The trouble is, you can't really give some of the stuff to charity shops if it has the couples name and date on!

MrsR87 · 31/07/2022 17:54

Another vote for don’t bother here.

When we were planning our wedding ten years ago, my husband asked me what the favour was from the last wedding we went to. I couldn’t remember which proved his point that they were a waste.

So instead we put the money into other things. Firstly, there were about ten all day dinner guests under the age of 10, so I put together a personalised gift bag of age appropriate toys and activities for them. Each on cost about £10-15 to put together and kept the kids entertained throughout the meal and beyond.
We also did a basket of flip flops at the side of the danse floor and there was only 1 pair left at the end of the night! Everyone commented on how great that was.
Food is also super important to us so for £5 extra per guest, we could offer a choice of three dishes per course instead of just one, so we did this! All things that people have said (to our faces) that they really appreciated and enjoyed! 😍

We did big jars of sweets on the tables and personalized bags, everyone had sweets in the taxi on the way home. Worked really nice. And we had loads left for the honeymoon travel

Saisong · 31/07/2022 17:58

I'm generally not fussed about favours, but kids seem to like the collecting aspect and hoover them up off tables when they have been abandoned (all of which ends up in my handbag)!
Wedding we went to yesterday had tequila shots - which were mostly drunk during the speeches (with salt and lime). Lots were left behind though (including by me).

At our wedding we had free seating with no plan (hog roast/buffet), but the tables were decorated with an assortment of tea lights/metalwork candleholders (with battery tealights) and we told guests they were welcome to help themselves if they liked anything. About half went, some I have kept as mementos and the rest went to the charity shop (where most came from anyway).

Gazelda · 31/07/2022 17:58

We had an Easter wedding and put a big bowl of colourful foil wrapped chocolate eggs In the middle of each table - doubled as table decoration and favours.

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/07/2022 17:59

A friend gave ice cream scoops with a ribbon tied around saying 'scoops of love'. We ditched the ribbon but use the scoop regularly and I do think of their wedding day and of my friend everytime we use it. (We live in different countries so don't see each other more than once every few years or so!)

glassdarker · 31/07/2022 17:59

We didn't have any (though we did have painted pebbles as name places most of which seemed to be taken). What we did have was goody bags to take home at the end of the night with bottles of local water, crisps, chocolates and some painkillers ! Stole idea from US wedding we went to.

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/07/2022 17:59

The best ones are when the bride and groom decide not to bother and spend their money on something else.

Total waste of money and always forgettable.

Honestly - don't bother - buy everyone a drink instead.

OwlNoisesInHerFace · 31/07/2022 18:00

A bag of sweets. Most people love them. They get eaten really quickly and no one has any bags of tat cluttering up their handbag or pockets all day.

Although (and this wasn't a wedding I attended, I saw it online) I did see someone do little boxes that had a fruit scone and a little jar of jam for their favours. I'd take one of those as well Grin

MrsR2be · 31/07/2022 18:03

Instead of favours we had bowls of sweets on the table. I did activity boxes for the kids, colouring, mini snakes and ladders mini jigsaws and bubbles

Painkillers! I'm sure your wedding wasn't that awful....

capedavenger · 31/07/2022 18:05

A couple I know hired a caricaturist to go round the tables and do little funny sketches of people instead of favours. That was very popular but I don't think everybody go one.

GreatBigExpectations · 31/07/2022 18:06

Dogtooth · 31/07/2022 16:52

I think they're all a waste of time and money. Especially when in little naff organza bags etc.

This. Save your money.

cheveux · 31/07/2022 18:06

We gave everyone books we chose specifically for them, people loved it.

Oh dear lord. I would hate that!!

Johnnysgirl · 31/07/2022 18:09

Nobody remembers, because nobody cares. If the teeny piece of tat you dispense in a goody bag is the highlight of your wedding, you're doing it all wrong!

nodiggetynodoubt · 31/07/2022 18:09

Free drinks token for the bar 🥂

glassdarker · 31/07/2022 18:10

No @Maireas but the drinks were strong...

Christ alive! Who wants a bag of crisps and a bar of chocolate to take home? I'm assuming your guests weren't exclusively 5 year old's?

stuntbubbles · 31/07/2022 18:12

Usually they’re just tat and clutter riddled with guilt – when you want to just leave it behind but have it foisted on you 😭 Among the worst I’ve had was a wedding with tables set with random mismatched wine glasses; we all thought it was just the rustic aesthetic, but after dinner when the tables were being cleared away for dancing suddenly it was “take this random mismatched single and now dirty glass with you all night, it’s your wedding favour”. Aargh.

glassdarker · 31/07/2022 18:12

Wow wasn't expecting such vitriol @Johnnysgirl . It was for those who wanted a snack to soak up some alcohol or for their journey home the next day.

honeyfox · 31/07/2022 18:12

The ones I remember most were charity donations and one couple had jaegerbombs as that was what their group of friends (including my DH) liked to do on a night out!

We didn't bother with favours, we just put some money behind the bar for everyone to have a drink after the meal, it went down well.

SpeckledlyHen · 31/07/2022 18:13

I had a winter wedding and made up bottles of my own homemade sloe gin. The bottles were individual 100ml glass bottles and I tied a luggage label round the neck with the guest name so it worked as a place setting name also. They went down really well. The glass bottles I got from lakeland but I don't think they do them anymore.

trailrunner85 · 31/07/2022 18:14

We had little miniature jigsaws made with mine and DHs faces on, framed by some inspirational quotes, so the guests could have fun building up a picture of us and learning more about the very unique and intense love we have for each other.
