weirdly feel better about it after I injected than before. There's no going back - decision made.

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/09/2024 10:12

I find it helpful just to think of it as a health problem, we would get treated for say diabetes or depression right? I have had depression for years and I know that anti-ds plus say swimming can help with that, maybe for obesity it's this plus healthy eating, it goes hand in hand.

TricksyLiesmith · 24/09/2024 10:52

Thank you all for support . I've administered first dose which was so easy . Hands were a bit wobbly doing it !

Anyway here we go. Let's see what happens and if I can break patterns

JustWalkingTheDogs · 24/09/2024 11:18

I've found if I have a smoothie, whichinc protein powder, banana, natural yogurt and milk, first thing it helps set me up for the day.

I'm not usually a breakfast person but found that I do want to eat first thing (probably because my stomach is empty- which is new). But I then only need a very light lunch and a small tea. If I skip the smoothie I feel rough all day.

Massivemonstera · 24/09/2024 11:56

Day 4 for me and hunger is back 😟

ShiftAMountain · 24/09/2024 13:54

I woke up ravenous but then got on with my day and before I knew it, it was gone lunchtime. I've eaten a wholemeal cheese and salad pitta and that seems to have done the trick - compare to my old self that would have had two of those and still hankered after cake of some sort. So I guess I am still having some affect afterall, even if I feel hungry?

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/09/2024 14:08

Second dose here today and going Ok. Did straightaway feel a bit nauseous though and have not wanted much to eat since. had a protein drink (huel) which was nice and cold and that was OK.

HappyShortFuse · 24/09/2024 14:18

Here's a wee update from me: I had my first Jab last Thursday night, and I feel nothing has changed. There have been no symptoms and no changes in eating wants or abilities. I can't lie—I'm a little disappointed and a bit jealous, but this is a marathon, not a sprint, and everyone is different.

But I'm also trying to eat healthy and up my veg intake and eat less junk this week - so either way I'm trying.

I ordered some extra needle points from here: www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-5mm-pack-of-100. I haven't used one yet, but I double-checked, and they are compatible.

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/09/2024 14:27

Happy maybe it's good to not have the nausea and headaches though, it might be working behind the scenes? Or maybe the 5 dose will start to work more.

MonkeyPuddle · 24/09/2024 14:29

I’m on day 6. Woke up hungry, had a meal replacement shake and that filled me up, sarnie for lunch, again wasn’t hungry when I finished.

had a wobble this afternoon, found myself opening the cupboards and having a look for something to eat. Had a conversation with myself about how I’ve been good, deserve a treat. Which is bollcoks, I don’t need food as a treat. Managed to talk myself into having a nice coffee and the urge to binge passed.

jab in the morning.

shotgitreal · 24/09/2024 15:12

After having a cold all weekend I finally took my first dose today. I was so nervous doing it but it was actually so easy and I didn't feel a thing. Felt a bit strange afterwards, like a bit light headed and on edge, but I don't know if that is just in my head. I'm feeling positive though. I have taken the first step!!

Good to see those of you who are a week or two in are still feeling positive. I wonder how long it will be before it just becomes a normal thing, I feel like I'm obsessed with all thing Mounjaro, weight loss and food at the minute!

Mumoftwo36 · 24/09/2024 15:19

Update from me on day one: didn't eat lunch until 2:30 and still wasn't hungry at that point. Didn't have breakfast. So the first jab has defo worked for me. I'm thinking of skipping breakfast and doing brunch at around 11:30/midday when kids eat their lunch. It's so weird but it basically gives you will power. Only day one for me though sure the impact will fade throughout the week. It is weird though.

Darkflames · 24/09/2024 15:57

On day 5 I was ravenous and thought the injection had worn off - I ate a few snack before dinner. The next day my appetite was suppressed again.
I thought it had worn off completely but it hadn’t.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 24/09/2024 16:38

It’s so lovely reading about everyone’s experiences on this medication and it makes me feel a part of a little community where we’re all sharing thoughts that most of the time are kept to ourselves. Good luck everyone.
I’ve just had my second injection and had a bit of a panic and got confused with where I twist the pen to. The instructions say to twist it until 1 appears in the window which I did but it then says 1 is for a full 5ml dose. I injected until the 1 had gone back to 0 but suddenly feel anxious that I’ve had either too much or too little for the second week? Can anyone please put my mind at rest.

ShiftAMountain · 24/09/2024 16:45

Is it a 2.5mg pen? If so then twisting to 1 gives you 2.5mg.

As far as I know, all the dosage pens have the same volume of liquid per dose, it's just the concentration that differs. So the 5ml probably refers to that?

OP posts:
ShiftAMountain · 24/09/2024 16:46

In fact, I just found this which confirms it's always 0.5ml per dose:

Mounjaro is available in the following strengths:
2.5 milligrams (mg) per 0.5 milliliter (mL)
5 mg/0.5 mL
7.5 mg/0.5 mL
10 mg/0.5 mL
12.5 mg/0.5 mL
15 mg/0.5 mL

Mydoghealsmyheart · 24/09/2024 16:50

Thank you so much, that’s such a relief. I’m assuming then that I only ever twist the pen to 1 regardless of the medication strength. That’s doable and seems straightforward.

MonkeyPuddle · 24/09/2024 17:05

Yeah the kwikpens are made so you don’t have to think about the dose, just crank it to 1 and inject. We use them at work for diabetic patients and they have variable doses, but as long as the line matches where the 1 is and the dose on the pen is what you are expecting then you will have injected the right dose.

Me too, I'd eat a healthy lunch then crave something sweet. I had a salad with some ham today, and that's all I had, I'd normally have walked around the kitchen to find something sweet to eat.

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/09/2024 17:23

I've been feeling grotty all afternoon after the second dose this morning, had diarrhoea, so didn't go out. Hoping don't need to stop due to side effects, as otherwise it seems to be working well.

Me too, I've replaced food addiction with Mounjaro addiction! 😆

Difford · 24/09/2024 18:20

I thought the suppression might be wearing off a bit today (first dose was friday) but I've just made cakes for a bake sale without eating any of the ingredients/mixture. That's a definite win!
