@ShirleyPhallus We need the bread roll favour poster to team up with Mrs Brown Sauce and find themselves someone who did bacon as “the best favour ever”, together it could all almost make sense.

Johnnysgirl · 04/08/2022 12:14

I also had a chocolate sweet in the shape of our dogs because they couldn't be there
Why?! Were any of your guests actually expecting your dogs to be there? And if they were, were they happy to be fobbed off with a chocolate counterfeit?

Johnnysgirl · 04/08/2022 12:15

It’s really making me giggle to see all the posters who claim they definitely have seen the best wedding favours ever…. At their own wedding
😁😁😁

Perhaps the caricaturist could have drawn the dogs.

Lol at hot chips. I'm Aussie - we only have chips! Chips (what you call crisps) and "hot" chips (this also includes fries). We don't always say hot, only for context when it's not obvious. E.g. I'll open a bag of chips/chippies when watching a game of AFL, but order a bowl of chips/chippies (hot) at the pub.

My best favour was being pounded by the groom while the bride lauded it over her single girlfriends.

Thank you for this thread, I am having a sleepless night due to some (minor) worries but I have laughed out loud at some of the comments - and am feeling much happier Smile

I hope at least you got some chutney or a bread roll afterwards.

Paprikapommes · 05/08/2022 06:49

I'd rather a bottle of wine was on the table. We did do activity bags for each kid, with stuff to make things less dull for them. Giant bubble wands went down a treat

Maireas · 05/08/2022 07:05

@Trying20 - I would personally hate the crafty stuff, but the chocolate sounds nice.

mummyh2016 · 05/08/2022 07:14

Worst ones were the mugs with our names written on. They were naff.
The last wedding we went to we had cookies. They were probably the best favours we have had but everyone had travelled 4 hours to attend. A drink each would've been better received.

Lostgerbil · 05/08/2022 20:50

I'm not really a fan of wedding favours tbh. Like lots of people say they tend to be something you don't need, that you then have to carry with you and then feel guilty if you want to give it away ect. When there is a paid bar I think a drink token is a good idea.

At our wedding we didn't have wedding favours, but made our own place settings and hand wrote a note to each guest with a personal message on the back. Where we knew the guest well (most people other than plus ones) we also thanked them for personal things they had done for us in the past (we made the place settings quite big so plenty of space). We had a big wedding, so it took a while to write them, but I think people appreciated it.

Hope no one thought we were cheap for not buying wedding favours! I just wanted something personal and it was a nice opportunity to thank the people who meant so much to us. We sent thank you cards for our gifts and to say thank you for coming, with a group photo from the day, but the messages on the place settings were meant to be more personal and people could easily recycle it if they didn't want it.

We did buy an aged appropriate present for all the children though. We hoped it would help keep them entertained during the speeches!

Johnnysgirl · 05/08/2022 21:24

but I think people appreciated it.
I would have absolutely appreciated that. In fact I'd have been deeply touched. It's simply not in the same ballpark as a jar of sweeties or a painted pebble.

thecatsthecats · 07/08/2022 19:27

We ordered so much extra booze that most people got sent away the morning after with either a six bottle box of wine or a box of beers.

Does that count? It was certainly popular!

I liked to think that people were still toasting our wedding weeks later.

DancingUnderTheLights · 10/08/2022 20:42

I can't say I've had anything that's been great. I got a little bag with tissues, chocolates and a miniature gin. I think they're useful but I wasn't excited about receiving them.

I agree with a lot of the others that the best ones are edible and the worse ones are cheap tat. I have shot glasses and I never do shots. If I did I hardly think my fav shot glass would have the date and names of a couple I know. I also hate getting stuff like that as it's wasteful and I feel bad throwing it away but otherwise it'd just sit at the back of a cupboard collecting dust.

RampantIvy · 13/08/2022 22:26

It's noticeable on this thread that more people are remembering favours they've given out than favours they enjoyed receiving. I wouldn't bother.

I agree. Tea cups and saucers, egg cups, stones with names etched on them, vintage liqueuer glasses etc would just get left behind. And who even drinks whiskey these days?

I think favours are a complete waste of money thought up by the wedding industry. Just spend more on feeding and watering your guests.
