Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

9 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

10 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

11 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

12 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

13 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

14 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.

15 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

16 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

17 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

18 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

19 - Some of the places you can order from are:

20- You will still be prescribed Mounjaro when your BMI falls below 30. However, it may be harder to move suppliers once you BMI is below 30 if you wanted to move.

21 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years

Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance
Bolt:Individual assessment once BMI 22 and does offer maintenance

Anyways.... Zava! Anyone received a delivery recently? I've ordered pen number two and it's been approved but says it will arrive between Mon and Fri next week! Not very helpful - I had deliberately timed my order assuming it would arrive Fri, Sat or Mon - as I'm home those mornings. Won't be home Tues to Fri. Hoping it will come soon! Just wondered if anyone has recent experience of delivery times.

I ordered from Zava on Sunday. It was approved Monday. Royal Mail tracking has been stuck at 'we're expecting this parcel' until earlier this evening. It's now due to be delivered tomorrow apparently.

I was given Thursday to Tuesday as expected delivery.

I'm hoping it's not actually packaged up until today when it was finally with Royal Mail, even though it was approved on Monday.

Ghilliedu · 17/07/2024 21:46

Got my first delivery from Oushk today, packaging was ok. The ice was mostly melted but was still cold enough. The pen needles are the better ones - not the rubbish medexpress ones. And they sent a nice wee tape measure as well which is useful as I do need to start measurements as well.

still not convinced I’ll stay with them though if they are in bed with Curate. Going to email medexpress at the weekend and see if they’ll price match. Anyone know where is cheapest for 5mg just now with no codes so that I can ask them to match?

Fromthesidelines · 17/07/2024 21:49

That's amazing @spamm. Very well done!

Same think happened to me. Approved one day, royal mail says expecting it for a few days, then when they receive it, it gets delivered next day. Someone else said on the thread that they suspect Zava of printing the postage labels but not actually packing and sending to royal mail until a few days later. Maybe once they have a bunch of orders to send in one go.

When mine was delivered it was still some what cold.

@spamm great news. That's so encouraging. I follow Chaz on tiktok who is in the states and she has said that MJ has cured so many of her health conditions. It is a miracle drug.

I know what you mean about not feeling your weight yet. After years and years of struggling and being big, it feels quite surreal to actually be slim!

@MounjaroMunchie @Slimstar13 @BellaCriesAndThatsAlright @NewLifter I think we could be onto something. 😂

I'm CEO of a large global company and am also excellent and gift wrapping...so could deal with the business side and the packaging!! Win win.

I've got a funny feeling I'll be awake at 3am whirring through a business plan.

@NewLifter am now intrigued as to what area you work in. If it's alcohol based you can be in charge of the launch party and the Christmas party.

MountKilimounjaro · 17/07/2024 22:07

@spamm congratulations! Amazing results. It's so encouraging to hear just how big a difference this makes. The psychology behind weight loss is so interesting too. There's a lot of change happening in a relatively short space of time, it takes time to adjust.

Thank you all!

@MountKilimounjaro - I do PR and comms/marketing for a big organization. I could help create a brand look and feel, as well as a launch campaign! Plenty of storytelling from this group!

imnottoofussed · 17/07/2024 22:21

I can do the payroll if you want to actually pay any of us wages Grin

MountKilimounjaro · 17/07/2024 22:25

@spamm you're in the gang!

First point of business will be making the boxes much nicer (and with named day delivery options).

Definitely need high quality needles and decent wipes. I had a real hatred of the needles that came from MedExpress.

Plus free beauty gift samples as an additional treat....the beauty brands can pay us to be included.

Getting carried away now.

MountKilimounjaro · 17/07/2024 22:26

@imnottoofussed excellent point. Fair wages for the workers.

AgathaMystery · 17/07/2024 22:27

I am dual registered and specialise in endocrine/diabetes & large clinical trials. I also have my own mass vaccination business - I think I could be useful to the collective?! I know how to get almost anything past an ethics committee

edited to add: I have also got experience in the high end uniform business and been a union chair. So I could make sure we look smart but also lobby ourselves for fair pay 😂

MountKilimounjaro · 17/07/2024 22:32

@AgathaMystery you're bringing the full package, I love it.

I especially like the idea of a fancy uniform. Can we have a jaunty hat like the ones cabin crew wear?

NewLifter · 17/07/2024 22:35

I'm actually a midwife 😂 but I'm happy to organise the Christmas party for sure. Though I suppose if there's any truth in the 'Ozempic Babies' rumour, I could be needed after all 😂😂😂🫣🫣

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 17/07/2024 22:38

I’m so for purchasing from MNjaro when you get started!! 😁
@spamm unbelievable results! You are living proof of everything Dr Tyna Moore was talking about!

I don’t wanna brag but…. I was on the team that landed the Emirates account when they did those cute pillbox hats with the veil. 😎

@NewLifter we could do antenatal classes and LARC advice together 😂 maybe run a clinical trial on GLP & BF?

NewLifter · 17/07/2024 22:40

MNjaro ©️

Love it 😂😂

MelissaLouRocks will obviously be involved in monitoring the competition and ensuring we keep it legal with our registrations 😂

@MountKilimounjaro @MounjaroMunchie @Slimstar13 @BellaCriesAndThatsAlright @NewLifter @AgathaMystery
At the risk of outing myself I will confess I am a registered pharmacist and qualified to prescribe!

Not only that, I have friends who already run pharmacies so could save us a lot of red tape in getting a contract and setting things up.

NewLifter · 17/07/2024 22:59

Oh my word I can't believe we have an inhouse prescriber 😎 sorted ⭐

WannabeHealthier · 17/07/2024 23:00

Red flags were waving for me when someone mentioned that the prescriber was happy to provide advice to people on Facebook … even if they’re registered with another pharmacist. I judged that as poor practice and crossed both companies off my list- surely a relevant medical history is required before giving professional advice as a pharmacist?

We’re different here on mumsnet. We’re providing peer support. No one is claiming to be a pharmacist/ prescriber so anyone taking advice from us is doing so at their own risk… and we often advise to speak to your pharmacist/ prescriber.

Thebaldprimadonna · 17/07/2024 23:01

MNjaro is a genius idea. All we all need is reasonable pricing, reliable delivery, ethical practices and a clear approach towards maintenance 😁

MountKilimounjaro · 17/07/2024 23:01

@Flapearedknave I'm sure your skills will be very helpful, we want to make sure we're accessible for all.

Midwifery and antenatal support are great ideas, we have to be there for every part of the Mounjaro journey...no matter what direction it takes.

@AgathaMystery landing the Emirates uniform contract is the biggest flex! I've always wanted one of those hats, I will never admit this in real life but when there's a choice between airlines I'll often pick Emirates because they're more high end...but I know the only reason I think they're high end is because of the fancy hats.
