The disapproval of these jabs is absolutely fascinating.

I’m just updating a lecture I give - 67% of the 276 women who died in pregnancy in the past 3 yrs were overweight or obese. That’s 171 women dead. From a preventable cause. Imagine if we can offer obese women these jabs for free for a year before they TTC. It will save lives.

How can anyone begrudge anyone these drugs.

CiderJabs · 16/10/2024 14:46

@Flapearedknave yes that's correct - 70lbs 😱

I am going to go and lie down in a dark room!

That's more than my whole daughter! (She's 10 haha)

It really is!

And that's a lot of women's lives to be saved right there!

@AgathaMystery its fascinating that stat is frightening. I work in a profession where we work with people who are disabled due to their weight and it’s heartbreaking that they get no help from the NHS and are literally told to eat less. I don’t want to go into the horrific circumstances that some people end up in but as a society we are failing some people.
I am really hoping that these medications change the medical and social approach to obesity and actually start helping people instead of blaming them for having character flaws.

Wonkypictureframe · 16/10/2024 15:13

It really does feel odd that a drug has come along that medical professionals in the field think is revolutionary, and will save lives (and give people better quality of life too) and so many people disapprove. It really lays bear how much moral disapproval is at the root of the fattist society we live in.

AgathaMystery · 16/10/2024 15:29

@SilverHeels we could probs talk all day on this!!

My neighbours are GPs and they did a lot of head shaking and ‘what are we doing’ hand wringing about these drugs when we last discussed them a few weeks ago. I worry that some primary care physicians (or, if I’m being honest, most) aren’t well versed in these drugs.

We need to view obesity as an endocrine disorder.

Oops my comment prob had forbidden words! If it doesn't come back I'll type a new one without them.

God that's a horrifying statistic. And the children dead alongside them, or born without a mother.

NCfor24 · 16/10/2024 15:51

I just unfriended someone on Facebook last night for their anti-Labour ranting disapproval of jabs for the overweight and unemployed.
I just can't deal with that thinking.
TBF we hold very different political views and she was an old school friend so not seen in over 25 years so no real loss, but I don't have to read those things and I don't have the energy to engage either, so it's a silent protest she won't notice!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/10/2024 16:25

@Moanranger I've lost a lot off my bottom half too and am really struggling to find a nice pair of black trousers for work (that don't cost a fortune).

My 2yr old son told me this morning that my clothes are too big for me and pointed to my trousers 😂. He did counter it by telling me my dress was lovely though (it was a blouse). Bless him. I must look awful if a 2yr old is noticing!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/10/2024 16:29

@NCfor24 yes that does sound positive for maintenance. If you can keep the treats occasional you shouldn't have much of a problem.

I have no willpower though so I can see my occasional treats becoming far too regular. I've eaten almost a full kilo jar of jelly beans this week which is an embarrassing amount 🫣. No weight gained so far though!

Exitstrategist · 16/10/2024 18:57

Just ordered a load of work trousers including black ones from H and M. Cheap and cheerful. Kept three pairs size 10!!!!! So anyone looking I recommend start there- returns are free too

CiderJabs · 16/10/2024 20:42

My post was deleted as I'm guessing I used forbidden words. I was just saying I find it amazing it seems to be socially acceptable to be fattist and throw abuse at people because of their size but if anything similar was said in relation to skin colour / race / faith it would more than likely result in a ban (hence my post was deleted!!!)

ObsidianTree · 16/10/2024 21:27

I think a majority of people that are anti weight loss drugs generally hate fat people. When you throw in that they are also unemployed and possibly unemployed because they are obese, and now are going to get weight loss drugs for free, it's too much for them to handle. Everyone they hate getting these things for free! I suppose a lot of them are outraged. I've not read any of the threads about it or looked at what dailymail has to say.

It's a great idea and I hope those that are in desperate need gets access to MJ.

Definitely shows that times are changing quickly. Since we started MJ it's gone from relatively unknown to now where the NHS is going to be rolling it out and already money being invested in UK into research on it.

I'm pleased that people will be able to get it on the nhs, it's been a life changer for me, luckily I can just about afford it. As a society we really need to stop telling people to just eat less, the condition of obesity is so much more complex than that. I'm finding that the same people who can't be pleased for me when I loose weight ( whatever method I use) are the same people that are scathing about the weight loss jabs. It all boils down to jealousy in my view.

Scalessayeek · 18/10/2024 07:51

Hi guys, I can't believe how many of you are in maintenance now! In an ideal world I'll lose another 30 pounds but we will see.

I've finally hit the 7 stone mark, 34% loss since I started. I've still only told 3 people as it was such a taboo thing when I started, now about 4 others in my social circle are taking it and I feel like I've come too far to tell the truth now. (To be honest they wouldn't be happy that they'd been praising me for months on my "natural" weight loss)

The plan is to spend a full year on the jab, then hopefully taper off and join Oushk maintenance at £20 incase it's needed in the future. If I can maintain without meds then eventually I will need a tummy tuck 😫

AgathaMystery · 18/10/2024 08:22

Just a quick one. I haven’t had time to post the syringes this week but I will tomorrow!!

KrankyKumquat · 18/10/2024 11:12

Milestone for me today - 4st loss, current weight 11st 4lbs. BMI now 23.4. Doesn't seem real.

I keep shifting my final goal weight. Now I'm so close, I'd like to get into the 10's and thinking 10st 7lb would be good. I'm on 10mg and have another 10mg pen waiting but recognise I do perhaps need to start eating a bit more, especially carbs, and slow down loss so might use clicks to get 7.5mg from it once I hit 10st 13. Weight loss on 10mg has been slightly over 2lb a week so shouldn't aim to continue like that I know, but god, it's tempting!

Wonkypictureframe · 18/10/2024 12:08

@KrankyKumquat woo!! Well done. Brilliant stuff.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 18/10/2024 14:11

Hi All, have stalled at 81kg so am persistently hanging around at a BMI just above 29. Having stalled before I know to trust the process, next week will be 8 months since I started on MJ and I have gone from a size 18/20 to a comfortable size 14, 17kg loss so am going to stick with the 12.5mg for now.
Slower loss than many but still very happy with what I've achived so far and will continue plodding on. Have had to give in and buy some clothes, was hoping to hold out til a size 12 but clothes were looking ridiculous. Am a large/14 in H&M, Matalan 14s are baggy on me now, just bought some high waisted wide leg jeans in a 14 and they look amazing on!
Also bought a puffer jacket, they never looked good on before but now I'm rocking it! Tops of thighs and bingo wings not looking too pretty but honestly it's worth it to feel the way I do when I look in the mirror now (and I'm only just not obese, still very overweight).
All the discussion in the media about these jabs is interesting - I do hope they will start to provide prescribers in the NHS weightloss clinics now (our local clinic doesn't have a prescriber but was happy to offer me to go on the waiting lit for bariatrics surgery). My blood pressure is still poor - so much for my obesity being the reason I'm hypertensive...
I fele very inspired by those of you who are further along in your journey, and am hopeful I might be able to start titrating down by the time I reach my 12 months MJ milestone.

AgathaMystery · 18/10/2024 14:27

@Everdecreasingcircumferences i too stalled at 81/82kg for about 6-8 weeks. Just couldn’t get past it. I’m past it now and in the top top end of overweight - it feels okay!!!

Moanranger · 18/10/2024 14:40

Not a stall here per se, but it took me 10 days to lose the latest pound....

KrankyKumquat · 18/10/2024 14:48

@Everdecreasingcircumferences
Ooh a puffer jacket! Always wanted one of them but avoided due to comparisons to the Michelin Man blimp. Is now on my goal weight rewards list along with Levi 501s.
