I'm getting married on the 12th September.

I've tried to be really really organised so hopefully it will all run smoothly!

Anyone else want to chat to me about their weddings and hold hands together?

OP posts:
baiyu · 06/08/2009 08:45

Don't worry Viv, we had invites designed printed and sent in 3 days. That's only about 50 but if even you have a lot more you'll probably manage them in a week so don't panic! Keep them simple and lovely I say.

baiyu · 06/08/2009 08:46

Not long to go delilahbelle, you sound very calm! I love that you have your mums silver sixpence.

VivClicquot · 06/08/2009 09:07

We've got them from the stationery people - we just need to print them off and assemble them, which is this weekend's job. I'm a bit fat-fingered though, so hopefully they will still look simple and lovely with a badly-tied ribbon around them

VivClicquot · 06/08/2009 09:21

Oh and my wedding stats:

How old were you when you met - we met at my 29th birthday party, which was three years ago.

He used to work with one of my best friend's husband and for years, they would always say, "Viv, you SO have to meet X - you'll SO fancy him and he'll SO fancy you and you're going to fall in love and get married and it will be ACE" and I was always, "Yeah whatever". So they invited him to my 29th birthday party and when he walked through the door, I just thought, "Ooooh. I see what you mean."

How many years have you been together - We dated for a couple of months, but then had a temporary split, but got back together a couple of months after that. So we've been together for 2 and a half years.

How did he propose - We were on holiday in Australia last November, and he did the whole 'get down on one knee' thing on a jetty overlooking an amazing lake at a place called Gypsy Point. I cried.

The original plan - a pretty traditional (albeit civil) wedding with the usual trimmings.

How many bridesmaids / page boys? - 4 bridesmaids.

Theme/colours - a November wedding means an ivory theme with shitloads of candles everywhere. In one word = twinkly.

Reception - Same place as the service (a castle, which sounds rather grand but isn't THAT over the top!)

Cake - cupcakes

Honeymoon? - 3 weeks travelling round Thailand.

delilahbelle · 06/08/2009 09:21

VivClicquot - Good luck with your invites. I did all our invitations via email/facebook My Dad does a lot of desktop publishing, so designed 5(!) pages with all the information on, invite, maps, menu's etc, I uploaded them to a facebook event and invited people to that.
Saved us a lot of time and money - luckily everyone, even my grandparents use facebook.

Today I should be cleaning, my friends arrive this evening and the spare room is a tip!

Sunshinemummy · 06/08/2009 10:14

I'm getting married on 25th August. My stats below:

How old were you when you met - 20

How many years have you been together - 18 years

How many children/ ages? - 2 dc's, DS is 3 and DD will be 1 on 20th August

When did you meet - pub. I was barmaid and his friend was the manager. He asked her to tell me he liked me. I told her to tell him he had no chance!

How did he propose - we've been engaged for 8 years! He asked me at dinner on Fraser Island.

The original plan - very prgamatic. Best friend is getting married in Bermuda (where she lives but she's hired a fricking island) on 29th August. It's cheaper to fly to Bermuda via New York so we're getting married in New York on the way to best friend's wedding (DS is page boy at her wedding as she is his godmother, and I'm doing a reading).

Church/ registry office? - City Hall - where Carrie and Big got married.

How many bridesmaids/ page boys? - just DS and DD

Theme/ colours? - none. My dress is an Aubergine colour from Paul & Joe. Didn't want a wedding dress as am too old.

Car? - New York yellow taxi

Reception? - drinks on roof terrace at Soho House, followed by dinner in White Room. There will be 6 friends with us. We'll have a Naming for DD when we get back and that will be our big celebration.

Cake - none

Honeymoon? - Bermuda

Something new, borrowed, old and blue......
nope

Congratulations to everyone else.

LisamumtoJake · 06/08/2009 10:33

We're getting married on the 3rd of september in a registry office nearby, then off to a beautiful hotel/resturant in South Queensferry outside edinburgh, im very excited and have most things planned, but its the little things that are getting me, bloody favours are one of them, the seating plan! - My mum and dad are divorced and cant be near each other, so that will be fun!

Our stats would be:

Met- In a pub on Boxing day 2002
Ages- both nearly 19 when we met, and now both 25.
Children- Just the one Jake aged 7months, nearly 9 months on the day.
Theme- Flowers and pretty.
Cake- small Top tier, with 30 cupcakes underneath-polka dot theme there!
Honeymoon- Menorca for a week from the 5th.

jojos4angels · 06/08/2009 10:49

Wow everyone sounds so organised,

3 weeks 1 day, hen night tomorrow night

Sunshinemummy · 06/08/2009 10:51

Well off to France on Sat for two weeks, then come back for one day and fly to NY so have had to be organised.

Had hen dinner a couple of weeks ago at Bluebird. Was v. nice and low key.

sayanything · 06/08/2009 11:24

Hello all. A quick post to say I'm also getting married on 12 September Fairydust and Lovemygirls! Seems we picked a popular date.

I've got an exam now (language course) but I'll come back and post soon.

sayanything · 06/08/2009 13:54

How old were you when you met - 29

How many years have you been together - 4 years

How many children/ ages? - None, but we're working on it.

Where/how did you meet - at a friend's party. He came with a female friend who knew my friend.

How did he propose - not sure. He sort of proposed while we were flying back home after a weekend away and then proposed properly when we were on holiday a few months later. By which time we had told our parents we were getting married, had booked the church and I'd bought a dress.

The original plan - My original plan? Super fast registry office do which just parents and siblings and then a fantastic meal at a Michelin starred resto. Actual plan? A big fat Greek circus wedding extrvaganza with 300 guests I hardly know.

Church/ registry office? - Church. I'm an atheist, but lost the battle.

How many bridesmaids/ page boys? - None, got away with that one

Theme/ colours? - Flowers will be white and dark green, but I refused to have the church decorated. Florist is an old friend of my mum's so she's doing the table centrepieces at cost.

Car? - My dad's - he'll drive us both to church at the same time.

Reception? - buffet dinner at the enchanted garden of a restaurant. Desperately trying to get out of the first dance.

Cake - none

Honeymoon? - Not sure yet, but won't be until Xmas due to work commitments.

baiyu · 06/08/2009 13:59

No way are we having a first dance! with you on that one sayanything!

sayanything · 06/08/2009 14:23

Baiyu if my mother and MIL really insist, I'll bribe my younger brother and his gf to get up more or less at the same time and the song will be I'm sticking with you, by the Velvet Underground. Maureen Tucker sounds particularly off-key/stoned on that one.

eveywoo77 · 06/08/2009 14:29

hi Mrs 2 B My wedding is 2 years today. we decided to pick the venue for our wedding and then set the date according to how long it would take to save for my i mean our lol dream day. So as its so far away I have loads of time to research and go through things time and time again in my head to make sure thats its as perfect as i can get it, I am a lucky girl that I got to have the reception in the hotel DP proposed to me in and its the most beautiful setting in torbay.
I know im biased but Whoop Whoop im so excited already xxxxxxxxxxxxx

OhBling · 06/08/2009 14:35

Hi all - I got married earlier this year so just popping in to say hi and congratulations. It's such fun.

And my hot tip on party favours for Lisa:

  • if you can afford to, buy them all ready made up. they take on epic proportions and it lands up being the thing everyone is up until midnight working on the night before
  • if you can't afford to buy them all made up, keep it simple. Fiddly bits of ribbon are a nice idea, but no one really notices them anyway and it just causes trauma (see above).

In retrospect, I wish I'd just had big bowls of chocolates on each table instead of individual party favours. But my mum and MIL were insistent....

jojos4angels · 06/08/2009 15:12

Nope, no 1st dance for us either,

OhBling- we are having bowls of indivdually wrapped chocolates on each table, wedding favours would be too much of a faff for me to do myself!

VivClicquot · 06/08/2009 16:20

I'm not having favours. In my experience, the only things people remember about weddings are i) the bride's dress ii) the food and drink and iii) the evening entertainment, so I'll be buggered if I'm spending loads of money on individual boxes of chocolates etc. I'd rather put it towards more wine...

So, anyone who complains at my wedding because they've not been given a small bag of sugared almonds can get bent, quite frankly.

jojos4angels · 06/08/2009 16:31

, oh yes more wine, is it too late to send the chocolates back i wonder.

giddykipper · 06/08/2009 18:15

Going to collect my ring tomorrow.

[giddy emoticon]

sayanything · 06/08/2009 19:08

My mother insisted on favours (my mother, who was really quite hippyish in her youth and had the lovely, tiny wedding of her choosing, morphed into a Bridezilla of stupendous proportions when DP and I decided to get married). It turned out to be the most time-consuming, endlessly irritating bit of the wedding planning and we haven't even got round to the putting them together stage. Stay away, buy more wine, I beg of you.

LisamumtoJake · 06/08/2009 20:43

lmao, ooo well i got away with getting shortbread iced hearts for favours in little bags-total cost £10 bargain me thinks

Our wedding is very small (18) and i've managed so far only to spend about £1200 in total, so i think i've done rather well.

baiyu · 06/08/2009 20:52

Oh that's a nice one sayanything. My mum has nothing to do with the preparations (but will help and is v supportive) and MIL hates me so she'd rather we didn't get married at all I reckon. Anyway, less interfering!
No wedding favours either, definitely just more alcohol! also no flowers (except a wee bouquet for me), no big white dress, no bridesmaids...am i missing the point?!
Ach well, we're only 24 and have no money so there's no point pretending otherwise!

LisamumtoJake · 06/08/2009 20:59

aww baiyu, no i think you're doing it nicely, i have no flowers as of yet either,no big dress for me either, a white patterned frock which was £50 is doing nicely, i have one bridesmai, who is my witness, she paid for her own dress, and we plan to have lots of alcohol too

jojos4angels · 06/08/2009 21:12

baiyu, you are getting married and that is all that counts.
You will have a fab day
