Continuing Mounjaro...part 14

ObsidianTree · 21/06/2024 18:50

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

Just to add to my post. I've been thinking back to my previous efforts to loose weight and found out an old slimming world book to compare how I have done over a three month period with SW compared to with MJ.

SW an 8lb loss
MJ a 30lb loss.

I can confidently say with SW that whole time I would have been fighting the constant hunger and cravings to eat too much or the wrong foods but with MJ it is so much easier. There really is no comparison in my view.

I wonder how long it will be before SW or WW's try to incorporate a GLP-1 into their eating plan/consultations?

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 25/06/2024 09:51

What an amazing difference @susiedaisy1912

I found some old notes on one of my previous attempts before covid when I was around 188lbs. I think I managed to lose about 3lbs before gaining it back several times over. I love MJ

DreamingofGinoclock · 25/06/2024 09:54

ObsidianTree · 25/06/2024 08:50

Do you know how many servings it has? Thanks

Ah pants I didn't look sorry...that would be key ...it was in one of the round plastic tubs

WW already has! In the USA at least

That's ok! I can probably find it online easily enough 😊

OP posts:
BlackFriYay · 25/06/2024 09:57

@ObsidianTree it's about 250g so 10 servings.

I get the one from ProteinWorks and its 500g for 20 servings.

I want to try the peach one from sainsburys but they don't stock it at my local atm.

Just found the vimto one. On sainsburys with nectar price it's £12! On Myprotein the same thing is £22! Myprotein are taking the piss!

To much information so do not read if queasy.

This morning had a number 2 and one tiny bit was like white the rest normal. Looked like was covered in chalk.

Dr google says pale is linked to gall bladder but this was a small lump. Looked white like covered in chalk.

Panicking that its gall bladder or pancreas issues but also another thought was I have used hemeorroid cream could it be that.

Trying to do an econsult. Wondering if could add a picture to that.

guestusername · 25/06/2024 10:22

MedExpress emailed me to say they noted that I didn’t want to go up a dose and to check that it was correct

I'm no doctor but the simplest answer is usually the right one. If you've used hemorrhoid cream and it's just one small part I'd be inclined to think it was that.

Stop the hemorrhoid cream for a few days and keep an eye on your next couple of bowel movements. If it happens again then by all means raise it with your GP.

Does Voy notify people when someone uses their discount code?

RunningAndSinging · 25/06/2024 11:15

WW has a GLP1 plan already.

Sulphur burps for me for the first time today - oh joy. Got away without them for 3 1/2 pens. Hope it won’t last.

imnottoofussed · 25/06/2024 11:15

Is that sainsburys protein not a smaller tub? It's only got 10 servings in the combo one for £12 but on myprotein it's 20 servings for £21.17 so it's cheaper at myprotein

Also noticed they now do 35 servings tubs in some of the flavours

Sabblue · 25/06/2024 11:22

Did anyone order from e surgery? looks like they are the cheapest for 10mg pens (£144) but I think I read somewhere that they don't send this in cold package? can anyone confirm?
or planet pharmacy?
Thanks!

ObsidianTree · 25/06/2024 11:24

@imnottoofussed ah ok. It's not clear the qty on my protein website.

OP posts:
imnottoofussed · 25/06/2024 11:28

@ObsidianTree I only noticed as I do actually weigh mine when I make it each day so know that 26.1g is 1 portion

I got 3 tubs last time I ordered but if I see a bargain I'm going to buy some more.

The boots £19 Tuesday would be slightly cheaper so I'll keep my eye out for that

I have just ordered from them after being recommended them on last thread. The package wasn't that cold tbh- however- I used the 24 hour delivery. Brilliant service and received the 7.5mg the next morning. As I was advised, u should sign up to them before ordering and u will get a 10% code for your first order. Also got a 15% discount for next order in the box which I haven't tried to use yet.

RunningAndSinging · 25/06/2024 11:44

What was delivery charge with e surgery?

summerlovingvibes · 25/06/2024 11:45

@Sabblue looks like the weather in the UK is going to cool a little the next couple of days so hopefully that will help with your order.

@CherryCinnamon thanks for the info - think I'll order from here next time at that price!

That's interesting about WW I didn't realise that.

RunningAndSinging · 25/06/2024 11:59

I did the WW plan for a few weeks at the beginning when I wasn’t getting much appetite suppression and it is all about eating enough protein and vegetables and drinking enough water and exercising. But I felt it wasn’t helpful as I had no problem eating what I needed to and there were no restrictions on other food. Maybe it would be more useful now.

Thank you! can I just check, was there ice pack inside the package? are they easy to swap to? just need pic of the current pen etc? Thanks!

CherryCinnamon · 25/06/2024 12:10

Hi. e surgery we're really easy to swap to- no issues at all. I paid for the most expensive delivery- Royal Mail guaranteed by 1pm next day (£7.95, I think). There were cheaper options, but I had just had a saga delivery from another supplier so wasn't messing about this time! There was a gel pack in the envelope, not that cold, but it arrived so quickly and looks fine. It also has an excellent expiry date (April 25).
