I've just started this morning after months of research. Feeling nervous but excited. Any other new or existing users want to join support and share successes?

I'm on week 2. I had some bad reflux the night of the second injection, and I had constipation towards the end of last week but honestly not been that bad. I've only lost 2lbs so far though.

I think I'm eating less (using MFP) but the biggest thing that has gone is that desperate craving for bad things - chocolate, ice cream, caffeine (pepsi) and nicotine (vapes!). As a result I'm feeling a lot calmer.

Week 3 of 2.5mg. No negative side effects and 4.5lbs lost.

I'm thinking about using the bonus dose to go up to 5mg next since I've had no issues so far. Has anyone else done that?

Im due my 4th dose of 2.5mg tonight and am planning to do this (if the hard twist works). 🤞Haven’t had any side effects so far and don’t feel like I’m getting any suppression for the last 3 days. That said, I’ve ’enjoyed’ testing out my own willpower to remind myself how amazing this drug actually is!

I’ve really not had the best week this and im wondering if this is pretty normal? Im at the end of week 2 of 2.5mg. First week i lost 7lbs. This week nothing at all. Not even 1/2lb
Ive had really good suppression, my calories have barely gone over 800 a day and i’ve worked out most days. No serious side effects either except a little constipation maybe but nothing major? Am i just one poo away from a whoosh or am i doing something wrong?? Please help i hope this doesnt carry on.

Your body is readjusting. You could be holding to water or anything. Everyone stalls at some point and 2.5ml does not have an impact for some people.

800 cals is very low if you are exercising. Maybe you should up them?

If it helps, I've had a similar week 2 (third jab tomorrow) - about 7lb off in week one and I think 2lb off in week two.

Considering my calories I would have thought it might be more - but 9lb in two weeks is still pretty decent.

This is a long haul thing, unlike a normal diet I don't feel like I'm walking a tightrope and just one 'fuckit moment' away from it all imploding. So that's good Grin

I know what you mean. I discussed this with the GP, moving to another but he said all the meds in that class cause weight gain / cravings so would probably be the same.

They said about metformin and put me on that to start with, I wonder if it could be used for maintenance. Not sure if it would do the trick though. It's a pain.

I'm already on Metformin for PCOS... everything is just difficult. That's why I want this to help and use it as an aid. I won't ever be free of the cravings minus meds but hopefully I can learn to control better.

I'm wanting to start TTC next year, so trying to get everything in order.

You maybe right. Having a meal out tomorrow so will get a few more calories in tomorrow after my third jab. It is a long haul thing and i’m making good habits. Plus the food noise is down which is great.

SpiderMother · 20/09/2024 18:26

I had third injection yesterday. Feel really hungry but when I checked back I felt the same last Friday, so either it takes a while for the effects to kick in or I'm just more prone to emotional eating on a Friday. It has been a stressful day workwise so maybe its that.

In brighter news, a pair of jeans that were too tight now fit me - hooray!

InfoSecInTheCity · 20/09/2024 18:32

@StanleyCup I always find it useful to look at the trends over a couple of months. It feels like everything should happen NOW and like weight loss should be linear, especially if you are being consistent with calories and exercise but there's so much more to it that you can't control.

My patterns

  • the week before my period starts I do not lose weight, then during my period it falls off at a higher than usual rate
  • if I don't have plenty of water every day I do not lose weight. If I then have a couple of days drinking 2lts a day it balances back out
  • a heavy day of exercise or a very hot day will result in a higher weight the next day, my body hangs on to water to rehydrate and heal my muscles, I need a rest day and lots of water.
  • anything very salty will result in a gain the next day.
  • low sleep nights show on the scales too, I don't lose as quickly when I'm getting less sleep.

I weigh daily then look at the overall trend over the course of a month. I mark in my tracker the day I started my period and if I have a sudden gain I try to make a note of what the day before was like for salt/exercise/heat.

BeautyPageantDropout · 20/09/2024 18:36

4th injection of 7.5mg tomorrow. For some reason I've been much more tempted by sweet things on 7.5 than I was on 5mg. Looking forward to moving up to 10mg next week.

85reasons · 20/09/2024 18:40

@BeautyPageantDropout can I ask - do you automatically go up to a higher dose each time, or do you see how you're feeling at the end of each month and decide then? I'm trying to decide what to do as I near the end of my first month...

2.5 mg had no noticeable effect for me, aside from doing its job of getting my system used to the drug presumably, so went straight on to 5mg after that. Stayed on 5mg for two months before moving up to 7.5mg. Thought I'd stay on 7.5 for at least two months too, but decided against it today and went ahead and ordered the 10mg pen. So yeah, I see how I'm feeling and then decide.

85reasons · 20/09/2024 18:46

@BeautyPageantDropout thanks - it's interesting how different doses have different effects (ie having more cravings at a higher dose).

Tailrunner · 20/09/2024 19:03

This is the end of week 1 for me and I've lost 6lb Smile. That is typical for me when I start eating healthily - I lose well in week 1 but not in week 2. The brilliant bit is how easy it has been. I haven't spent all day thinking about how to get the most food for the fewest calories like usual. DC wanted Domino's tonight as a treat after a week of performing in a play. I couldn't be bothered cooking a separate meal, so I had 1 slice of pizza and 2 chicken kickers. I enjoyed it but didn't want any more. I have never said that before! Just done injection 2 so hoping for another week of feeling unbothered by food.

@raspberrymeringue @Latelifelesbian I sympathise on the side effects! Weird day 3 thing.

Stressedmummyof4 · 20/09/2024 19:26

I’ve just started this week, taken first dose in tummy on Wednesday, so far doing ok. I feel like I’m being hyper aware to any body niggles, almost going overdrive on watching for side effects. Out of the three nights dinners I’ve had a chicken breast some mashed turnip and a small mix of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. And one night I had a slice of whole meal toast with half a tin of beans. I don’t eat breakfast never have done so I’ve been having either a protein shake or yoghurt at lunch time. Massively upped my water intake to 3 litres a day. But here comes my first weekend and this is the point I fail every time, I always spend a Saturday with my mum and my daughter we go for some shopping a wander round town and normally have a subway lunch, what are your suggestions for safe foods from subway. It would normally be a tikka sub or salad. Many thanks

alwaysscared · 20/09/2024 19:52

Taken my third injection this afternoon and I'm ravenous tonight!! I just want to eat and eat. The suppression was quick with my first two jabs, so I'm not sure what's going on. I don't like the feeling!!

OldKnees · 20/09/2024 20:35

Exactly the same thing has happened today with jab 3 for me, @alwaysscared . I’ve just had a Chinese takeaway and had to force myself to stop before it got silly.

HippoPortlyMouse · 20/09/2024 20:35

Yesterday I was convinced suppression was wearing off and I was all ready to head towards 5mg on my next pen, I was so hungry and wanted to snack all the time. Today I only ate half my dinner (which never happens). I made cakes earlier too and didn't eat any. It's weird. I guess it goes to show there's more going on than just the effects of the medication.

drowningbutwaving · 20/09/2024 20:55

@EJA24 do let me know how you get on with it. I've already purchased insulin needles as initially was going to use the bonus dose for a 5th week.

You know what this makes alot of sense. Im just getting impatient i think. I hope it keeps going in the right direction, even just to keep my motivation up. Lol but it seems the injections are working, and my suppression and side affect’s are low. So thats a positive.

Thanks you for this useful insight. I need to work on my patience.

Richtea67 · 20/09/2024 21:57

Hi, can someone please explain the 'bonus dose' please?

EJA24 · 20/09/2024 22:38

drowningbutwaving · 20/09/2024 20:55

@EJA24 do let me know how you get on with it. I've already purchased insulin needles as initially was going to use the bonus dose for a 5th week.

It was fine. Pen twisted no problem with a bit of force and got a full extra dose from it. Injected 1 in each leg (new screw on needle for each as I was given 2 spares by provider).🤞

I am struggling with getting enough protein. I'm realising my diet before MJ was pretty poor as well, although I was eating more, I was heavy on the carbs. I don't really fancy bread and pasta now, thankfully, but replacing it with decent protein is hard. I am bored of cheese (and I never thought I'd say that)!

@simb which vegetarian collagen do you use? I'm assuming it isn't actually collagen, (which is an animal product). I looked at the Ancient and Brave 'collagyn' one but it didn't look like it measured up well to actual collagen.

I have some protein powder and bars, but they're not ideal and I don't want them to be a long term solution. Like @InfoSecInTheCity I don't like the shakes although I've got an unflavoured Huel powder that goes well blended with fruit.

Hello! I've recently started eating tiny amounts of very ethically sourced meat and so I've gone for a marine collagen powder that I got from Holland and Barrett. It's completely tasteless although it looks revolting so I just mix it in a bit if juice and water and 'down the hatch' without thinking too much about what it is!!

morbidcuriosity · 20/09/2024 23:50

Richtea67 · 20/09/2024 21:57

Hi, can someone please explain the 'bonus dose' please?

Yes.. Once you have done your 4 doses from your pen, if you didnt waste loads priming then there is enough for an extra dose , sometimes a bit more..

If you twist the pen round to 1 again, it will take a bit of force as you are breaking the mechanism but then pop a new needle on and you can inject for a 5th week.. you are still in you 30 days too as it will be day 28.

some people use a syringe to extract it, then you can measure exactly how much you are getting.

suze12 · 21/09/2024 07:07

So I injected dose 2 on Thursday evening and thank goodness I did delay doing it by a day as I had the most horrendous headache all day yesterday. I would have really struggled to get through a day of work with it so I did the right thing not injecting Wednesday night! It might have been linked to starting my period as well as Mounjaro as I suffer from menstrual migraines.

I didn’t eat well yesterday. Brunch was fine- omelette and veg but I just had bits and pieces of rubbish the rest of the day. I probably had about 1600 calories in total so nothing over the top but still more than I probably needed. Last week the suppression didn’t kick in for a couple of days so hopefully I feel more of it today and tomorrow. I have a birthday party later this afternoon so will try my best to be sensible.

I should have known better but I jumped on the scales and have gained 2lbs since Wednesday… really hoping it’s a combination of headache meds + period bloat and that it’s gone plus more by next week!
