I have just looked up my healthy weight range for my height. My upper limit is 10st 7. I think for now I'm setting my goal to get to a BMI of 29, so that's a weight of 12st 1. I think that's achievable.

Lynsey14 · 21/09/2024 19:57

As an oversized jumper enthusiast, you can still make it work! You’ll look well dainty

Oh, do you think so?
I'll hang on to it then.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/09/2024 07:41

All of my jumpers this winter will be oversized as I am not replacing everything yet! 😂

daffodilandtulip · 22/09/2024 07:48

In left with two t-shirts that fit at the moment, I haven't even started on my winter clothes! I think I've got a mix of old things that were too small that would fit, but a lot of things will be straight in the fat clothes bag.

Ineffable23 · 22/09/2024 07:58

I've had to start altering clothes now so that they don't just look comical. It's a moderately annoying job but worth it to save clothes that would otherwise not fit.

I reckon you can usually get a good 4 inches off clothes size wise before it becomes obvious they've been altered, and I've taken up to 8 inches out of things before with the combination of careful darts and a forgiving garment. It doesn't work for jeans but most things like shirts etc can have darts put in to bring the sizing down.

Obviously it involves a bit of effort so maybe only worth it for stuff you actively like/haven't got enough wear out of.

WheresSummer99 · 22/09/2024 08:10

I moved the waist button over on some cotton cargos I only bought in May but I could pull off done up which worked for a few more weeks as they were baggy legged anyway. I’ve got some jeans I really like which when washed fit on the leg but the waist is 3-4inches too big I’m thinking of just re cutting a new button hole instead of moving the riverted in button. I do sew occasionally so could tidy it up. I bought new smaller jeans which fit well on the hips but waist still abit pinchy as my tum bloats as the day goes on. Finally had a 1lb loss after a weeks stall after just 48hrs of injecting new pen no big whosh but I’ll take it as was getting fed up not seeing any movement. I’m only 7lbs from my target now so I knew it would slow alot.

Melty · 22/09/2024 10:24

14 weeks yesterday.
Today I hit 3 stone off.
SW 19st 10
CW 16st 9.5
GW TBD
I've just pulled a pile of dresses from the wardrobe. Some I have been holding onto "for when I slim down " (years old, still with tags on)
TOO BIG
I got a few summer dresses from New Look for my holidays in August. All massive now.
I bought 2 pairs of jeggings this week as the skinny jeans I bought are now too baggy after wesring fir only a couple of weeks. I have to send the jeggings back as they are too loose. Size 18 (though prob vanity sizing)
I'm going to give up and look silly for a bit as all my casual clothes are massive. I have enough smart old (unworn and used to fit) stuff that look okish for now. And a few dresses for non uniform days that are ruched so still look OK.

I can mostly see that i look better but every now and again I catch sight of myself unexpectedly - like reflection in the car window and get hit with that depressing realisation that I'm fat.
I am still fat of course, at least 4 stone to go.
Hard to see how well I've done sometimes.

I do worry though. I've lost this weight before and I wonder if I'll be able to maintain. I'm good with weighing food and logging at present. I hope I'll be able to keep it up.

Instead of trying to move the buttonhole, would you be better off putting a couple of darts in at the back of the jeans, probably symmetrically about 1/4-1/3 of the way in from each side? That might take the excess out without risking the symmetry of the trousers as much? It's a bit of a pain with jeans because you can't easily do it on a sewing machine without a denim needle but it might be doable by hand with a sturdy needle and a thimble. If you do it somewhere there's not already a seam that will reduce the thickness of the fabric you're trying to get through - would normally try and alter at a seam but for jeans I think the compromise would be worth it.

TheShellBeach · 22/09/2024 11:07

Obviously it involves a bit of effort so maybe only worth it for stuff you actively like/haven't got enough wear out of

It also depends on whether or not you're a capable seamstress.

Which I'm emphatically not. I can sew buttons on. That's it.

🤣

TheShellBeach · 22/09/2024 11:10

And I know what @Melty means about still being fat.

I know I'm 5st lighter but I'm still 6st overweight.

But I know, from my clothes, that I'm much thinner than I was. Also from walking about.

It seems impossible to imagine that I was able to walk at all when I was over 20st.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/09/2024 12:31

I am in awe at all of the alterations going on! Well done team!! 👏

I lost quite a bit of weight post covid going from 18st 9 to 15 st and bought a few new size 18s then which I am now able to wear again. I have bought some new gym wear that fits and the rest of the time I am wearing trackies and T-shirts that look quite ridiculous! I am very lucky though that I work from home so don't need to dress smartly anymore and they are fine for walking the dogs etc 😁

I have 3 pairs of size 18 jeans that will hopefully see me through the winter. They are all M&S 18s so fairly variable in actual size 😂😂

TheShellBeach · 22/09/2024 12:49

I'm 15st 0.6lb this morning.

So STILL not quite in the 14st bracket! But nearly......

I remember having an infuriating plateau at 15st 8lb. I thought the scales would never go down.
😂

CoastalCalm · 22/09/2024 20:04

Popping back on still waiting for surgery for the cyst (12cm now) plus they’ve seen a lesion on adrenal gland so MRI tomorrow after 3 CT scans and then fingers crossed surgery mid Oct. After a month off I had a small gain so started the jabs again - now 38 pound down in 12 weeks of treatment , from 18.12.5 to 16.2.5 today

Megarea · 22/09/2024 20:30

NSV of the day - tipping just into being merely obese rather than severely obese according to BMI!

QueenEthelTheMagnificent · 23/09/2024 08:19

Ladies - clothes help please!!!

I've bought from Yours and Evans for years, I don't know where else to start, and I don't even know what size I am now! My tops are all comically massive on me, but I've no idea where to buy from. I live in the middle of nowhere so I can't pop anywhere to try things on. All I want is some loose black tops for winter, maybe a couple of new things for my holiday in 4 weeks. I always get my undies from M & S, but the app is so overwhelming and when I did pop into one with DD on Saturday again I'd no idea where to start! I keep defaulting back to looking at the Yours app....... 😬

WheresSummer99 · 23/09/2024 08:49

@CoastalCalm good to hear from you & hope you don’t have to wait too long to get the cyst removed well done on maintaining & hope you can stay on MJ until your OP.

@QueenEthelTheMagnificent what sort of age bracket are you? I’m early 50s and shop 90% online as I don’t like clothes shopping. I’m short & I buy from mix of weirdfish as I like their cotton dresses/tunics, M&S basics pretty good Jeans & plain tops, mainly because they deliver quickly cheaply to our local ms food place. I live in a lot of sports wear as i work mainly from home. My teens shop at New Look, H&M & Primark & Shein mostly so occasionally I find stuff there but not oftern. Used to like odd thing from Dorthy Perkins. So all main high street, as I don’t need to be smart very oftern!

WheresSummer99 · 23/09/2024 09:07

Forgot to say scales moved and now got bmi of 26.9 whoop plus i re-did my measurements lost SIX inches off my waist! Think it’s the smallest I’ve ever had. This drug really has targeted the belly & boob fat on me.

pinkstinks · 23/09/2024 09:09

@QueenEthelTheMagnificent ive been loving TU at Sainsbury’s for a mix of basics and smart and casual - reasonably priced too if you have one near you? Only bigger is they seem to have removed changing rooms but easy enough to buy and return :)

Callmejudith · 23/09/2024 09:40

I am loving all this chat of clothes altering and everything being too big!

I've got some trousers on today that I bought at the beginning of the year and squeezed myself into and they were so bloody uncomfortable - they are now a bit big but I can breathe freely.

I have a wedding this weekend and I'm not going to do my second micro dose this week, the last wedding I was at on MJ I was sick halfway through the evening as the food was so rich and I really don't want a repeat of that.

Ambrose Wilson are very good. You can return things for free and they have a huge range, from size 8 up to size 24.

I also live in the middle of nowhere and AW have been a godsend.

@CoastalCalm I hope all goes well for you today.

TheShellBeach · 23/09/2024 11:40

I have another NSV - I bought some lovely trousers ages ago which were Much Too Small, and finally got them out yesterday and now they're Much Too Big.

So I never got a chance to wear them. Dammit.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 23/09/2024 11:58

@CoastalCalm good luck with the cyst. Hope it gets dealt with soon.
@QueenEthelTheMagnificent would second (third?) M&S, H&M and Sainsbury's for basics. Maybe try looking for one thing at a time? So decide you want jeans and then use the online search filters to see what you like? On M&S, I always filter out all of the other brands they now offer - not paying £100 for a pair of trousers from Jaeger that wont fit in a few months time!!

Another idea is to go somewhere like John Lewis and use a personal shopper.

Or go on the style and beauty board here and search for suggestions
@TheShellBeach annoying huh?! I too have missed the window on some of the clothes I’m my wardrobe! 🤦‍♀️
@Callmejudith sounds like a wise decision!

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 23/09/2024 12:08

Loving all this talk of 'too big' clothes and alterations. I'm wearing a pinafore dress I've not worn in two years. It's never been this baggy, and it suddenly looks too long as well, which is strange - I guess because it doesn't need to stretch as much widthways.
