Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

@VQ1970 hi there.

Im happy to help. I don’t live in the Uk. I’m in the Middle East and I source my pens from a genuine medical clinic in Dubai who then have it sent from the UK for me. The pharmacy they use is My London Pharmacy and it’s delivered by DHL Express. It’s a great service and another thing is that the pens are the same price regardless of the strength.

Since I’ve started Mounjaro I believe it’s now available where I am but it’s about 400 pounds per month and the first appt you have includes a consultation with an endocrinologist.

Re support - my son in law is a family physician with a special interest in obesity and preventative medicine and he’s supporting me along with my personal trainer. It’s just something they do together for people at the gym who’ve lost their way and need help to get back on the right road again. I feel blessed to have them in my life.

If you are in the Middle East I’ll IM you my location.

Ah thanks for the response AnnieMcFanny I'm not in the middle east but in the Channel Islands. I tried ordering online from a couple of the companies mentioned but they didn't like my address - I wasn't surprised, we often have difficulty getting things shipped to us.

My surgery has now started it on private prescription at a cost of £120 for the jab plus extended appointment costs (we pay for our doctors visits here) hence it being close to £300 per month but I'm willing to try it if the doctor is happy to prescribe it. I'm seeing her tomorrow so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

@10storeylovesong I’m week 3 and by day 3 I was starving. Although weirdly I am managing ok eating small healthy amounts. Today I’ve had a slice of toast, some chicken and coleslaw and a reduced fat prawn cocktail and I feel ok. I’m definitely going to do 2.5mg + the bonus dose on Sunday though to get near to the 5mg

I found week 3 harder as well. I do my dose on the Wednesday and by Sunday I felt it had worn off. I stayed good though and didn’t raid the cupboards but I wanted to!

I'm at the end of week 3 and have lost no weight in the last 2 weeks, week 1 was 5lb.

I'm finding it frustrating as I really don't believe I can be eating over calories. My meals are small and I'm not snacking at all. Compared to my previous eating habits the weight should be falling off!
I really didn't want to have to count calories as it's a real pain weighing food out etc. I will be back at the gym next week but think I will actually have to eat more on those days so I don't end up passing out as some days I can barely stomach anything.

Just ordered my 5mg pen. One more week on 2.5

Theredjellybean · 10/10/2024 08:55

@Baconking ..it would be worth counting calories scrupulously for a week to see ...most people wildly underestimate the calories they eat and crucially drink. Don't forget every splash of milk in tea etc
I'm in week 5 and didn't want to go up to 5 mg as was getting good result on 2.5 but did notice a wearing off by day 5 of last week.
So I went to 3.75....and omg 😳...I literally have not felt hungry , not wanted to eat ...did go out last night and had some olives instead of a starter and half my small main course ( grouse so not a big bird ). I did have two glasses of wine
Well the effects have been nausea and diarrhea all morning!
Definitely not eating today.....
Think I'll go back to 2.5 mg...
Anyone else struggling with side effects at higher than 2.5?

holycow1 · 10/10/2024 09:29

I'm now mid-way through my third week, and whilst the weight loss seems to have slowed since my first week I am definitely noticing a difference in other ways - probably because I've stopped filling my body with so much sugar and salt. I'm feeling lighter on my feet and my joints aren't aching any more - honestly I used to hobble like an old woman when getting out of bed in the morning because my knees hurt so much, but that's gone entirely. My face is looking slimmer and my clothes are fitting me better.

These early changes have given me the boost that I need to continue with it, and I'm pretty confident that the weight loss will start to happen properly once I progress through the different doses. Looking forward to changing to the 5mg soon, but also bracing myself for the side effects to start kicking in (so far they've been minimal).

I wish I had the willpower to do this on my own, but the reality is it's taken me years of trying and failing to get to this point. This medication is such a game changer.

AussieMum135 · 10/10/2024 09:48

I'm midway through week 2. Has anyone else noticed skin sensitivity? For the last two days I've noticed my normal eye cream, which I've been using for years, has started to burn my skin. Also my skin in general is so dry.

Not really sure if this is related or just my skin adjusting to a change in season.

AnnieMcFanny · 10/10/2024 09:52

Also my skin in general is so dry

I asked someone at home to give my back a really good scratch the other day. I even took my tshirt and bra off. The first thing they said was - your skin is so dry. It’s not usually and I’m definitely a bit itchy at various times throughout the day and night now.

i don’t know why I’ve got to week 7 before experiencing side effects. I’m still having pretty grim acid reflux that started this week and I’m starting Omaprezole today. It’s either the Mounjaro or my new Iron tablets that I e needed periodically since I had my knee replaced a year ago.

Sunbeamturtle · 10/10/2024 10:14

I was going to post to say my skin is looking great - 3 weeks in!

ShiftAMountain · 10/10/2024 10:27

I have a bit of acid reflux too - have stocked up on Gaviscon to keep it at bay.

My skin is fine but my eyes are quite dry and I got some eye drops to help. Not sure if that's the jab or the time of year, though.

I had a sneaky mid week weigh this morning and I’ve lost around 1-2lbs this week, so much less than last week but I reminded myself that 2lbs a week is a sustainable loss and what I was actually aiming for before I started.

One thing I was wondering - I’ve knocked about 3-400 (or more!) calories a day off my “before” intake, so will my metabolism adjust to this new intake, and will I have to eat less and less to continue losing? I don’t really want to eat less than I am now, it feels healthy and sustainable but dropping more would really mean missing out on the amount of protein etc that I need to maintain muscle. I’ve heard before about bodies entering “starvation mode” but is this debunked now?

Hi, I’ve just been prescribed Omeprazole. It’s just grim.

Mumoftwo36 · 10/10/2024 11:39

Hello all.

I thought I would touch base again. You might remember me as the girl who was very sick after her first dose. Well by day 7/8 I could look at food again and even managed to eat some. So I decided on day 8 to take half a dose. I've been taking half a dose every 4 days ever since but think I might actually changed to half a dose every 7 days. Yesterday I could only eat one piece of toast and a few mouthfuls of dinner. Most days have been ok though - suppression but not to the point of not being able to eat or throwing up. I'm obviously very sensitive to it.

Ive loved catching up on everyone's weight loss - well done - you've all done amazing.

chickenpieandchips · 10/10/2024 13:56

So I've just done injection 4. I reordered on med express on Tuesday, no further questions asked and got my parcel today.
Not really feeling it anymore but then not bingeing so that's a win! But maybe if I eat too much I would feel full. Cost is keeping me on the straight and narrow.

Cocoaone · 10/10/2024 14:38

@Mumoftwo36 - you are similar to me!

Finding it extremely hard to eat enough calories. I'm thinking of having a half dose for Jab 3 to see how that goes.

Whilst the suppression and fullness is great, I don't want to struggle to eat a small meal with my family or when out with friends etc. and I want to have enough energy to exercise.

I'm wk 2 day 6 today and down 8.8lbs. I've found it a bit easier to eat more the last few days as the second jab starts to wear off, so hopefully a half dose will be just enough for me.

ShiftAMountain · 10/10/2024 15:06

Thanks @Mumoftwo36 - I think it's really helpful to have a variety of experiences on here because it heps dillute the experiences of some of the rest of us that have had an easier time. i.e. it helps give a more realistic view of the range of experiences.

A half dose sounds like a good thing to try.

My loss has slowed a bit now after the first week or two but I wonder if that was 'water weight' at the start, perhaps? I'm reminding myself I am in this for the long haul, I am a bit worried about too fast loos causing something like gallstones (I had had lots of previous abdominal surgery for something unrelated but been told that future surgery would be tricky due to adhesions so want to avoid any further surgical problems if at all possible.

It's interesting seeing others reactions - went for lunch today with MIL and we shared a sandwich, but she wanted to have cake after than and I didn't fancy any. She was most 'concerned' asking if I was Ok etc, I said I was fine just not really hungry. I mean it's hardly like I look like I'm eating away and need cake!

Pashazade · 10/10/2024 16:12

Day 2 of week 3. Suppression seems a bit less but I couldn't eat a full lunch, although had a hot chocolate for breakfast a few hours earlier. Seeing what weight loss looks like come Saturday then will decide whether to go up. I know 2lbs a week would be sensible, so far lost 8.8lbs but things seem to have slowed down. I thought I would eat all of much lunch but I suddenly hit a wall of feeling full, so that's a good thing.

FelicityBeedle · 10/10/2024 19:17

Is dropping a BMI category a Non scale victory or a scale victory? Anyway I’m no longer morbidly obese having been borderline before!

Cocoaone · 10/10/2024 20:28

Well done @FelicityBeedle - that's amazing!

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/10/2024 20:35

I too have moved from the morbidly obese to the lesser one, which is a relief.

MounjaroHereICome · 10/10/2024 20:45

Lost 1kg (2.2lbs) on my 3rd week of 2.5mg. Now on my 4th jab. Already ordered and got my 5mg pen waiting in the fridge.

Total lost in 3 weeks is 5kg (11lbs). 25kg to go!

Happy to lose steadily even if not much because I'm not necessarily doing anything that I wasn't doing before besides much less/sometimes no snacking (because I just can't eat it or don't feel like it) and smaller portions of my meal (physically can't eat much in one sitting. It's like a certain cut off point and I'm done). MJ has just made it easy to do all that now so I'm losing without struggling like I used to when I tried to do these things on my own steam.

Mumoftwo36 · 10/10/2024 20:46

I am 2 weeks 3 days in. I lost 9 pounds in the first 5 days which was mental and way too much. I then stalled for week two, and actually put a few pounds back on - which was fine. I am now at a total loss of 11 pounds gone from 14.2 to 13.5. I actaully don't want to loose this quickly and would rather feel like the situation was more under my control - allow me to eat a normal amount if I want to - meals out or Sunday lunch with family etc. I do feel like half a dose works for me. I'm not hungry but I can eat. @Cocoaone

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/10/2024 20:46

I got a bundle of 3 X 5mg, so hope I get on ok with it!

peonym · 10/10/2024 21:29

I love to see some NSVs!

I have also exited morbidly obese, now just seriously obese.. every little helps!

I have also realised today my jeans feel a little looser so that's good.

Haven't been eating lots. Reached for the crisps earlier but only had 1 bag so that's a win.

I did have a bit of a dodgy tummy today (week 3 day 2) but could have just been a coincidence. Bit of a low grade headache the past few days too. I would love to lose 3lbs a week for a while going forward, considering I've a heck of a lot left to lose still.
