Continuing Mounjaro... Thread 12

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

Hello and thank you for new thread :)
Haven't weighed today as my scales at home are so rubbish you literally can move them an inch and get a different result :( need to find a decent pair if anyone here has any recommendations please.
I'm due injection number 2 today , really enjoyed the first week with minimal symptoms and loved the kit constantly wanting to eat junk like crisps or biscuits as soon as I wake up with my coffee

AgathaMystery · 06/06/2024 10:30

Ahhh thread TWELVE!!!

ObsidianTree · 06/06/2024 10:31

Images that may be useful.

Thanks to whoever created the chart with price list from Reddit that I've pinched😊

I've updated our price list also

Thanks for the new thread.

I'm excited to start 10mg this evening. Hoping it accelerates my weight loss. Only lost 11lbs in 3 months, so not as much as most of the people on these threads. And yes I am in a calorific deficit, drinking 3 litres of water a day and minimising carbs. My weight is just stubborn and I'm definitely insulin resistant, so I'm trusting the process and can see changes on my body as I'm losing inches and my tummy is a LOT flatter than it was when I started in March.

Anyone else on 10mg yet?

DragonflyRuby · 06/06/2024 10:52

Thanks for the new thread!

I had such a drop in suppression after dose 4 of 2.5mg I took the full bonus dose 2 days later, expecting some serious suppression/side effects but sadly still got a lot of food noise and little suppression which is weird considering how well it worked for the first few weeks. I am still getting full quicker when eating but not like it was.

I have a 5mg to move onto this weekend so hoping that will be a bit more powerful!

Has anyone else found it worked well for the first few weeks and then stopped being as effective? I’m worried my body has got used to it!

The 2.5 dose is just a dose to get your body used to the medicine, it's not a therapeutic dose. When you start 5mg+ I bet you will feel the effects again. The jump from 2.5 to 5 is quite big as its double so your body will definitely feel it again. I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks. I suppose I thought that the 2 x 2.5 doses this week would be a big jump as I only did them 2 days apart but maybe the dose from the 5mg pen will be stronger!

AgathaMystery · 06/06/2024 11:08

Dosing 2 days apart isn’t the best idea… the dose isn’t at its peak until 72hrs post injection. You didn’t give it enough time.

I would strongly urge you to re-read all the literature. The dosing schedule is there for your own safety.

Me tomorrow! Although I accidentally overdosed to 15/16mg last week and it was magnificent!
I am probably going to be really disappointed with 10mg!

Thanks for the new thread!

I feel like I’m the opposite of everyone, I actually am thinking of ordering another 2.5 pen and staying on that for the next month too. I have the suppression and the steady weight loss (so far at least), so don’t feel I need to dose up.

Has anyone done this via medexpress? Would they allow me to stay on 2.5?

Stickthatupyourdojo · 06/06/2024 11:22

Settling in on the new thread by stating my NSV. I'm not horrified by how I look on the doorbell camera anymore - well I still look really angry at ease but a lot smaller and angry Grin

As teh 2.5mg and 5mg are the same price you might be better off getting a 5mg, you can always do half doses to start but that way if you find that after another couple of weeks it's starting to wear off you have the option to move up.

Haha how did you do that?

I've seen some of the American posters on reddit refer to 15mg as the magic dose.

Exitstrategist · 06/06/2024 11:29

.

3wDavid · 06/06/2024 11:34

@lurkylurk how do people half the doses though? I'm not sure I can manage it...Is it a case of just twisting the pen half-way, i.e. you won't see the 1 in the window? Or twisting all the way to 1, and then only pushing in half of it? Not sure I can be trusted with a method this sophisticated

lurkylurk · 06/06/2024 12:04

@3wDavid
To twist to the number 1 is 60 clicks or notches in the pen so half is 30 but if you feel uncomfortable with it get the 2.5mg pen

The boss is back ❤️

Although Flappy has done a fab job!

Well. I'm 10st 1.8. That gives me a bmi of 25.1. I'm happy and pissed off at the same time!!!

Have one more 5mg dose on this pen. Now need to decide if I'll use the 7.5 to titrate down. I'm hoping to go down to 9st 10 - I don't know if that's sustainable to maintain. I'll be honest, staying at 10lb has always been my goal so I'm just thinking I'll give myself some leeway.

I'm just worried about getting to 15mg and it working for a while and then stopping working and there is no where else to go!

But I guess if that's where most lose the weight then it makes sense to work up to that

I'm now on 10mg and I feel like it isn't having much effect. There's less appetite suppression for me
