Just that - let me know please ✨

Oh and another thing I really didn’t like was the individually wrapped tissues the guests where handed on our way in to church at a wedding, labelled ‘for tears of happiness’ which we were presumably expected to shed during the ceremony

Dear lord. No.

doodlywoodlydingdong · 31/07/2022 17:19

We got married on the winter solstice and gave out personalised baubles/decorations as name/place markers to take away. We also had little individual boxes of festive biscuits for people to help themselves to.

TheProvincialLady · 31/07/2022 17:22

I don’t think I have ever been to a wedding where there were favours. I hate tat so would not be interested in packets of seeds, shot glasses, small amounts of honey/jam/alcohol/whatever. No idea why I would need a biscuit or a piece of chocolate before a meal either.

Save your money.

Agree with everyone, only stuff that’s edible is any good. With the exception of scratch cards, that’s quite good

Worst things: anything personalised to B&G that you would ever display in your own home - shot glasses, fridge magnets etc. Seed packets rubbish. Anything artsy / crafty like little sewing kits, or moisturiser or lip balm. Anything in kit form - a hangover recovery kit for example.

Big bonus awful points for anyone who does wedding favours by sex.

(But I look forward to all the comments saying “I gave our personalised egg cups with our faces on one side and the date and our names on the other and my friends ALL say they’re the best favours they’ve ever received and use them every day!!”)

😂😂

BakewellGin1 · 31/07/2022 17:23

If anything... A scratchcard or shot bottle... A recent wedding had Tequila Rose... Things that don't need remembering or carrying around are a huge bonus or they just end up getting left.

Worst was homemade Disney baubles

Maxmayfield · 31/07/2022 17:26

Half a gram of cocaine perhaps

PinkDaffodil2 · 31/07/2022 17:26

I think ours 😂 our wedding was in Yorkshire, most of our friends from down south so we had Yorkshire rose cuff links, mini Yorkshire puds for canapés. For the favours we gave little individual bags of Yorkshire mixture sweets. Small enough not to get in the way, didn’t melt (chocolate, bird feeders!), easy to eat (sticks of rock), suitable for those that don’t drink alcohol, and no worry about the packaging breaking or leaking on the way home.
Very cheap as we bought a huge sweet shop jar, cheap ribbons, bags and stickers so about 30p p a head.
Lots of people weren’t fussed, but the bags were small enough that some collected a few and there weren’t any leftover at the end of the night.

chickencat5 · 31/07/2022 17:26

We went to a wedding where the couple had found us all second hand books they knew we would love.

Charity donations

Children baked cookies. Very thoughtful and kind

Choppies · 31/07/2022 17:26

i did little sweetie boxes but a few also had winning tokens in and those guests got champagne just to make it a bit more fun

iilikerustyspooons · 31/07/2022 17:27

Lottery ticket

alotoftutus · 31/07/2022 17:28

I generally hate favours - waste of money. However at my own wedding we did charity pins for 3 charities close to my heart and every single one was worn and taken home. My theory was if knowone keeps the pin then the money hasn't been wasted and has gone to a good place - unlike a sugar cookie or whatever.

BusySittingDown · 31/07/2022 17:28

The best one I've had were pin badges from the local hospice. That was nice as obviously the money went to a good cause and I've got the badge (a butterfly) on my jacket.

Otherwise, I really wouldn't bother!

Perpop · 31/07/2022 17:28

Donation to charity in lieu of favours

madamecake · 31/07/2022 17:28

As others have said anything edible is usually well received. We did boxes of fudge, bought massive bags from a local sweet maker and boxed them up ourselves.

We also did scratch cards as the place cards, put them inside little envelopes and hand wrote the names on.

BusySittingDown · 31/07/2022 17:30

I've had a lottery ticket before. Unless you win I feel like that's the height of shite as you've just got a piece of paper with numbers on! 🤨

I won a tenner

Herbs growing in terracotta pots.
The pots had names chalked on, and served as place names, table decorations and favours.
The bride grew them.

This is a lovely idea.

I liked a packet of wildflower seeds I was given. Bee-friendly - chucked them in a flower bed and got lots of lovely poppies etc.

tune · 31/07/2022 17:33

My husband has an invisible disability so we put a little thing about the charity/condition and a badge/wristband. I know that after it the charity had a few donations made from our guests. I also had a chocolate sweet in the shape of our dogs because they couldn't be there.

PurplePalmTree · 31/07/2022 17:34

The best was a scratch card and some sweets.
The worst was a bottle of alcohol that had been premixed into some bright pink milky cocktail. Vile.

BringACarrot · 31/07/2022 17:34

@Maireas I think you might have tagged me accidentally, in case you were trying to tag another poster

JustALittleHelpPlease · 31/07/2022 17:35

I really like the idea of charity pin badges, as pp says the money goes to a good cause regardless of who takes them/leaves them/loses them and those who like them get a nice little badge. Win/win I think!

Although we didn't do favours if we had thought of that we might have done!

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/07/2022 17:37

Can I be a total killjoy and say please don't do scratch cards? So many people struggle with gambling and it's a nasty, pernicious addiction. You probably won't know that they are struggling and it's a very bad idea to encourage gambling anyway.

And yes, I know I'm a joyless fun-sponge.

choolaboola · 31/07/2022 17:37

None - they're pointless.

That's a really good point
