Continuing Mounjaro...part 14

ObsidianTree · 21/06/2024 18:50

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

Zava medical:

FINALLY got under 12st this morning. Seemed like it took forever. I took my first 10mg on Saturday and thankfully don't seem to be unwell as feared. Feel a little nauseous, but nothing too bad.

I'm a couple of pounds off a 4st loss so I'll be really happy when I reach that target. I'll still have 2st minimum to go after that for a healthy bmi so still a long way to go!

Congratulations! Great milestone.

Bas16 · 24/06/2024 10:42

@BlackFriYay @TheOverweightFortySomething hi both, I got excited as had email from Zava, but all it said was -
Thank you for sending us a message with your images attached.
We've received these and will have one of our team review them as soon as possible

@RagzRebooted thanks, I'll chase more today. A bit annoying that they are sending these out to pre-existing / previous customers - clearly not for the 2.5mg dose but then automatically taking the money and wanting to send 2.5 out?

Anyway, will keep chasing.

Did they let you sue the 44% off for your 10mg dose then?

Yes they said they'd re-apply the discount. For some reason they had to refund and then charge again for the next order despite the price being the same.

easterbuns1 · 24/06/2024 10:46

Thank you both, my brain wasn't braining this morning so that was the one I was after @susiedaisy1912. I had in fact got my maths right for the extra 1.25 I wanted.

I've already ordered a second 5mg pen but wanted to use the extra to increase a small amount.

FlappyFish · 24/06/2024 10:48

@KrankyKumquat Thank you for the Renpho tip. I’ve managed to put them into stone and pounds and recalibrated them. They are back to making me lighter. As my OH would say: have you read the manual? 🤦🏻‍♀️

@PissedOffNeighbour22 Whoot! Amazing progress and I will bang on forever and a day for slow and steady wins the race.

@WannabeHealthier OMG same. SO my Mum has always said you just have the xxx side of the family legs. Xxxx girls always carry their weight there. Turns out when we actually lose weight we don’t. I’m never going to have the slimmest legs but I now don’t mind seeing them. Wearing short skirts or something mid thigh won’t ever happen. It’s just not me.

Yes I had one those yesterday. Checked today and still processing.

ObsidianTree · 24/06/2024 11:13

Had an email from family chemist saying 15mg now in stock. I don't use them but they like emailing me anyway!

I'm no way ready for 15mg, but if anyone is, looks like it will be about soon

NSV I'm wearing some suit trousers that've I've not worn in years but sadly they are now too big and hanging off me. First and last wear today I think!

InspectorGidget · 24/06/2024 11:27

Hi! I am tentatively moving over from the newbies group.

I've just used @GrimDamnFanjo code for ZAVA for a double pen order to get the max £30 off :)

I'm 15lbs down after 7 weeks so no crazy losses for me. I moved up to the 5mg pen and plan to stay at 5mg for a few weeks until after holidays and start eeking out the pens - the numan website says the pens can be used for 6 weeks so I'll need to order some of the needles.

SW 236lbs
CW 211lbs
GW 154lbs (which is still considered overweight at 26.5 BMI Confused)

Does anyone combine MJ with exercise? I used to be super fit but a hip replacement got in the way. I plan to start couch to 5k soon and am back at spin / body pump.

Good to know. I am contemplating a 15mg order from Bolt to get me back on their books (I started with them) while my BMI is still over 27 (I have - hopefully now that's had!- high cholesterol so am eligible for Mounjaro from 27.

I haven't actually taken anything higher than a 10mg dose but have a 12.5mg in the fridge. I doubt I will get onto 15mg but could do 7 x 10mg doses from it and it costs the same as a 12.5mg pen.

This week I did 2 x 5mg doses across the week and it suited me much better than my 10mg all in one go dose the previous week. Or maybe I am already used to 10mg - who knows. I may try 10mg in one dose again this week to see how it goes. I could afford another day of wipeout this coming weekend if it doesn't go well.

ObsidianTree · 24/06/2024 11:33

@Choux yes this is what I'm thinking. It's the same price as 12.5mg so best get the 15mg instead. When I eventually get there!

I have ordered a 12.5mg pen now as I wanted one at least! I like all the colour boxes in my fridge 🤣 so will probably get a 15mg in a month or so to complete the set 🤣. Although I don't have and 5mg or 2.5mg boxes!

I just watched the South Park ozempic episode last night.

what an absolute riot!

All those MILFS were going to be in a bad way though, mixing their ones up and injecting whatever strength anyone turned up with all over the place!

ObsidianTree · 24/06/2024 11:44

@Choux I went down to 7.5mg week before last and felt it wasn't enough, so tried 8.25mg last week and it's exhausted me and killed my appetite. No diarrhea though so happy about that. I think I'll give 8.25mg another week and see if the exhaustion subsides. Also think I want to move my injection day to Monday so that I can hopefully eat and enjoy more on the weekend!

TheGoddessFrigg · 24/06/2024 11:44

What has really annoyed me is that you can't just have the injection then load up on McDonalds and ice cram sundaes. It has to go along with a radical diet/lifestyle change. It's not some sort of cheat or easy way out.
Before, it seemed like the weight was just stuck there, and I felt stuck. Seeing even a small amount of kgs come off now has really motivated me.

I did have concerns at how often they were having these injection parties! I felt like it was everyday! Very bad! Lol

This is interesting, as Med Express also say pens are safe to use for 6 weeks after starting. Makes me feel more confident about making them last longer during maintenance.

It’s definitely not a magic medicine- you have to put the work in and make sure you are eating a balanced diet for sure- this is the only way to lose weight and keep it off. There’s little room in your calorie allowance to eat fast food when you need to meet protein and nutritional goals (I don’t want to lose any hair!)

If there was a pill which enabled you to eat junk food without putting weight on, it would definitely be popular… but it wouldn’t be at all healthy!

I’m surprised you still want to eat McDonald’s and sundaes though- I have no interest. I am craving nutritious, fresh food on MJ. Very little interest in alcohol too which is weird!

butterfly0404 · 24/06/2024 13:18

Day 3 after 1st dose, didn't even think about breakfast this morning, usually I'd be hitting a large bowl of Muesli but today I managed a protein shake about 10am in the car on my work journey.

Just had a banana and 2 slices of parma ham and I'm feeling stuffed to the gills. This is nothing short of miraculous but longevity is the key I guess.

Starting weight 86.4kg, will weigh on Friday which will be one week on from first dose.

FastGoose · 24/06/2024 13:41

I've seen it all now!
A lady on Facebook asking for advice about her 2 week long constipation... And someone's recommended some sugar free gummy bears from Lidl?!

Flapearedknave · 24/06/2024 13:41

Habitual have just emailed to tell me they are offering 25% to go back to them! GREAT...

Or not, it's more expensive than the others even with the discount 🤦🏼‍♀️
