Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Can you inject early as a one off without any issues? Looking to change my injection day to Sundays so would be five days since my last jab.

I'm worried about the hunger coming back if I "skip" this Tuesday and go 12 days between jabs.

GreenGooner · 25/05/2024 08:36

Thought I'd do a little update.

Week 2 and 6.3lb lost in total.

SW: 17 4.3
CW: 16 12
GW: ????

I've been hungrier this week but not necessarily had cravings, although I feel I've eaten worse out of habit rather than desire.

Half term this week so we're not ff to the sea side for a few days. This means I'll miss my Monday injection and do it on Tuesday instead. I've made my peace with that though.

I've definitely felt some side effects this week. Not anything I can pin point, I've just felt... odd.

I can definitely start to feel the effects wear off towards the end of the week so I'll be ready to move up to the next dose.

GreenGooner · 25/05/2024 08:37
  • off to the seaside that should say 🙄

Yes, you can do this, it's absolutely fine.

ClonedSquare · 25/05/2024 09:11

@KeepingUndercover Thanks! I've switched my working days and find I need all the help I can get on my days off now!

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/05/2024 09:29

@GreenGooner you could inject Sunday if you wanted to. But you might want to just enjoy your break.

Have a fab time 😊

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/05/2024 09:58

Just weighed and OMG have seen 16 flash before my eyes for the first time in 20 years!
Start weight 18.4
Current weight 16.13

Think that's a 2lb loss this week.

Now I need to not mess it up over the bank holiday weekend.

KeepingUndercover · 25/05/2024 11:30

What a lovely milestone @Sunshineandrainbow

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 25/05/2024 11:47

@ClonedSquare I've adjusted injection days here and there over the past year, often due to necessity/travel. No issue.

@Sunshineandrainbow Fantastic, congratulations! You won't mess it up. I've had multiple bank holiday weekends, Christmas, parties and holidays by now. Just stay consistent, drink your water, fill up on protein. You are still allowed nice meals, but perhaps smaller portions than normal and choose cleverly, ie focus on protein on the plate + you are allowed small treats!
Too much sugar will make you feel like crap though, same with too much fat.

I can say this with certainty 14+ months in: To set yourself up for success, planning is key: Make sure you have good food options at home. And whenever I've experienced a hint of the old urge to binge on carby snacks at night, it's because I've not had enough water and/or protein in the day. Always.

Alicewondersalot · 25/05/2024 12:13

@Ghilliedu congrats on your loss so far - we started around the same time. My first injection was on 12th April and I have been titrating up slowly too. I had 3.33mg from the bonus dose and then another 3.33mg from my 5mg pen and just yesterday I went took 4mg. Has worked for me to keep side effects down, however, I still had terrible heartburn yesterday but feel much better today.

@Sunshineandrainbow@GreenGooner congrats on your losses!

Ghilliedu · 25/05/2024 12:25

Thanks @Alicewondersalot Im about to do this weeks injection and am thinking 3.33mg as well.

no loss for me this week which I’m kind of surprised about as even though I’ve been hungry and had no suppression I’ve still been mindful of what I’ve been eating and feel like I haven’t eaten enough to just maintain. Maybe I need to go to the toilet!

anyway, this week is a new week. Onwards and downwards!

Alicewondersalot · 25/05/2024 12:57

@Ghilliedu yes onwards and downwards! Last week when I stayed at 3.33mg for the second week in a row, by day 4 I had no suppression and was super hungry and I only lost 0.5lbs as I ate a bit more than usual.

It’s all a bit trial and error really! 😊

twentysevendresses · 25/05/2024 13:35

5 stone to lose...which I did lose 8 years ago, and kept off for 4 years, then the dreaded menopause happened and my weight skyrocketed 😢😢 I'm so upset with myself but here I am 🤷‍♀️😫

I've just ordered Mounjaro and am waiting delivery. Don't really know what to expect but if it only kickstarts my weight loss I'll be happy...got to start somewhere 👌🏻

ShiftySandDune · 25/05/2024 16:52

Day two and all I’ve managed is half a sandwich. Not feeling sick and drinking plenty of water. I just have no desire for food. It’s the oddest thing to me. I’m going to make sure I force myself to eat a high protein dinner and maybe have a protein shake later.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/05/2024 00:08

I’m going to be starting MJ this week. Order is due on Wed. I’ve got around 46Kg to lose so I suspect I will be on here for quite a while.

ClonedSquare · 26/05/2024 07:03

Just got some new scales and when I tested them side by side they weigh me 2lbs heavier than the old ones 😢 I've gone back and adjusted all my previous weights so I don't feel like I lost out haha.

Weighing tomorrow to line up with my change of injection day, it's looking like I've lost another 2lbs, so my total loss for 2.5 weeks is 11lbs. I'm so pleased. One more week on 2.5 and then I'm moving up to 5mg.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 26/05/2024 11:00

Looks like my Mounjaro journey is over before it began. GP thinks I possibly have pancreatitis, @Menora. (Ultrasound was clear for gallstones.) So that's a massive contraindication for Mounjaro, which is still sitting in the salad drawer. 😞

catgirl1976 · 26/05/2024 11:03

Ahh @TryingAgainAgainAgain that’s disappointing but your health comes first. Hope you are ok and get better soon

ClonedSquare · 26/05/2024 11:07

Sorry to hear rhat @TryingAgainAgainAgain Hope you recover soon!

KeepingUndercover · 26/05/2024 11:14

Sorry to hear that @TryingAgainAgainAgain. I'm glad you got it checked out before starting as you might have made it much worse if you hadn't. Super frustrating for you though.

Menora · 26/05/2024 11:54

@TryingAgainAgainAgain its good you got it checked out but it does suck, I hope you are feeling better soon xx

Ghilliedu · 26/05/2024 12:55

Sorry to hear that @TryingAgainAgainAgain that must be frustrating. I hope you feel better soon!

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 26/05/2024 13:40

Thanks everyone. If it is chronic pancreatitis it's not something that gets better as such. Means I have to have zero alcohol, low fat diet, painkillers as needed, and steer clear of Mounjaro.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 26/05/2024 13:47

fwiw, just before this my (excellent) GP's pharmacist had emphasised just how important plenty of water/clear fluids are when on semaglutide/tirzepatide, particularly for pancreas/gallbladder/kidney health. And personally I would be extremely careful with alcohol when on Mounjaro.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/05/2024 14:18

@TryingAgainAgainAgain I’m sorry - how incredibly frustrating for you.

Re: alcohol: I am slightly embarrassed to admit that my source for this is an American doctor I saw on TikTok but he made a point of saying that he strongly advises his patients on semaglutides not to drink as it increases the risk of pancreatitis. It’s handy that MJ removes any desire to drink for many of us!
