@ObsidianTree what I mean is the effect will wear off in half the time as there is half the liquid in your body. So although there will be the same 5mg, it will probably be absorbed by day 3/4!1!3 you'll likely feel hungry towards the end of the week.
With saxenda it worked because the amount of liquid injected went up as the dose went up so the amount of drug per ml was always the same. Does that make sense? Or am I waffling ?Blush

Week 2 begins for me today. Just taken my second dose. As you know, I accidentally took double last week but this time, I got it right. I'm curious to see how the side effects will pan out on a single dose compared to double.

I'm beginning to think there's a lot more to this drug than weight loss. I have a knee injury which makes running painful. Not on Mounjaro. No inflammation or pain. Energy levels are good: I went to the gym after work which is a first. I don't have that 'want to curl up in a ball' at the end of the day feeling. Mood is stable. It wipes the floor with HRT I tell ya!

I'm with you. My mood is so stable, I feel relaxed and ready to face stressful situations. I can be quite anxious about things and try at triggers stress eating and so far I've noticed more of a 'let's wait and see' instead of a 'let's scrutinize every terrible outcome' when I've encountered any stress.
I know I'm only on day 4 but so far I really do feel like it's magic!

That makes sense. So basically for the full dose you need the 0.6ml regardless of strength. So they have made it so that you can't buy a bigger dose pen and divide the doses.

Hmm, that messes up my plan for when I go on holiday in May then! I estimated that I would be on about 10mg by then so was planning on taking 2 doses then going on hol and having a week ish break then restart on smaller doses from the 10mg pen and build myself back up. Not sure what to do now. Might need to take my pen on hol so it isn't wasted!

OP posts:
CiderJabs · 19/03/2024 09:29

@ObsidianTree yes that is correct unfortunately. You also need to bear in mind they say the pen needs to be discarded after 30 days so if you were halving the dose it would go over that.
So unless you're in the snape potion group and plan to start diluting it (which in my opinion is a bit mad!) then I don't think you'll manage it.

I'm also having holiday worries as I'm meant to go to up 5 when I'm there and I can't decide if it's a good thing or not :(

April88 · 19/03/2024 09:30

Extra clicks didn’t work for me - would only move 2 lines.

I used the ones from Amazon to give myself an extra dose. Didn’t hurt even though the needles are bigger, but I have a round tummy which I did it into!

ObsidianTree · 19/03/2024 09:33

@CiderJabs I thought leaving the pen in the fridge made it last longer?

I think I will probably end up taking the pen with me and not skipping the dose. Don't want to waste the pen. And wouldn't want to skip a dose then start back on 10mg straight away. I might end up staying on 7.5mg as I can't split a dose. Will see how I feel on it!

Re your hol, it's a difficult decision. Depends on the type of hol I guess. And if you don't mind not being able to eat /drink much! I'm going on an AI and was looking forward to cocktails etc. Now worried I won't enjoy it at all! Don't know what to do 🤔

OP posts:
ObsidianTree · 19/03/2024 09:37

That's a shame @April88. But at least you already had the needles etc. it's quite easy to get the last dose out with the needle **

CiderJabs · 19/03/2024 09:38

It's all a bit of a minefield! I thought once you took it off the fridge (ie to put it in your suitcase and take it with you), you can't put it back - but I am not certain.

My holiday is also AI but I'm not bothered about eating / drinking less as long as I don't feel rough. I also need to ensure it's not noticeable to my DD as I don't want her to know I'm taking it.

1stTimeMummy2021 · 19/03/2024 09:40

The company I work for has had some funding issues so everyone's jobs are at risk and boy did that make me want to eat, I know I'm an emotional eater. My DH offered me McDonald's for dinner to feel better but I managed to say no.

Are people taking exercise calories into consideration when counting and having a deficit? I wear a fitness tracker and add a chest strap when exercising to make it more accurate but I know the calories burned still aren't that accurate. I do exercise a lot though, weights and cardio, so for example my app says I burnt 993 calories yesterday from activity. It makes it difficult to know how much of a deficit to have. Any advice much appreciated.

April88 · 19/03/2024 09:47

I don’t take into account exercise calories - I like to think of any burnt is an added extra. I play netball twice a week (centre so lots of running 😂) and do weight training twice a week.

Also aim to get my 10,000 steps a day.

I think it’s a personal thing, if you’ve done a big work out and you’re hungry on your usual calories, eat something extra.

ObsidianTree · 19/03/2024 09:48

@CiderJabs I don't think I'm bothered about the eating and drinking aspect, but I'm going with a lot of family who would probably notice me not drinking loads or eating much. Definitely very confusing!

@1stTimeMummy2021 hope all works out ok. I haven't taken into account exercise kcals...as I don't really exercise anyway...unless I counted walking! I noticed on my watch (also a Fitbit) that it says I have burned kcals, but it seems loads considering I don't do much!

We're off to an AI in May and I think I will have a few drinks but limit food still.

This weekend we were with my in-laws and I told them I was eating when I was hungry and that my portions were small as I'd had my tummy shrunk.

Hi all, been watching and reading so thank you for all the info - very useful.

I was on Ozempic last year, did really well on it - came off in Sept and between Sept and now - managed to put all my weight back on. Stupid really!! I was doing really well, lost about 2 stone and was feeling amazing and then stupidly took my eye off the ball and ate and drank ALL the food - thinking I was invincible. So that bit me in the bum...

So started MJ last week (Sat) and am once again loving that feeling of being in control again. I am a totally typical yo-yo/binge/emotional eater and this drug really does just quieten the mind.

I am watching loads of social media posts from the US about how good it is, how to manage it and the side affects etc. I am however, concerned about the long term plan and maintenance. I need to make sure I get my head right this time and make the eating patterns a life long change.

I am not calorie counting as I find it becomes too obsessive for me, but very much focusing on lots of protein, veg and water. Snacking is my total downfall, so keeping these to the minimum and if I do need a snack, finding something decent not crap.

Also do lots of exercise - crossfit 3x per week, running and tennis so I know my movement is good. I just like food too much :)

CiderJabs · 19/03/2024 10:20

I also worry a lot about maintaining and how not to just waste all the money and effort only for it to come back on.
I've tried to find out whether we need to wean ourselves off (so reduce the dose gradually) or just come off it in one go, and am none the wiser.

I've even been thinking of taking some apetite suppressants from somewhere like Holland & Barrett when I stop MJ to help with the transition.

The US lot all talk about going on maintenance and taking a small dose every other week. I don't know is that is going to be something we can do. I guess it will depend on availability. And cost of course!

But hopefully we get some better habits in place and we don't need to. That is what I am hoping to achieve this time around.

AgathaMystery · 19/03/2024 10:38

Morning all… day 4, and I’m a kilo lighter. Not too shabby. I feel good! No side effects… yet.

SW 89.1kg
CW 88.1kg

lowest weight (saxenda) 81.6kg

Don't think thats how concentration works.
10mg is 10mg, 5mg is 5mg, no matter whether it's contained in 0.6ml or 10ml.

The drug doesn't just hang about your body within it's 0.6ml of injection fluid.
It attaches to its target receptors. If a dose has 10 zillion GLP molecules, then those 10 zillion molecules will attach to the receptors, regardless of how much liquid they were injected in.

No don’t take into account exercise cals, unlink watch/fitbit so it doesn’t add to nutracheck/my fitness pal.
You have already factored in your exercise when working out Tdee eg you pick sedentary or light activity etc. so you get more cals if you are more active. If you ate them too you’d be getting benefit twice from same exercise.
Plus fitness watches are inaccurate, a previous pt said knock 1/3 off.

CiderJabs · 19/03/2024 10:59

@montysma1 that's not what I read, but it also makes sense. As I said earlier a lot of this is a bit of a minefield and I suppose we each need to decide what to do and what not to do.

peachgreen · 19/03/2024 11:03

Hello all, I'm starting today. I took Saxenda for two 3 month periods back in 2021 and managed to lose 6.5 stone over the course of 18 months, but put 2 stone back on again last year so am determined to lose it again before my 40th in the summer. So trying Mounjaro and hoping it kickstarts things the same way Saxenda did for me! I follow a low carb high protein diet and fast for 16 hours every day. I'm aiming to lose 2.2lbs a week.

NC543210 · 19/03/2024 11:07

Morning everyone.

While I'm still waiting for my clinical review with boots ( actually does anyone know how long they usually take?)

I've been watching a lot of the videos from America about it. It does seem like magic and I absolutely cannot wait to start so I can feel like me again.
The thing that concerns me is that a lot have mentioned hair loss. I know this can happen with rapid weight loss but it is something that worries me as I have extremely fine hair anyway. I know it's quite early for most but had anyone noticed it?
I'm a medical aesthetics practitioner so I'm half tempted to maybe start a course of injectable Biotin to try and support my hair.

Investinmyself · 19/03/2024 11:11

I watched one American lady on instagram who had hair loss and she put it down to not enough protein.
I’m really prioritising protein/fruit/veg/water and hopefully won’t be an issue.

1stTimeMummy2021 · 19/03/2024 11:15

@Investinmyself I calculated my Base Metabolic Rate instead and then had some of the exercise calories, I never know which exercise option to pick when calculating TDEE. I might see how this week goes and then if I don't lose weight I'll adjust my calorie intake. Thank you.

loverofpants · 19/03/2024 11:15

Hi all!

I'm approaching my 1 year anniversary of Mounjaro (I started mid April last year) and today my BMI is normal for the first time in about 20 years! I'm down 55lbs and I've not gone above 7.5. Majority of all my bloodwork is now in the normal range and my fatty liver has disappeared.

Advice-
Drinks lots and lots of water, add electrolytes where possible
Add collagen for hair loss (I have lost quite a bit at one point)
Take your vitamins!!
Keep protein high
Try to exercise where you can to reduce muscle loss

I am classed as lightly active (one above sedentary)
Totally sedentary desk job
I aim for 10,000 steps probably hit it 6/7 days but Apple Watch on wrist overestimates so realistically 7,000? steps a day.
Gym x 2 but weights not cardio.
Pt’s advice was if in doubt err on side of caution.
