I've just started this morning after months of research. Feeling nervous but excited. Any other new or existing users want to join support and share successes?

Hi everyone. 1st injection (thigh) at 8pm on Sunday. Initial redness about the size of a 10p and slight itching that had disappeared by morning. Woke up with bad headache and nausea at 5.00am. I get migraines so have medication. I took one Sumatriptan. Both headache and nausea gone by lunchtime.
This morning another headache bad enough for medication, but no nausea.
Foodwise, there may be some suppression but I still have a healthy appetite ie I want to eat. I am having much smaller portions, emphasis on protein and veg and don’t feel hungry at all. Hoping I don’t wake up with a headache every day. 2 litres of water a day with electrolytes in. Maybe I need more but struggle drinking lots. I’m taking biotin and a multivitamin.

I have a big birthday coming up so plan on starting after that. I've been dithering for a while now and I'm not sure what company to go with. Do they all explain what to eat/avoid etc? I'm worried about protein shakes as these don't appeal and collagen. What's all that about?

StartingoutinSeptember · 03/09/2024 21:10

Hello! Can I join please? I started 31st August 😊 I can’t decide if I’m eating less or less hungry though! Going to read the thread, just wanted to join in first 😂

Peachesandfizz · 03/09/2024 21:12

Day 3 here. Noticed last night when I'd gone to bed that I felt a bit hungry but woke feeling nauseous. I find the nausea subsides by lunchtime. I'm having a protein milkshake mid-morning to keep me going. Sore skin has gone and I have no other side effects.
I'm struggling to get all my calories in, I know I need to be eating a bit more but I just don't want it. Plus I've not drunk any alcohol either which is massive for me as I'm a glass of wine (at least!) a night girl!
I've also noticed my mind seems clearer. I can't really explain it other than my mind feels less busy. 🤔

jollyfedup · 03/09/2024 21:14

I did my first injection last night. Where I did it in my stomach has bruised quite badly, maybe I pushed too hard?! Felt really nauseous this morning and bad reflux so skipped breakfast, protein bar and banana for lunch then an egg salad for dinner, and half a piece of toast. So weird not to feel hungry? I've drunk more than normal put done less wees which is a bit odd! My lower back aches but I have back problems anyway so could just be that. I am struggling with coming up what I need to eat in the day, I have bought some protein bars but what about breakfast- thinking maybe eggs? I have a crazy toddler so need quick and easy!

Protein shakes just to make sure you get nutrition when you don’t feel like eating but you need to ingest some calories. I’ve also bought Cup-a-Soups to help with that - just something liquidy that gets the necessary nutrients into you. I think collagen is due to the fact that some people report hair thinning/loss as a side effect but I don’t think it’s very common and people seem to take it preemptively.

I had a horrid experience last night - has anyone experienced similar?

I woke up suddenly with palpitations/racing heart. Then that calmed down and I lay back down but then got a very sudden wave of nausea. I got up and felt terribly faint, clammy and nauseous. That eventually passed and I wasn't actually sick. Feeling better this morning although I can tell I'm not right.

Does this sound like low blood sugar? I ate just under 1200 calories that day but my partner wonders whether my body is just dealing with getting used to having less accessible sugar to what it's used to.

Edited

How are you feeling today @simb? The nausea and light headness are side effects that I've had but not heart palpitations
Anything similar today??

Justasmallgless · 03/09/2024 21:35

A reminder to measure yourself as well as weighing on the weeks it doesn't show on the scales.

I've had a good day today. Didnt eat until 11.30, egg as a snack about 4pm and chicken with cauli rice and a smidge of homemade curry sauce.

Cals 1000 today and am full going to bed
Unheard of. And not craving something else.
This is the most bizarre thing in my 53 years and I have no idea how this magic pen works!

spinningisthebest · 03/09/2024 21:38

Pen arrives tomorrow. Very wary but have to do something about the covid weight which has never shifted. Scared about side effects - esp don't want my hair to thin- so hoping that's an Ozempic thing and am naturally super anxious so no doubt will magnify every twinge. Is there a consensus about what time of day to inject? So relieved this thread is here and so grateful to everyone on this section who has shared their experience

Me too!

StressedAndDepressed1 · 03/09/2024 20:18

I have just ordered.

Does Zava "processing" mean it has been approved?

'They' will be looking at the information you put in your form and assessing your situation and preparing a response. I use 'they' because a lot of it will be done by computer (do they meet the requirements, are there other contraindications, are they taking medicines that are not compatable with this etc.) But the response will be checked by a qualified human.

You will very soon get an email that tells you that you have beeen accepted.

EJA24 · 03/09/2024 21:53

Hi all, this has been been day 4 post first injection (did it 10pm Friday) and still no side effects. I initially thought meds had no effect but I definitely don’t have my usual appetite, infact I don’t have much interest in eating at all! Weird!!!

I’m enjoying small healthy planned meals with no urge to snack or ‘fall off the wagon’. Who even am I?!! Drinking minimum 2 litres of water a day with soluble electrolytes added morning and evening.

Baked sweet potatoes are my new go to - the only food that has excited me! If you haven’t tried them, do! Had some bad news at start of week and didn’t even consider my standard chocolatey response!! Bizarre!

Is everyone planning to weigh in weekly and update us all on progress? 🤞💜

BankHolidayReset · 03/09/2024 21:55

Another question. Do you use an app to track calories/weight? If so what do you use?

I think a weigh in would be a good idea, but wonder if weekly might be too frequent given other fluctuations in the month? Maybe fortnightly at most?

Totally with you on sweet potatoes - with a dash of sour cream - mmmmm!

SacreBleugh · 03/09/2024 21:57

Right. I'm going to go for it. I've read myself in circles.
Any advice about where is best to buy? Prices seem to be similar.

I think the 'eating' advice (from most suppliers) is very generic. This is not a diet plan, so it is often standard advice about low sugar, lower fat, wholegrain etc.

There is absoloutely no need for protein shakes.

Instead, one tablespoon of full fat greek yogurt, a few chopped berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, balckcurrents) and some chopped nuts: walnuts, pistachios, almonds...

Elephantino · 03/09/2024 22:04

@SacreBleugh I bought mines from Medexpress, it took over a week to arrive as they said there had been an influx of orders. It came with 4 needles/swabs and a sharps box

I got mine through Numan. Straightforward. I can send you a link which gives a discount.

And being honest, I would also get a discount on my next order.

Peachesandfizz · 03/09/2024 22:21

@SacreBleugh I spent ages deciding who to order from and I went for Zava in the end. Took a few days to be approved however once I had been the order was with me by midday the next day. Pen, lots of needles and a sharps bin all arrived cold packaged. Plus they have sent through a support pack via email too.

I have a 15% off code, just pop me a message if you decide to go with them. All suppliers seem to be pretty good from what I've seen though. Good luck!

This made me laugh, you're exactly 24 hours in front of me and you sound as amazed by the effects as I am!! And YES to baked sweet potatoes!

@SacreBleugh I went with medexpress who have been good and thorough with their prescribing. They also Sent me some spare needles for free that I asked for. If you would like a medexpress code send me a pm and I'll send it to you for £40 off.

@Justasmallgless I'm feeling much better thank you - not really had any side effects today and so I'm hoping it was just a blip. Fingers crossed I don't have a repeat of it tonight!

@Peachesandfizz I definitely feel like I'm more focused... I'm usually someone who hopes around between around 17 tasks, but today I repotted every one of my house plants and gave them all some tlc...I think the meds are quietening general noise for me not just the food noise!

A good eating day today I managed to get all my calories and nutrition in and I'm getting into a rhythm with when to eat and what. I upped my oaty/seedy/yoghurty breakfast which got me a good amount of protein, plus I've discovered just how good tofu is for protein! In general my meals always were healthy it was just the portion sizes and additional snacks that were a problem, so I really feel like I'm just going back to a natural reset. I'm feeling good!

Would love more meal ideas... going to do baked sweet potato with sour cream yumyum

Another question. Do you use an app to track calories/weight? If so what do you use?

I use Noom because I really like the psychology aspects and the layout of it. Plus it links to my Fitbit!
It's free at the moment (actually might have been £1) but I'll have to see how much it is normally after the trial 😬
I don't like how My Fitness Pal is set out nor any other calorie counting/food logging apps so might just have to bite the bullet!

Definitely weekly weigh in for me - posting will also help keep me on track and motivated! 😊

poppy80 · 04/09/2024 05:31

Great loss @Forevermermaid!

I felt fine yesterday, had a protein yoghurt, small lunch and only a little dinner as I had no appetite whatsoever. It's such a strange feeling to not be constantly hungry or thinking about food.

I am going to resist weighing myself until Saturday evening and then I have pen 2 on Sunday morning.

OP posts:
StartingoutinSeptember · 04/09/2024 06:34

So symptoms wise: I injected on Saturday evening and went straight to bed 😂 I had quite a sleepless night, unusually for me, then on Sunday I had a headache and felt like I was getting a cold. I still have cold symptoms (Wednesday) so either this is a very long side effect, or I actually have a cold!!

food/hunger wise: I’m eating around 12 noon, and having a salad, then something small for tea. I actually feel like this is what I’d eat most of the time anyway but I think the big change is no snacking. I’ve realised I can still eat if I’m not hungry so I need to watch that. Biggest change is probably no wine!

I was around 13st1 a few weeks ago and then went on holiday so probably higher than that starting weight. I don’t have scales yet as I was intending not to weigh but to go on clothes but now I think I’d like to weigh in!
