Hi @OrangesAndLemonz I can't address your first point as I have not had anxiety/depression and don't have any issues with Mounjaro in that respect. For point 2, yes you can do this. It's normally 60 clicks for a full dose, so 30 clicks would be a half dose.

Sadteacher · 31/08/2024 11:33

I took my first dose yesterday. I am a shortie, got me thinking about if the 2.5 dose is going to be more impactful on me than maybe someone 5 foot 10 with the same bmi? I feel fine, I was just pondering why the starting dose isn’t proportional to someone’s starting weight!
I did have 2 glasses of wine last night, I really want to break my wine o’clock habit, but also don’t want the big headache from suddenly stopping. I’d usually have more than 2 glasses on a Friday night so already a little cut back!

GoodLuckBabe · 31/08/2024 11:39

@OrangesAndLemonz of course everyone is different but I have a long history of mild to moderate anxiety and depression (have been on anti-depressants for nearly 15 years) and have not had an issue with MJ (am around 5 weeks in). This is in contrast to when I try following WW or SW or similar without MJ. I tend to become quite low due to the pressure and restriction of constantly having to deprive myself. And then give up…
I was very alert to the risk of my mood going down and so for the first couple of weeks I didn’t try and calorie count or change my diet in any way, so maybe that helped. Just went with the flow and checked in with myself regularly. After a few weeks I started thinking about eating more healthily and felt quite positive that it was much easier than normal. I have had a few evenings where I’ve been stressed or low due to life stuff, and have felt a bit lost, because one of my usual coping strategies is to buy myself some delicious food and eat it all. But I have had an early night or a small quantity of chocolate or whatever and have been ok.
I would say try a slow start as you suggest, and check in with yourself regularly - good luck x

Morning everyone. I have been avidly reading these threads all week and so inspired. I have just ordered my first pen. Got a couple of questions:

  1. Has anyone had any anxiety or depression caused by MJ? I tried ozempic last year, first low dose, and felt very low within a couple of days, to the extent that I couldn't face taking another dose. It's amazing as I cannot see anyone mentioning depression in this whole thread, unless I've missed it. (I take a low dose antidepressant).
  2. Because of the above, I want to try 1.25 for the first dose. Is this possible with the MJ pens? can I click half the number of times and take half a dose?

Hi @OrangesAndLemonz
I've a long history of depression and anxiety but was quite well when I started on MJ so not on any medication. I noticed a flattening of mood, particularly in the first month, and was thinking 'uh, oh, is this the beginning...' but it never got worse and has subsequently improved. Some of this may have been linked to stopping drinking rather than MJ though, especially the anxiety. Sleep is worse but isn't causing lower mood, but I'm lucky as I'm 'quietly retiring' and WFH so being a little tired is manageable!
As the weight loss has really racked up, I am feeling better and better - happier to be out in public, more confident, higher self-esteem so win, win.
Just a word of warning though, MJ affects digestion so may reduce/slow actions of your ADs. Might be worth discussing with your GP if you feel they're less effective.

livingwithpmdd · 31/08/2024 12:09

Hi @OrangesAndLemonz I have a condition that causes me to have monthly depression and anxiety and I've found MJ has made it better not worse. Everyone is different but for me it's been the best thing I've ever done.

Let us know how you get on with your first dose, we're here if you need anything.

Ifyounevergiveup · 31/08/2024 12:32

@OrangesAndLemonz hi! I don’t have a clinical history of anxiety, although occupational psychoanalytic tests show I have a very high anxiety score happily balanced by a very low despondency score (the things you find out!). The reason why I’m telling you this is because I tried Mysimba before Mounjaro and I didn’t have a clinical history of either depression or anxiety. At first it was wonderful. Immediate appetite suppression, total loss of food noise, weight falling off. I kept upping the dose per the instructions and felt myself getting more edgy. This was in the early days of these weight loss drugs (even before this thread first started!) and there was nothing to go on online other than the standard dosage instructions. I lasted three weeks before coming off it, because by that time I was existing in a state of absolute terror all the time. I was still only three quarters of the way to the maintenance dose.

Now there are so many more of us on these meds, we’re finding out things like some people being super sensitive to some drugs and some being resistant. In my case I would appear to be the former on Mysimba and (so far, about to go up to 7.5mg) the latter to Mj. Had I known, and had there been a forum like this back then, I would have taken a couple of pills a week of Mysimba and not gone any further as long as my appetite and food noise remained low. So I guess this is a longwinded way of saying, start as low as you feel safe. Go as slowly as you feel is right for you. Don’t assume the standard dosage increments are mandatory. There are many people who lose weight satisfactorily on 2.5mg, which isn’t in theory supposed to happen. But it does, it’s quite clear it does. Keep coming back to this thread, it’s invaluable. Someone will always be there to help. And trust how your body is feeling. I wish I had!

Tireduk · 31/08/2024 12:32

Regards depression: I do get down at times although I don’t think clinically depressed, lack of confidence badly a few months ago, however now I drink lot less alcohol, better eating and feel much happier on MH than not. I get a sense of being in control more of my life, which I really like and perhaps that’s simply linked to loosing weight. I’ve lost 2 stone, but still have 3 to go, however I feel more confident already. This drug I think has many benefits, although im sure it’s different for everyone. People should discuss depression with their doctors though if they feel MJ is making it worse. Everyone look after yourself!

butterfly0404 · 31/08/2024 13:14

Still on the wagon - slow small losses but going in the right direction.

I'm currently 1kg off my lowest weight in 15 years. I got to 74.5 kg by doing Lighter Life but put 2 stone back on after loosing three. I'm still in Obese category bmi wise but so nearly touching 'overweight' 😆

Start 3rd pen tomorrow, staying at 5mg as I'm loosing and didn't fancy any more side effects on a higher dose.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 31/08/2024 13:32

I go home today from my holiday so tomorrow morning ill be back on the scales to see what the damage is.

I'm optimistic as I needed new knickers and trousers but these past 2 days the hunger pangs have been back and I'm surrounded by bad influences who have said why not you're on holiday.

I did decide that I'd only do 5mg last week so tonight I will have to move up to 7.5 I think. I've ummed and ahhed about it for long enough now to think why am I still dillydallying.

If the scales do not say 102kg or less tomorrow though I might have to relocate to water where I hope a pod of dolphin will adopt me as their own.

Hello everyone. I've just got my first order from Care Pharmacy - I actually picked it up as I live nearby. However, I think they left it out for a while beforehand in anticipation of my coming, so it is quite warm. I think it's been out of the fridge for about 3 hours with no ice packs etc.

I can't really argue though, because I've noticed that the sign up procedure for Care asks if you are using within 30 days, so I just agreed. Presumably I can still use this up to the use by date if it's been out of the fridge for a while, can't I?

Thank you for any help!

ThirdStorm · 31/08/2024 13:48

Finally a positive headline about Weightloss drugs. I feel like I’ve got superpowers on MJ! 🤣🤣🤣

Further my my post earlier about my disappointing weigh in this week, I’ve just tried on my swimwear in readiness for a UK trip away at the end of September and OMG, I don’t look too bad 😆 I actually would wear the bikini top in public rather than hiding it all in a tankini! Now I’ve done that, you can guarantee that it’ll rain for the whole week now 🤣

You absolutely can argue it. It should have been given to you cold.

It will still be ok to use within 30 days if you are starting soon you can get 4 doses (plus the unofficial 5th dose) in those 30 days, but it is not their 30 days to use or to start the clock ticking on. You should be able to get the pen and leave it in a fridge for a few days before using so you can pick your day, or even buy early before previous pen runs out.

@Forevafatty instructions from Eli Lilly website

Thank you. I rang up after I got home and they said it had just been dispensed that morning - the label said 10am and I picked it up at 12.30ish. I wish I'd said it was warm while I was in the pharmacy, but I never thought until I got home and checked. I've even taken it out of the box to see if it was cold inside, so I doubt they'll take it back. I'm so disappointed - I don't need to use to use it for another three weeks! I was hoping picking up would eliminate the need for worrying about defrosting ice packs etc, but clearly not.

I think they'll just say I have to use it within 30 days, which I guess I agreed to on ordering as it wouldn't let me order otherwise.

Velondra · 31/08/2024 16:52

Hi all, have been reading the posts over last couple of days and enjoying seeing all of your progress.
I have started this week 2.5mg on Wednesday night. Had a bit of nausea it nothing terrible, I weighed this am and lost 3lb so something is happening. I felt really good about it all but I've gone to Alton towers today with husband and kids and I am too scared to go on anything in case I can't fit. I've checked online and reddit etc says I would be fine but I'm too anxious to try.im determined that this time next year I will come again and go on everything with no fear.
I'm 5ft 9

I’m sorry you’ve had a crappy experience.

  1. you absolutely CAN argue and tell them in doesn’t comply with the manufacturer guidelines
  2. if it was out for a few hours, it’s not an issue efficacy-wise. It is still a safe and efficient drug to use. Just pop it in the fridge. The 30 days starts from when you open it/first jab; otherwise it’s good until expiry date. (Per a convo I had with Eli Lily when my pen was sat out for 2.5 DAYS).
hope this puts your mind at ease! X

@Velondra Well done on taking the mj plunge and your loss so far!
In case you are interested there is another group/post/thread (I have no idea what these things are referred to!) for those of us who all started this August. Its quite nice as we are all in the same boat. This thread is fantastic for further insights and to see what our journey ahead might look like!

@OrangesAndLemonz I have no advice on the depression side of things but just thought I'd point out, in case you haven't already spotted it, that a pen should be discarded 30 days after first use so starting at 1.25mg will mean you have to discard about half the pen.

A pen contains 4x2.5mg doses + bonus/priming amount so just over 12.5mg. You can get 5 doses within 30 days so you would use 5x1.25mg + priming, just over 6.25mg

That has made me feel so much better, thank you! If I can still use it until the expiry date then that's perfect. I'd a feeling that I'd read similar on the threads before when someone had spoken to Eli Lily, but wasn't sure.

MooFroo · 31/08/2024 18:24

Week 5 today and has my bonus jab today, used needles ordered off Amazon as seen in one of the threads

YouTube’d how to do it as wasn’t quite sure and worked well - but of tugging and prodding but managed to get the whole dose out.

video below for anyone else who might need it - it’s literally one minute long and was easy to do

I was wishing I'd gone with Oushk today 🤣! No worries at all - I think where I went wrong was saying I'd collect rather than have it delivered - they got it out ready hours earlier, it seems! I'm sure having it delivered would have been just like you said it would.
