I'm getting married on the 12th September.

I've tried to be really really organised so hopefully it will all run smoothly!

Anyone else want to chat to me about their weddings and hold hands together?

i will at some point of the next few weeks going to collect the rings this weekend and look for a brown shirt for ds which is proving to be more of an ordeal than anything.

jojos4angels · 30/07/2009 12:37

Ahhh Fairydust, you have time still.

I am such a laid back bride to in some ways, i think because we wanted a really laid back day, all done in our stylee there's not too much to get stressed about.

Apart from this wonderful summer, we are meant to be having , that worries me a little!

LoveMyGirls · 30/07/2009 13:08

Hey girls,

I've been busy freaking with work and exercising to get into my dress!

Fairydust we're getting married on the 12th sept too, can't believe you haven't got your dress yet but then I think I am a control freak, took me 6months to find the dress, going tonight for my first fitting, excited!!

I keep making lists but then thinking about everything that needs to be done and my head feels like its going to explode because I'm struggling to find the time to fit it all in and the weeks keep whizzing by really fast, I'm sure we'll get there and by the time the day comes I'll be past caring anymore and will just enjoy it.

jojos4angels · 30/07/2009 13:49

Hey LMG, wondered where you went,

i was really lucky i picked a dress it fit job done

I have only had 7 weeks from deciding booking to the actual day, not much time to faff really, not that i faff anyway

LoveMyGirls · 02/08/2009 08:20

Lolabella & whogotthafunk & chaosisawayoflife - How did it go??

Floopy less than a week to go..... How excited are you? What have you got left to do?

I went to the dressmakers the other day and I've got a peice put in the front of my dress which I hoped I wouldn't have to but hopefully she will make it so it's part of the dress and hey at least it will be customised so it's different from everyone else whose had the same dress. Fingers crossed I like it when I pick it up in about a week!

The hairdressers is sorted now and I'm booking in to get my nails done with nails inc - it's expensive but apparently it lasts for 3weeks without chipping!

What hymns are you all having? (if you're having hymns)
What is your first dance song?

nymphadora · 02/08/2009 08:28

I get married on 24 Oct 2nd time for both of us so wasn't going to be very fancy , but has ended up with reg office then nice meal followed by sports bar & pie& peas!
I have my dress, need to go and check it when I get back from holiday! My kids are bridesmaids and they are sorted ( need to check) and have lunch booked! Still need music for the night do!
Haven't sent invites cos mn told me august so will do them when we get home!
We have about 35 for lunch ( close family and best friends) and no idea for evening, cos work friends get complicated!

Floopy21 · 03/08/2009 11:18

Hi LMG, 5 days!! So excited now, but I think all the maddos in the family are coming out of the woodwork this week to torment! (already had drunken Aunty rambling about seating arrangements, etc, etc)

I bet your dress will look fab, if for some reason you don't like it, you could always wave your perfect nails in front of the panel to distract?!

We're having a civil ceremoney, so no hymns (maybe I'll hum Jeruselem to myself at some point) & our first dance is 'For You Blue' by the Beatles. What's yours?

LoveMyGirls · 04/08/2009 19:07

4 days!!!!!!!!

I'm praying I will love the dress even more when she's finished!

Our first dance is "too good to be true" by andy williams.

What have you got left to do?

Does anyone know where I can get my dd's shoes from? I've looked in next, monsoon, debenhams, m&s but I can only find 1 pair in both girls sizes and dd1 who is 10 hates them.

Any idea's?

Also what earrings should I wear?

I'm going shopping on sunday. TIA

giddykipper · 04/08/2009 20:43

I feel a bit of a fraud but I'm going to post anyway because I am a real giddy kipper.

Decided on Friday to get married, doing it on 25 August - yes, three whole weeks to plan! Bought the rings and my dress at the weekend, not much else to do I don't think.

LoveMyGirls · 04/08/2009 20:48

Welcome GK - You're not a fraud! You are getting married!

Can't believe you can do it in 3 weeks though.......tell me how?

I've got ages yet I feel sick with worry over it sometimes!

Think it's because I want everything exactly perfect.......me, bridezilla? I think I may be turning into one.........HELP!

OP posts:
giddykipper · 04/08/2009 21:09

By keeping it simple, that's how! DP and I went to the local jewellers and picked our rings from their range, limited choice made it easier to decide. Then I went shopping determined to come home with outfits for me and the kids, which I did. Today I agreed the wording of the service with the registrar. I still need to sort out somewhere to eat, but there will only be 7 of us and it's a Tuesday afternoon so I don't expect a problem! I also booked a hotel for our wedding night today. I'm leaving DP to sort out what he wants to wear, I wouldn't be surprised if he just gets something out of his wardrobe!

It's all on here

I keep feeling as though I must have missed something!

LoveMyGirls · 04/08/2009 21:14

Wow sounds lovely! Why the rush though? (just wondering)
How long have you been together?
Where did he propose?

OP posts:
giddykipper · 04/08/2009 21:20

We've been together the best part of a decade. We always planned to get married but neither of us wanted a big deal. We are going to be on holiday with the kids and my parents, it just struck me as an opportunity. So I just said "how about getting married when we are on holiday?", he said "why not". So then we had to rush to get the notices done in time etc. So no real reason for the rush, just the fact that we made a last minute decision to take advantage of an opportunity.

LoveMyGirls · 04/08/2009 21:25

I think I possibly have made things a lot harder than they needed to be tbh which is prob why I'm panicking.

Though things do seem to have a way of spiralling tbh eg today I brought some envelopes and cd wallets (because I want people to be able to put their pictures on the cd's and post them to us while we're on our honeymoon) so then I went to the post office to buy some stamps, asked the lady which ones I'd need etc she sold me 50 of the very large 1st class stamps only to later show dp and for him to say I only needed normal stamps and I don't need 50 of them because a lot of our guests will come round when we get back off our honeymoon to see us anyway so no need to post. So now I've got to take them back and get normal stamps and I probably only need 25 instead of 50.

This is one of the tiny things that has spiralled others include.....

wanting blue shoes with a sparkle on the front, eventually sorted it but it tooks hours to fine them and even then i ended up buying brooches to go on the fronts of my shoes which obviously meant going shopping for brooches.

Wanting a dress that would hide my tattoo - spent 6mths looking, took it to the dress makers last week only to find once it's properly on as it should be it needs a panel putting in the front to hide my tattoo.

Underwear - I knew exactly what I wanted, went shopping to get it, in debenhams they had what I wanted but only in the size below or above what I needed so I ordered online, I'm still yet to buy the rest of the underwear because they dont stock it where I live and not in the next city either so i've got to go to the next big city. I could order online again but I want to try it on to be sure it's the right size.

I'm sure there are lots of other examples too.

OP posts:
LoveMyGirls · 04/08/2009 21:26

That's a good reason Great idea to make it part of the holiday too.

OP posts:
Floopy21 · 05/08/2009 16:54

We're doing the CD thing too - great minds LMG! Although you're FAR more organised than I. No need to panic, it will all slot in to place before you know it (people said that to me, I didn't believe them, but lo & behold!) Although things conspiring against you do not help! panels/brooches/underwear - never frickin easy is it?

I'm rationalising my panic with the 'what will be will be' attitude now - we're there to get married, which is one thing that WILL happen, even if the cake looks crap, I've a stain on my dress, Aunty Anne's pissed as a fart, etc, etc - we will still have fun!
(uh-o - have I just tempted fate/my H2B to jilt me?!)

THREE!!!!!!

LoveMyGirls · 05/08/2009 17:46

3 sleeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are your plans for the next 3 days?

I'm not feeling organised I'm feeling like I've got lots of balls I'm juggling in the air and any minute now they will all come crashing!
I know it probably will be fine and even if it's not I won't care or notice on the day because I'll be too busy enjoying it, well thats the plan after all Even if it all does go wrong and I do notice I'm sure after a few drinks I will be less bothered lol.

2 days to go for me Only a few things to do, ordered the flowers today, luckily it's only me having a bouquet and the local florists are very nice. Now just loads of tidying/stressing to do.
Having a takeaway with DP tonight, then he's off to the hotel after work tomorrow to sort parents and everything out, whilst I have a quiet night in with 3 friends.

How did he propose - Xmas day, I opened my last present and a ring was inside.

The original plan - to get married abroad on safari, couldn't afford to take everyone we wanted to wish us though.

Church/ registry office? - Registry office

How many bridesmaids/ page boys? - 1, DP's 8yr old niece

Theme/ colours? - lilac, gold and ivory

Car? - Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

Reception? - sit down meal for family and friends in a local hotel, then we are organising a bus into town for drinks in a vodka bar.

Cake - made by a mate, 2 tier ivory icing with lilac dusted flowers and gold ribbon

Honeymoon? - Canada, and a helicopter ride over niagara falls

Something new, borrowed, old and blue......
blue underwear
borrowed earrings
new dress
old wedding ring (secondhand so much cheaper)

and I even have a real silver sixpence to wear in my shoe, saved from my mum's wedding.

hongkongzoe · 05/08/2009 20:43

So glad I found this thread, I'm gettingmarried on Saturday and am completely over excited!

We have two dcs already, DD (2) is a flower girl and Ds is 6 months and an honorary usher.

We started out planning for a small , low key wedding and have ended up with 80 guests. regisrty office, followed by bbq in lovely local pub garden (pray for sunshine) or thier posh function room if it rains, then DP's friend's band are playing in the evening in the lovely old church/community centre at the end of our street and it'll be a bit of free for all!
Got a vintage 1950's dress in a sort of pale blue/silvery silk with floral print.
General overall theme? I guess hotch potch village fete casual big celebration!

Think I am more excited than panicking. Everything is pretty much in place now...just have to wait for the day and hope DS doesn't decide to wake up a million times the night before.

No honeymoon as have no one to take our children for a week, but we are off to Jersey to see my sister for a week, so that'll have to do, and I want to be with my Dcs anyway. We are swanking it up in a hotel on the wedding night though, so looking forward to my first lie in in about 2 years!

delilah- I had completely forgotton about the something old etc... blimey, I need something blue, will my flowers count, am having hydrangeas?

hongkongzoe · 05/08/2009 20:47

Love my girls- Have you tried ebay for shoes? They have some nice plain silk bridemaid/flower girl numbers. Also dance shops do ballet shoes and they can often get them dyed to any colour you want.

Floppy- ihave an Aunty Anne who's always pissed as a fart too and never without a cigarette on the go.

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/08/2009 21:09

Just wanted to wish all you ladies the best of luck for your weddings

Hi LMG - have a look at Henry Kaye website for shoes or bridal shoes direct ? I can do links if you can't find them but you should get them via google

LoveMyGirls · 05/08/2009 21:33

Welcome and congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your day sounds lovely! We're having dp's friends playing in a band too.

Will the blue on your dress count?

Shame about the honeymoon but I'm sure you'll still have a lovely time at your sisters and maybe she can babysit so you can have some time as a couple

I have put a bid on one pair of shoes for dd2 it's dd1 who is 10 now, she wants heels which is not easy but we'll get there let's hope.

Can I join you? Getting married on the 1st October. Very low key, planned it all while DS napped on my lap!

Wedding stats...erm
How old were you when you met - I was just 19, DP 18 He was just out of (all boys) high school, bless him!

How many years have you been together - 5

How many children/ ages? - DS, 15mo will be 17 months at the wedding

When did you meet - in London in 2004 then went to China together shortly after.

How did he propose - It was more of a 'conversation' but he did get down one one knee towards the end. No engagement ring (then or now!) Oh well.

The original plan - small and very personal, has grown but still original idea.

Church/ registry office? - registry

How many bridesmaids/ page boys? - none but DS will be pretty significant!

Theme/ colours? - none, best friend is a fashion designer so am trusting her totally with my dress. Not white though, my skin is too pale and I'd only spill things!

Car? - just a black taxi!

Reception? - Lunch for about 40 in a restaurant (haven't told them it's a wedding yet, hmm) then later on drinks and a bit of a dance in a room above a pub.

Cake - no idea. I'll make it myself though.

Honeymoon? - 2 weeks in Provence by train, with DS! Hopefully one night in a posh local hotel on our own before we go.

Something new, borrowed, old and blue......
I'll get back to you on this one!

VivClicquot · 06/08/2009 08:34

Can I join this thread please?

We get married on 14th November - which is exactly 100 days away. Not that I'm counting or anything. Oh no.

The panic has started to rise this week as the weeks seem to be flying by and we haven't made a start on any of our invitations. Eeek.
