There are so many weight loss injection threads, but I thought I'd start this for anyone feeling a bit deflated by their slower than average loses. It can be disheartening to see others losing multiple lbs per week when it is a slower process for some.

@SnacklessWonder I had absolutely no side effects going to 5mg, its 7.5 that's caused me problems.
I've just stopped at the shop on the way home and bought a bottle I know I like so hope i enjoy a glass or two later.

@Ifyounevergiveup hoping you come along before too long with your voice of reason to help me decide what I'm going to dosage I'm going to do this evening 🙌

NavigatingMounjaro · 13/09/2024 16:47

Thanks to every it for your comments. It’s good to know I’m not alone! 😌

Ifyounevergiveup · 13/09/2024 17:26

@Pinkyp22 Hope I’m not too late 😆

I know it’s toying with the formula, but you could consider doing two doses over the week especially if you’re under the weather. I wouldn’t split the dose in half because that will drop the level of Mj already in your system and you don’t want to go backwards. I think if I were in your shoes and feeling crap I’d go for 48 clicks - that is a 0.48ml dose of 7.5mg strength, equalling 6mg so you’re still getting more Mj than from the 5 pen. Then you could leave it three days and follow up with the other 12 clicks, assuming you feel ok. That would mean you’d still have had the full dose in the week, just staggered. If you felt ok you could then still keep to your usual injection day. I think you’re right not to miss a dose. Hope this helps…! Keep us posted.

@SnacklessWonder yep, Mj might not strip my weight but it’s really efficient at stripping the joy from food…! Enjoy those chips. Fwiw I too was genuinely apprehensive about going to 5mg. Felt daft when I had absolutely no side effects at all…I would say I hope it’s the same for you except that I’m starting to think no side effects = no effects at all 😬

Edited cos I forgot to tag Pinky grr. What a technophobe.

Pinkyp22 · 13/09/2024 17:32

@Ifyounevergiveup that is actually a good idea, im getting more than 5, but not afraid because I havnt had 7.5, top up if all goes well. Im going to do that, so 48 clicks after dinner

hurrah! Let us know how you go on x

Pinkyp22 · 13/09/2024 19:04

@Ifyounevergiveup
I was brave and have done 50 clicks = 6.25 (hopefully my math is correct)

I am still mad that this is so slow for me, having a real wobble today.

Oh me too Pinky, it’s sheer perversity that’s keeping me going.

i did have an idea and emailed my provider to say, look, you must see hundreds of weight photos etc, if it hasn’t worked by 7.5mg, in your experience does it ever kick in?

I know it’s in their interests to keep us buying but frankly I doubt they need the business and I’m hoping they’ll have a view. I’ll let you know what they say.

Ifyounevergiveup · 13/09/2024 19:22

@Pinkyp22 and more importantly than anything else…well done, brave soldier!

I was wondering what you were up to!

That’s a good idea. I remember one of the contributors on the main thread contacted them about cold and warm pens and they did answer her. I’ll do a quick google and see what I can find.

Sorry for the stress…but great loss and you know what I’m going to ask…what did you do differently?!

LeafUsAlone · 13/09/2024 21:37

@Ifyounevergiveup mostly I added in a yoghurt and an apple at work 🤷‍♀️ and then I only ate half my sandwich because I wasnt hungry

@NavigatingMounjaro I’m afraid eating less is the only answer I’ve come across and frankly that doesn’t work much. I have lost less than you at the same weight: 12 stone 3 to 11 stone 9 since mid June. I started off eating 1300 calories because allegedly my resting caloric need is 1200, so I figured any and all activity would be deficit calories. Then I reduced to 1100 because I was getting nowhere. This week (it’s Thursday)I’ve averaged 1000 calories a day. Still no weight loss. Frankly I’ve got to the stage where I don’t expect to lose any weight. Being the completer finisher that I am, I won’t stop until 15mg has also failed (I’m currently on 7.5mg so someway to go) after all, my brain would convince itself that if I’d only finished the course it would have worked. But I have no faith left in the process. I’ve come off the main thread because it’s making me bitter and I don’t want to be, I want to be happy for losers. But it’s hard. If I were eating this little off Mj I’d be losing weight hand over fist. So wtf? The only upside is I’m not hungry. But why would that matter when I’m not thinner, either?

I feel exactly the same and I’m on 12.5mg. It’s so frustrating isn’t it!

CormorantStrikesBack · 13/09/2024 21:43

So today I’ve eaten

a low fat yoghurt
3x ryvita and 2 slices of cheese (and some low fat spread)
baked salmon fillet with lemon juice and half a baked potato with low fat spread.

thats it. I am hungry but it’s manageable I guess.

I'm estimating about 800 very healthy calories. No one could accuse you of not trying…!

Thank you, i probably should have had some fruit or veg 😁

StaySpicy · 13/09/2024 22:40

I'm sure I read something like you're building up to the "proper" dose so would see best results on the max dose, rather than the lesser doses. I'll see if I can find it again. It may explain why some seem to lose more slowly - we're not losing through being sick or other symptoms? I don't know. I'm just happy I've lost something, and I don't think a stone since the end of April is too bad (although I was despondent at the beginning).

I've taken my first 2.4mg this evening, which is the Wegovy top dose. I've lost 16lbs in 21 weeks and am aiming for another 12lbs by Christmas. I think I'll have to stop then due to expense but I'm hoping for better eating habits to be ingrained!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I did also contact the Curate pharmacist and they responded with the below:

Ifyounevergiveup · 14/09/2024 09:51

@StaySpicy This makes me happy because you sound so balanced and reasonable compared to in my own head! You go!

@NavigatingMounjaro now that’s interesting. I know from my smart scales that I have maintained my muscle while losing what weight I have shifted, so my fat body % has fallen from 49 to 43 while my muscle mass has gone in the other direction (yes, I did nearly die when they told me I was almost half fat!). I have done that deliberately, trying to eat much more protein than I usually would and exercising even though I feel pretty drained much of the time. If that’s the reason for my slow loss then I can live with it; I’m 58 and have to prioritise strength over weight. You have cheered me up no end.

I did promise to @Pinkyp22 in particular that I’d feed back on my second 7.5 Mj dose, taken on Thursday night. Well, let’s put it this way, the Imodium came in useful again last night! But I took it after one bout of 💩 and there was no recurrence. There was, however, terrific wind. So Windeze are on my shopping list. Once I have those I think the side effects will be entirely manageable. But the big news is, I finally lost another pound so I’m down to 11 stone 8, having lost 11lb now in 11 weeks. So maybe Mj works as long as I average 1000 calories a day and no more?! Honestly, it’s a bloody expensive and, now the side effects have found me, unpleasant way of shifting weight; I wish those who chunter about cheating had any idea. But one thing has occurred to me; since starting in June there hasn’t been a single week when I’ve gained weight and I used to be up and down like a rollercoaster. So that’s something…

Let us know how you feel on your split dose this week, Pinky! Have a lovely weekend, everyone! Onwards and downwards 😉

Azuresky68 · 14/09/2024 10:20

Morning all. I'm so glad I found your group and Mumsnet..never been on it before. I promise I won't do a long post like this again but didn't know which bit to leave out. I started on MJ 3 weeks ago, took my 4th dose last night, and spent the evening reading this entire thread from July to now. Great appetite suppression, but I am going up to 5 next time as my understanding is that 2 5 is the therapeutic dose to get used to medication. I expected slow weight losses as I am 68, now 4 foot 11 (used to be 5 foot and never wanted to get measured again!) and battled with weight all my life. For the first time in 30 years I got down to BMI 25 in lockdown and was delighted. I could go on... and on...and on but I will try not to. I use My Fitness Pal progress tracker with photos, and the visual comparison is a useful tool. 3 weeks in, I have lost 4 pounds, and that included 2 weeks' holiday self-catering. That's a mega result for me - but I can't do it without tracking calories and macros . Last year I lost weight I just couldnt shift. After 2 consultations with a personal trainer who knew his stuff (including degree in nutrition) He worked out my maintenance calories were 1350 and we tested this with me tracking calories for 2 weeks. To lose weight, I ate 1000 cals 5 days a week and maintained cals 2 days a week but was supposed to do HIT exercises on those days (I love walking but hate the gym) It really worked but gradually this year the weight I lost crept back on..I just couldn't face doing 1000 cals again. It was my doctor who mentioned it although she didn't know anything about it. My BMI is 30.1 and I have high blood pressure. She rang me to tell me I wouldn't qualify on NHS which I had guessed. Anyway I took the plunge and decided to start 💉 Hope the info on calorie tracking is useful. I just found out that full length photos are more motivating than scales. Any tips on dealing my obsession with scales greatly appreciated. Photo 1 is recent weight loss with MJ in 3 weeks. Photo 2 is June 2020 at BMI 25 Good luck everyone.

@Ifyounevergiveup just seen your post...on a similar journey now with weight loss probably 1 pound a week. Good luck and don't give up. I know it's expensive but I dread to think how much I have spent over years on WW, SW, gym membership, personal trainers etc, plus all the other stuff to make me feel good! All the very best to everyone. Such a relief to share. Thanks to everyone x

Pinkyp22 · 14/09/2024 10:32

@Ifyounevergiveup
So far so good
I woke up a little hungry so ive had my go to scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and slice of brown toast.
Still feeling that horrible groggy, cold virus but it is definitely not mounjaro so I feel a lot less anxious.
I had two glasses of wine last night ( didn't enjoy as I really didn't fancy it) but I thought I would try and replicate the week I lost most ( afternoon tea and champagne) 🤣 if the wine doesn't work I've told my husband I'll need a bottle of champagne
@SnacklessWonder did you manage to enjoy a glass of wine
