Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

My date was a bust - didn’t fancy him at all.. but he was nice and bought me some tapas I was craving. I just had chicken skewers and salad and a bit of his chilli nachos. It sat in my stomach like a rock and I felt a bit ill tbh. I was glad to get home.

I had planned to bring my jab forward a day, which would be today. Not sure yet.

No weight loss last few days but I feel like I am bloated and what’s going in, isn’t coming out again that much at the moment. Water included.

End of week 2 for me and no losses at all. Trying not to let it impact my motivation. 4lbs In total.

I've been sticking to 1100 to 1300 calories a day and tracking these in an app so I know I'm logging correctly Confused

I haven't lost in week 2 either.

I'm pretty surprised as I've felt a bit off all week and also had a cold so I haven't been eating much.

I need to force myself to eat really and ensure I'm getting more protein to work on future eating habits after my as currently I'm just not wanting anything most of the time

You calorie intake is pretty low and mine has been too so maybe that's why we haven't lost

ShiftAMountain · 04/10/2024 08:44

Week 2 - 4lbs lost (10lbs total so far).

But I learned a lesson last night. The day was busy and when I got a rare evening to myself I realised I'd hardly eaten. Steak in the fridge and some garlic prawns so I made up a BIG surf and turf salad - which I thoroughly enjoyed. But, by heck, did all that meat weight heavy on me. I've been doing garlicky burps all night and still feel absolutely stuffed full this morning. Someone upthread mentioned food laying like a rock in their stomach and that's what it feels like. Lesson learned: that's too much food and too much meat!

I made the dog do an extra long walk this morning which helped a bit. But now we're back, I think he might have a UTI so feel a bit guilty for making him walk so far Sad

Sorry for those without losses. I definitely think things like colds (or even minor infections that don't have any other symptoms) cause inflammation that causes water retention - meaning you are likely just hanging onto some extra water temporarily.

Brilliant loss @ShiftAMountain

Happy Friday all. I've a big lunch out today so slightly nervous but hoping tostay sensible and worst case scenario eat a much more limited dinner if I happen to overindulge. Trying to be good this weekend, would love to lose a decent amount this week to kickstart it.

Ozgirl75 · 04/10/2024 10:48

Day 6 for me and I have felt a bit hungrier but I’ve tried to be “mindful” when I eat so eating slowly, stopping when I’m full etc. We normally have Friday night pizza and then I normally follow this up with some chocolate or ice cream but I ate some pizza and then I was done. I feel full, although not unpleasantly but no desire for anything else.
Second jab tomorrow night and im going to do a weigh in the morning.

I can understand how disheartening it can be not to lose, but I do think our bodies tend to adapt to the fewer calories and also it probably falls off more in the first week. Try to look at it as a loss over a month rather than a week and also, it’s better to stay the same than to gain.

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 11:19

Isn't 5mg meant to be the clinical dose, might be that 2.5 is just not working yet.

KitsyWitsy · 04/10/2024 11:46

Took my body measurements with my new renpho measuring tape. God I’m a marketer’s dream…. Anyway.. I was very impressed with it.

couldn’t finish my porridge and can’t face lunch. I am due my jab tomorrow so it’s pretty good so far. I’m also t2d and I feel amazing with my blood sugar. I haven’t checked it but I feel great.

So happy to have found this thread, hi everyone. I took dose 3 yesterday and am slowly adjusting as I've had a few side effects (mainly constipation and tummy ache). The first week was astonishing. No food interference at all and most days I had to remind myself to eat. Week two and the effects didn't seem to last as long. I was regularly hungry again by day 4, although I mostly stayed on top of it (it didn't help that one of the kids had to make muffins in DT on Monday but there are still some left which is a real win as ordinarily I'd be at them relentlessly), and I know i have made healthier choices overall than normal. So far, 4lbs down.
If I can sustain around 2lbs a week, that'll be quite a decent drop by Christmas. Slow and steady, that's me! I think I was kind of picturing a miracle overnight transformation stupidly, but I am feeling more positive than I have for a long time though. I managed to lose 3st something on Slimming World a couple of years ago. Took forever and so much commitment to shed it, but lightning speed to put it back on. This is a game changer. Looking back at the SW days, food was the focal point of everything I did and thought about, and i am so relieved that mentally, I am released from the relentless cycle of constantly thinking about eating. I'm definitely going up to 5mg next order. Third time doing the actual injection was easier too. I put the needle in much more slowly and couldn't actually feel a thing. Here's to a good week everyone x

ShiftAMountain · 04/10/2024 12:40

Hi @Pbelle !

Interesting you say about going to 5mg next time. I've been wondering myself what I'm going to do. I'm 2 weeks in, so I've probably got about another week or so to decide.

Anyone else had any thoughts about their next step?

OP posts:
Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 12:42

I was going to stay on 2.5, but this week brought my dose early and now thinking of doing 5mg, but possibly splitting the dose to get 2 X 2.5 doses, to minimise side effects and prevent having to have doses early, if that makes sense. have just ordered a pack of 5mg pens as was a bit cheaper, and waiting for approval.

MounjaroHereICome · 04/10/2024 12:50

I'm going to be ordering my second pen soon and I'll definitely be going up to 5mg so the suppression lasts for more days (hopefully).

Snoozysu · 04/10/2024 13:07

I too can’t decide, am doing ok re side effects( none to speak of) but am starting to feel ready for my meals, rather than having to think about it.
I will decide early next week. Take the medication on Sunday so will see how I feel over the weekend and into next week.

Bellyblueboy · 04/10/2024 13:14

I took my second dose yesterday. I do occasionally get hungry at meal times, and I don’t experience the fullness that others have reported. I can finish a meal no problem!

I have lost 3lbs in my first week , which is less than others have reported but okay. Medexpress is already emailing me about my next order.

I am going to try and get 5 sets of injections out of this pen and then go up to 5mg. Hoping to be able to stick at 5mg for a few months.

ShiftAMountain · 04/10/2024 13:17

Yeah, I've defininitely got some food noise creeping back in earlier in the week. But I'm losing OK and don't find it hard to resist them.

The other night was cooking with some grated cheese and finding myself absent mindedly grabbing a few strands every few mins, to eat. To me, that was a sign that the drug didn't have such a strong hold of me as before.

Like @Snoozysu I was going to take my 3rd dose on Sunday and see how the first few days went next week and then decide for sure - but I am leaning towards going up to 5mg, after getting my 5th bonus dose out of the 2.5mg.

OP posts:
MounjaroHereICome · 04/10/2024 13:19

I hope to get my 5th bonus dose out too. I've ordered extra pen needles and hope the hard twist will work.

Snoozysu · 04/10/2024 13:26

Same here, will try for the extra dose, and probably move to the 5mg.

ShiftAMountain · 04/10/2024 13:33

I got some insulin needles in, just in case the hard twist doesn't work. God knows if I'll ever be brave enough to use them! 😂

OP posts:
Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 13:36

It's quite stressful this 'extra dose' thing isn't it.

MounjaroHereICome · 04/10/2024 13:39

I'm scared I'll never be able to use the insulin needles! I was only able to manage MJ because of the pen needles. Normal syringe? <faints>

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 13:49

I think the insulin needles kind of look like the pen needles? I haven't looked that closely yet. Maybe the hard twist and a fresh one needle would be best MounjarohereIcome

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 13:49

*pen needle

I'll be using the pen and hardtwist hopefully.

The insulin ones are like the normal syringes but tinier I guess. It's just the mechanism that takes me back to the normal syringes they use in hospitals. With the pen needles, I don't get to see the needle as such. The insulin ones are longer even if you insert at a 45 degree angle and don't have to use the whole length. It's just too much for me to do. Lol

It was hard enough trying the pen needle but because they turned out to be so easy and pain-free, I'm okay using them now even though I still get scared just before I inject. Lol

AussieMum135 · 04/10/2024 13:59

@MounjaroHereICome I am using the syringe rather than the pen ($50 cheaper!) and it is honestly ok. The needle is so tiny and thin and I honestly wouldn't have known it had happened if I wasn't doing it myself and looking! You can do it!
