Weigh in day for me and I’ve had a small loss, which I’m absolutely delighted with as this brings me to a 1 stone loss, which is a bit of a milestone for me. I haven’t lost this much weight in years.

Week 6 next week and I move onto 5mg (it’s in the fridge ready!)

SW 229 lbs (16 stone 5lbs)
CW 215 lbs (15 stone 5lbs)

@zaffa @PissedOffNeighbour22 Re: bruising

Just popping over from the Wegovy thread. I bruised every time and, as you say, the bruises last for two weeks. So I googled and found recommendations targeted at insulin injectors. The following works for me:

An icepack from the freezer held over my clothes on the injection site for 20mins. Then inject. I assume this chases the capillaries away. I've been doing this for several weeks and I don't bruise now. It stings a bit after injecting, but hardly noticeable.

The advice also said to press a sterile cotton bud to the injection site afterwards, but I kept forgetting and the icepack trick has been enough. Just don't put it directly onto you skin.

Thnks @Striving4Better - I still have a faint bruise from injection one after two weeks and I was picturing a medley of bruises on my thighs! (Not that anyone sees them except DH who does the injecting for me as I'm too squeamish 😬)
I'll give that trick a go. I had a c section four years ago and had to inject a blood thinner for ten days after to prevent bruising, into my tummy, and the bruising was horrendous so I guess I must bruise very easily.

Scalessayeek · 30/03/2024 09:08

I've used the medexpress code. They asked me lots of questions and didn't like my photo I provided so I was up at 6am using the timer on my phone. Most unflattering photos ever but they did the trick 😝

I had an email saying it would need to be approved by the Dr but I see the status is now awaiting despatch which I assume would be held back over the bank hol. Does this sound right to everyone?

Moanranger · 30/03/2024 09:15

Good morning all,
I took my first dose last night, to abdomen. Mild side effects, slight headache & tum felt a bit acid. Slept fine. (As an aside, I injured my shoulder last Dec, have been dosing with paracetamol like an addict. Bad sleep. I finally got an ultrasound yesterday. Muscle is torn so I will need an op😢! But I got steroid injection & first good night’s sleep in 4 mo!) I will assess how effective MJ appetite suppression is as the week progresses.
So far no “blues” at all, so starting morning on positive note. I use Nutracheck for cal counting, etc & it puts me at 1200 cal, 115g protein to achieve my goals by Sept. Cross-checked on a TDEE calculator and it has me somewhat higher, 1470.
I then put in my likely protein intake for today ( cottage cheese, smoked salmon, chicken breast, fish soup) and I achieve that on just under 800 cals, so gives me a 400 cal buffer.
I will need to be systematic & organised!!
I need to see MJ as an aid, not a solution.

ObsidianTree · 30/03/2024 09:20

@Scalessayeek I had that experience with medexpess too. But all got sorted in the end and relatively quickly.

Good luck @Moanranger . Hope you're not in too much pain. Glad you got some sleep!

Congratulations @ObsidianTree @LoadsToLose and @NCfor24 and anyone I've forgotten who had a win on the scales today!

Day 2 for me and I still don't feel hungry in the morning which is v strange. Especially since I had my dinner so early yesterday because I didn't get a chance to grab lunch.

I had a mild headache for a little while yesterday but nothing that even needed painkillers. Am going to go out and pick up those aloe Vera tablets though as things are definitely moving slower through my system!

Very pleased to not have any nausea (so far anyway, touch wood). Also, I just realised that I didn't snack at all yesterday! It never occured to me.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 30/03/2024 09:34

@ObsidianTree Glad the 5mg is working so well for you. Congrats on your loss.
Overnight I've put back on all last week's loss and I'm starving this morning so am getting quite frustrated with it.

Thanks @Striving4Better. I inject in my tummy so no one sees the bruises but might give your suggestion a try next time. @zaffa I had the misfortune of many weeks on fragmin blood thinner injections after my CS 2 years ago too and my tummy was knackered by the end with the bruising and lumps under the skin.

MehNotSure · 30/03/2024 09:58

So excited my first Mounjarno suppose to arrive today so will take a shot 😁

plinter · 30/03/2024 11:51

So, just taken my first dose. I ordered it 2 weeks ago from Boots, but my local store have been rubbish so only got it today.
I've not told DH and was hoping to get it during the week when it would be easier to collect and use, but managed it no problem. I've never had to inject myself before and can be a bit squeamish, but found it really easy to use. The pharmacist also gave me 6 needles, so if I have liquid left, I will try to get out an extra week.

Those of you that get it delivered from Boots - is it obvious it is a pharmacy item when delivered? I'm thinking of using delivery next time, either to work or home, but scared it will be obvious. I do regularly get boots deliveries, so that wouldn't be unusual, but if it said pharmacy or need to keep refrigerated, it might raise suspicions.

Hoping for no side effects today, off to have some electrolytes!

FlappyFish · 30/03/2024 11:52

Congrats @ObsidianTree. I’m glad the 5 is working.

For whomever asked on getting final dose out. I extract using 1ml needles. These ones. They went out of stock after I posted but that is what you’re looking for. You just insert it through the seal you clip the needle on and extract.

Have a wonderful Easter all.

Continuing Mounjaro...part 3
Sunshineandrainbow · 30/03/2024 12:26

Hello
At 18 stone for what feels like forever and food ruling and ruining my life. I want to bite the bullet and try an injection.
Have been looking at medexpress and can't decide between wegovy or mounjaro, can anyone help me decide between the two so I can order today.

Thankyou

I don't know how boots deliver, but Asda pharmacy is in unmarked packaging, apart from a big snowflake to indicate it needs a fridge. There might be a note near delivery that says it's in discreet packaging?
I told dh I was doing a MN product test for a CBD drink for peri menopausal women 😂 and to make sure he put it in the fridge. (He works from home and I don't).
Actually, sometimes I use the "I'm doing a MN product test" line for other things I order 🤫

lurkylurk · 30/03/2024 12:28

@plinter
It will have the snowflake symbol and may also say it needs to be refrigerated.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 30/03/2024 12:31

Order is now stating awaiting dispatch so that’s good.

Also just ordered some meal replacement shakes from My Protein. When I’m not hungry I found these easier to get some calories and nutrients in.

Looking forward to starting.

RagzRebooted · 30/03/2024 12:55

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin I love your MN product test story. Genius!
I haven't told DH yet either. He's away 5 nights a week, so quite easy to hide it. He just thinks I'm dieting and given up wine.
I'll tell him once it's obvious.

I will tell DH when it's obvious too. He will worry until he knows it's safe for me, and if I have been taking it a few weeks or months, I'll be able to reassure him. Also, part of me is scared this won't work and this will be yet another weight loss thing I've failed at. So I'm fully keeping it to myself. I know he will understand why I've wanted to keep it to myself, he won't see it as me "lying" to him in a bad way if that makes sense.

Imgoingtobefree · 30/03/2024 13:06

Hi, I’d like to join the thread.

Im worried that I’m losing weight too fast!

Im only 5ft tall with a BMI of 31.

I started 2.5 Mounjaro a week ago. SW 11st 3lbs. Today I’m 10 st 9lbs. I make that 8lbs in one week.

Im not a massive eater during the day, I usually skip breakfast and have a small lunch. Then I will eat a decent dinner - then I start stuffing my face with chocolate, ice cream and biscuits. I’ve tried so hard to just stop eating the crap, but it felt like an addiction.

So I thought I’d try the mounjaro are reading this thread to see if I could stop the ice cream habit.

After two days, I stopped the late night rubbish food eating, which was great, but I have a much smaller appetite overall and really struggling to eat proper meals.
Ive started having 30gm of protein powder with half a pint of milk in the mornings and I’m using my blender to make a veggie/fruit smoothie everyday to get the fibre in. But last night I couldn’t face food and ended up having a small bowl of muesli.

My only side effect seems to be a constant uncomfortable stomach, the sort I used to get when I had a really empty tummy.

Im due to take my 2nd injection today, but should I delay it by a day?

It’s fantastic that I’m losing weight but I’ve read all my life that a kilo a week is a safe amount to lose. I don’t want to make myself ill (I have high blood pressure, cholesterol etc) or end up with saggy/excess skin.

Im over 60 and I’m also trying to lose weight for my DDs wedding in 6weeks time. I also think I need to start some weight bearing exercise to keep my muscle mass up.

So wise women of MN any suggestions for me?

hereiamnowwoo · 30/03/2024 13:15

Was anyone able to help this ok if had gallstone problems.

Katspace · 30/03/2024 13:17

@Imgoingtobefree

It’s the glycogen reservoir you have lost. Not fat. I also lost half a stone the first week. I would carry on and see what happens in the next week.

Katspace · 30/03/2024 13:19

@hereiamnowwoo

If you still have your gall bladder then speak to your pharmacist or a GP. I don’t think it’s worth the risk of pancreatitis, which I have had and it’s a long wait for gallbladder surgery normally.

NoMoreCoffeePlease · 30/03/2024 13:29

I also started yesterday, so it will be interesting to compare experiences!

So far... I gained half a kilo overnight, despite eating around 1400 kcal of high protein non UPF foods. 😓Felt a bit queasy during last night's dinner and this morning's breakfast, so I ate smaller portions. I was definitely hungry as usual at lunchtime.

I also haven't told DH as I'm embarrassed to spend so much money even if it's my own.

KeepingUndercover · 30/03/2024 13:30

@Moanranger bad news about the shoulder, hope you can get fixed up. If you're surgery is under GA make sure you mention you're on Mounjaro. I've seen it mentioned that the slower absorption of food it causes can be an issue if you're under anaesthetic.

@Sunshineandrainbow I went for Mounjaro because the results in trial were better and the risk of gallstones was lower (they scare me). I would just read lots of info about both though and see what you think.

Imgoingtobefree · 30/03/2024 13:50

@Katspace Thankyou. That makes sense. I was imaging the saggy skin flapping on my arms by May!!!
