@ObsidianTree
Thank you so much for keeping this thread going as long as you did… They have helped me so much over the past few months. It will be strange not seeing your regular posts

Ineffable23 · 13/08/2024 10:40

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 13/08/2024 09:41

If nobody else will do it, I am happy to continue the threads when this one is done.

I've got another 30+kg to lose and these threads have been a massive life line for me, and I've got a surplus of time on my hands lately.

These threads inspired me to swap to mounjaro and I don't think I'd have lost at all without them.

Thank you @ObsidianTree I hope we keep seeing your name pop up from time to time on new threads just so you can remind us of the success hard work earns you.

That's a really helpful offer @Jimmyneutronsforehead and it sounds like a great plan to me :)

CeruleanDive · 13/08/2024 10:40

A&E is full of people who lied to get their hands on it when they should not have.

Is there a source for that, @CautiousLurker? Absolutely not advocating taking it unless you fit the criteria, but that sounds like scaremongering.

Greyrockin · 13/08/2024 11:09

@CeruleanDive - this is quite common knowledge:

People should not use anti-obesity drugs to lose unwanted weight and get “beach body ready” for the summer, the NHS’s top doctor has said.
Prof Steve Powis, the national medical director of NHS England, spoke out as evidence emerged that growing numbers of people who do not qualify medically to receive the drugs are obtaining them through online pharmacies.

Those using weight-loss medications, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, for “quick-fix” aesthetic reasons run the risk of “complications and dangerous consequences”, NHS England’s medical director said. They should only be prescribed for and taken by people with severe obesity or type 2 diabetes.
Recent reports have said people – especially young women – who used them without any medical reason were ending up seriously ill in hospital, including in intensive care.

Greyrockin · 13/08/2024 11:10

I also have first hand knowledge of this as my (healthy BMI) niece ended up in hospital for 5 days after lying to get mounjaro

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 13/08/2024 11:12

Yes @Greyrockin but that's not people who need is, is it? It's people who have lied to lose weight. For those of us that need it, it is a brilliant tool.

Forevafatty · 13/08/2024 11:15

Morning everyone, I have just noticed that I have a red raised patch where I injected on Saturday. Has anyone else had this, please? I'm wondering if it's because I didn't swab 🤦🏻‍♀️ which is clearly my mistake, but it hasn't happened before.

I'm not knocking it - I was just responding to a Q. asking for info about people who don't need it ending up in A&E and hospital.

I’ve had this. I have this pretty much every time after injecting. It usually goes away a day or two before my next jab is due

Forevafatty · 13/08/2024 11:20

@Greyrockin Do you mind me asking, what happened that was so serious that she ended up in hospital for 5 days? And is it something that only happened because she was a healthy BMI originally?

ItsAlrightDarling · 13/08/2024 11:25

I imagine there’s a difference between adding a pound or two on to your weight to tip your BMI into ‘obese’, and starting the medication when your BMI is already in the healthy range.

CeruleanDive · 13/08/2024 11:25

Thanks, @Greyrockin. Stating that A&E is "full of" these cases is still scaremongering though.

I was wondering this too. What is it about having a healthy BMI that makes it dangerous? Not saying these stories aren’t true btw, genuinely interested. And would that affect maintenance doses once you get to a healthy BMI if it’s unhealthy to continue use?

ItsAlrightDarling · 13/08/2024 11:26

(Not that I’m condoning either scenario)

@Greyrockin Do you mind me asking, what happened that was so serious that she ended up in hospital for 5 days? And is it something that only happened because she was a healthy BMI originally?

She damaged her kidneys and liver and her bloodwork was all over the place. She was on a drip for 5 days to try and balance her sugars I think - they kept taking blood tests until they were happy with everything, it was quite serious to keep her i for 5 days. She was dizzy and faint and had kidney pain - I think it was the same as the guardian article - ketoacidosis.

She's mortified that she did what she did, but unfortunately slimness is highly regarded by my DSis who hasn't been a great role model to her DC's - in fact she encouraged her to take the meds.

Greyrockin · 13/08/2024 11:30

Healthy BMI I'm guessing as she's a size 10?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 13/08/2024 11:31

@ObsidianTree thank you so much for the thread over the last few months! I read from the beginning when I discovered the existence of Mounjaro and it was you trailblazers that convinced me to that it wasn't yet another lose-weight-quick fad and could actually work

So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for providing the impetus and information to change my life!

If @Jimmyneutronsforehead ever runs out of steam, I would be happy to lend a hand with the thread (gone be here a looong time!!)

I think it's a bit more complicated, after all my BMIs now 26 and I'm fine, and you don't need to be overweight to get this if you're T2 diabetic.. Some people are buying dodgy meds off Tiktok, etc. Some are going off piste and using too high too quickly too frequently. Others, lying to prescribers, are already low weight and have pre- existing eating disorders or not declaring underlying health issues or contra-indicated medicines. I don't think the issue is simply loads of people who are just a bit overweight getting sick even when following all the rules.

Ghilliedu · 13/08/2024 11:35

aw just read back and saw @ObsidianTree update. End of an era but thank you so much for keeping these threads going. Congratulations on almost being at goal - you have definitely earned your ‘retirement’

I will also likely be here for the duration so happy to chip in with starting threads if @Jimmyneutronsforehead needs a hand

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 13/08/2024 11:40

Sounds like she made herself ill by not eating enough and taking a drug that, in part, can help your blood sugars.

Agree with all you’ve said but the article posted certainly reads as though anyone with a healthy BMI who takes a weight loss drug will end up ill, which is clearly not the case as loads of people on here are now at a health BMI and are fine. Only towards the end does it mention stuff bought from beauty salons.

Yes there's a lot of scaremongering going on, for sure, by the tabloid press and TV. Certainly the warnings need to be out there but there's a lack of balance and responsible, eligible users are being dragged into the debate.

Ive seen a lot on here about fatty foods etc, for dinner I'm thinking of having gammon (bought before I started the jabs), is this likely to give me a reaction? I'll grill it and have it with peas, an egg and some boiled potatoes I think - I doubt I'll be able to finish it!

I've not noticed any issue with any foods.

I've eaten Chinese,kfc,McDonald's, fish and chips,pizza.

The only difference I've noticed is some foods full me quickly and sometimes I look at foods and go meh not bothered by it so it's less enjoyable.

If you've not had bowel issues on it yet there's no reason to think you would. Some people are just unlucky.

I also have first hand knowledge of this as my (healthy BMI) niece ended up in hospital for 5 days after lying to get mounjaro

So she wasn't obese and had no health conditions but lied to a reputable supplier to get a prescription? Or did she buy it from a non pharmacy? Did she end up in hospital from taking just 2.5mg or did she also try to get faster results by taking too much?

I hope she has recovered now and the damage to her liver and kidneys is not permanent. It's sad that she has got messages from her mother that lead her to think taking Mounjaro when slim was the right course of action.

guestusername · 13/08/2024 12:35

Thank you @ObsidianTree for all of your hard work with these threads. I certainly wouldn’t have started MJ without them. They have been, and hopefully will continue to be an invaluable mine of information!

My 7.5 pen arrived today - I only ordered on Thursday, got the approval email on Friday and dispatched email yesterday. All fine with it. I did notice that they put the needles and swabs in a plastic bag now rather than a box so they were much more obvious

I spent 17 hours at the hospital yesterday (not for me). I had no sleep and only ate at 19.30 last night, 24 hours after I’d last eaten. MJ did a very good job of suppressing my appetite the day before flab jab day! I was so tired by the time I got home I just shoved some chips between two slices of bread and I was done. Pre MJ I’d have stopped for takeout on my way home! Back to normal today 🙂
