Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

@justweg the extra dose is for Mounjaro pens.

Good luck with your weight loss ☺️

NotALightPacker · 19/06/2024 12:42

Realised I haven't posted an update so here goes.

I started MJ Friday 7th and as of today have lost 7lbs. No real side effects apart from feeling cold...but then the weather has been dreadful and I have a thyroid problem which makes me cold in a heatwave, so not sure that is actually a side effect tbh!

I've ordered the 5mg pen to start in two weeks.

Oh God, sulphur burps. They are so so disgusting. Has anyone found anything that works???

A few people on the other MJ thread recommended peppermint oil capsules. I agree the burps are disgusting! My husband threatened to divorce me at one point!!

KeepingUndercover · 19/06/2024 13:50

I've had some success with reflux meds for the burps, Esomeprazole tablets, generic or brand name. It hasn't worked every time depending on how bad it's been.

Hello all, am about to start Wegovy. What is this extra dose that I am reading about?

Shall pick up prescription tomorrow... am nervous!

SW: 102 k
GW: 70 k

justweg I used my first dose last night. So far so good!

Dogsbreath7 · 19/06/2024 14:55

For sulphur burps lots of peppermint rennies - and the usual don’t overeat and drink water- I am staying away from fizzy water in days after the jab.

justweg · 19/06/2024 15:50

@MrsClownland oh exciting!

I was so excited to go and pick up my prescription today, but the pharmacist says that I need a written authorization from my medical insurance (I am in Europe).

So I came away empty handed... 😞

So I need to wait a little longer ...

RMNofTikTok · 19/06/2024 16:13

Hi all!

God this thread has grown since the last time I checked in!

Started wegovy on 02/05/2024

SW 19st 4.2lb
Skipped last weeks injection as I went on holiday
CW 18st 4.8lb!
BMI was 50 when I started, it's now 47 woo hoo!

I've officially lost 10% of my excess weight and 5% of my actual weight, and I'm over the moon!

NSV - I've gone down TWO sizes in leggings already!

Not so good part - weight management services have not taken over prescribing wegovy yet so I'm still paying for it - boo!

It's lovely reading everyone else's progress, everyone should be really proud of themselves.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 19/06/2024 16:41

Thanks for the tips for the burps. I'm chomping a Rennie now. Apparently probiotics can help?

Well done @RMNofTikTok!

Well done @RMNofTikTok!

Rennies are definitely my go to! The acid reflux has been TERRIBLE

RagzRebooted · 19/06/2024 17:25

@RMNofTikTok it seems to depend where you are, my colleague was prescribed Ozempic (apparently not Wegovy!) last week for weight loss by her GP! No diabetes or other underlying conditions. Must have a renegade GP as I work in a different local surgery and we aren't even supposed to be prescribing it for Diabetes (meant to use the tablets) at the moment (though we do occasionally). I tried not to be too jealous...

Update. 13 weeks in and 13.3kg (29lbs) down. Slow and steady, just gone up to 6.5mg Mounjaro yesterday as I've been easing my way up to 7.5. Some of my clothes are fitting better and I can definitely see a difference, but not able to buy smaller clothes yet. I think I was a size 20 in denial and stretchy clothes, so not my 18s actually fit.

RMNofTikTok · 19/06/2024 17:30

@RagzRebooted

I'm under weight management services and they have agreed to take over prescribing, they just haven't had the final policy signed off yet but I was told a couple of months about 5 weeks ago so fingers crossed! GPs definitely aren't meant to be prescribing either form of it for weight loss currently!

mjnewbie · 20/06/2024 10:23

My first jab was Tuesday afternoon, I’ve weighed myself this morning just to be nosey and I’ve gone from 15.9 kg to 15.1kg - I can’t believe it. I didn’t feel hungry at all yesterday really but did eat around 900 calories. I felt fatigued all day and slept like a log for the last 2 nights - not sure if that’s a side effect.

One thing is struggling with is drinking enough, I have to remember to do it, as the need for even that isn’t there at the moment, even with having an extremely dry mouth.

Lavendersquare · 20/06/2024 11:39

Just thought I'd share my journey with Ozempic/Wegovy to date.

I took my first dose on 28 February 2023 starting weigh 15s 2lb
BMI was 36.
Waist 109.5cm
Dress size 18

Over the last 18 months I've slowly lost weight, 10lb in the first 3 weeks then 0.5-2lb a week thereafter.

as at today:

Current weight 10s 13lb
BMI 26.3
Waist 86cm
Dress size 12/14

Over the last 18 months, not only have I lost weight and inches my confidence and self esteem have soared. I feel for the first time in many years that people see me not the fat. My legs no longer ache at the end of the day, my arthritic knee is nowhere near as painful and I can generally move much more easily. I'm finally buying clothes I like rather than clothes that fit or cover my body.

In my opinion Ozempic/Wegovy has been life changing for me, it's not without issues I've at times been nauseous, suffered with constipation and diarrhoea but thankfully those are no longer a thing.

I'm currently still taking 2.4mg of Wegovy and will continue until I'm in the healthy BMI category which should be another 10lb.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/06/2024 12:22

@Lavendersquare that is so inspiring. I am really delighted for you.

Eminybob · 20/06/2024 14:08

That is awesome @Lavendersquare thanks for sharing, I can't wait to be in your position.

I'm exactly 8 weeks in today, about to start 7.5mg. Fingers crossed I've established what I can and can't eat. Following some horiffic side effects in my first couple of weeks of 5mg

SW 100kg
CW 88.7kg
1st goal weight 75kg
Ultimate goal weight 65kg
Starting BMI 38
Current BMI 33

I haven't bought any new clothes yet as still have lots to lose, but definitely finding everything looser and there is some stuff I can't wear as too big now

This if life changing, if things carry on the way they are I can see myself actually achieving my goal weight rather than losing the same 2 stone over and over like I have been for the last 15 years.

Lavendersquare · 20/06/2024 14:32

Thank you @ChazsBrilliantAttitude and @Eminybob

@Eminybob well done you're on the road to a new you, just look at it as a long term project. There will be weeks when you don't lose anything and others where you have significant loss but the trend will be downwards even if there are a few little hiccups.

Eminybob · 20/06/2024 16:51

Can I ask a question- does suppression last longer on higher doses or is it just stronger? Been feeling hungry on day 5 onwards on 5mg

How Many clicks do you do?

I need to dip my foot back in now I am over my gallbladder problem. I had just bought a 7.5 pen but don't want to go in at that level now I want to do maybe 5

Choux · 20/06/2024 17:51

Here's the 'click chart'

Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose
Sunshineandrainbow · 20/06/2024 18:07

Thanks so much @Choux@Choux I really appreciate that.

CherryPickle · 20/06/2024 21:00

Hi all!

Just had my first 5mg injection today. In five weeks I’ve lost 4.4kg which is just shy of 10lb. I am happy with that, particularly as I did not gain the usual 7lb bloat before my period and actually lost a half kilo that week!

So excited at the idea something may actually work for me to get me to goal weight.

KeepingUndercover · 21/06/2024 08:26

Well done on your great start @CherryPickle.

I injected a bit late this week as I was trying to avoid bad side effects on a day I needed to do stuff. I think I'm doing better with the side effects though, seems like I'm adjusting to 7.5mg. Although having said that I ended up hugely bloated and gassy last night for some reason. Seems to have worn off today thankfully.

Countrygirl222 · 21/06/2024 13:00

How many calories are most of you eating a day? I was aiming for 1200 but only seem to be managing about 750 and my app then takes another 250 off for dog walking! Is there a minimum we should be having. I’m trying to have protein and veg or fruit.
