Thought id start a thread for anyone starting in July given we are almost there. I've just ordered tonight with Voy, hoping I get approved and will be able to start next week.

I'm a little apprehensive as some of my eating habits are emotionally driven not hunger! So I'm going to need to find some will power too. That's why I've gone with a company that provides support as well as just medication.

Anyone fancy joining along?

My starting weight is 18st 1lb and I'm 5ft 5 so I've ALOT to loose.

Checking in:
I did my 3rd injection yesterday and at my weigh in this morning I am 3kg down from SW.

I’m thrilled with that. My BMI is 33, so I still have a way to go, but I can feel the difference in my body already. It’s come straight off my menopausal belly.

No side effects so far. I’m not calorie counting, I’m just listening to my body more. My body seems to crave salad and veg more than I expected! I have also noticed true hunger pangs. I think consuming less obviously means that I get properly hungry so it feels like a sensation to really notice and respond to. I don’t think I’ve been promoted to eat by hunger for years - I’ve been eating to schedule, for reward or for comfort.

This is very interesting 🤔

Curious about people's goal weights.

I've noticed most seem to want to drop to a BMI of 22. I can understand that and it's clearly achievable on MJ

What about maintenance though?

I know that a BMI of 26/27 is sustainable for me and I feel good on it - I weight training and am muscular so am probably a bit skewed BMI wise anyway.

I feel like I'm alone in not striving for a 'healthy' BMI so am just curious about what you're all doing.

I've a stone and a half to my goal, my plan is to continue the MJ after, but to increase my calories a bit and really focus more on nutrition and weight lifting to maximise my strength.

SilenceInside · 29/07/2024 10:31

@NewLifter my final goal weight is around a BMI of 23-25, although it's a very long way away! I've only ever been under that once when I was in my early 20s and I had very limited and disordered eating at that point. I don't think it would be sustainable for me now in my late 40s, eating healthily.

Lumirubin · 29/07/2024 10:42

@NewLifter I'm aiming for a BMI of 29ish. Which I know is still "overweight" but tbh I think BMI is a load of tosh! And I would look silly much less than that. I've always weighed much heavier than I look. For example my starting weight was 18st 1, but I wear size 16 jeans. People carry weight SO differently and BMI doesn't account for that

Same @newlifter - I'd be happy with a BMI around 27. I only once in my life dipped below 25 and the photos make me flinch, I looked so ill. I look better a bit heavier, but more importantly it's totally unrealistic for me to expect to maintain a lower weight for any length of time. I have been overweight or obese my whole life (except for the aforementioned loss from a shake-based VCLD) and it's not possible for me to think I could stay at 25 or below now I'm in my 40s. I'm hoping to reset my weight at a point lower than obese and to try to make sure I'm building muscle and staying active and eating the most nutritious diet I can. I'm an hourglass shape so as long as I can get my waist circumference down and watch my belly fat, my weight is normally fairly evenly distributed and I'd be happy to be mid-size and curvy rather than plus-size and blobby. But I'll never be slim!

NewLifter · 29/07/2024 11:21

AHH interesting to hear you guys feel the same way 😀 I have lost weight enough times to know that maintenance is the real challenge and where the hard work starts.

I lost a lot on WW many years ago and was pressured to get below BMI of 25 to get gold status and free classes. My period stopped and I was TTC, I was a size 8 (down from a 24) and at 5 foot 9, I really was skinny. But no muscle, metabolism was shot, was freezing and absolutely miserable, starving myself, taking laxatives and water tablets daily etc. Had to gain a stone to feel better so couldn't go to WW anymore as I was ashamed to lose 'gold' after a big celebration after I got it. Maintained there for ages, even with a pregnancy, only gained these three stone due to recent injury and intense stress, both of which stopped me working out for ages.

Can't let myself get like that again!

NewLifter · 29/07/2024 11:22

I completely agree that BMI isn't such a big thing, it's fine as a general guide but shouldn't be obsessed on!

Lumirubin · 29/07/2024 11:22

Just done my Monday weigh, this is my first 6 weeks of weights

Starting - 18 st 1lb
Week 1- 17st 8lb (-7lbs)
Week 2 - 17st 2lb (-6lbs)
Week 3 - 16st 11lbs (-5lbs)
Week 4 - 16st 7lbs (-4lbs)
Week 5 - 16st 4lbs (- 3lbs)

So losses are definitely slowing, but that's expected. I'm still chuffed to bits with how much I'm loosing and how much better I feel in myself. Also feeling so positive about my relationship with food having changed so much!

It is interesting, I'm 5'10 and at a bmi of 25 I'm a size 14!

NewLifter · 29/07/2024 14:31

Wow! It's amazing how we all carry out weight differently! My current BMI is 30 and I'm wearing a 14!

Yes it is, mine is 31 as it stands and I'm a 20! Bit jealous, I won't lie 🤣🤣

NewLifter · 29/07/2024 14:42

Gosh that's wild! I'm not sure which of us is the unusual one 😂 at my heaviest, I was BMI of 42 and a size 22

Lumirubin · 29/07/2024 15:03

I have really negative associations with BMI because I didn't qualify for NHS fertility treatment because my BMI wasn't below 30, it was 31. I was a size 12, running 3 times a week, healthiest I've ever been but none of that mattered. Literally only a number on the scales mattered to them. Luckily we could afford private treatment for which the BMI threshold is 35 and we have my DD. But I all but starved myself for a year trying to get the number on the scales to go down, I just got slimmer and changed shape without loosing any actual weight. So I completely ignore BMI (except now if I want a sibling round I need to be under 35 and I'm currently just above!, but I'm not sure I do so I'm not stressing)

NewLifter · 29/07/2024 15:08

That is absolutely disgusting, I'm so sorry that happened to you. I had IVF many years ago and had a similar experience, but was told to get my BMI under 35 which I did, then they changed the goalposts and decided it needed to be under 30, mine was 31 - I then was put away back down the list. The system is very cruel!

Summerheels · 29/07/2024 15:14

Yeah I’m another one who would look ill under a bmi 25. I’m short and muscly thighs run, cycle,& swim weekly. I’ve started MJ at bmi32, interestingly my eldest 17DD would be just into a overweight BMI as she too is v.short wears a size 6 competes at a national level in her sport she is pure muscle & has a washboard stomach she’s very strong.

Lumirubin · 29/07/2024 15:17

Sorry you experienced the same @NewLifter it's a very broken system! And getting worse now one umbrella company owns most of the UK clinics.

I think all these examples just go to show how outdated BMI is. I hope there aren't people out there who would benefit from MJ struggling to get it because of a stupid irrelevant number!

TurningPointe · 29/07/2024 15:23

I am actually the other way, just to show how skewed BMI is. I am most definitely unhealthily overweight at 25 BMI, and I know I need to aim for lower, and much more importantly, make sure my waist measurement does not put me in an at risk category.

It just shows how very different our bodies are.

Mounjarome · 29/07/2024 16:11

Hello all I’m new here tried to order mounjaro zava declined me after I paid and sent in my photos they said I didn’t meet the threshold for weight my weight is 71.4 height 154cm so bmi is 30.1 any ideas? You can’t put decimals on their site so I think I put either 71 or 72 but the scales clearly showed 71.4
guess I will have to try medexpress anyone use them and have a code?

Lumirubin · 29/07/2024 16:55

@Mounjarome voy dont ask for a scales pic, just a body pic. So you could say whatever you want to say about your weight. I can PM you a discount code if you want

Feeling very frustrated today. When I weighed myself this morning I'd gained the 2lb that I lost last week!
Hopefully it was a blip and it will be back down again tomorrow, especially as I'm eating much less than my daily calorie allowance on my fitness pal.

On the plus side, my face looks a little slimmer (to me at least) and I have more energy, less brain fog and not getting out of breath so quickly on my morning commute.

Getting my first 5mg pen tomorrow but I'm a little concerned that 5 will be too strong for me. Has anyone tried just having like 3 or 4mg? How would I do that? What would I turn the dial to?

Mounjarome · 29/07/2024 21:36

It’s bizarre though as I meet the weight criteria so a bmi of 30 or more mine is 30.1 so is over 30. I have now tried med express will see if they allow it!
