I am looking forward to getting into yoga

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/10/2024 13:49

I've been sea swimming for years but due to various (non-swimming) injuries over the years its become more "dipping" than meaningful exercise. I have got my swimming fitness back in the pool but its not translated back to the sea which is more light exercise and social chatting.

I've been practising yoga on/off for years but now at the gym I'm doing yoga/pilates/speed yoga and a circuit every week.

Exercise I'd like to add to my life:
Short term
I'd like to bring in 2 more weights training sessions per week moving forward - this will be achievable in the next month;
More cycling - I'm a fairly fair weather cyclist and having teens means I'm driving more than cycling, but I'd love to be cycling more.
Increase daily steps

Longer term
Try out rowing at the rowing club near me (sea rowing);
Once I am below 95kg I would like to take some horse riding lessongs;
I would also like to learn to sail a small boat solo - there is a sailing club not far away but I need to be lighter/stronger to be able to be agile on the boat - next spring I'd love to be sailing.

Ooh yes, me too. I used to go to a hot yoga class and loved that, but doing tai chi at home at the moment as I'm not ready to have a stranger's head so close to my arse when it's this enormous. Stupid really, I should just go. I do feel like life is on hold until I have lost weight, which isn't a great perspective I don't think. I need to live in the moment a bit more and stop figuring out when I might hit various milestones and then counting the days 🤦‍♀️

gimmemounjaro · 07/10/2024 13:57

I would also love to do some rowing and sailing @RobinEllacotStrike . And maybe riding, although it's quite expensive around here and I am a bit scared of horses 😬

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/10/2024 14:09

there are lots of large bodied yoga teachers on SM these days - working hard to represent and shake off the idea that yoga is for the slim and bendy & also showing lots of amendments to accommodate large boobs/bellies/butts/thighs etc.

People often dismiss yoga but I find regular practice has helped my strength and flexibility immensely even being over 110 kilos.

I took my kids to riding lessons for years and really really wanted to do it myself - but I was always well over the rider weight limit. Now they no longer ride but I'd love to.

I don't know where my sailing dreams come from but I really love the idea of sailing a small one woman boat & maybe racing it too.

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/10/2024 14:11

@gimmemounjaro even when I was much slimmer I've always been the largest person in every single yoga class I've ever been to since I took it up 27 years ago 😁😁

I still have no fucks to give about this 😂

just do it!

Orangesandlemons77 · 07/10/2024 14:33

maybe I will just go for it, I like the body balance classes at the local gym.

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/10/2024 14:47

Just do it - take up that space!!

Yoga will help strengthen your core, become more flexiable and strong, plus you always feel fantastic & relaxed after a yoga class which improves everything.

Hot yoga is pretty amazing if you can access that - plus its mostly in a dark dimly lit space isn't it?

Yes, hot yoga is really nice. The heat helps you to stretch further, it's dark, sweaty, lovely. There's a variety of classes from relaxing stretchy ones to more cardio flow ones, plus occasional workshops on balance poses / hip openers etc etc. Maybe I'll go back once I've finished C25k. I could replace a run or two with some yoga, I used to like the Sunday evening class, very chilled 🧘‍♀️

Doobi · 07/10/2024 15:27

Morning,

Following weigh in this morning, I've lost a total of 11.1kg since 23rd August. I'm more then happy with that.

I'm hoping to start TTC possibly early next year. I've been putting too much pressure on myself to lose X amount by Mid January.

I think I'm going to take a step back and re-evaluate what is realistic. Initially I wanted to lose a further 15kg by then but in hindsight that's a lot- so instead I would like to lose 10kg.

I would have started to come off Mounjaro by then and hopefully manage things with diet and continue to lose as able.

I have a meeting for a pre conception appointment this afternoon to discuss everything, relevant to my current medication and past medical history.

Orangesandlemons77 · 07/10/2024 16:01

Oh, that sounds exciting Doobi fingers crossed for you with that.

I just had a bath and noticed my tummy is kind of subsiding, with a crease along it presumably from the weight loss. I already have a laparotomy scar running up and down, so this now adds to that and makes it a bit like a hot cross bun.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 07/10/2024 19:19

I start Mounjaro on Weds. Someone has just recommended this thread.

gimmemounjaro · 07/10/2024 19:36

Welcome @Midlifecrisisxamillion Smile

I'm also on a thread based on when I started (mid July) but in some ways prefer this one as everyone has more to lose. So there tends not to be posts about moving on to maintenance after losing 2 stone in a couple of months (not that there is anything wrong with that but just a very different experience).

I started with about 6 stone to lose and have lost about 2 so far, expecting the rest to take at least 6 months.

Thank you. 2 stone so far is amazing. Well done.

Hi all

I realise this thread has been active for a few months but could I please join?

I've around 6/7 stone to lose to be in healthy BMI bracket. Been watching your losses for a while - it's so impressive and motivating! I loved the comment about settling in for the ride, it's so true and it's a lifestyle commitment now.

I'm mid-late thirties, a few months postpartum with baby number 2 and a massive emotional eater (triggered by death of my lovely mum around 10 years ago). I'm hoping to lose weight for good this time on MJ to be healthy for my kids. Hope these threads will give me inspiration and accountability!!

I'm due to take my 3rd 2.5mg dose of MJ on Wednesday, after zero loss on week 1 which was disheartening. But it's a marathon!

How on earth do you get prescribed MJ if you only need to lose 2 stone? You'd have to be an actual dwarf for 2 stone over to give you a BMI of 30+!

She said she had 6 to lose and has lost 2 so far.

BingoWingsOverScotland · 07/10/2024 20:29

Yes but also that on the July thread there are a lot of people who only needed to lose 2 in the first place. I wasn't talking about @gimmemounjaro.

Update

Start date 02/05/2024
SW: 19st 4.2lb
CW: 16st 13.6lb

Argh I'm lighter than I was 2 years ago!!!!! Just wanted to share my victory as I've been stuck in the 17s for what feels like FOREVER!

BingoWingsOverScotland · 07/10/2024 20:37

Oh that's brilliant! Well done you!

I'm a bit stalled at the moment but I hope to be back on a downward trend soon. Building work going on at home and I'm finding it very stressful. I'm trying not to retreat into comfort eating, and mostly I haven't, also when I have it's been way less than it was before. Like I'm comfort eating fruit, which feels weird.

My taste buds have completely changed too. I'd much rather have a muller rice or a cheese string instead of chocolate now 🤔

I don't come on the thread very often, mainly because I am losing weight slowly and it's a bit disheartening seeing people losing 10lb+ a month. But it is nice to check in every now and again!

Well done @RMNofTikTok!

Thank you! Still many more stones to go yet 🫣

gimmemounjaro · 07/10/2024 21:11

I did ask one person that question @BingoWingsOverScotland and they said they had another condition (high cholesterol I think) and therefore the cutoff was BMI 27 and they were just above it. So they could be eg 5'4" and 11.5 stone for example 🤷‍♀️

After that I figured it was none of my business. I've seen some people on here openly admit to lying to get it prescribed though.

I'm all for everyone losing weight and getting healthy but much prefer to hang out on this thread where people are in a similar journey to me.

BingoWingsOverScotland · 07/10/2024 21:44

I agree. I really value everyone's input on this thread. It feels so much more personal. Thank you to everyone.
