Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

I have to fly next week for work - just a short flight. I always hate that feeling of claustrophibia from tight seats and the worry that the person next to you might feel hard done by having to sit there.

I'm going to be very grateful for the bit of weight I've lost, I also hope this is the last time I ever fly and my weight is even something I think about before I go but that led me to wonder: at what weight would I/you fly without even thinking about it?

Me too 10.

I'm on my 3rd week and after a 4lb loss in the first week and a 1lb loss in the second, it's looking likely I may not lose any, and even put weight on this week Confused

It's so frustrating as I'm counting calories and keeping it within a good range.

It's lovely to see all the big loses, but I do feel a bit cheated as I'm not seeing much at all. Very little appetite suppression and my will power is waning because of my disappointment

Darkflames · 09/10/2024 10:05

@10storeylovesong I’ve taken 4 injections now. Some days I’ve definitely felt quite hungry for a day or two and eaten more than the other days then the suppression has kicked back in.
I lost a lot of weight the first couple of weeks and it’s has definitely slowed down now, I’m hoping going up to 5mg will get me going again.
I’m trusting in the process and thinking about long term - I try not to weigh to often and look at my weight loss overall rather than weekly/daily losses.

@ShiftAMountain I find flying doesn't bother me much currently, I'm a size 20. The seats can occasionally be a little snug but belts always go round albeit without much to spare. I'm thinking once I'm down to a 16 that will be my not give it a second thought size.

For me it’s size 18. I am flying in December and if I carry on with Mounjaro should be a size 16/18 by then.

I flew at size 20 / 22and felt uncomfortable the entire time, it was awful stressing about space and seatbelts - especially as I had my son on my knee every home too!

I flew more recently at a (large) size 18 and felt a little better but truly think it would be a size 16 for me.

Hi, I've just taken my 4th 2.5mg dose. Im nervous about moving up to 5mg as I keep reading people had no suppression on 5mg. Can anyone share some positive stories? X

RandomID · 09/10/2024 13:10

I’m not sure any of us have hit 5mg yet, Kitten. This weekend will be my first 5mg dose.

I'm week 3 of 5 and I thought I had less suppression to start with, but now I'm on 3rd dose it's back.. go for it.

ShiftAMountain · 09/10/2024 13:29

Thanks to those that replied re flying. I agree that 16 is probably the stage at which I'll stop considering my weight when I fly. I am quite tall (5, 8) but a lot of my height coems from my legs which means I naturally feel pretty cramped in those spaces anyway.

It'll be fine - I am just looking forward to the day it's more than just 'fine' Smile

What Mounjaro has taught me is that I was very close to being able to lose weight the generally acceptable way but my mental exhaustion due to trauma meant I just didn’t have the staying power to do it. I can with mounjaro though.

I also think that people don’t understand that for most people it doesn’t make them lose loads of weight every week. It is actually the same kind of weight loss you’d have if you were able to do it under your own steam.

Id probably be considered by some to be a slow loser but Im doing exactly what the makers have said I should be doing weight loss wise and exactly what my personal trainer has always suggested to me was a good weight loss - 1 to 2 pounds weekly.

Oh and I do laugh at the comments regarding spend the money on the gym instead 🤣. For last two years I’ve been paying 50 pounds a session for PT and my mounjaro costs me 300 pounds per month because of where I live. So about 800 pounds per month all in. The gym did great for my overall fitness but it just couldn’t work its magic on my traimatised/exhausted mental health

Im very happy and Mounjaro is the best thing I’ve done for myself this year.

Hi AnnieMcFanny I'm hoping to start mounjaro soon and will be facing similar monthly costs - are you getting it on prescription through your surgery? Do you live in G? That's my plan and have my first appointment with the doctor tomorrow. If it is through the doctor, have you found it beneficial having that support? Thanks.

AnnieMcFanny · 09/10/2024 14:52

@VQ1970 hi there.

Im happy to help. I don’t live in the Uk. I’m in the Middle East and I source my pens from a genuine medical clinic in Dubai who then have it sent from the UK for me. The pharmacy they use is My London Pharmacy and it’s delivered by DHL Express. It’s a great service and another thing is that the pens are the same price regardless of the strength.

Since I’ve started Mounjaro I believe it’s now available where I am but it’s about 400 pounds per month and the first appt you have includes a consultation with an endocrinologist.

Re support - my son in law is a family physician with a special interest in obesity and preventative medicine and he’s supporting me along with my personal trainer. It’s just something they do together for people at the gym who’ve lost their way and need help to get back on the right road again. I feel blessed to have them in my life.

If you are in the Middle East I’ll IM you my location.

Week 3 start - 3rd 2.5 mg dose.

Just about to do my 3rd dose, had slightly less food suppression today and last night. I had a whole 4 digestive biscuits last night (normally it’s the pack in one night) and 2 at work today with a brew. But I’m ok with that.

Week 2 I have lost 4lbs 2oz.
Week 1 was 9lbs

I’m 5’11” and started at just over 19st. I’m a size 20 bottom and 18 top.

I will say week 1 I had a very bad, heavy and prolonged period. That generally gives me a 4 or 5 lb weigh gain.

I have suspected Covid and didn’t leave bed for 3 days last week or eat anything.

I am smothered with a cold right now.

I have done more walking and movement than normal but no gym or swimming yet as due to period/illness I’m barely functioning.

Will be ordering the 5mg pen soon but intending to build up to 5mg depending on next two weeks.

Edit: sorry @Pashazade no idea why or how I quoted you.

Gingerela · 09/10/2024 20:12

@TheCatterall what a fab loss. Especially with having COVID. I did notice a bit more hunger creeping in at the end of wk2 but don't know if it was because I barely ate with COVID too for a few days.

Can I ask, is anyone planning on doing the 5th dose? And if you are, will you be doing it with the pen break or the syringe method. I'm not sure what to do about it?

I'm adding it to the 4th dose to make 5mg, think I am ready to move up now.

ShiftAMountain · 09/10/2024 20:20

@Gingerela I am defo doing the 5th dose but am not sure how yet. I think I'm going to try a syringe so that I can see how much is left and perhaps do a slightly bigger dose if there is enough liquid. As a way to bridge the gap a little bit to 5mg, which is my next pen.

Quite pleased with my eating today, I think I do better at work than at home.
10am-2 weetabix with semi skimmed (200kcal ish)

3pm- Homemade tomato and red pepper soup with two slices of bread and a very thin layer of butter and a Pepsi max (450kcal ish)

4pm a single frazzle

The soup is made with homemade chicken stock so very nutritious.

I got home twenty minutes ago and I’m contemplating two scrambled eggs or more soup. I do drink tea with milk and sugar through the day so I know that adds a fair few calories

Orangesandlemons77 · 09/10/2024 20:46

I also had two weetabix for breakfast, an apple mid morning and early pm a purition shake with almond milk and blueberries, then a vegan ready meal for dinner and one of those little coconut choc pots. Several coffees with semi skimmed milk.

Is the alternative just to try to squeeze past the 1 marker on the last dose? I see people talking about a "hard twist"!

I have ordered my 5mg pen but would also like to do a bridge if possible. Not due to take 5mg for 2 weeks!

ShiftAMountain · 09/10/2024 21:32

I am not sure the pen will go past the 1 and the curved end of the pen means the plunger will never get all the liquid out, I don't think.

But there does seem to be enough to get a full extra dose out with the hard twist method.

I think you need a syringe to get out more than a full dose - assuming there is the liquid left for that which many seem to think there will be.

Thank you for the reply. I’d much prefer to stay at the lower dose but I can already feel the appetite increasing however I haven’t given in so it’s a good test of willpower.

Bellyblueboy · 09/10/2024 22:13

Just completed week 2 and taking third shot tomorrow.

I have lost 7lbs in two weeks which I know isn’t what some have managed but I am really pleased. My clothes fit a little bit better already.

side effects and been dull headaches and fatigue. But nothing I can’t manage. The fatigue has actually been quite nice as I have had amazing sleep😊.

Sunbeamturtle · 09/10/2024 22:14

@10storeylovesong I’m week 3 and by day 3 I was starving. Although weirdly I am managing ok eating small healthy amounts. Today I’ve had a slice of toast, some chicken and coleslaw and a reduced fat prawn cocktail and I feel ok. I’m definitely going to do 2.5mg + the bonus dose on Sunday though to get near to the 5mg
