Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Is it ok if I join? Im on the other thread, but I have more to lose and do find myself wondering how to share with people who aren't as heavy as me.
I have over 50kg to lose but I am looking to find a comfortable weight that my body naturally sustains rather than trying to stick to a specific number as I used to do in years gone by! I'm also following intuitive eating rather than dieting, but focusing on self care, gentle nutrition and joyful movement are my main priorities right now.
I'm on week 2 of 0.5 ozempic (prescribed by consultant)

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 06/05/2024 17:01

Just thought I'd pop in and answer a few things (I've lost 35% of my body weight in a year, 5 stone or so, from size 18/20 to 8/10). I'm 51, a short arse and an emotional eater/drinker. Have learnt so much about nutrition and my various reasons for over eating this year. SO excited for you all. This time next year you will be in a very different place.

Hi @Menora hope you are well - do listen to her guys, she knows her stuff! x

Supply once you get smaller: I'm BMI 21 now and about 6lbs from my target. QuickMeds still happy to supply me. I'm a super responder so still on 1.7 Wegovy and looking to come off in the summer.

@Sunfl0wer20 Meal ideas: Can't stress the importance of protein and lots of water enough. I aimed for 60g/day but more often it's around 50g protein. My new best breakfast/lunch friends are low carb wrap with pre cooked flame grilled chicken, or tuna, or prawns, turkey slices or smoked salmon + lots of salads if you are a volume eater. Or wrap "pizza" in the oven with turkey or ham & low fat cheese. Lindahls kvarg or Arla protein yoghurts for a sweet hit. Zero calorie dressings/mayo - yes some are highly processed and some are vile but I'm all about convenience. Dinners I eat normally but focus on protein and I've only wanted "baby portions". Obviously any bread or cheese will do, but I choose to watch carbs + try to be in calorie deficit. I track what I eat most days. A bit boring but I got used to it.

@Lanawashington I've injected up to 48h "too late" on occasion due to supply issues or travel. Not ideal but also not a problem. Effect seems strongest day 3-4 for me, then it tapers off but never got raging hungry.

@user1471530109 Wine - I drank far too much before, and felt re-wired almost over night when I started the jab. I still enjoy a few glasses at the weekend but can take it or leave it. Amazing for my health. Side effects: I had diarrhea a handful of times in the first 3 months, often after a takeaway. Sick once, it was after two cocktails. Constipation a handful of times, easily dealt with (magnesium citrate, dulcoease, werthers sugar free sweets).

Menora · 06/05/2024 18:24

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 hellooo and thanks ☺️

All good at my end I hope all of you are doing ok. Welcome new people.

I am also nearing my goal, 4st 1 down, 10lbs to go

I also drank more before and now I don’t and I am not even on the jabs anymore. It’s such a nice feeling to wake up feeling great it far outweighs a hangover or that crap dehydration feeling in the morning.

Just keep telling yourselves this will be a great summer and use your time wisely to make a good new habit to crack an old one you don’t want anymore

Menora · 06/05/2024 18:26

@TryingAgainAgainAgain i have IBSC and eating a good diet has really had a good impact. I was constipated on Ozempic but I took a stool softener and sometimes a gentle laxative and this helped

WoolyMammoth55 · 07/05/2024 13:05

@Menora congrats on your loss and thanks for being here! When you say you're not on the jabs anymore, does that mean you've stopped Mounjaro (or whatever brand you used) completely, and are now losing just through good habits? If so AMAZING! Please tell me more about how it was for you to come off the jabs - did the cravings not come right back?

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 thanks so much for being here too and all the encouragement and insight! I'm such early days, only 1 jab so far! I have lots to lose (I'd be thrilled with 5 stone obviously! but my goal is more like 8...) and I feel really positive about this - I'm in it for the long-haul, 12-18 months, and it's working great and my side-effects are fine... Hope that continues!

I'm doing a bit of a supplements regime to try to stay on top of my big concerns - hair loss and loose skin. So ordered Biotin per Vanellope's advice 💖and having iron and collagen on alternate days. Also a daily probiotic, and magnesium in the evening for sleep/ preventing aches/ preventing constipation!

I've decided not to track stuff as it makes me a bit triggered and disordered. But I'm doing IF, skipping brekkie and having a late (small) lunch around 3pm, healthy dinner around 6pm, attempting no evening snacks (which used to be my downfall!) No starchy carbs, no sugar, no processed food - except for very occasionally! I'm feeling very little hunger at the moment and generally bright and positive!

Instead of just vegging out sitting on the sofa with DH after the kids are asleep I've been doing little romantic discos in the living room 😄and the nights he's out I'm taking myself up to bed early to watch tv or meditate - lights out by 10pm either way.

I haven't done much healthy movement so far this week sadly (I'm wfh so can go days without leaving the house) but am aiming for 3x a week initially - either a nice long walk, a tai chi video, yoga on youtube or going out to a dance class (but that requires DH to put both kids to bed solo and he's not wildly keen on that - may need to build up to that one!) Once 3x a week feels manageable I'll aim to up that to 5x!

Hope everyone's going well today, thanks again all for the support and solidarity - I really do feel like the next 12 months will be life-changing for us all!

AppleCherryBlossom · 07/05/2024 15:24

I'm on the other chat but would also like to join this one as I have about 9 and a half stone to lose.
Just finished my first week of 5mg.

Weeks 3 and 4 on 2.5 were tricky with the food cravings coming back but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Some people may find slow losses and stalls disheartening so just wanted to show that it does eventually come off. 9lbs in 5 weeks feels slow, but I keep telling myself that if I had stopped I probably would have got depressed and angry at myself for failing again, eaten a mountain of food to numb the bad feelings, and would be weighing in this week at 19.4!

Starting Weight 19.1
Current weight 18.6
Total weightloss 9lbs
Starting bmi 47.9
Current bmi - 46.2
Week 1 -5
Week 2 -1
Week 3 0
Week 4 +1
Week 5 -4

Hi all!

SW 19st 3.2lb
CW 18st 13lb (5 days in!!!)

I've just been offered an appointment for weight management services on Monday 😱

Even if I switch to nhs funded, can I please stay?

Thank you. I've now convinced myself that I've got a grumbling gall bladder (pain R ribs going through to back) 🤦🏻‍♀️ Can't imagine getting a GP appointment to rule this out with things as they are atm.

MoreThanJustANumber · 07/05/2024 21:42

May I join you all please?

I have tried every diet going over the last 40 years and since starting on MJ at the beginning of March this is absolutely the most positive I have ever felt about losing weight (after the initial two weeks on any new diet!)

I have only lost one stone in 9 full weeks – just taken dose 10, but it is sustainable because I'm not craving all the time. I have still so much more to go but I'm excited to continue the journey without all the food noise and cravings that I've had for years.

Of course, you’ll need to give us all the inside scoop on getting it NHS funded!

Still on starting dose here with no effect, but no bad side effects either. Going up to 5 this weekend, with fingers crossed hoping it starts to kick in!

This is why I had to stop ozempic. I had biliary colic
It was agonising having an attack
Please go see someone!

Menora · 08/05/2024 07:12

@WoolyMammoth55
Hi
I took Ozempic for 6 months then just at the time it was in a world shortage, had a few episodes of gallbladder pains. My GP told me to stop taking it, plus also it was hard to find.
I lost about 2st during that time but I have lost a further 2st by myself
Yes cravings come back but it’s been so long I am in better habits. Even if I fall off the wagon a little it’s easier to get back on rather than give it all up!

RagzRebooted · 08/05/2024 08:35

Hi everyone, I'm sneaking over from the continuing Mounjaro thread as I've also got 5+stone to lose from starting weight of 17 stone 6lbs as I'm aiming for 12 stone or under. Currently down to 16 stone 3lbs after 7 weeks. I'm tall, so it really snuck up on me especially as like PPs I'd switched to kgs for my last few 'diets' due to the lack of emotional attachment (exactly how I described it too!) but the downside of that was I had no idea I was over 16 stone, never mind 17.
I'm now slightly lighter than I was when I started low carb in 2016 and got to my goal in 2017 I think, before new job, losing my Mum and COVID all ruined it. Unfortunately, low carb while effective is really not sustainable because I was having to cook completely different meals and constantly thinking about what I could and couldn't eat. On Mounjaro I'm eating normally, just smaller portions and not snacking on rubbish and like many I've gone off alcohol, which helps.

My first goal, as I'm still officially weighing in kg, is to get below 100kg (I'm 103).

It's lovely to hear from people further on, who have been on other GLP1s for longer and are finding their way with maintenance. It seems so far away right now!

Dogsbreath7 · 08/05/2024 09:29

Anyone skipped a week?

I have an op coming up and don’t want to be in hospital with side effects that have now hit me on MJ when I had first 5mg jab (sulphuric belches, diarrhoea, cramps, nausea). It too 3 days to calm down so next jab may be ok.

Any problems restarting?

KeepingUndercover · 08/05/2024 10:31

@Dogsbreath7 not skipped a week, but the advice if you miss a dose and go over the time to take it is to just take your next dose as planned.

Is your op going to be under GA? If so, let your surgery team know because it slows digestion and that can be an issue if the usual fasting period doesn't totally empty your stomach.

KeepingUndercover · 08/05/2024 10:32

@RagzRebooted the weighing in kg does have it's downsides. I know roughly what I should be in kg so I don't get too lulled into a false sense of security. You're very close to your first goal!

Crouton19 · 08/05/2024 14:34

My first package has arrived! I'm planning the have the first dose on Friday evening.

I've been eating better since I decided to do this and have lost 4 lb already so that has given my mood a boost.

catgirl1976 · 08/05/2024 17:39

I've lost 11lb since Friday (first dose)

Obviously on the one hand I am delighted but on the other I am worried that's too fast. I am struggling to eat. I am probably eating 400 - 500 calories a day and I know that is not enough. I don't want to get ill and I am happy for my weight loss to take 6 months to a year. I'm not in a race I just can't look at food.

Does anyone have any tips for getting in some calories in a way that won't over face me, ruin everything or leave me with digestive issues? I've been and bought a load of soups as I can face those and I was thinking a couple of table spoons of peanut butter. Is there any veg that would be good? I don't really eat meat so protein is hard. I've bought some low fat mozerella

Eggs would be good. Frittatas are always a go-to for me. You can throw anything in them and they’ll last several days in the fridge. Protein shakes could also be useful.

KeepingUndercover · 08/05/2024 17:56

I wouldn’t bother going low fat if you’re worried about your calorie intake. Have the full fat mozzarella. Full fat cottage cheese is good for protein, Longley Farm is nice if you can find it. Beans and pulses. Nut butter is good, I’d go for almond over peanut. I like protein yogurt with fruit and some almond butter for breakfast. Or you can make it into a smoothie with some milk and sip it slowly if that helps.

Sunshineandrainbow · 08/05/2024 18:08

Just taken first dose of 5mg. Hoping the side effects are manageable.

2 people have noticed my weight loss and I feel so uncomfortable with people commenting about it. Both times I have said oh I am not sure as I don't weigh myself. I am such a liar but I don't know how to react.

I buy longley farm cottage cheese in morrisons and sometimes home bargains.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 08/05/2024 18:15

The rate of weight loss is likely to slow down @catgirl1976 but you are right to make sure that you are eating enough. It sounds like you are particularly sensitive to the medication. The key thing is to keep your protein up to avoid losing lean tissue. I did the Fast 800 for a month or so last year and stopped when I realised that although I was losing weight, my body fat percentage actually went up and I was therefore losing muscle!

My best meat-free protein sources are:

  • full fat Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese (yes to Longley Farm if you can find it - Morrisons sell it near me)
  • Aldi’s protein yoghurts and mousse
  • protein shake with a scoop of collagen
  • the MyProtein clear whey isolate

Question - I've just taken my 3rd dose but it looks like there are 2 doses left in the pen. Really confused, anyone else noticed this?

KeepingUndercover · 08/05/2024 18:40

@Eminybob there is extra in the pen so when you prime the dose you aren’t wasting medicine you need. Some people are using the remaining bit as a bonus dose.

catgirl1976 · 08/05/2024 18:42

Thank you for the tips! Off to update my tesco order with yoghurts. I have chickens so loads of eggs - I just don’t know if I could face them but I’ll try an omelette
