Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude @twentysevendresses You’re in the right place. Lots of people on here have great advice and have been doing this for a while. I’ve got 52kgs to lose 💪

@ClonedSquare great weight loss at the beginning of your journey! 🙌

catgirl1976 · 26/05/2024 17:11

Day 23 and although last week was slow I’m 19 lbs down!

my right kidney feels a bit twingey today so trying to drink more water as I’ve not been as good as that as I should have the last few days 😞

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/05/2024 09:24

Thats amazing @catgirl1976 you must feel fab.

I also need to drink more and Def ongoing to try harder this week. I like the idea of the straw bottles but the cleaning of them puts me off.

ClonedSquare · 27/05/2024 09:58

Well done @catgirl1976 !

Just did my third weigh in and I've lost 3.5lbs since Thursday (changing up my days now my jabs are Sunday night). That's 12.5lbs in two and a half weeks, I'm amazed.

I'm also amazed how positive I feel about this diet. Usually at this point, I'm utterly miserable and have been torturing myself to stay hungry and low calorie. And usually almost nothing to show for it. Now I'm feeling positive and like I can keep this up long term.

catgirl1976 · 27/05/2024 10:05

Thanks @Sunshineandrainbow and @ClonedSquare

it really does feel life changing. I wish I had know earlier that it wasn’t all my fault and a tweak of my body chemistry would make this much difference !

Congrats on both your losses! We are doing amazing and we CAN do this 😊

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 10:15

Congrats everyone! I completely agree about feeling positive rather than hitting the point you want to jack t all in. I'm now week 12 I think, I've lost track a bit! My 5mg pen wasn't being so effective this week so I had a bit of wobbling. But actually when it came to it I didn't want to completely give in. So I bought chocolate and thought "I'm going to eat this sharer bag" but then I looked at it and clearly the MJ hasn't completely worn off as I just didn't want it. Instead I had a bit of a nice chocolate bar my DH had bought me on Monday and I'd barely touched. Ate two squares and that was more than enough.

I have gone up to 7.5 with this week's injection, did a full and a half dose from the 5mg pen and should be able to get the same next week with the extra bit in the pen.

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 10:33

I'm 400g down this week, which is about half a pound and I'll take that! 14.3kg in total since I started. I need to lose 6kg to get under 100, which I'm very excited to reach.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 27/05/2024 10:46

Thanks, @VelociraptorsVelociRapping. That was the effect I was hoping for! Just have to do it anyway now.

KrankyKumquat · 27/05/2024 11:15

Re alcohol and MJ. I'd not had a drink for nearly 3 weeks then, last night (1 day after 2nd 2.5 jab) I had 2 large glasses of dry white wine. Today, I feel awful for the first time since I started on the med. Good lesson for me - MJ and alcohol don't mix. I'm pleased in a way as I had a bottle a day habit before this so an extra deterrent is very welcome!

Alicewondersalot · 27/05/2024 13:49

@KeepingUndercover Your weight loss is inspiring! 💪 I had a wobble last week and lost 0.5lbs and felt a little down but just tweaked the dose this week and back to feeling positive about it all and then whoosh, another 2lbs. The weight is coming off in fits and starts for me.

How do you feel on 7.5mg?

WoolyMammoth55 · 27/05/2024 14:27

Hi ladies, it's my birthday! So here's my celebratory update:

I'm having some weird hormone/health things - specifically I haven't had my period since I started MJ a month ago, and it was due 3 days after my jab! I am normally regular as clockwork so finding this SUPER odd - actually did a pregnancy test 2 days ago despite DH's vasectomy!! - because it's just SO weird for me. Luckily not immaculate-conception pregnant! Just hormonally screwed up!

On top of that I was in A&E 11 days ago with a bad allergic reaction to some hair oil I got online :( I had to take 6 doses of steroids plus strong antihistamines and am STILL all red and swollen and itchy and sore.

Between both of these things, my scales haven't really budged from my SW.

BUT. I'm feeling so clear and calm around food. I'm doing IF from 8pm-2pm basically effortlessly. I'm doing lazy keto, avoidling all sugars and starchy carbs and most processed food. I feel so much more peaceful in my body and am slowly cranking up my exercise from zilch to something...

Work is busy, life with 2 little kids is hectic, and we have a ton of credit card debt - but this medicine makes me feel positive, calm, more focused and completely in control around food for the first time in my adult life.

I'm in this for the long haul! And honestly have no doubt that this time in a year, I will be seeing a really different me in the mirror. 💖

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 14:40

@Alicewondersalot I only injected last night and it's usually 48 hrs after that I get kicked by it if I'm going to. I feel fine today but definitely got increased appetite suppression. My salad at lunch (not a MN massive one) has filled me up like a 3 course meal.

Sounds like your dose tweak has done the trick, great stuff!

@WoolyMammoth55 happy birthday! Sorry things sound like they've been a bit of a nightmare for you. Hope it all settles down soon, the allergic reaction sounds proper grim.

Lothbrok · 27/05/2024 17:48

Well done to everyone posting such great results.
I've taken my 2nd 2.5 injection in the last few hours, I lost 2lbs the first week but I've also had the dreaded TOTM which always stuffs up any weight loss so hopefully I'll see better results in a couple of weeks (my TOTM averages 10+days).

In regards to the appetite suppression, the only time I can really tell a difference is that I have no desire to finish a meal, I eat much slower and sometimes my stomach turns when I smell food. Thankfully it's not having any other affects so far.

Good luck ongoing! ♥

oreo2024 · 27/05/2024 22:31

Exercising ladies, I have a question. I am in my 2nd week of MJ so not far along. I rode 60 miles yesterday in a cycling event, and my performance was poor and slow and I felt fainty all the way. I ate some energy bars there and then but having no other underlying conditions, I thought perhaps MJ slowed down my energy bar absorption so I effectively rode on empty? I can't explain it otherwise. What do you think?

montysma1 · 27/05/2024 23:33

I am just about to hit BMI 25.

If it's any encouragement, have lost 70 lb. In march 22 I was 221lbs.
I lost 18lb on my own.
In 2023 I lost 30lb on 4months of Ozempic then shortages meant I couldn't get more.

6 months passed, during which I regained a few pounds but not much as I was exercising hard even though my diet wasn't great.

Started Mounjaro in March this year. In 10 weeks I have lost the final 30 lb and should hit normal BMI this week.

I have a small stockpile and intend to keep going for another stone which would have me at 23ish BMI.

So just to say, the big losses are very possible on these drugs.

ClonedSquare · 28/05/2024 06:33

@montysma1 That's amazing, I'm so pleased for you! Very encouraging to hear.

oreo2024 · 28/05/2024 09:27

@montysma1 what an inspiration. Well done. I hope I will be you one day.

KeepingUndercover · 28/05/2024 10:17

Thanks @KeepingUndercover I will try that when my next dose unlocks

ive just watched the South Park Mounjaro/ ozempic episode 🤣🤣🙈

GreatGateauxsby · 29/05/2024 08:38

@montysma1 thanks for this.
unlike others I am still not finding this process motivating and feel like saying sod it. Framing it as years not months is a good way to think about it.

I’m at 89kg now but short…
i thought i looked okay / better and on the bank holiday my husband took some pics of me playing with my Dd and I looked utterly horrendous. Literally a roll of fat on my outer thigh - how?
I don’t think he purposefully did it but it was the most unflattering of angles 😞😞😞

Very disheartening…I even had a little cry but I’m 4m postpartum so still a bit hormonal I think 🥴

I suppose it just underscores the need to keep my head down and keep going.

oreo2024 · 29/05/2024 09:32

@GreatGateauxsby understand how you are feeling. I just got official photos from a cycling event I attended (Ride London) and I look horrendously fat (106kg). I don't see it on daily basis when I look at myself in the mirror, so it's an eye opener and a much needed one.
It's easy to get disheartened .. let's keep going even if we feel low. It will pay off. It will.
I am on week 2 MJ 2.5mg and can't say I feel any suppression but just got to keep going.

catgirl1976 · 29/05/2024 10:40

I could do with a little advice if anyone can help?

My first two weeks on MJ were amazing and I lost a ridiculous amount of weight. Week three it slowed right down which I expected but today, half way through week four I’ve weighed myself and I’ve put weight on despite still barely eating.

I know this is a marathon not a sprint and that hormone changes, water retention and many other things play a part and that weight loss isn’t always linear etc but I’m still a little disheartened

My issue is I think I now need to move to 5mg. I’ve finished my first pen 2.5mg apart from the bonus dose which I am going to do on Friday (or try anyway need to work out how to do it)

BUT because I had such a massive response at the start, when I ordered my next one (which has arrived) I decided to stay at 2.5. But now I think that was a mistake. I can’t afford to waste the new 2.5 pen and order a 5 one but I don’t want to stay on 2.5 for another four weeks and lose hope and gain weight

can I double up on two dose from the new 2.5 pen (appreciating it will last me half the time) or is there a way to get a middle dose of 3.75 a time out of it or something g like that and how would I do it? Also if I do the bonus dose from the first one on Friday how do I know how much dose it will be?

Any advice would be very much appreciated - thank you ❤️

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/05/2024 10:49

@GreatGateauxsby I'm up and down with how I feel about it all. I'm still hungry a lot of the time and the amount of money I'm spending is bothering me now I'm over 3mths in.

I looked horrendous before starting MJ and as @oreo2024 said, I didn't see how bad I looked on a daily basis. I've lost over 3st and am still obese, but I'm getting quite close to just 'overweight' now and I'm pretty happy about that. I just keep telling myself to get on with it and keep going.

Overall it's definitely worth it as although I didn't have any medical issues from being obese, it was probably only a matter of time before they started. I'm 40 next week and have 2 very young children who I'm struggling to keep up with due to my weight. I don't want to be the huge mum that can't run after their kids.

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/05/2024 11:11

@PissedOffNeighbour22 wow 3 stone is great! Well done!

I'm only week 4/5 weeks in so super early days. Due to health stuff I've had no real weight loss on the scales BUT I'm finding the meds great for general willpower and I feel different and better in my body.

I'm eating really well - healthy food, lots of protein and veg, no carbs or sugar - and don't feel tempted by junk. I started MJ after a few months of really out-of-control stress eating (work is a bit mental right now!) and it was like a switch was flipped to turn that off.

So even without a loss, it's definitely stopping me gaining, IYSWIM!

And I'm doing good self-care, nice skincare treats, some movement every day - just feel well and like I'm building healthy habits for the future. There's this book called Atomic Habits that basically says: if you want to be healthy, decide you are healthy and act accordingly - do what a healthy person would do. And after you've done those things for a while, you'll be that person!

I feel like MJ is helping me build in all those 'healthy person' habits that I normally struggle with. Bloody miracle drug! 😝

I'm really confident that I'll take this for a year or 18 months and be very different by the end of treatment...

Don't know if any of that's helpful but wish you all the best.
