Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Well done to all the weight losses today.

@Scalessayeek how much was the walking pad if you don't mind me asking

NCfor24 · 09/04/2024 08:49

@Scalessayeek also have walking pad questions! Would love to hear how you get on with it as I'm very tempted. I've had one in my Amazon basket for weeks!

Wine kicked my ass last night. It was my birthday yesterday and also injection day. A few glasses of wine, two aloe Vera tablets and the 5mg injection have created the perfect storm. Very unreasonable trips to loo and I think the day could be a write off. Learn from me!

Hope you feel better soon!!!!

Stickthatupyourdojo · 09/04/2024 08:51

Wooop well done @Scalessayeek

End of week 6 for me and 4lb down, very pleased. Into a new stone bracket that I haven’t been in since having 2 kids (eldest is 4)!

Less constipation this week - think the magnesium has helped.

I’m 1lb away from 3 stone loss in total!

With Mounjaro I’ve lost 1 stone 3lb, so I’m pleased with that. I’ve got another 5mg pen as I’m happy to stay on that for now.

mounjarovirgin · 09/04/2024 09:12

Can I join in? Just took my first dose of 2.5mg last night. Definitely feel thirsty but not much else!

Surprised how difficult I found it to psych myself up so I was able to inject myself 🙈 but it didn't hurt at all!

Investinmyself · 09/04/2024 09:25

Hope the ones with bad reactions feel better soon.

lurkylurk · 09/04/2024 09:27

Weighed this morning as it's now 2 weeks since I started (although ended up not having second dose until 4 days ago for various reasons, so may switch to weighing that day) and I'm 4.5 pounds down in total over the 2 weeks.

I actually lost 4 pounds in the first 4 days of week one, then there was a whole bunch of fluctuations due to Easter, totm, being late with second dose and some was probably only water weight too so I'm happy with this final figure for the 2 weeks! Especially as I've been finding the appetite suppression effects wearing off quite a lot after first few days each week (unfortunately the other side effects don't wear off so much!😂)

Scalessayeek · 09/04/2024 09:27

@ObsidianTree

I've included mine below. I need to spend a bit more due to the extra weight I'm carrying. (Still a few kg over the weight limit of this one to be honest). I wanted one that went relatively fast too and this looked ok. I'm joining the gym in September once my work hours change but needed something to help until then. Two littles at home and can't always get out and about.

@NCfor24 I'll let you know how it goes. I've been doing the Leslie Sansone 2 mile walk videos on YouTube when I can. They're not all great but they get you moving. I burned 460 calories yesterday in a half hour workout!

Scalessayeek · 09/04/2024 09:30

@lurkylurk not so sure about that, just another 70 odd pounds to not be obese Blush

MelissaLouRocks · 09/04/2024 09:42

Well done on your loss @lurkylurk 🤗

NCfor24 · 09/04/2024 09:42

@Scalessayeek that one looks good!
I used to run (well, run/walk/run, but did 2 marathons that way!) and tried to restart couch to 5k but my right hip was really not happy about it so I need to rethink.
Even as a "runner" I think my max speed was within walking pad capabilities so I may well go for it. I don't have space for a treadmill and would like something I can put under the sofa!
Will look up YouTube walking videos too - thanks. I definitely don't move enough!

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 09/04/2024 09:49

Very interested in the walking pad! I've been thinking of getting one myself. Sometimes I walk around the house when I haven't hit my step goal for the day and it isn't ideal!

I took the plunge and bought a treadmill last summer. I don't use it everyday but it's definitely helped my fitness level.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 09/04/2024 10:11

Those who are having bad symptoms and nausea, did you inject in your stomach?

I did my 1st shot last Wednesday and injected into my thigh. I didn’t have any side effects at all.

MammothyGoodness · 09/04/2024 10:34

Question for those who order from Asda- what do you do with the wool? I tried putting it out for the birds but they’re not interested. Is there a good way to dispose of it?

Yes I did.

VoyOySaveloy · 09/04/2024 10:46

I have had a look on Reddit and there are quite a few people reporting similar - jump in RHR and sleep onset tachycardia (with accompanying jitters). It seems to say it's of no concern but I can't stand the anxiety sensation. What a pity.

Resting heart rate does definitely go up. It is a side effect. I noticed this a while back on my fitbit tracker. Hope it gets better for you!

I gave it to my cats but they started to shred it and made a mess. I put it in the garden for them to sleep on, but it's been raining constantly so it's out there pretty soaked at the moment! I'm not sure what to do with it! Seems like it would make a good cushion filling! When it dries out maybe I'll fill my sofa cushions with it to plump them up!

zaffa · 09/04/2024 11:03

@MammothyGoodness @ObsidianTree it's supposed to be very good for keeping the frost off plants over the winter too

Cantonet · 09/04/2024 11:05

Apparently the heart rate issues can be caused by low blood sugar.
I had some drinks last night & I've woken up feeling very jittery with a racing heart this morning. I don't tend to eat breakfast but I will eat something now to see if I feel better.
